Sorry @peonylover22 I missed your message, I had something similar where she brought a fully live blackbird during labour! Totally stalled things while I tried to get it out! Dh is at work now and out tonight so I'm on my own, have put a trail of breadcrumbs (seriously?!) leading from where it is to the door, not sure what else to do! Found droppings while moving furniture too so will need to do a full deep clean once it's out. 🤢

@MonsterTheMoose I started off in a midwife led unit and it was really lovely. But after 5 hours in the unit splashing about in the pool I’d only dilated another 1cm Hmm and the G&A wasn’t cutting the mustard so I insisted on an epidural, which meant simply crossing the corridor into a different room. So maybe see how far apart they are and whether you could easily transfer if you wanted an epidural?

@hamandpease yes I'm eating raw fish as long as I trust the source, raw fish for human consumption should be flash frozen which kills any parasites, EU regulations, so as long as you trust that's happened as it should it's fine! Even nhs says its OK: www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/pregnancy/is-it-safe-to-eat-sushi-during-pregnancy/#sushi-made-with-raw-fish

@Shampooeeee I'm like that atm. Things are quite stressful in work anyway but I have days where I just cannot face emails, I just can't bear to open them, just in case...

@Murphyrocks Shock I think you're going to have to burn the house down, nothing else for it. I'd be out like a shot! Fingers crossed it clocks the open back door. Good luck for your scan, looking forward to hearing how you get on x

I am freaking and feel like an idiot.

I've been drinking tonic water all week.

I'd say since Saturday I've drunk 2-3 litres

I've just read it's dangerous in pregnancy because of the Quinine???

Panicking now Sad

pushit · 25/07/2018 16:20

@hamandpease I've been drinking it too... had no idea!

Last pregnancy I drank it a fair few times (mainly to cover the fact I was pregnant as pretended it also had the gin). Not quite the same without the key part tho 😂 I also had no idea and no one said not to

hamandpease I’m sure it’s ok I remember reading that the levels in tonic water are very low you would have to be drinking gallons of the stuff.
If it’s not on the NHS food list which I can’t see that it is you will be fine I’m sure

@MoosterTheMoose I had the majority of my labour in the midwife led birthing unit. I did hypnobirthing in the run up to the birth and the whole experience was really chilled. I finished up in the delivery suite as DS was helpfully coming out sideways and required forceps but it wasn’t only upstairs on a trolley so no big deal. I’ll do midwife led again this time if I can.

Oh and I can THOROUGHLY recommend hypnobirthing. I’m not normally into natural remedies or things like that but the mindset you are in is incredible and it’s so relaxing. I’d tied myself up in knots about the birth before I did the classes but I can honestly say that it was a lifesaver and would recommend it to anyone. I digress.....

Please excuse the moan ladies, but I’ve had a poor run of luck the last few days and feeling a bit sorry for myself!
Nothing pregnancy related luckily, but I somehow got an infected hair folicle that turned into a BOIL (eewww 🤢), which then in turn led to an infection spreading all down my arm- a tracking infection apparently? So despite my reluctance I was told I had to take antibiotics, which they promise me are pregnancy friendly. The arm is starting to look better thankfully, but in exchange the antibiotics have given me thrush! I am such a treat right now! I’m wondering if being pregnant is lowering my immune system or something?

@SuperSharpShooter82 I am sorry to hear that darling. Thinking of you 🌺

@puravida31Ouch, that sounds unpleasant on so many levels. I hope you heal quickly on all fronts! You're spot on though, pregnancy does suppress your immune system (baby is effectively a foreign body still, so this prevents it being attacked). I think it's why things like listeria, flu etc become more of a risk because you're less likely to fight them off as you normally would.

I'm super excited that I managed a trip into town for the first time since the sickness got really bad! Knackered now, but I almost did normal human things... Grin

Thank you @wordsmithereens ‘unpleasant on so many levels’ sums it up well! Hopefully on the mend now. I was getting myself worried that the arm infection thing could harm the baby, but they assure me it won’t as it’s localised - still makes me worry though!

Congratulations on achieving normal human things, sounds like a triumph to me!

@murphyrocks how did the scan go? And the rat situation?!?

Report
Murphyrocks · 25/07/2018 19:00

@puravida31 that sounds rubbish, so sorry you're having a tough time of it. Buy yes pregnancy suppresses your immune system to stop your body attacking the baby, also the reason we have to be more careful with food because we're more susceptible to food-borne bacteria too. So thrush, while unpleasant, is probably to be expected! I had it a few times during first pregnancy.

@hamandpease please don't worry, most commercial tonic water doesn't have quinine in it anymore anyway, do check the label on what you've got but unless it's a proper posh/brewed thing you should be fine.

Aaaand in my news meet our little bean! All looks perfect, great heartbeat and actually measuring a few days ahead now after being 5-6 days behind last week so EDD adjusted to 4th March although could change again at dating scan. Blob on the left is baby, yolk sac on the right. So relieved! Amazed how bad the picture is actually as it looked like a proper little baby silhouette at the clinic! But never mind.

Not sure what's happening on the rat tbh but I'm caring less now I know my little chicken is thriving 😁

Hi, are these private scans at 8 weeks or are they just early for other reasons ?

Report
Wineandchoccy · 25/07/2018 19:45

Newbie2703 I think most people are going to private clinics for reassurance.
I had one last week at 8 weeks at a private clinic I paid £40.

@Murphyrocks it does look slightly baby shaped! Glad all was ok and the measurements have caught up.

@Newbie2703 yes it was a private scan, I drove myself mad worrying in the lead up to the dating scan last time so decided it was worth forking out this time!

@wordsmithereens yes dh and I are delighted, nice to have the reassurance.

@mostimproved it actually looked much more baby shaped on the screen, not sure they took the best picture, but not too worried. I saw it and that's the main thing!
