Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I know how that one goes Skidaddle! DH is feeling very frustrated at the mo - doesn't quite get that being jiggled around won't make me feel any better! Luckily he was home on Tuesday morning !

Curlygirly · 07/06/2007 20:15

Evening all,
Had my scan today and all is well and there's just the one tucked away in there! They did a nuchal scan which was a good result but I have to wait a while for the blood test results but hopefully all will be ok.
The midwife taking my notes at the hospital said are you hoping for a girl as you already have 2 boys? Couldn't believe she would even think that.
Also had my booking in appointment with community m/w today. Was meant to be end of the month but she wanted to do it today.
Busy day in the curly house!

Beanstermummy · 08/06/2007 10:25

Blimy Curly - busy busy - fingers crossed for the nuchal results - JFI did you get that on the NHS or private?

I'm trying not to get stressed but we're seeing the MW this afternoon - to get the results of the dating scan I had 3 weeks ago!!!! My confidence in the entire system up here in Stirling is at rock bottom after the disaster of a visit to Dr (see previous post about her complete lack of knowledge on Nuchal scans, blood tests etc!!), having to have a scan then no results for 3 weeks and even getting a letter inviting me for my dating scan and booking next week - then being questioned as to was I sure I'd had a scan when I called to cancel and explain I had already had one..............

I have been looking at info now re. getting a private midwife as I'm getting in such a stress about it all - just don't have the confidence that if anything really was needed from the MW or Dr they would offer the care I want - and think we are all entitled too.

Anyone out there with any experience of a private MW? DH says we can't afford it (true) and says see how it goes - but my head is scrambled

Sorry to be negative today - trying to have happy thoughts and all that

PeckaRolloverAgain · 08/06/2007 12:26

Beanstermummy - a good (more affordable) alternative to an Independant Midwife is a Doula.

A doula isnt medical like an IM would be but might be enough to bridge the gap in the substandard care you feel you are recieving.

A doula would support you emotionally, provide information and help to be your advocate to achieve the type of birth you want.

I am on but Im not being biased in recommending one!

To find out more you can see Doula UK

Nbg · 08/06/2007 16:14

I cant believe that this time last year we were moving and I was 2 months away from having ds
One year on and I'm pg again lol.

I know what I forgot to mention. When my MW called to arrnage my appt for Sunday, she said that my appt after that wont be until 25 weeks!
I was sure I saw them before that last time.

BunnyBaby · 08/06/2007 16:21

Beanstermummy - We had to go for an independent midwife as the NHS care in our area is atrocious. This is also my first, and I want the baby at home with continuity of care, and not be left to labout alone with 1 midwife between 24 of us. Our trust is the most in debt in the country. And I had to go private for my 12 week scan as only offered one at 21 weeks!!! As soon as I made the decision, I felt completely relaxed and my IM is wonderful. Though I am annoyed I have to go down this route and the NHS is so underfunded in this area.

Anyway - I'm 15 weeks tomorrow, and had been quite pleased as I was hovering 1lb under pre-pregnancy weight, until this week when I gained 5lbs out of nowhere!!! Anyone else experienced anything similar. It puts me at normal weight gain, but I have to say I'm worried about continuing at this rate of gain. Hopefully its a blip.

tabimum · 08/06/2007 18:28

Is it too late for me to join in? Am due 27th Dec - but although have been reading this thread for ages now, and following all your stories was too superstitious to join until after my dating scan (which I had today). Have a 13month old DD. Cant believe there are so many Xmas babies due!!

Curlygirly · 08/06/2007 20:52

beanster- the nuchal scan was NHS. When I had ds2 I had to go private so they have introduced this in the last 2 years. Can't believe how different each NHS trust is.
Think my hospital is the last one around the won't tell you the baby's sex, not that I want to know anyway!

Welcome tabimum.

BeachBunni · 08/06/2007 21:49

Hi tabimum. Congratulations. I know there's loads of christmas babies. I can't wait to see the march thread start soon!!

I can't believe the difference in care depending on which area you live in. I have to say I feel pretty lucky with the fact I get three scans and any midwives I've seen so far seem lovely and clued up. It really is a postcode lottery.

Bunnybaby - I've put on 2lbs in just the past couple of days. I'm just over 14wks so may be matching you at 15 at this rate. I wouldn't worry about it as I'd say a lot of it is water, which is what baby needs. I have to say I feel slightly relieved - I was starting to worry because I wasn't putting any on.

