Hello everyone hope you are all okay.
Been under stress at work, plus loads of mood swings, finally went postal friday morning, result is my boss is finally doing something about it - he can't afford for me to get signed off work with stress because there are so few managers, we have another off on the sick after having a heart attack. Happily he is back in a couple of weeks!
On a happier note saw midwife and heard heart beat!!!! I tried out the prenatal listenet and heard heart beat then as well

Housemum · 30/06/2007 20:10

Bouncingturtle - that's great! Was it you that hired the listener off eBay or did you buy one? Which sort is it?

MamaMaiasaura · 30/06/2007 21:21

suey - got my NT from NHS too I think my ms has gone now. been 3/4 days sick free. My imagination keeps going into overdrive tho.

mad4girls · 01/07/2007 01:16

aww bouncing turtle im soo jealous
keep trying mine but i must be too fat and lo hiding under all of it
you must be skinny really

so bored with all the rain there nothing to do and cant sleep tonight

dazedorconfused · 01/07/2007 08:32

SUEY2 - definitely worth a try as I'm really keen to hear it again, scans are so few and far between.

Really surprised at differences in service, in London I took the free nuchal for granted as it was my first baby and the heartbeat listening, now in the sticks I get to see the same mw (never happened twice in London!) but no much else it seems.

Was really horrified at the nuchal cost. They wouldn't dream of charging for other screening services so why pregnancy related ones? Especially as for many to be forewarned would help them emotionally and practically prepare for the future. Income should not be the deciding factor in this. £200 is alot of many to many.
Maybe I should write to my MP!!

Bouncingturtle · 01/07/2007 10:11

Housemum- I bought the Summer prenatal listener from ebay, £20, though you can also buy it from tesco for £28. It was brand new box. There's loads for sale on ebay.

Mad4girls - I wish I was, but no I'm a fatty
I basically lifted my belly up (still can atm!) and placed the listener just under the puibic bone. I think it depends on where your baby is lying, I guess Turtle is lying nearer my front. Someone suggested that best time to try is early morning or late evening.

Suey - I agree. £150 it would cost me for a nuchal scan where I am. Disgusting, especially as the blood test isn't as accurate!

suey2 · 01/07/2007 10:27

i think i felt it move last night! not sure, but it kind of felt like a bubble popping and was just under my pubic bone.
I think i will give the listener a go- i feel v sad for DH and it would be nice for him to be able to be a bit more involved. thanks girls

MamaMaiasaura · 01/07/2007 11:52

I got my old maternity clothes out and most of them are hideous!! they are 8 years old tho in my defence. Also cant believe what a small selection I had, no wonder I felt so yuck about my appearance then. I had 12 pair of combat style (they are ok actually), one pair of cream trousers (yuck), a pair of black velet evening trousers (yuck), a pair of dungarees , a couple of horrid tops, HUGE knickers and a cardigan with buttons missing. All in all pretty horrid except for the combats. Oh well means a nice lot os shopping to do

Housemum · 01/07/2007 13:47

I'm in maternity trousers today! I have one pair of trousers that still fit, but have had to put them in the wash (bet you wondered what the smell was...) Anyway, feel v good as managed to buy a nice pair of black trousers in Debenhams. Fit well round the bum and legs, obviously have large amounts of gathers at the sides where I've had to pull the button elastic in several notches, but there's plenty of expansion room there and it's hidden by my top. Nice to be able to breathe easily for a change, without haing to undo the button when I've eaten.

Can't wait to feel it move - have occasionally wondered if I felt a movement or not, but waiting for some proper action. Am considering hiring a monitor for a month but trying to tell myself it's a waste of money that could be spent on something far more useful.

