OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
skidaddle · 04/06/2007 17:51

Thanks housemum, like the stuff you got. Will have a look at the other links too later...

Neuro - my tummy is massively sticking out! I look about 5 months pg!!

Good luck tomorrow fifi, let us know how it goes

Thanks Nbg, I fainted all the way through my pg with dd, think I am just a bit of a fainty type! Was anaemic when young and had really low hb last time so think it is just the way my pregnancies go. Better than constipation and sciatica!

Nbg · 04/06/2007 17:55

I'm a bit of a fainter too.

How do you cope with it though? Have you ever done it when you've been on your own?

BeachBunni · 04/06/2007 18:03

Have been getting bouts of weepiness myself Neuro. Bought a mag to read on the way home on the train last wk and kept sniffling at all the stories to do with sick kids etc. With you on the hot skin, but it's just my tummy and boobs that are boiling at night. Suppose there's lots going on there.

Bambino congrats on the scan. No mention of 3 day labours though please

Fifi good luck for tomorrow

Glad someone else mentioned faintness. Haven't actually fainted but getting dizzy every now and again. Quite breathless at times as well especially walking up flights of stairs.

Thanks for the reassurance, Nbq , glad I'm not the only one in pain.
Will have my nuchal scan next week but have already decided to go for CVS, I need to be sure.... Being the ultimate worrier that I am, I just know that there's no way I can wait til mid December and not go insane (well, totally) with paranoia. Hoping for the best....

Neuro · 05/06/2007 10:28

Arrgghhh x 1000000000000000 I just typed out a message and then shut the window. I am bonkers today. Think i am experiencing a big rush of hormones. I feel really uncomfortable in my body, all yucky, like i used to just before my period. Urgh. And i still haven't told anyone at work so i'm trying hard to hold in my tummy. On returning home last night my flatmate told me i looked pregnant. i was horrified as i'm trying to disguise it most of the time unless at home. I've made the mistake of wearinig lots of baggy tops lately which are actually making me look bigger than i am! So, back to fitted tops for a few weeks.
Am dreading college as it's mostly women on my course and i know us women are terribly beady eyed! I'll blame the weight gain on having given up smoking 5 months ago, IF someone is mean enough to point out my extra weight.
OK, so today i am going to try to remain calm and not get angry/hysterical/cry about anything small!
Oh yeah, my baby is due on Christmas Day so am hoping it's a bit early as i don't want to miss out on family fun not to mention the scoffing!
Hope you all have a lovely, sane day!
Beller - what did your dad say about your news? Mine was over the moon and couldn't stop telling strangers.

Beanstermummy · 05/06/2007 10:48

How many posts since last Thursday????? it takes me longer to catch up with MN than work e-mails over the weekend these days

Not much news here - told my bosses I'd be needing Mat Leave in October and they were really chuffed for me which was good - never sure of the reaction as I work in the construction Industry which is pretty male dominated. Relief though to not have to hide things any more

Have finally calmed down after crap Doctor visit on Wed - will be seeing MW again on Fri so will sort things out re. blood tests etc with her and hopefully not have to see nasty witch Doctor again.

Castanet - we had the Nuchal scan a few weeks ago, with the view to probably having CVS or Amnio if the results were only ok. But risk values were sooooooo good that we decided not to risk the invasive tests. You might be suprised at your result.

Cazzybabs - please do not mention Pimms again - craving tall iced gallon buckets of the stuff, or ice cold stella, or crisp very dry white wine..............you can see the pattern emerging here!! It must be said, although I did have the odd glass of wine with DD (within recommended limits I add) even the odd sip now just doesn't hit the spot at all. May have to try TheLadys suggestion. Hint to DH/DP's etc though - I was brought a can of ready mixed G&T and one of Pimms into the hopstital when DD was born to say thank you - even the nurses let me have that one - V good

Anyway - suppose I should be off and try and do some work for a change - maybe??!!!! Can't believe how quickly the time is passing though - nearly 15 weeks now for me and it really only seems a few days ago that I first logged on here and there were a few of us tentatively due Dec - roll on Winter heh !!

Speak soon and happy thoughts to you all

becklespeckledfrog · 05/06/2007 10:54

Morning all! Hope everyone okay. Congrats to all those who've had scans in the last few days! for those of you whose MS is subsiding now...mine seems to be getting worse! Not too bad in the daytime but in the evening - bleugh. Clothes are definitely getting tighter, couple of pairs of trousers are very difficult to sit down in now although I think I have lost some of my own weight IYKWIM as my thighs seem slimmer - maybe that is just compared to my bulgy tum and newly massive boobs though! I definitely get dizzy and lightheaded when pg, my blood pressure is very low, particularly when I am pg, although I am lucky enough that I don't tend to faint.
I am currently very cross at a friend of mine who I told about this pg in confidence. She has told another friend of mine (who I specifically asked her not to tell) and that friend has now gone and told another friend and god knows how many other people! Thankfully the friend she told was in on the secret but I deliberatley didn't tell this girl as I know what a big mouth she has! I am just hoping now she is not telling everyone who knows me but I can't speak to her about it cos I don't want to drop my other friend in it! So now we have to work out who she might tell who will be offended and let them know when I would rather have kept it secret for a couple more weeks until I get past the 'danger' bit. Grrrrr....
Sorry bout that, just needed to rant!

