Let's all stop feeling sick and start expanding now

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
bambino1andbump · 05/06/2007 14:32

Pecka i'm sure all will be fine. I will be watching out to see how it goes.

Anyone know what time fifisworls scan is?

I'm in a nesting mood today! I have done 4 loads of washing (one of which is all the neutral newborn stuff out of loft. Started crying when pulled out outfit I brung dd home from hosp in).
I have hoovered house from top to bottom and keep cleaning kitchen counter top! Very strange.

Can't believe maternity clothes will be going to autumn range already! We are skint this month. Think it will have to be an ebay job!

Back to work tomo.

Neuro · 05/06/2007 14:43

I know what you mean Pecka, I sort of can't believe there's anything in my tummy til i see it on screen. How exciting yours is next Tuesday. Cool-e-rama!
Bambino - what is a tie top? I need some help in disgusing myself!
Is anyone else a first time future mum in their 30's? I'm trying to persuade a close friend who is 37 to get some of her eggs frozen as she is miles away from having kids and says she's not that bothered, so i said to her you might not be bothered now but that might all change when you meet and fall in love with a fantastic guy when you're say 42 and suddenly all you want to do is make babies with him. It is expensive though (£2k).
Have any mums on here ever used a nappy laundry service? I'm quite keen on the sound of that...apparently a local company here do twice weekly pick ups. Not sure i can face all the washing as i'll be single parent and will need to make things as easy for myself as poss.

peanutbutter · 05/06/2007 14:45

Neuro, I would have used our local nappy laundering service, but mil bought me my MEOS and TotsBots and wraps when i was pregnant with ds. These nappy collection schemes seem great.

Nbg · 05/06/2007 14:48

Great news Pecka!

Neuro, nappy laundry service sounds great! We use disposables but I was quite keen on having a go at resuables with ds. However dh is not so pleased about it lol.

Re the peanuts. With both dd and ds I was told no peanuts. This time I have been told no nuts at all.
IMO everything in moderation. The new guidelines about no alcohol at all werent actually based on any new research. Its just the government think its wise to say none at all.

My gorgeous MW called me at lunch to arrange my next appt. So shes coming to me on Sunday morning.
I think I want her to adopt me. Shes so fab

fifisworld · 05/06/2007 15:19

Im back,

Had my scan this morning and everything was fine

Im so relieved. My dates were one day out so it made me 12 weeks today.

skidaddle · 05/06/2007 15:38

great news fifi

Housemum · 05/06/2007 15:45

Re clothes - the assistant in Mothercare told me that they will be reducing some of the maternity clothing at the end of this month - keep your eyes peeled for the sale signs! At the moment they have buy-one-get-one-half-price on tops and trousers.

Re nuts - I thought it was just peanuts that were to be avoided unless you specifically had nut allergies in the family? I have hay fever so was told to avoid peanuts, but I've been eating cashews instead (though not often).

Housemum · 05/06/2007 15:58

Ooh - this is expensive but I fancy trying it - swimming classes for babies - the ones where they go underwater. I obviously have too much time on my hands to think about stuff like this alredy... They do them all over the country, and they do a photoshoot at the end of each term. How cool would that be (like the cover of the Nirvana album...)

BunnyBaby · 05/06/2007 16:04

Neuro: tie-tops are like cardigans, but instead of buttoning, they have long bits you just tie across the middle. This hides the "pop-out" I'm developing, and I just feel a lot more comfortable in them as you just wear a cami or vest top under them. I'm 30 at the moment, and will be 31 when baby bunny gets here, this will be our first.

Pecka: We were the same for 'hoping someone in there' and there was, so all the best, and it's not long to go. I only get a 20 week scan on the NHS as Hillingdon are skint (so much for paying 40% tax!). So we had to go private for 12 week one.

bambino1andbump · 05/06/2007 16:16

Fifi - Great news that scan went well. Told you all would be fine. Did you get all emotional like me?

fifisworld · 05/06/2007 16:22

Bambino- Yes i did i looked at the screen and as soon as i saw the heart beating my eyes filled up.
Next scans not until 31st July though which seems like ages away now.

Neuro · 05/06/2007 16:22

OHMYGOD i just read some of the posts on the Childbirth section and now i feel scared. Eeeeek. Don't think i'll read anymore...

BunnyBaby · 05/06/2007 16:29

Wow, there are 40 of us on the list now!!

skidaddle · 05/06/2007 16:43

bunnybaby, those tie-up cargigans are exactly what i've been looking for - any tips on where to get some?

housemum - I know a few people who have been to waterbabies and have really loved it - never went because of the expense (plus dp is a trained swim instructor so he does the job just as well ) but I'm sure it's really good

Neuro - anppy laundering services are supposed to be even more environmentally friendly than washing your own so definitely go for it - my only reservation would be that 3.5days of dirty napies is A LOT of nappies when you have a newborn - you would need a HUGE nappy bucket!
And stop looking at the childbirth threads!!!

BunnyBaby · 05/06/2007 16:58

skidaddle - I think they are also called "wrap tops", "tie fronts" and "cover ups" too. I get mine from www.longtallsally.co.uk, and hopefully can wear them all the way through.

However - this is a shop for tall women, they'll probably be ok on your body, but you'll need long arms.