Neuro · 01/07/2007 14:57

Hi everyone
Re: Nuchal tests - I didn't have to pay for mine, in fact the sonographer just got on with it. Is this a postcode lottery thing? It seems terribly unfair to charge some but not others. And as a test it seems to be such an easy quick thing. Hmmmmmm. Maybe Mr Brown might improve things?
I"m envious of those who can feel flutters. Sometimes i think i can feel something, only a small thing, but i wouldn't know how to describe it as it's so subtle and then think it's in my head and me just wishing i can feel something.
My tummy is sticking out for sure now, and last night using two mirrors i looked at myself from behind and i have no waist anymore. Feel a bit funny about it all today as my tummy was my best feature, EVEN tho i know it's cos i'm growing a baby.
I've totally overeaten this weekend, but thinks its due to feeling down about some family policitics. Oh and falling out with the baby's father. I dislike him intensely this week and now thinking WHAT HAVE I DONE? My mum said don't worry, it's got you as a mum so it'll be a great baby/human being.
I've felt so good for about 3 weeks think i'm just experiencing a low point.
HIDE THE DOUGHNUTS!
Oh Suey2 i've enjoyed reading your posts about tummy muscles, just got to work out hwere they all are! Does holding in your tummy a lot (as if pulling tummy button towards spine) help the msucles that will make tummy spring back into shape post birth?
Thanks

Bouncingturtle · 01/07/2007 15:31

My friend l;ost her waist quite early on (at around 13 weeks) where as I'm 15 weeks today and haven't. DOes this mean I'm having a girl .
Bought the cutest little fleece sleep suit, it's a bit christmassy but i bought it at the Big W outlet section and since bean is due at Smas I figured why not?

BeachBunni · 01/07/2007 22:07

Neuro I know what you mean. I know it's a baby inside but I can't help but feel a bit fat. I've always been slim with good stomach muscles and it bothers me a bit to see something different in the mirror, although I know it shouldn't. I feel like I'm starting to lose a bit of what I used to be. Emotionally and superficially. Welcome to mummyhood I suppose.

In a man hating mood myself this week - think they'll all selfish w*ers.

Housemum · 01/07/2007 22:42

In a few weeks we will all be sporting "bumps" rather than this vague plumpness at the mo. When I had a "proper" bump, I felt really feminine as it was obvious I was pregnant and not just fat. Roll on that stage (before the beached whale stage)

MotherofZ · 02/07/2007 08:04

Good morning all...
How are we all feeling today?

Feeling really good today - went on a shopping spree this weekend and bought some fab maternity clothes in the sales - nothing like a bit of retail therapy to lifts a girls mood.

suey2 · 02/07/2007 08:35

Hey Neuro,
Absolutely. The transversus work is what will flatten your tummy afterwards: the sit up muscle cannot work properly unless and until transversus does. (that is why some people get a flat tummy from doing sit-ups and some don't) and pregnancy is pretty much guaranteed to stretch transversus so much that it won't be able to work straight after the big event. I don't know if you have seen women who have had kids and their belly still sticks out a lot? They have never got tranvsersus bck

skidaddle · 02/07/2007 08:53

morning all,

beachbunni and neuro - completely know what you mean about losing your flat tummies (was also quite proud of mine!)- I dedicated A LOT of time to worrying about that 1st time but honestly honestly, my tummy went back to what it was about 6 months after having dd - maybe a little bit less taut but no-one but me would notice, so do not fear! the other thing of course is that you don't care very much once you've had your baby - but I do sympathise... (now boobs after bfing is a different matter entirely ....)

beachbunni - why are you on a man-hating week - has your dp been out drinking again?
I've been rowing with dp about dd - him leaving her to cry but think it is sorted now. I don't know how he can deliberately cause his own daughter such distress - makes me want to kill him

dazedorconfused · 02/07/2007 10:21

Has anyone found any maternity long vest/t shirt tops? Hoping to find something that will extend the life of normal tops.

Waist seems long gone and starting to get a gap between tops and bottoms, transversus definitely never recovered from dd!

Haven't really done a sweep of bump wear options yet so don't know where to begin to look. Not too bothered about colour but black/white would be a great start.