Anyone else missing?
beckle - IKWYM, DH went and blabbed to someone I asked him not to tell. And I found out when I got an email from them congratulating me!!!
Hope everyone's okay, me mild m/s and headaches mostly! Been feeling very very tired too....

peanutbutter · 05/06/2007 11:24

beckle - how annoying at your friend not keeping it zipped! Probably best to try not to stress about it now if you can possibly help it. My BP gets low in pregnancy too - hovered around 100/50 with ds. Hope you're feeling less nauseous soon.

Curlygirly · 05/06/2007 11:32

Morning all.
Had an embarrassing moment at ds1 nursery today. One of the mums came over and said congratulations, that's great news! I said thanks and how did she know. She told me who told her and I was speechless as it was my cousin and a friend. As she was chatting I realised she was congratulating me on getting a long awaited school place for ds1! I went really red and started talking rubbish !

becklespeckledfrog · 05/06/2007 12:05

Oops CurlyGirly! My DH let slip to a friend in a similar way the other day too! Easily done (although we have our pg hormones to blame!)
Peanutbutter, how are you?! I am another who sees your name and just wants to eat peanut butter on toast! I ate loads of it after my m/c but went off it the month I conceived! Want it now again though - boohoo! My BP is a little lower than yours, usually around 80/55 but sometimes it does go up or down a little.
Furrymummy, are you okay? Glad your MS is getting milder, mine seems to be getting worse, feel okay in the daytimes now, just v hungry but in the evenings - bleugh! V tired still too and very much looking forward to the 'glowing' bit that comes next!

Neuro · 05/06/2007 12:11

becklespeckledfrog - why can't you eat peanut butter? my midwife said it was ok, but then no one in my family has asthma, excema or any food allergies.
I want to eat peanut butter on toast right now.
drool

becklespeckledfrog · 05/06/2007 12:16

Hi Neuro, MW said it was best not to have peanuts because it can cause the baby to be allergic apparently. Also there are lots of people in my family with excema, a couple with asthma and a couple with allergies (although I don't suffer with any of them).

Beanstermummy · 05/06/2007 12:34

Is it only me, but the world seems such a 'what if sort' of place these days. Surely by removing things from our diets and environment we are encouraging potential allergies as our children are simply not being exposed to things as children were generations ago. My DH has inherited asthma from his Mum (who's allergic to loads of things) and is allergic to cats and horses, but at no point did anyone suggest I cut out peanuts?? Don't get me wrong though bespeckledfrog - if my MW or Doc suggested something I'm sure I'd follow - just look at how we cut out cheese and alchohol these days but we were all born fine and dandy weren't we - but I still leave the Dolcelatte and Pino Grigo for my DH !! Just having a wee moan about the state of the world and all that - please don't take offence anyone. Ont he same topic, what do folks think of the report today that reckons we are inhibiting our chidrens development by not letting them play on their own with frinds etc outwith the house boundaries these days??????

Wow - all very deep and meaningful for me - blame the hormones

Ambi · 05/06/2007 12:43

Peanut, warrington does 3d scans? fab, that's my hospital. Am interested in it as it's my first, but feel torn as also think money can be better spent elsewhere. Prob will end up getting it cos I can't stop looking at the scan picture I have.

becklespeckledfrog · 05/06/2007 12:53

I totally agree Beanstermummy! They change the guidelines all the time too, for example they used to tell you to eat liver when pg cos good for you but now its a big no-no. Perhaps we are inhibiting our children's development keeping them within the boundaries of the house and garden but things have changed. I was allowed to play out from the age of 6 with my brother who was 4. When I was 11 I used to go to the local woods for the day with a group of friends and was allowed to take my 3 year old brother with me, we would be gone all day with no mobile phones for our parents to check up on us and we were fine! Saying all that, I would not let my DSs (7 and 4.5) play out in the street, I think there are too many strange people about these days (or maybe just more brought to our attention) and also loads more traffic than there was 20 years ago!

becklespeckledfrog · 05/06/2007 12:54

And as for peanuts, I just thought it was a general thing we were all told to avoid! I certainly was told that with my last 2 pgs but perhaps they have changed the guidelines again!

