Hello all! I got my BFP this morning at 10dpo and am apparently due 1st March with my third baby. Now feeling that familiar paranoia about what might go wrong, but hopeful all will be well. Is anyone else due in March yet? 😬

@redrobin7 I just got some Ugly fizzy drinks - they are just canned carbonated water with some kind of natural fruit flavours, so not a strong taste like your usual pop. We used to stock them in a shop I used to work in, and I loved them then - really refreshing - so hoping that I'll still be keen on them now.

I'm mostly drinking lemon water, and sometimes herbal teas - mint or the Clipper Snore & Peace before bed. I do still want a caffeinated tea in the morning, but I don't ever drink it in the day. I thought it would be a pain to reduce my caffeine but it really hasn't been. I'm missing wine more though! The wine shop down the road from us has started selling Portuguese vinho verde, my favourite, and I feel very vexed every time I pass it.

Murphyrocks · 29/06/2018 12:36

I'm the same as @ladycarlotta, cup of proper tea first thing then either herbal tea or fruit/herb infused sparkling water through the day (I tend to infuse my own with some combination of ginger, lemon, mint and cucumber and buy plain sparkling water, much cheaper!) which keeps me hydrated and don't really miss the caffeine. I dont worry too much about the commercial herbal teas, wouldn't drink crazy health food store ones though!

Generally don't miss drinking much as with 2 1/2 years pregnancy and breastfeeding with ds I'm used to drinking little or nothing, but I did fancy a beer with the football last night!

SuperSharpShooter82 · 29/06/2018 13:02

I've been having one proper tea in the morning and then herbal tea. I never drink coffee and always drink Pukka Vanilla Chai (which is caffeine free) so it's not been something I've noticed. As others have said I'm struggling with not drinking though - I had a couple of Becks Blue with the football last night, which I find quite good. But there is a bottle of prosecco in my fridge that is taunting me!!!

SuperSharpShooter82 · 29/06/2018 13:03

Just to clarify as that last post makes me sound like I drink loads! I don't! I think it's just this weather making me want cold wine in the sunshine!

ladycarlotta · 29/06/2018 13:17

@supersharpshooter82 ha, I know, I don't want to come across as a total lush but the sunshine is making me a bit sad about not getting to have a glass of white or an Aperol spritz or something. I wish I'd had a heads-up before my BFP, so I could indulge in a rare steak and some booze for old time's sake. I never got to say goodbye Sad

@Murphyrocks oh god, totally agree, it is cheaper and possibly nicer to just infuse water at home. But I quite like having a can to crack open every now and then. Makes me feel like I might still have a vice or two.

RedRobin7 · 29/06/2018 13:53

Thanks for the tips ladies! I like the idea of infusing sparkling water. I'll give that a go. If you're all having one caffeinated drink in the morning then I'll go back to having the one too.

I also miss alcohol in this heat. Especially since my DH keeps coming home with loads. I've asked him to look out for some non-alcoholic stuff but he will probably forget!

Murphyrocks · 29/06/2018 14:06

Depending on what you like I find the alcohol-free wheat beers or fruity kopparbergs are quite good and make you feel like you're still being a bit naughty drinking out of a beer or cider bottle! My dh has gone sober with me this time (definitely didn't last time, more like made up for my consumption in addition to his own!) which definitely makes it easier. I also looked up recent studies that showed a slight risk of mc for 2 or more caffeinated drinks per day so I'm taking it that 1 is OK!

WildFlower2018 · 29/06/2018 14:15

@RedRobin7 I'm having more than one. NHS says you can have 200mg of caffeine a day and that one average cup of tea has 75mg of caffeine. I'm personally having 2 most days and then an extra half here and there if I really need one. But I drink my tea very weak anyway, I literally dip the teabag in and take it straight out, so it would have less caffeine in than somebody who likes it builders strength.

Murphyrocks · 29/06/2018 15:06

@WildFlower2018 that's true, the study I mention didn't differentiate between tea and coffee so is open to interpretation - I drink my tea strong and also allow myself the odd coffee if I need it so err on the side of caution, particularly after 2 chemical pregnancies.

I also (controversially) had the odd alcoholic drink in 2nd and 3rd trimesters last time as they've failed (after a lot of trying!) to find anything that shows up to 2 units twice a week had any ill effects on the foetus. My NCT practitioner even recommended a glass of wine in late pregnancy! There's some risk in absolutely everything we do for the next 9 months; for me it's about finding the balance of risk you're comfortable with.

RedRobin7 · 29/06/2018 15:08

@Murphyrocks I can't drink beer any more as I'm gluten free now 😩 miss it loads but like you say at least there are non alcoholic kopparbergs! Haven't had one in ages so will ask my DH to get some.

@WildFlower2018 I'm so rubbish at knowing how much caffeine is in things so find it easier to not have them. I miss the iced lattes at work and hazelnut coffee I bought back with me from Canada a few weeks ago! The latter is just a jar of coffee granules so maybe a small spoon would be okay?

frenchgal · 29/06/2018 15:18

Hi All -
Newbie. I am due 1st March and it's my first.
I live in North London in Highgate. I am 31.
I am 5+2

I feel quite anxious about getting through the first weeks. Not feeling nausea - is this Normal ?

frankiefumbles · 29/06/2018 15:22

@firsttimenerves are you also expecting your baby to have DH genes and therefore arrive late? 😂

I'm having bottlegreen squash because it doesn't have artificial sweetener with fizzy water. Beware of some of those non alcoholic drinks because some are low alcohol not no alcohol. Personally I think it probably doesn't do harm to have one, but it would just be sad if you drank something you didn't realise had alcohol in it and then regretted it!

ladycarlotta · 29/06/2018 15:22

I've found Expecting Better to be really helpful on this. There is such varied advice on drinking/caffeine in pregnancy - I'm comfortable with 200mg of caffeine a day, so one cup of tea and one coffee, but I just don't seem to want it rn.