Furrymummy · 09/06/2007 07:59

Pecka, I too am thinking of getting a doula, not so much for the birth but for afterwards, as my mum will not be able to stay for very long after the birth as she works, and she lives 260 miles away, my ils live 160 miles away and my nearest friends 25 miles away! So am worried that I will feel cut off and alone when DH goes back to work
Of course I will still have the lovely ladies on Mumsnet to talk to as well, I'll probably be asking for lots of virtual hugs!!
Welcome Tabimum!! IKWYM about xmas babies, March turned out to be a very fertile month

Housemum · 09/06/2007 08:54

Good morning all, hi to Tabimum. Feeling good but expanding now - went through my wardrobe yesterday, 2 boxes of clothes put aside for now that won't fit for some time! Have got 2 pairs of trousers that should last a week or so then it's maternity gear from there on...

peanutbutter · 09/06/2007 19:27

hello all, phew it's hot isn't it? congrats on the scan curlygirly. I bought some summery maternity clothes yesterday after getting a shock when I tried to order from the Next catalogue and everything i'd chosen was out of stock. My bumpband arrived today too, so I'm feeling less panic stricken about facing the summer months & sweltering in the wrong clothes.

Don't talk about weight gain i'm feeling so fat already. I gained far too much last time, still carrying a stone extra from that, so I really can't afford to pile it on again

Hope everyone's making the most of this lovely summery sunshine this weekend

jinxed · 09/06/2007 19:31

nbg - i am seeing my mw on thursday, and then wont see her until 25/26 weeks - they class the 20 week scan as an appointment now! Never used to!

after that it is 30 weeks, 34 weeks, 36 weeks, 38 weeks and then weekly to delivery.

jinxed · 09/06/2007 19:32

ooooh and got some LOVELY maternity trousers from Next today - black boarding trousers, some gorgeous belted jeans and a pair of joggers.

Well worth the money as i can see me living in them!

Loucee · 09/06/2007 22:58

HI everyone

Welcome Tabi - never to late to join a thread IMO! COngratulations on your pregnancy, look forward to chatting with you.

Furrymum and Beanster - I had no idea a Doula comes to your house after the birth? How long does that last? I felt very alone and cut off after DD as my family are all down south (420 miles away) and DH's family is very small and all work FT. I tried to look into a maternity nurse but was unsuccessful in finding one that would cover my area. I think a Doula is what I need, anyone on here know a good one that covers the Hamilton area? Thinking back to DD's birth I was going crazy with the amount of MW changes during labour and after the birth wish I'd had someone knowing my wishes and knowing what is the mothers right etc whereas I just did what they said and regret not asking to hold DD sooner (she was put in an incubator for 3.5hrs but it wasn't switched on, noone can tell me why she was in there but at the time DH and I felt like 15yrs old).

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend, it's been glorious weather but DH has a touch of sunstroke which put a brake on our trip to the local Gala day.

buzzybee · 10/06/2007 03:53

Is it too late to add another Christmas baby? Due 25 Dec so just about 12 weeks!! Have a 5 yo DD who is very excited - am taking her to the nuchal scan on Thur this week. She is "demanding" a boy, we'll see!
Care in NZ is completely standard across NZ and there's not really such a thing as "private" although you can pay for an Ob. So nuchal scan is standard but can't get nuchal+bloods test here at all.
I went and bought a skirt with stretchy waistband yesterday although am still getting by wearing pants that I had in my wardrobe from when I was a size bigger.
Hormones seem to be settling down a but...

angelhunter · 10/06/2007 05:35

Hi Buzzybee
where in New Zealand are you I'm in Hamilton and due December 1st. I haven't had a chance to get on Mumnet for a while.
Had first scan a couple of weeks ago and they tried to change the due date to 9th December but the midwife disagreed as she was able to detect the heart beat really easily so she says we will stick with the 1st December. She also says she would be highly surprised if I was still pregnant by the 9th December

Nbg · 10/06/2007 08:53

Welcome BuzzyBee
Another christmas day baby!

Wonder how many of them will arrive on Christmas day though?

Loucee, A doula can be with you for about 6 weeks I think. Just generally helping out, letting you get some rest, doing bits of shopping, changing bums that kind of thing. A friend of mine had one and she swapped some of the times she had her in the day and she came at night instead to get up with the baby.
A very good idea IMO!