Beanstermummy · 05/06/2007 13:11

bespeckle you got me thinking then - I used to cycle over to my best friends house 4 miles away when I was 11 or so - as you say with no mobile etc! Can't imagine me letting DD do that when she's older. We moved house recently and decided on a new build box - for family reasons more than anything else. The whole development has been designed with Children in mind with a couple of small play areas, tonnes of speed bumps and the houses all centred around small cul-de-sacs and lots of open space and important sight lines very prominent. Already there aqre little possies (?) of yoofs (!!) aged 4 to 7 or so mooching around - with parents checking on them and the general feeling of community being established. Having that and not living on a street with traffic etc will be a god send when DD and Button Baby are older.

As for peanuts - I thought it was only if there was a history of specific nut allergy in the family that you should avoid them? Good job I feel sick normally at the sight and smell of peanut putter really As for Liver - yeuk !! Now, a pint of guiness would go down well if they changed the 'rules' on that one??

Neuro · 05/06/2007 13:16

More peanuts - yes, i believe if you have anything like asthma or exzema you do have to avoid peanuts. However, on the subject of us all being ultra careful about stuff, i think primarily best to listen to what your own body is telling you.
My mum smoked all the way through her pregnancy with me and i am v healthy with no allergies (altho a midget at 5'5 compared with my three 6ft brothers), and she also ate a lot of liver with one of my brothers because she craved it. That brother is also fine.
And as for not being able to play outside, well it did say on the radio that is no more unsafe for kids playing outside than 20 yrs ago, but as someone has written on here, there was much less road traffic. I remember going off in a pack with all my siblings all day and really no one knew where we were! We would come home when we were hungry. I think the best thing is simply to rear hardy, well informed little uns. The more closeted people/children are i think the more vulnerable they become. But hey, i'm only preggers with my first baby so i'm sure i'll change my opinion later on.
My dad lives in the middle of nowhwere in Scotland and when the bean is old enough i'll send it off with a chum or two and a packed lunch and say go wander. But wouldn't do that here in my town.

Neuro · 05/06/2007 13:21

Also in my early pregnancy when i didn't know i went out twice for dinner and indulged in seafood platters which included plenty of raw oysters and cocktails, not to mention a few post dinner smokes.
Sometimes worrying probably does as much harm as a plate of shellfish!

Beanstermummy · 05/06/2007 13:42

Hands up to vote neuro voice of reason for the day Don't worry be happy motto of the day

Just like my health visitor who stated breatfeeding was bloody hard work and congratulated anyone getting past a few weeks - rather that preach the 6months, you should all be able to do it fine schpeel....and also reckoned a good large glass of red wine was better than paracetamol anyday!! my kind of lady

As for binges prior to bumps being known about - I have celebrated both times at the BFP evening with a bottle of champers and can't actaully pinpoint conception of DD as was too pissed 3 nights on the trot!! (not even sure we did one night.................)

peanutbutter · 05/06/2007 13:45

yes I also thought it was only if you have a history of allergies in the family that you should avoid peanuts. I have fond memories of leaving the house with a carrier bag of sandwiches and a small plastic bottle of Panda pop on my bike and roaming for miles. Also skating from one end of Morecambe prom (where I grew up) to the other on my roller skates and not coming home til tea time, with no questions asked about where I'd been or anything.

Ambi, i don't think the 3d scanning place is actually within Warrington hospital, but here's a link for you.
www.innervision3d.co.uk/index.php I've found one even nearer - Tarleton, on the way to Southport, so I'll keep that one in mind for when i'm around 24/26 weeks.

Did anyone read Zoe Williams column in the Guardian recently about being given mountains of "unscientific advice" during pregnancy - here

BunnyBaby · 05/06/2007 13:46

Hello Ladies..

At last the heartburn and nausea has subsided, I was 14 weeks on Saturday. I am now developing a belly, but my tie-tops are doing a good job of disguising it.

For maternity clothes - you must all get your skates on! A friend tells me that the autumn collections will be in the shops over the next couple of weeks. If you don't get summery stuff now, you will all cook over the summer.

Went to Oxford Street with hubby last weekend to get lots of vests and sleeveless tops so I don't bake, though it was hard trying them on and imagining how big I'll look.

Here are my recommendations:

www.bumpband.co.uk I ordered 2 of these, yes they're more expensive than topshop but much better quality.

Gap - now have maternity wear. Lots of nice tops and jeans (though they don't do long lengths the assistant told me they hope to soon)

Formes - this was expensive at £70 for the most amazingly flattering, stretchy, cool and smart black trousers. I was recommended this place as at 5'11 I was losing the will to live in terms of finding trousers long enough. The lengths here are perfect, but more importantly the cut is excellent too. I only bought 2 pairs of the black pants which are extremely well cut and look good at work (with suit jacket) or with a sweater on the weekend.

Next - ok for tops, trousers just didn't fit which is a shame as I live in next jeans normally.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 05/06/2007 13:51

Yay!! Got my scan through.

Its next Tuesday Im shitting myself now - please let there be a baby in there
