Hello all! I got my BFP this morning at 10dpo and am apparently due 1st March with my third baby. Now feeling that familiar paranoia about what might go wrong, but hopeful all will be well. Is anyone else due in March yet? 😬

@frenchgal welcome, you aren't too far from me in London!

@firsttimenerves I think you can choose any hospital you like as long as it's not too far away, and the midwife appointments are not necessarily at the hospital itself but somewhere in the area. IMHO the antenatal class thing isn't a dealbreaker, it's much more important to pick the place where you think you'll have the best birth experience and postnatal aftercare. I don't really know anyone who has made friends in the hospital antenatal classes as they just give you the facts and gory details about birth and that's it, whereas NCT is more about making friends with other parents. But that is just my experience/opinion so definitely ask the GP!

I've got a work barbecue this evening and my team are all very into their booze - I would normally be taking full advantage of a free bar so it's going to be tough to make excuses, and I will feel super jealous of their ice cold beers! At least we do have a few staff who don't drink anyway so there should be a couple of nice non-alcoholic options there. If only they did non-alcoholic aperol spritz!

Murphyrocks · 29/06/2018 17:13

@firstimenerves and @RedRobin7 I agree with @mostimproved, I did go to a birth class at the hospital but really met parent friends through NCT classes (not connected with hospital and cost around £200) and from baby classes and groups when ds was born. Imho I'd suggest picking whatever hospital you're most comfortable with for the birth as long as it's not too far - I've got a choice of about 5 where I am although very glad I chose LGI which is the Yorkshire's children's hospital so when ds was taken to ICU we just had to go down the hall, rather than be helicoptered in as some other parents I key there had!.
Good luck for the work bbq too!

firsttimenerves · 29/06/2018 17:19

@RedRobin7 thank you - super helpful! I have heard that Frimley has a very good reputation for maternity so will do some more research before my first appointment! MN definitely seems like a good way to meet people, once past 12 weeks- please do keep me in mind if you do decide on a meet up!

@mostimproved great to get opinions, thank you! I am going to be going back to work pretty soon after the hopeful future birth (Not counting chickens!) - DH has conveniently decided on a career change and will be going back to Uni to become a teacher. So I'm a little worried about being able to meet people!

The work BBQ sounds like fun but so many challenges! Especially on a lovely sunny day! Hopefully others will be drinking enough that they don't give your drink a second thought!

Wineandchoccy · 29/06/2018 17:27

I went on a works trip away at 10 weeks pregnant and nobody guessed I just pretended to sip drinks and as everyone else got drunk they seemed to not notice what I was drinking

Shampooeeee · 29/06/2018 17:31

Ooh Murphy we are practically stats twins!

Red I found last time that Yorkshire tea decaf was horrible but PG tips was ok. Much as it pains me to say it, being from Yorkshire! Maybe try another brand.

Sorry to hear about your DB firsttimenerves I think there is a new movement to let women have the birth they want so I assume that means a free choice of hospital.

Not drinking is always a challenge. First time around I used the hungover excuse occasionally but I don’t think that will wash now that I have a toddler. I went for dinner with friends the other night and one of them noticed I wasn’t drinking at all and asked me outright afterwards. I told her and I also voluntarily told another friend yesterday. I told them both about the ups and downs though. DH has told his boss, who was very supportive when we had a MC.

Is anyone else as impatient as me? It seems so long to wait until my scan at 8 weeks.

RedRobin7 · 29/06/2018 17:37

@firsttimenerves Interesting to know your DH wants to become a teacher. Mine has been moaning about his career for years and the one thing he wants to do is become a teacher but keeps making out that having a baby won't allow him to do that. I'm actually the one encouraging him to go for it. I don't think he will though.

@Murphyrocks @mostimproved thanks for the advice! I'm not sure I would pay £200 for the NCT but plenty of time to think about it!

puravida31 · 29/06/2018 17:39

Hi folks this seems like the place for March-ers! I’ll come and join from the other thread too please :) I’ve just turned 31 and this is baby number 1, EDD 3rd March. I’ve seen the doctor this week which makes it feel a bit more real! I’m currently drinking diet lemonade out of a wine glass to try and trick myself, it’s not really working...!

ladycarlotta · 29/06/2018 17:41

I got through to the midwife today - I'm going to an early pregnancy class (?) on Monday morning but I don't book in with them til early August, when I'll be ten weeks. She didn't seem worried about my previous MCs but I'd like to have a scan earlier nevertheless. Is that something I can sort out privately?

@shampooeeee I am VERY impatient! Having no choice but to wait it out is what makes it worse - I wish there were things I could do in the meantime to know I was helping.

firsttimenerves · 29/06/2018 17:59

@Shampooeeee I am also feeling v impatient but didn't even know you could do a scan at 8 weeks until I started reading on here! Interesting that your DH has told his boss... that's one I've been struggling with, decided I'm going to try to wait to as close to 12 weeks as possible.