Jinxed, I got my jeans from Next and my topshop top. Jeans are a bit big but they wont be for long.

I think I have been feeling flutterings over the last few days but am not sure. I have definatley come on though. My boobs seem to have just exploded and I am having awful pain in my nether regions, just like when baby starts to put pressure on it later on in pg. Am wondering if its SPD.
Going back to bed now anyway until MW comes.

thelady · 10/06/2007 11:54

Hmm. Thinking about doulas here too, but probably won't go that way. Would rather have the money to get a cot....

We're self-employed hoteliers and DH is the chef (in case anyone had missed that ) so although I will be spending a lot of time on my own, he will be in the same building.

We're hoping my parents will be able to come over from South Africa after tadpole arrives - the plan currently is for them to fly on Xmas day, which it's cheaper. DH's mum is an hour away, though she's well into her 70s and probably won't be more than a moral support.

Congrats to all the new mums-to-be on the list - we are getting a big group, aren't we!

Nbg · 10/06/2007 17:00

thalady, that must be nice to know your dh is there if you need him.

Well the MW came at lunch time so I had a nice morning in bed. She actually woke me up lol and I had me antenatal appt in my PJ's lol!
Anyway, everythings fine and we heard a good strong heartbeat
Dont get my next appt till 24/25 weeks, then after that its 28 weeks, 32, 34, 36, 38 and delivery hopefully!
She did say I would need to see the consultant at 36 weeks for babys position to be determined as they have had a couple of missed breechs before.
Also was talking to her about birth pools. She said you need to have a good supply of water and constant as the temp needs to be at 37c all the time and it takes about 4 baths full to fill it!!!
So not sure about it now. I normally like to just do my own thing and flake out near the end

Curlygirly · 10/06/2007 19:48

Nbg- I've felt flutterings too. First one was on Wednesday. It's so quick though. A fleeting flutter.

Also picked up some fab cropped jeans from next today, also quite large but am sure with a few more galaxy's I'll be able to fill them!

cazzybabs · 10/06/2007 19:51

Nbg - I am also getting pains (I think its constipation - ahh the joys of being pregnancy!). God my tummy is expanding fast too. I think I am getting flutterings too, but it is hard to tell at the moment.

I am so tired. Have cycled about 10 miles today and we are moving house on Tuesday - ahhhh - so am supposed to be tiding. I can't!

BeachBunni · 10/06/2007 19:54

Hello to everyone new

That's really good news on your appt Nbg. Wish I could have had mine in my pj's rather than sitting in a hospital for three hours.

Very jealous your dh will be home for support thelady. Dp only gets one week off stat and one wk unpaid. But you never know, he gets full pay sick so that could be a way to work round it.

I'm really starting to show. Dp and I have been keeping different schedules the past couples of days so we haven't really seen much of each other. Last night when I got to get ready for bed he noticed my stomach and was quite shocked at the size and that it's come from nowhere in such a short space of time. I'm quite liking it though

mad4girls · 10/06/2007 21:53

hello ladies
sorry not posted this week have been reading but keeping quiet been a hectic week

beggining of the week was quite scary as i had terrble cramps and got very upset and got into a state about it even rang the mw as i hadnt had any sickness all w/e and felt sure something was going wrong but she reassured me and told me to have full bed rest which i did and got some sleep as had been up all night with pains seemed to clear by the evening and then negan to feel a fool for getting so worked up

guess it was hormones as well as i cried at doctor who last week

anyway ms is back in full swing now never thought i would be glad for it to return but i was still havent had any ante natal appt sincem 8 wks and now 14 but mw said she wanted to see me on tuesday but i cant as dd2 having genral anasthetic so she made an appt for following tuesday be 16 wks then seems like along way between appt but what do i know?

anyway hope everyone is ok sorry if a bit rushed but wnat to do the roast dishes before the food sets hard on the plates IYKWIM

take care will catch up properly in the week

thelady · 11/06/2007 00:18

Self-employed does have its benefits, I agree. Being on call 24/7 isn't one, though! I hope I'll manage to take time off after the birth, as we plan, though being in the same building and apparently available may make that hard.

mad4girls: I'm glad your horrid week is over.

Wish I was feeling tadpole already, but as my placenta is anterior it will probably be even later than usual for a first baby - all that extra cushioning between me and the kicking

I too have suddenly expanded below and around the waist. The most noticable, however, is the additional increase in bust size. sigh. New bras again!
