Hello all! I got my BFP this morning at 10dpo and am apparently due 1st March with my third baby. Now feeling that familiar paranoia about what might go wrong, but hopeful all will be well. Is anyone else due in March yet? 😬

@RachaelT

"I heard we should avoid pre-prepared [salads] due to chance of bacteria from not being thoroughly cleaned)"

Oh I had no idea... oh bugger! I eat so many of them!!!

cresentmooned · 03/07/2018 20:11

Can I hop on? Just got my bfp this evening 12dpo. I had hyperemesis the first time but obviously the memory has faded. I knew I was pregnant I started wanting trifle yesterday Grin not sure if that was just in my head.......

nervousnelly8 · 03/07/2018 20:29

Phew. Thanks @wineandchoccy and @wildflower2018 - I feel much better! Although the 3 day labour sounds horrific...

Welcome @cresentmooned congratulations!

Murphyrocks · 03/07/2018 20:33

@nervousnelly8 (hoping I'm using the right name!) I've had something similar, lots of nausea and exhaustion a few days after my bfp but feeling better now - slightly disconcerting but my hcg is going up and bbt staying high so assuming all is well! First time around symptoms really started to kick in between 5 and 6 weeks, they were quite random before that. Try not to worry but I know it's hard!

@RachaelT how do you feel about an omelette? Nice and quick to whip up, eggs are ridiculously good when pg and you can add lots more good stuff like spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, cheese etc if you feel up to it? Can be eaten hot or cold too if you want to come back to it later? I do them a lot for my DS.

Sorry you're feeling rough @Wineandchoccy, after feeling quite smug about sleeping so well I had a rubbish night last night which always makes me feel crap too so hoping for a decent one tonight.

@peonylover22 welcome to the group!

Sarahandduckarehigh · 03/07/2018 20:55

@WildFlower2018

Some of the things we're told not to do have more basis in evidence than others. The salad thing is about the risk of toxoplasmosis - the same as with cat litter. I've attached screenshots from the book "expecting better" which I recommended upthread. Hope they're readable. Anyway, the upshot is that salad and veg are fine as long as you wash them thoroughly. So just run your prepackaged salad through some water in a colander and you're grand. Smile

Eep! This thread moves fast! Congrats and welcome to the newbies!

@Murphyrocks sorry I did bury my stats a bit:

Age: 30
First child
5+2 today with EDD of 3rd March
Hailing from the SW

(@ladycarlotta big up the Bristol contingent! I'm actually closer to the RUH in Bath these days so likely to pick their maternity services, although I've heard good things about Southmead if that's where you're thinking of?)

Thanks all for the exercise advice too (@nervousnelly8 @RedRobin7 @Emmafh3 and @peonylover22!) I have been taking it slower and came to a stop before my running bud last outing. Think this will be the way for a while. I told my boss this afternoon and she told me she got free swimming with the maternity card?! A little perk I hadn't heard of before!

I'm starting to worry about not feeling nauseous. Who knew that was a thing?!

ladycarlotta · 03/07/2018 21:24

@velcro88 lovely stuff. At the moment we are up the road from St Michael's but there's a strong chance we will move closer to Southmead before March (YES, we are planning to buy a house and have a baby in very quick succession. There's no way this could go wrong), but they said it would be easy to switch later. For now, St M's is more convenient for scans etc.

I'm pretty chuffed about the free swimming thing tbh. I don't know if it's a countrywide thing - the midwives I saw the other say seemed to suggest it was to do with local council - but it's brilliant. I'm going to come out of this pregnancy a proper Rebecca Adlington.

Murphyrocks · 03/07/2018 21:35

Sorry and hi/welcome to @crescentmooned, missed your message sorry!

Apologies if I missed your stats too @Velcro88! Anyone else finding messages randomly popping up through the MN thread that weren't there when you read through initially?! Or am I just getting early baby brain?!

RachaelT · 03/07/2018 21:38

@ladycarlotta I've just had a look to see if my local council (Kirklees in West Yorkshire) offer free swimming and they only offer 10 sessions per person for "pregnant tums and new mums" guess it's better than nothing though!

HidCat · 03/07/2018 22:14

@RedRobin7 tell your trainer definitely. They're obliged to keep confidentiality but will need to adapt your training. I've been really lazy the last year so just walking for me lol.

@puravida31 a nap in this humidity is exactly what I need, haven't managed it yet mind.

In the past we've told immediate family in the first couple of weeks. Hubby cautious this time after our MC but I needed the support and don't want to not have that. Having you guys is a massive relief though.

@nervousnelly8 in my first pregnancy my symptoms disappeared after a week. Had such an easy pregnancy too!

Murphyrocks · 03/07/2018 22:25

Good to know @RachaelT, will have to look up whether they do that in Leeds too!

Wineandchoccy · 03/07/2018 22:27

I can definitely recommend aqua natal if you can find a class near you it was my hour of peace every week and dd loved it she always kicked away which was lovely only problem it was held at a local hotel pool with the tiniest changing rooms which was fun when 12 heavily pregnant were trying to get changed.

ladycarlotta · 03/07/2018 22:37

congrats @crescentmooned! I hope your pregnancy has a positive trifle:puke ratio. If you've had HG once, are you doomed to it forever or is it a toss-up with each pregnancy?

@RachaelT boo! Ten's nothing really! I think we get a card that you can flash every time you swim.