MotherofZ · 02/07/2007 10:23

Dazedorconfused - during my bit of retail therapy this weekend, saw in Dorothy Perkins some nice long maternity vests tops, I think for under a tenner, made of the stretchy material, that should last throughout.

MotherofZ · 02/07/2007 10:26

By the way, not that I am promoting this website or anything - but for those looking for cheapy maternity wear check out [[www.vertbaudet.co.uk[[, got some nice stuff in the sale and if you enter a special code that you can find on the website, you should get the postage and packing free

becklespeckle · 02/07/2007 10:52

Hi all! Hope everyone okay!
My belly is now sticking out a fair bit and I don't own a pair of trousers that will do up comfortably! Feeling a few wriggles every now and again too which is lovely and reassuring. Neuro, the feeling you are describing sounds like me a week ago, I kept thinking I could feel something but wasn't sure if I was imagining it, now it is stronger I know I wasn't!
I have been shocked at the amount of cutbacks the NHS have made to maternity services since I had DS2 4.5 years ago! We now get seen at 16 weeks and not again until 28 weeks! And they don't listen to the HB anymore unless you specifically ask!

MamaMaiasaura · 02/07/2007 10:59

motherofz - i bought a couple of those vest tops from DP last week, am wearing black one now. Really comfy and was 2 for £10 or £6 each.

Neuro · 02/07/2007 11:52

Phew! So i'm not being totally vain about my waist then.
Suey2 - thanks, I am hoping more than anything that my tummy gets back to something like it was before. I don't have great legs, but my torso has often been admired by boyfriends and as i'm going to be a single mother, i need my best bits to remain pretty good in order to meet and keep my future life partner. Has anyone been watching Corrie lately with the bar girl and gay guy storyline of them having a bebeh together? I loved it when she said 'i'm just going to have to do it the other way round - have a baby first and then find a husband'? Anyway, I am so happy this is on tv as it'll be less of a pain to explain to people my situation.
So i'll keep sucking my tummy button towards my spine...As for my breasts, well i totally failed the pencil test my whole life, so after breast feeding i guess they'll look like tiny fried eggs! I've always planned on breast surgery after having kids so that's something to look forward to!
Realy agree with whoever posted about how nice it will be to have a real obvious bump and not just look a bit porky round the middle. I wore a tight white t shirt this weekend and you could really tell i was preg and not just fat. Just need to summon up courage to tell work and then i'll start accessorising my bump! Not sure why i'm being such a jessy about telling boss as I am 14 weeks now. My boss's mood changes from day to day and he's quite depressing some days, he moans about stuff but doesn't actually want your help. I find this attitude so frustrating as I am a 'what can we do about it kinda girl'. Think i just want him to be happy and nothing else, not to be worried about when i'm away or how much it's going to cost him (nothing apart from a bit of extra work).
I think the weather is getting to me even though i don't consider myself someone who gets down at lack of sunshine.

Neuro · 02/07/2007 12:03

I have bit of dilemma but only as i like to plan ahead so much. I was thinking of carrying on with my re-training next Sept as I don't want that side of things to slip for too long, but then woke up today thinking my baby would only be 9 months and perhaps i'd prefer and be happier having that extra one day a week with him/her as i'm sure he/she will grow so quickly, i might regret not having spent more time.
Can any mothers who've already got little 'uns shed any light? I know you can't answer for me, but only being away 3 days at work instead of 4 days (3 days + 1 college day) seems better. And i'll be about £200 a month better off thanks to not paying monthly college fees, so i could actually save that and give myself more of a head start when it's a bit older.
Sound sensible?
(i'm already planning mother and baby swimming lessons once or twice a week! - anyone know what age you can start them off?)

suey2 · 02/07/2007 12:03

hennes tops 7.99. Isabellaoliver.com do 'bump bands' which bridge the gap

cazzybabs · 02/07/2007 13:05

Neuro - we went from about 6 weeks swimming - ie when I had finally finished bleeding and was not quite so knacked!

still no internet at home yet . hence the fleeting posts
