Stroop waffle?! Yes please!

I'm 30
First baby, due 3rd March
South west.

Graduated from nausea to sickness yesterday- brushing my teeth seems to have triggered the vom both mornings! Not nice but at least I'm in the right place I suppose, no legging it to the loo required... it also does seem to relieve the nausea temporarily which is welcome!

Ack. So I've just been to the doctor and sobbed my heart out (I never cry - hormones!) as the morning sickness and fainting episodes are getting worse. She's signed me off work for a week and booked an early scan on Friday. Said she's not too worried but wants to check all is OK. Feeling a bit sorry for myself 😢

Ooooh @ladycarlotta your snacks sound delicious. Apart from the dates. Last pregnancy I read a synopsis of a study that eating 6 medjool dates a day for the 4 weeks before birth resulted in a shorter active stage of labour. I religiously ate 6 dates a day from 34 weeks on. That’s equivalent to an extra chocolate bar a day (note the extra 😫🙈) I was forcing them down by the end. I can never eat another date again! And I didn’t have a short labour either, but I think I’ll leave that story for another day... 😬

@peonylover22 my god that's a lot of dates. tbh I usually sub with fresh figs or go without, they are definitely not something I feel the need to eat very often.

oh @murphyrocks I'm sorry you're having such a crap time. Soak up your time off and I hope it starts to ease/you find solutions soon.

@Baby160P just tagging you in case you want to take a look.

Oh @Murphyrocks! You poor thing! try and look on the bright side - you get to see your bean in two days!! Grin

Report
Murphyrocks · 11/07/2018 09:53

@SuperSharpShooter82 I hope so! I'm only just 6 weeks so they may well not see anything yet, in which case they'll probably bring me back in another week or two.

Thanks for all the well wishes guys. Going to curl up on the couch with a blanket and binge watch crap TV!

Report
SuperSharpShooter82 · 11/07/2018 10:00

@Murphyrocks last PG they saw a heartbeat when I was just over five weeks so it IS possible! That was an internal though. I think even seeing everything in place would be good! Don't you have a scan booked for 8 weeks too?

Jealous of the TV binge! I am eating my way through this morning to keep the nausea at bay and then leaving at 1 for my booking in appointment!

I think it's got nothing to do with being pregnant and everything to do with being a pig, but can I blame pregnancy for the fact I've already eaten both breakfast and lunch today?! Shock

Just waiting for a call back to book in to see OBS/GYN about Lumpy - they seem to be hurrying about it all and that's making me nervous! They were calling to book me at the hospital I really don't want to go to for all of this (I spent so much of last early summer there visiting my mum after her hip replacement - she didn't recover well, and then later in the summer she had a major stroke and passed away there). I'd asked my GP via reception to not refer me to there but the referral had already been made before I thought to mention my preference.

Report
ladycarlotta · 11/07/2018 10:34

oh, @RachaelT that's so hard. I'm sorry you lost your mum, and going back there can't be nice at all, esp when Lumpy's involved. Hugs to you.

@crazyhorseylady blame pregnancy for EVERYTHING!

Report
Murphyrocks · 11/07/2018 10:42

@RachaelT sorry about the hospital I know how these things can trigger. Fx you can replace with some better memories! I'm sure they're just being conservative, if they were really worried sure they would've referred you immediately.

@crazyhorseylady I'm so jealous, having to force down any food at all and I'm usually such a foodie!

@SuperSharpShooter82 yes I've booked a private scan for 8 weeks but I guess if I see the heartbeat on Friday I may cancel that one. Good luck with the booking in! Mine is a week today and they said they'll get me some anti-emetics then if it doesn't get better.

RachaelT · 11/07/2018 10:47

Thanks @ladycalotta I went to that hospital last week for USS and it felt tough - and I'd guess as hormones kick in it would only get worse.

Report
SuperSharpShooter82 · 11/07/2018 10:55

@RachaelT that sounds really tough. Can you make sure your DH or friend/family member is with you who can support you?

I am eating ALL the food! But it must be plain/carbs. So far today I have had a croissant, a yogurt and am now eating some mixed nuts. My colleagues must think I am a pig!

Report
RachaelT · 11/07/2018 11:01

@SuperSharpShooter82 my DH has only started his new job 10 days ago so can't really take time off. If there referrals are made to my preferred hospital my MIL lives en-route so I'm sure she'll come to support me (she's the only other person who knows about MiniT).

My taste buds need flavour - like beefy crisps and Thai curry, but I could easily graze all day and night long

On another topic completely...

Is anyone else worried about living on DH/DP income plus £145 weekly SMP? I currently earn slightly more than DH and returning to work after 6 weeks on 3 days is the only way I can see things working but that would need free childcare on 2 of those days (DH would be lone parent on one), am I missing something as I thought we weren't the lowest paid out there - how do those on National Minimum Wage cope?

Report
SuperSharpShooter82 · 11/07/2018 11:08

Do you not get a maternity leave package @RachaelT? Or is it just forn six weeks?

Report
RachaelT · 11/07/2018 11:16

As far as I’m aware my company only has statutory pay. So 90% of income for first 6 weeks (which is fine) then £145/week thereafter for another 33 weeks. Due to DHs new job I doubt we’d qualify for SPL and so after 39 weeks it’d be unpaid leave.

Work’s handbook states to request maternity/paternity details so will just have to wait until I’m announcing to find out if it’s different.

Oh @Murphyrocks that's awful! Rest up and take care of yourself.

@RachaelT do you only get six weeks full pay then down to SMP? I think I get about six months before that kicks in (although they're not all at full pay!) and last time I found that we spent less than we thought we would and the money eked itself out for longer than we'd planned.

MistakenHoliday · 11/07/2018 11:19

@RachaelT sorry, cross post!

Report
SuperSharpShooter82 · 11/07/2018 11:22

Oh that's rubbish! What industry do you work in? Can you talk to some confidentially in HR to clarify your options?

I will say that six weeks is a very short time in your baby's life, they will be very much a newborn still and you may find it really hard to go back so soon (even if three days a week) especially if you are planning to breastfeed. I would really recommend trying to save now so you can take more time off, if that is possible, although I understand it may not be. Also think most nurseries/childminders only take babies from 3 months? I am not sure how the free childcare works at such a young age, I know you will get free hours when they are two if you qualify.