I just googled the above and it would seem Boden have some in standard sizes (scroll to bottom of page) www.boden.co.uk/col.asp?segname=women&styid=WL370&segid=6&gpname=Jersey+Tops&desname=Crinkle+Tie+Front+Top&gpid=27&gen=1

bambino1andbump · 05/06/2007 17:00

My next scan is 6th August! Seems like years away but i bet it goes really quick! I bet the whole experience goes really fast! We'll be singing christmas carols and maneovering our huge bumps around the packed shops full of christmas shoppers before we know it!!

Neuro · 05/06/2007 17:08

skidaddle i've got a garage so thought i could keep a stinky nappy bin out there. Have to go up some long steps to get to garage which might be a good anti lard exercise at the end of every day. I'm into being environmentally friendly on the nappy subject, whilst using a few disposables on days out and stuff. I have some foreign neighbours who despite me explaing how our bins work, keep chucking used nappies in the recyling bin, and when the bins are full up and overflowing (most weeks) they just leave them on the top, it's disgusting as they get blown off sometimes. It's not a foreign issue though, plenty of other neightbours just don't care and chuck their non recyucling stuff in there.
Oh no i'm banging on about rubbish. Literally! Sorry...it does make me cross though.

BeachBunni · 05/06/2007 17:15

Ha bambino. I refuse to do christmas shopping this year. Dp and I have decided to cancel Christmas as I think we'll have our hands full at that stage. That makes me sound like a total scrooge but I hate Christmas and so does he. We've been looking for excuse for years. The plan is I'll cook a nice big dinner and get drunk while he looks after mini-bunni.

Great news on your scan Fifi and good luck for next wk Pecka. I couldn't quite believe there was a baby in there until I seen it with my own eyes either.

As for the peanut thing. I said to the mw that surely exposure is better than abstinence but I'm still being a bit cautious. My family has a tendency to develop sudden allergic reactions. Although I still cook stir-fries with peanut oil and eat other nuts. And I so have not listened to the pepperoni, cheese stuff. My theory is - if it's cooked, it's fine.

Have been nesting a bit myself. Couldn't sleep a wink last night so gave up at 4 and went downstairs. Started cleaning out the fridge and ended up clearing out and disinfecting all the cupboards. Dp thought I'd gone mad but didn't hear him telling me to stop strangely enough

skidaddle · 05/06/2007 17:28

thanks bunny baby - they are really nice, might splash out if I'm feeling extravagant

Neuro - how annoying of your neighbours - that would drive me mad. My neighbour does the opposite - comes out and drops his newspaper into the wheelie bin when his recycle box is right next to it

beachbunni - my dp hates xmas too and would love to cancel it - i have told him this is his very last chance to be a grumpy sh1t at xmas as next year dd will be three and all excited about santa and if he ruins it for her I will kill him - I think me being in labour on xmas day would be a relief for him - no christmas crackers and turkey to moan about

Caz10 · 05/06/2007 18:19

Hi all! Wow this thread moves fast! Glad I am not the only one needing maternity clothes at this early stage, I feel HUGE!! Hardly any of my trousers and NONE of my jeans do up. Some of my work skirts still fit but then I have to wear tights and they are too tight!! Have just had a wee scrounge round Ebay as money is v tight here. Good shout re the maternity sales too, we are probably all timing this pregnancy lark well from that point of view! Also as someone said to me today, all these floaty smock tops that are in fashion now will be in the sales at the end of the summer, and you could just wear them with a long sleeve top under in the winter.

Congrats to all of those who have had their scans! Ours was great but also a bit of an anti climax the woman was so short with us and we were in and out in about a minute. I didn't have time to get teary before we were chucked out the door! Just glad there was something in there!

Curlygirly · 05/06/2007 18:31

Great scan news fifi. Got my scan on Thursday, can't wait.

cazzybabs · 05/06/2007 19:54

OMG my friend just phoned up to tell me she was catching me up on the babies front as she is having her 1st on the 14th Dec. But it was like "erghh no love sorry - I shall remain 2 ahead for the moment!".

All very exciting! And quite cool but one of the many reasons I was gutted about mc 2 was that my best friend was due 3 weeks after me and I was looking forward to fat together, but I don't really have any friends who are/have been pregnant. All the people I know in real life have had their children already.

Castanet · 05/06/2007 20:15

Beanstermummy, thanks for that. However, in my advanced age of 38, I'm sure the numbers will be nasty, so pretty sure will have the CVS. A question though, have looked at the private test that will cost £450but the doctor is the best in the country; does NHS do CVS for free, ever, or do you have to pay for it regardless? Many thanks!

Housemum · 05/06/2007 21:09

Castanet - I'm doing the ostrich bit at the mo - just sticking my head in the sand - so haven't researched tests too much, but any particular reason you'd go for CVS rather than amnio? I thought the risks were slightly higher with CVS? (As in amnio 1%, CVS 1 - 2%) I'm 39, so have alreadyhad the MW pencil the depressing stats on my notes - something like 1 in 89 for any problems, 1 in 137 for Downs, hoping that the combined nuchal scan & blood test will improve the odds so it comes back as a medium risk or low risk then I won't have to consider testing.