I don't know if this is a Mumsnet hot topic and all hell will now rain down on me, bit I also feel comfortable having the odd drink in second and third trimester (actually thinking of laying down a bottle of that vinho verde, which is usually less alcoholic than other wines anyway, for a little 12 week celebration). Drinking a glass of wine slowly is OK - likely to get dealt with by the liver - the danger is getting more in your bloodstream than your body can process (eg drinking fast or lots), in which case it'll go to the foetus. Since mums are allowed to drink a little in Europe, I'm OK with it. But I will be entirely off the sauce for the first trimester.

Wineandchoccy · 29/06/2018 15:34

Bavaria 0% is OK from what I remember but I tend to not drink a lot now a active 3 year old and a fuzzy head don't mix

Wineandchoccy · 29/06/2018 15:35

Welcome frenchgal

RedRobin7 · 29/06/2018 15:36

@frenchgal Welcome! I also have no nausea - only before my positive test. Now I just feel normal. Maybe a little more tired than usual but could also be the heat.

@frankiefumbles Very good point! I hadn't thought about that. Will be sure to check first. Thanks!

Wineandchoccy · 29/06/2018 15:37

We have just got home from holiday a 3 1/2 hour car journey in 27 degrees feeling queezy was hell Sad

frenchgal · 29/06/2018 15:38

If anyone is looking for a good pregnancy book - highly recommend the day by day pregnancy book by Dr Maggie Blott. It's a bit pricey (£25) but really exhaustive and helpful.

frenchgal · 29/06/2018 15:40

@Wineandchoccy sounds horrendous. Hope you're feeling better now

Murphyrocks · 29/06/2018 15:47

@RedRobin7 fair enough on gluten free, kopparbergs it is then! And yes I'd say a small coffee would be absolutely fine personally.

Hi @frenchgal, yes no nausea is totally normal - it's a common symptom but not everyone gets it no need to worry!

Thanks @ladycarlotta re Expecting Better, I'll check that out, absolutely want to do the right things for pg but also don't want to be told not to do things 'just in case' without any scientific research to back it up! Would rather look at the evidence and make my own decisions based on that. But yes increased risk of mc with alcohol in first trimester so t total for the next 2 months!

Sorry to hear that @Wineandchoccy, I had travel sickness as a child which I found reared it's ugly head again during pregnancy! Forgot how miserable it is...

Yes good call @frankiefumbles, will be sure to check!

firsttimenerves · 29/06/2018 15:59

I am migrating over from the other thread too, thank you @frankiefumbles

I have some catching up to do on who everyone else is! Since I am 'working from home' currently, I will do that later and just introduce myself:

firsttimenerves (because I am pretty nervous!)
Age 28
Surrey (but also spend a lot of time in Cambridge)
1st child
EDD: March 9th

RedRobin7 · 29/06/2018 16:08

@firsttimenerves I'm working from home today too... definitely not spending too much time on MN!

You can't be too far from me then - I'm in Berkshire. My chosen hospital is Frimley - is that the same for you? They took great care of me earlier this year so I have no doubts about choosing that hospital this time around. My local hospital is closer but the traffic there is horrendous so the back roads to Frimley are easier!

Murphyrocks · 29/06/2018 16:13

Haha me too @firstimenerves and @RedRobin7 re working from home! Welcome!

firsttimenerves · 29/06/2018 16:25

@RedRobin7 Very close! Frimley is not far from me. My local hospital is St Peter's (Chertsey) but I would rather not go there as it holds bad memories - DB passed away after several days treatment there following a sudden and undiagnosed cardiac episode in 2009.

I don't know how much choice we get in where we can have our appointments? I was thinking of asking for the Royal Surrey in Guildford. If you ask for your non-local hospital, does that mean that it's harder to meet other mums local to you, because they put you in different ante-natal classes? Hopefully the GP will be informative and understanding of these types of concerns!

RedRobin7 · 29/06/2018 16:34

@firsttimenerves So sorry to hear your DB passed away. It's understandable why you feel it may be difficult to return to that hospital and I think you should ask if you have options.

My SIL had a baby a year ago and they live down the road so I found out through her what the options were and made my decision. Basically when I went for my booking in appointment the first time the community midwife asked me which hospital I wanted to go to. The only issue with that was that she worked for the other hospital so wasn't allowed to take my bloods so she did everything but that. Then I just went to another local place to see the Frimley midwife to do the bloods. I'm not sure about antenatal classes - I think you have to pay for them these days. No idea! Maybe someone with a DC already can fill us in. I know I've read the only way to meet people these days is to pay for the NCT membership or join baby classes once the baby has arrived.

On a previous board I found two people who were local to me and we were planning to meet up but it didn't work out for me in the end but I do think MN is also a nice way to meet people. Especially if we all join a secret Facebook group once the 12 week scans have taken place. I just think it's bad luck before then.