@Emmafh3 I know my mum had miscarriages before and after us kids, and her sister also lost a pregnancy quite late - it is something we talk about as a family, and I don't think they'd be weird about it, but it's just that for my own sake I want to manage this weight of expectation! and to be fair, also worry - she's under a lot of stress at the moment for one reason and another, and spends a lot of time caring for other people. I just want to give her uncomplicated good news.

cresentmooned · 03/07/2018 22:50

@ladycarlotta thanks! I invisage a great deal of trifle consumption. I think you are more likely to get HG if you have had it once before, but my situation is different this time and have more support around me. Plus you get the best present at the end.....Can’t see me saying this in a few weeksWink but positive thoughts! Congrats everyoneSmile

thefirsttimer · 03/07/2018 23:11

Ahh @nervousnelly8 you didn't have to name change! I feel bad now 🙈 if it's an consolation your new name is much better than mine .

Welcome @peonylover22 and @cresentmooned - congratulations!

I'm another one who didn't realise that about preprepared salads, I actually had one for tea tonight!

sunlighthouse · 04/07/2018 05:48

I've told a few people already including my best friend and parents, and I'm only 4+1!

My first pregnancy ended in early miscarriage at 6 weeks and until then I'd keep it totally secret but found I was so upset I wanted to tell close friends for support. So now I take the approach that if its someone I'd tell about a miscarriage, I tell them about a pregnancy.

RachaelT · 04/07/2018 06:43

Does anyone have a "dad to be" app/forum they can recommend?

I'm thinking of trying to get my hubby to download one as I don't think he quite gets it - he's been telling me to see the doctor as my nausea isn't right/too early/too much 🤣... it's not I know it's just normal for me in this pregnancy (it's bouts of nausea throughout the day, worse when I smell food or after eating and have nearly been sick whilst burping twice over the last 2 days).

He loves me so much he (in his words) "hating seeing me like this" which in turn makes me not want to tell him as I can see that not being able to do anything is frustrating and upsetting him.

HidCat · 04/07/2018 07:19

@cresentmooned hoping the HG stays away for you.

Another pre-packed salad eater here. Will make sure I wash them!

@RachaelT it's lovely that your OH is so concerned. I don't know of any as such but I have a vague memory of something called Music, Football and Fatherhood which is aimed at Dads.

nervousnelly8 · 04/07/2018 08:00

Thanks @murphyrocks and @hidcats! It makes me feel so much better hearing that I'm not the only one. I told my mom right away about BFP and she keeps saying it's all perfectly normal, but something about hearing it from others going through the same is so much more reassuring!

@thefirsttimer don't be silly, I don't mind at all, defo makes sense as our names were so similar! Especially with baby brain imminent! Maybe at some point during the pregnancy I'll be able to switch from nervous nelly to excited elly. I hope so!

@RachaelT My DH is constantly on the 'dad' section of Reddit but I have no idea how useful it is. I can however recommend 'the expectant dad's handbook' by Dean Beaumont. DH has been glued to it since BFP and is coming out with all sorts of 'helpful' suggestions for birth plans, ways to ease symptoms etc. I've read a little of it over his shoulder and it looks great. I have had to shoot down the talk on labour/birth though... I am nowhere near ready to think about that!

Sarahandduckarehigh · 04/07/2018 08:14

Am freaking out a bit.

My toddler woke at 5am and came in with us. After a feed he decides to throw himself at me and lands squarely on my belly. Which hurt, obviously, and then I had little stabbing pains for about 30 mins afterwards. I am trying to ctfd - I know they're well cushioned in there and I have more padding than most- but I am still freaking out and am on knicker watch just in case. Arrrgggh. Sad

ladycarlotta · 04/07/2018 08:26

Oh no, @sarahandduckarehigh that's so worrying! I'm sure it'll be ok - as you say they're well padded in there - but what a stress.

I've woken up this morning with stomach pains, and am terrified that now I've told DP's parents, it's all.going to go wrong. Rationally, I've got a slightly upset stomach and I think the pain is more to do with that, but I don't relish having to be 'on' all day (DP is at work so I'm in charge of amusing his folks) with this pain and anxiety.

RachaelT · 04/07/2018 08:36

Thanks @nervousnelly8 - that book sounds good I might order one for him - he's confessed he's scared s**tless (it's first time for us both) and a bit of knowledge might help.

Murphyrocks · 04/07/2018 08:47

@sarahandduckarehigh I'm so sorry to hear that, but I think if you've got a sticky one you have to damage the mother really quite significantly to damage the baby, they're resilient little things, and I doubt your ds was that forceful! Do try not to worry but I know that easier said than done.

Hope all is well with you too @ladycarlotta.

@RachaelT one of my pregnancy apps, Nurture, is quite good and you can invite your partner to join your account too so gets the same info and can contribute to it? Not really my DH's thing, he's already been there and done it twice, but might be nice for yours?

hamandpease · 04/07/2018 08:57

Hi all, sorry I've been quiet

I've had a few incredibly stressful days which have involved a huge amount of crying which I'm really angry at myself about as I'm worried it will hurt the baby

This morning have woken up with boob pain gone and an upset tummy so very worried now Sad

Murphyrocks · 04/07/2018 10:12

So sorry to hear that @hamandpease, hope all's OK, if you need to vent I'm happy to listen either here or on a pm. Do remember though that yes stress to the levels of maybe being in a war zone or something could affect the baby, but most day to day stresses of first world life won't impact anything. Not to diminish whatever you're going through, just to hopefully reassure it shouldn't cause your bean any problems.