@RedRobin7 I think it's hard for partners when they feel they need to 'provide'. Teaching is never going to be super well paid, but my DH got his head around it with my encouragement that I would rather him be happy and fulfilled, not hating his job. And then there's the money saved on childcare during holidays! And the school fee reduction if it's private school teaching! We shall see, but he's excited I think.

TheWanderlust · 29/06/2018 18:17

Hi all. Got my BFP on Wednesday Grin Due on 5th March.... nervous first timer from Surrey!

frenchgal · 29/06/2018 18:17

@mostimproved where are you ? Have you chosen your hospital ? I am going to UCLH. We should go for a (non alcoholic alas) drink !

firsttimenerves · 29/06/2018 18:24

@TheWanderlust welcome! I am also a nervous first timer from Surrey!

TheWanderlust · 29/06/2018 18:29

Congratulations @firsttimenerves ... I saw you mention Frimley Hosp. in an above post.... will be my local hospital too - hoping it’s a good one. I’m new to the area and still very much finding my feet x

RedRobin7 · 29/06/2018 19:17

@TheWanderlust Welcome! I highly rate Frimley - they've got a lovely birthing centre which my SIL used and I hope to use! It just feels so much nicer and cleaner than my local hospital (Royal Berks).

TheWanderlust · 29/06/2018 19:20

Thankyou @RedRobin7 - Really hoping for a great experience. Rumours of St. Peter's (Chertsey) petrified me when that was my local hospital... luckily never had to use it though. 😅

frankiefumbles · 29/06/2018 20:02

I can't believe you lot are all that far on. I rang the GP and they told me I should call back in a fortnight to book an appointment with a midwife for when I'm about 10wks. The midwife appointments don't come up on the diary sooner than that. Down here we only have the one hospital so I don't really get a choice!

TheWanderlust · 29/06/2018 20:25

@frankiefumbles ... I have only booked to see my GP on Wednesday and no idea what to expect as I'm new to the area. It seems each NHS trust is very different. X

Shampooeeee · 29/06/2018 20:54

Glad it’s not just me. The first half of pregnancy seems to be all about waiting.
DH’s boss is pretty good firsttimenerves, he’s experienced mc first hand so he knows how fragile pregnancy can be.
Whoever was talking about alternating between starving and not hungry, I’m experiencing that now. I’m not interested in food in the morning but ravenous in the afternoon and evening. I’m staying with the in laws and they aren’t a snacky family so I’m struggling between meals!

TheWanderlust · 29/06/2018 21:04

@Shampooeeee I've had a few days of it, food is all or nothing right now... my problem is it all comes and goes so I literally can't plan when to have a main meal because by the time it's ready I don't want it 😫

mostimproved · 29/06/2018 21:33

@frenchgal I'm in Stoke Newington and have chosen UCLH too! We might be moving out of London next year but I'm around for the time being. I had my last baby at Chelsea & Westminster but UCLH is more convenient for appointments as it's close to mine and DPs work, and closer to where we live now. Have you got your first appointment booked in yet? Mines on 23rd July, feels like ages away! Yes we could do a London meetup Smile

frankiefumbles · 29/06/2018 22:55

@TheWanderlust exactly the same. My hubby is doing very well out of my cooking/lack of appetite and HE is eating for two!!

The only way I seem to be able to manage it is cook the food and go back to it an hour or so later when I eventually fancy it again and reheat in the micro. It's funny because I do really fancy it when I start cooking but definitely go off it at some point during!

TheWanderlust · 29/06/2018 22:59

@frankiefumbles it's a nightmare. I've become a picker, which I've never really been. Always been a massive foody up too now! Fingers crossed it gets better soon and I can go back to enjoying meals again!

KneesupGaston · 30/06/2018 00:54

Hi, hope you don't mind if I join. Just got my positive 1-2 weeks on a digi today.

MN name: KneesupGaston
Age: 32
Location: Northern Ireland
Number of children or 1st: I have one DS 13 months
Due date: 7th March

I'm feeling a lot more relaxed with this one than my last. I was a bit manic with testing and worrying about mmc, it really ruined my pregnancy actually. Just gonna go with it this time.

Need to lose some weight before my booking in Shock

KneesupGaston · 30/06/2018 00:54

Oh and I have no symptoms at all other than this raging thirst!

frankiefumbles · 30/06/2018 06:00

Welcome @KneesupGaston! Congratulations

Has anyone else managed to pick up A COLD???!! in PEAK summer time no less??? GAHHHH!!! 😂😂😂
