Let's all stop feeling sick and start expanding now

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Beachbunni - interesting your comment re bladder - my letter says I don't need a full bladder for the scan (always thought you did for earlier ones, not for 20 week)

bambino1andbump · 27/06/2007 20:35

I haven't got another midwife app until i'm about 24 weeks as I opted out of triple test so midwife said she didn't need to see me now until sept!! Do you think I could ring up and ask just to drop in quick to hear heartbeat just to put my mind at ease.

BeachBunni · 27/06/2007 21:03

Oh was that awen's 20 wk scan. i didn't realise we were that far along. I was talking about my 12 wk - all the posters at the hospital said you didn't need a full bladder for the 20.

bambinoandbump. I'm not sure how it works where you are. I'm going shared care and have to make an appt to see the mw at my gp's surgery at 18 wks to pick up iron tablets and have a checkup. In fact she just rang me tonight to make sure I'd made an appt for next week. I'm sure you could ring and ask them. It seems like an awful long time to wait.

nappyaddict · 27/06/2007 21:20

boo hoo someone reported my post. oh well just thought i'd give it a try. i did expect it though.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 27/06/2007 21:43

what did you say nappyaddict?

Caz10 · 27/06/2007 21:47

Yes, very curious, what did you say?!

macdoodle · 27/06/2007 21:51

Wasn't nasty or anything just against T+C...anyway I'm not buying anything yet too early too superstitious...though may get my kitchen moved and redone...as was going to move but NO (zero zip) interest in my house

MamaMaiasaura · 27/06/2007 22:18

Beachbunni - was 13+1 weeks scan Nuchal fold test. Wish I was nearer 20 weeks tho, would feel better about my 'who ate all the pies tummy'!.

Nappyaddict - what did you say

nappyaddict · 27/06/2007 22:20

wasn't nasty. i was just linking my pic trail cos i put it up on the for sale board and i think a lot of people don't go on there unless specifically searching for something rather than on a whim. hadn't got many responses and i really need to sell some stuff so i can pay bills and get some washing powder to wash ds' nappies cos at this rate he is going to have to have a bin bag wrapped around his bum!

just had a thought. do you think i could put washing up liquid in the washing machine or would it really mess it up?

buzzybee · 28/06/2007 04:18

Hi Beachbunni!! not nosey at all. I wish felt I could tell all and they'd be fine about it!!
Neuro - have you ever posted on the single parents part of the website. I haven't - wondered what its like? I love this site for the support it provides and answers to what sometimes seems to be silly questions, but wouldn't want to use it as my unpaid counsellor!
Sadly because I'm in NZ I'm not usually on line at the same time as you guys in the UK so have to do catchup later and responses not in real time (for you). Means you get to read my posts first thing when you wake up you lucky things!!

Bouncingturtle · 28/06/2007 08:27

Mad4girls - well done you have been very brave, I hope the soreness passes quickly! I found copious amounts of ice cream helps
Neuro - roflmao @ your comment re: fat sucking baby.
I don't want to KNOW howmuch I've put on, FAR too much!!!!!!
Maternity clothes are great, got a couple of bits already, but bidding for more on ebay. Yes I am too tight to buy bstuff new if I can get away with it

Loucee · 28/06/2007 09:29

Hi ladies

Buzzybee - how are you feeling hun?

Those that aren't really feeling pregnant - I'm part of your club too. I remember this with DD and I was panicking as I wasn't showing either. I felt it was such a long gap from the scan to the next MW appt when I heard the HB. As my next appt isn't until 28wks (well have booked a private 20wk scan at 21.5wks as don't get one on NHS) I did think about buying a doppler but they are quite expensive and worry that I would become obsessive and if I couldn't find the HB I would panic awfully. THis time round though I am showing a wee bump earlier so I'm using that to give me confidence everyting is ok.

Suey2 - are you getting a Doula? I was looking into that as well but think I have decided to spend the money. Do you have any tips for helping your stomach muscles come back together post birth?

Hope everyone is ok

buzzybee · 28/06/2007 10:18

Hi Loucee. Trying not to think about the risks too much to be honest. Just want to enjoy being pregnant and that feeling of excitement I had before I got the results back. I'm working late tonight as I'm taking DD away for a couple of days next week - school hols in NZ. There's LOADS of early snow down south this year so might even take her up to a skifield.
OUCH about the tooth. I have raging gum disease and had very painful treatment by a periodontist (I'd never heard of them before either) last year so can totally sympathise. My dentist is pushing me to get my last pair of wisdom teeth out now to avoid possibility of more abcesses in future.
I managed to put on 4 kgs very quickly and have stuck at that weight for weeks now, very strange! I read 1lb per week in the 2nd trimester is about right if that's any comfort

suey2 · 28/06/2007 10:41

Loucee- haven't decided yet, depends if we manage to move into a house and get my mum and dad down (dad is disabled). Ma raised 4 kids singlehandledly and is a huge source of useful info: as well as happy to shop, cook etc! DH has taken time off from my due date (10/12) so i will ahve him for 4 weeks: tempted to see how it goes.
Just got back from midwife: couldn't find heartbeat (16+6) but told me not to panic as apparently very common- for all thos going today.
RE abdos afterwards: I have just received a new book- the bible for physios working in womens health (i am manips and exercise based for people with spinal pain and sports injuries) so will make sure of my facts and report back.

cazzybabs · 28/06/2007 12:47

skidaddle - anything about 140 is "supposed" to be a boy, below a girl. 50% chance of being right!

