Hello all and welcome to this month's thread!!
Let's all stop feeling sick and start expanding now

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MamaMaiasaura · 02/07/2007 13:12

got my screening results through - fab results.

for downs syndrome 1:7825!! (maternal age is usually 1:500 so lot better)

for edwards and pataus syndrome 1:18,886!! (maternal age for me is usually 1:7825)

Very relieved

Caz10 · 02/07/2007 13:12

Hello all!

I bought maternity vests from Top Shop, 2 for £9 i think, and they are wonderful. Wearing them under everything just now to "bridge the gap"! They are ribbed and although you can tell there's lots more stretch in them they are not flapping about too loose at the mo. They are also long enough to cover the fact that your trousers are undone!

Ooooh prize to mad4girls, that must feel so nice! I think 1st timers feel the wriggles a little later!

becklespeckle · 02/07/2007 13:19

Yay Awen for your good screening results!
Just had phone call from hospital about my triple test - aparently I had the test done 1 day early so have to have it done again... Apparently my second scan put me 1 day back from where the first one put me but no-one bothered to tell me! Grrrrr.....

Caz10 · 02/07/2007 13:21

top shop vests

Caz10 · 02/07/2007 13:22

Wow awen that is wonderful!!

Re swimming there was recently a thread on this in pregnancy and people were saying their local pool had age restrictions, so best to check

MotherofZ · 02/07/2007 13:24

well done awen!
i've decided not to have the triple test. anyone else?

Caz10 · 02/07/2007 13:29

I had the bloods taken last week, but wouldn't get any further testing done...so not sure what was the point really?!!

Neuro · 02/07/2007 13:41

Congrats Awen!
I don't know what triple bloods are..

MamaMaiasaura · 02/07/2007 13:46

they test for the risks of baby having downs syndrome, edwards and pataus syndrome.

Caz10 · 02/07/2007 13:53

My paperwork said DS and spina bifida - maybe it is different here? (scotland)

Oh and we would have had to go private for a nuchal too, £200!

becklespeckle · 02/07/2007 14:01

Here it is for DS, Spina Bifida and Edwards, perhaps they test differently everywhere?

MamaMaiasaura · 02/07/2007 14:03

NT scan was for Downs syndrome. THe triple test was the one I just had, hence results for 3 different trisomys 21, 13 and 18.

Spina Bifida is the 20 week scan I think as they look at the spine then/

Neuro · 02/07/2007 14:03

Surely though a nuchal test should be free and standard for everyone?

MamaMaiasaura · 02/07/2007 14:06

hang on - the letter heading says COmbined Test so perhaps this is different.

MamaMaiasaura · 02/07/2007 14:06

nuchal should be free imo, we get it all free here so surely it should be the same countrywide?

becklespeckle · 02/07/2007 14:15

Awen, can I ask when you had your tests done? You are due a few days after me aren't you (due 27th Dec on first scan, 28th by last scan).
Know I am being daft (probably cos I know they only phone you after the tests if there is a problem, therefore I went (briefly) into panic mode) but don't see how 1 day could make that much difference to my tests!

MamaMaiasaura · 02/07/2007 14:30

I had Nuchal Fold scan on Tuesday and the bloods taken straight after. They have to do it before 14 weeks as well afaik. Sounds like they have messed you around beckle xx

You were on the ttc thread werent you (forgetful awen )

skidaddle · 02/07/2007 14:34

Neuro - re your dilemma - think it's impossible to know beforehand whether you will relish some time to yourself after the baby is born (i.e. one more day at work) or whether you will want to spend every second you can with him/her. Can you decide once he/she has been born? I know someone who had a baby three months ago and is counting the days until she can go back to work (although she has wanted children for years and coompletely adores her ds), and I take every opportunity to skip work and be with dd at the expense of my PhD (and kind of imagined I would be keen to get back to work before I had her) so I reckon you will only know once he/she is here. Not much help i know but I don't think you can possibly know at this stage

Loucee · 02/07/2007 14:50

MotherofZ I declined the blood tests too. In my area they don't give you the 1 in x risk they just say if you're High or Low risk.
Caz10 - in South Lanarkshire we get the triple test, maybe it varies from area to area? I've forgotten which area you come under up here.

Suey/Neuro I've been pulling my belly in at every opportunity and DH has as well since he has decided his bump is growing at the same rate as mine! When you said about those women with bulging bellies Suey - would it be possible for them to get their transverus back through exercise?

Becklespeckle - our anetal care is the same here too - with DD (16mths old) I had quite a few appointments but like you my next one isn't until 28wks (but we're having a private 20wk scan done when I'll be 21wks so that's my next thing to look forward to). I was also shocked at the long gap inbetween appointments.

Does anyone know the quick way to find out which leisure centres hold antenal classes apart from calling up every centre individually? I can't go to my local class as it's on a day I work and would mean 3 hours out of the working day to attend.

Skidaddle - is your DD in a bed or a cot? I'm trying to think ahead to when will be best to move DD to one (she's a long way off at the moment)

Hope every is ok

I don't know how to do it but does anyone agree it's time for a new thread? THis one is so long it takes my browser a while to load it and it's July now! Yippeee

becklespeckle · 02/07/2007 14:50

Thanks Awen. Guessing they must do the tests slightly differently here or something, they insisted the tests must be done after 14 weeks! Lucky I don't mind blood tests too much, still a pain though! You got your results really quickly too! Unless there is something wrong we have to wait 2-3 weeks for a letter here.

MotherofZ · 02/07/2007 15:14

Loucee - Won't your midwife tell you where all the antenatal classes are held?? I got a list at my booking appointment and was advised to advanced book for later on as they get filled up quickly.
Gosh, I was thinking ahead aswell about my dd (18 mths) where she will sleep when the little one arrives? In the cot at the moment, and ideally would like to get her used to the bed by the time Dec arrives (so I can use the cot for the second one!)

Neuro · 02/07/2007 15:23

Thanks Skidaddle. I need to stop planning too much.

suey2 · 02/07/2007 15:35

I had the combined test (nuchal+ blood) at 12 weeks and they came back to me in 4 days with a 1:13,000 risk (NHS): not bad for an old boiler!

Re transversus- yes, you can get it back, although you may end up with a little gap in the sit up muscle that doesn't go away. Some women get the flat tummy back automatically through exercise/ lifestyle as they have always used it automatically, which is why it is not consistent. Pilates is fantastic if the sucking in stuff doesn't work: but i will update you gals after we give birth on how you can get it going in lots of different ways. I saw a mate yesterday who is 7 months and the belly was pretty scary! AND she has 2 months to go. Seems like AGES till december!

skidaddle · 02/07/2007 15:40

Loucee - my dd is still in a cot but we are looking for a 2nd hand toddler bed at the mo for her as I want her to be used to it by the time new baby arrives (and not to feel like the new baby has taken her cot away from her) - we're only getting a toddler bed because we only have two bedrooms and they will have to share and so space is a bit of an issue - what do you think you're going to do? I am a bit worried that dd will just get up and come into our bed every single night once she is free to escape!!

skidaddle · 02/07/2007 15:41

suey2 - every time I see a post from you I involuntarily suck my stomach in!!!