Housemum · 28/06/2007 13:04

Cazzybabs - I thought girls had the faster heartbeats?

Just got back from scan - all fine, this one seems to be camera-shy as she had to jiggle it around to make it move! Kept showing its back so my money at the moment is on a boy - awkward, just wants to roll over and go to sleep. Anyway, had the blood test and nuchal fold measurements done so if I hear nothing in 7 days that's good news, and I'll get the results in 2 weeks at the MW appt (they call sooner if there is a problem). Dates are fine - she made me 14+1 so they'll keep the due date as 29th Dec (which is 13+5)

becklespeckle · 28/06/2007 13:05

Hi all! Saw MW this morning to see if they could find the heartbeat and there it was! She found it straight away which was reassuring for me as I knew there was a chance it would be too early to find it yet. Phew! Also had my triple test bloods taken today and they weighed me too - have put on a whole 2 kgs so far! I know that will increase though, put on 4 1/2 stone with DS1 - mostly water thankfully!
Mad4Girls - well done you for getting that tooth removed! You are a braver woman than I am!
Bambino1andBump, if you explain that you need some reassurance then I am sure your MW will agree that you can pop down so they can have a listen. Mine just slotted me in this morning before all the 'proper' appointments, was only there 5 mins.
Suey, sorry you didn't hear your LOs HB today, is quite common not to find it though, all depends where baby is sitting (or hiding!). Are you getting any first flutters yet? That is even better than hearing the HB!
Anyway, must go do some work (got some lovely spreadsheets to update...), Hi to everyone else!

dundeemarmalade · 28/06/2007 13:09

hello everybody.
just been catching up with everybody's news- this thread moves so fast!
having felt much better for a week or two, i'm a bit surprised to be loosing my breakfast on a regular basis, especially as i wasn't actually sick for first 12 weeks, just really really nauseous. curious. and unpleasant.
suey2: hope you don't mind my asking, but are you in underwired or soft bras? am 32gg at the mo and struggling to find a soft bra that doesn't just fall down after five minutes. had v depressing time at mothercare this weekend as had been hoping they would save me from the horror of the Doreen www.figleaves.com/uk/nsf/qwiser.asp?term=Triumph+Doreen&src=GOUK913504&gclid=CPP_zKDj_owCFRc- EAodvXkIbw
but nothing big enough
any suggestions?

suey2 · 28/06/2007 13:28

Dundeemarmalade I gave up on those awful soft cup bras about 6 weeks ago! SOOOOO uncomfortable and deeply unattractive. I went to rigby and peller and they told me that the only reason underwires are not recommended in pregnancy is that women cannot be trusted to wear the right size! (that'll be like the booze then)They even do underwired nursing bras!
So I leapt back into underwired bras (definitely a hallelujah moment) : I tend to go into john lewis- they go up to J cup - as the fit per brand seems to vary much more now i am bigger.

MotherofZ · 28/06/2007 13:29

Don't know if my PC is crap - but it can't access the link.

dundeemarmalade · 28/06/2007 13:30

underwired nursing bras? hurrah!!!!! i had visions of actually being house-bound after sproglet is born, unable to cram my brimming bosoms into anything! thanks for this suey.

MotherofZ · 28/06/2007 13:32

With all this talking about heartbeats and if it's a boy or girl, try the link for a bit of fun....

www.childbirth.org/articles/boyorgirl.html

(I've got 48% boy, 52% girl! - lol!)

Loucee · 28/06/2007 14:21

Thanks anyway Suey - sorry I didn't know which area you specialised in! If you do have any tips later on then I'd love to hear. Still feel my stomach muscles aren't right after DD (16mths old). I don't think my MW found DD's HB til I was about 18wks.

Yay for underwired nursing bras!!!!! how fantastic!

DD's heartbeat was usually around 150/155 at MW appointments so I agree that the faster it is points to a girl. Isn't there something else about if it sounds like a train it's a boy and if it sounds like a horse galloping its a girl?

Becklespeckle - lovely that you heard the HB.

RIght, can anyone offer me advice about holidays? I know we've left it really late but we've only just booked time off work. We would love a wk away in a sunny place no longer than 3 hrs flight (shorter the better!) for the 1st wk in August. Just want to play with DD (who will be 18mths then) in the pool/sea, go on some short walks/small day trips. This will be our first holiday abroad with DD and are clueless what to check out before booking somewhere (well obviously that it isn't an 18-30 place etc!!). Can anyone offer advise on what to look out for when booking somewhere or even recommend a resort? Pre kids we went long haul and preferred no-kids-allowed type places so don't have much experience around Europe anyway.

Thanks in advance, really would like to book somewhere

I've semi moved into maternity clothes now. I got some nice items from H&M and have sorted through my olds stuff from DD, feel much more comfy now but feel ridiculous in some things that have space for a huge bump and mine is only small yet!

skidaddle · 28/06/2007 14:29

68%boy for me - I knew it!

PeckaRolloverAgain · 28/06/2007 15:22

I have hired a doppler off ebay! It came yesterday and have been listening in to baby!

Picked the heartbeat up and it is around 154bpm

Such a lovely sound
