Hellooooo !!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
conkertree · 29/05/2007 12:11

can join you with the aching hips - but i mostly get them from about 5am onwards rather than when i first go to bed. turning over does help, but it comes back more and mroe quickly as time goes on. sometimes a pillow between the legs helps too.

sounds like your holiday was fab hersetta.

itchyncsratchy · 29/05/2007 12:11

Hi evryone!
bananabump - I know what you mean about sleeping, I try to lie bump on soft pillow and another under top leg but babe starts wriggling and i'm worried I'm squashing her! Ha and poor dp is ready to give up on other bedtime activity, I try to get into it but it's such a palava, we just keep trying to make the effort!!
Glad you had a lovely holiday hersetta.
Has anyone bought a Britax Vigour?

Babylovesmuffins · 29/05/2007 12:24

Hi all
Welsome back Hersetta! Did you not bring some sunshine back with you??

Anyone else had their 28-week appointment yet? I've got mine in just over an hour. Not looking forward to it - think it involves lots of blood being taken again...

Oh and I can relate to all those with sore hips etc - sleeping is agony at the moment. I start off ok but wake early and have to turn over (which is a major operation) - think tortoise stuck on back...

Let me know about this 28-week appointment - feeling quite nervous!!

bananabump · 29/05/2007 12:26

I had mine not so long ago, it was just a blood test, urine sample, test blood pressure, measure the height of fundus etc, same old same old!

They don't take any more blood than usual, as far as I could tell, and I'm the biggest wimp on earth when it somes to needles. Don't worry!

GillL · 29/05/2007 12:44

Hello. Hope everyone had a good weekend despite the weather. We still managed to get out yesterday. We dressed up warm and took dd to a farm. It had a great covered area with sheep, cows, goats etc so we didn't really have to venture outside much.

I spent the last 2 days clearing up wee and poo (sorry if TMI) after I started potty training dd. It's not much fun but we did have some success. I was in the kitchen and she ran in to me holding the potty saying 'look mummy!!'. It sounds silly but it made my day and I felt great that she was so proud of herself that she wanted to show me. Fortunately mum gets to take over for the rest of the week while I'm at work.

I'm lucky I've not had much trouble sleeping or getting to sleep. I'm normally so tired when I go to bed that I fall asleep within a few minutes of laying down. I wake up to go to the loo at least once but I can generally get straight back to sleep. I'm sure it won't be long before I start suffering.

Babylovesmuffins - I've got my 28 week appointment on Thursday with a consultant. They'll be taking blood and checking the usual. I have to have an extra bottle of blood taken for my thyroid level check. Like banana I'm really bad with needles but it's never as bad as I expect and I always come out wondering what I was worrying about.

Babylovesmuffins · 29/05/2007 12:49

I know... I'm a wimp! I'll be ok afterwards, it's just I've got very thin veins and they can never find one. the last time my arm was bruised for ages!!!

I WILL be able to cope with childbirth though...

Hersetta · 29/05/2007 12:55

Hi all,

Nice to be back (online at least). Got back home at 9pm last night after 19 hrs of travelling so feeling pretty tired today and am just taking my time going through my emails, catching up on gossip - will settle back to real work tomorrow I think.

I have my 28w appt next Thursday - will try and arrange my GTT for then as well so I can get it all out of the way with. Have to go for my Andi D treatment as well but they only do that in the afternoon for some reason !

Baby is very active after food it appears. A couple of days on holiday I tried to have a nap after lunch only to discover that the baby wanted to party and my tummy was jigging around like a mad thing - she dd the same on the plane home yesterday as well. Airline were very good though and gave DH and I four seats between us on 2 of our flights. No upgrade though - too much to hope I guess!

DH has got a reward for being an angel on holiday - my firm have invited us both as guests to be wined and dined at Wembley on Friday to watch England vs brazil (our firm are sponsors of the FA and the England team). He is very chuffed as he really wanted to go but couldn't get tickets.

conkertree · 29/05/2007 13:50

sorry to come back to purchasing (incase the rest of you are bored with it) but just wondered where you are buying your cots/cot beds from.

we are getting a eco crib for 0-3 months from mothercare, and then we have a moses basket that can be used after that, but are a bit clueless for the actual cot/cot bed. any tips on what you are looking for would be gratefully received. or is it basically just a choice on what you think looks nice?

tokentotty · 29/05/2007 13:55

Hey all !!

Welcome back H - sounds like a blissful holiday so am really, really pleased for you. Especially about DH being able to feel baby etc.
Conkertree - check this site out, a friend sent it to me and it seems really, really cheap. Those 5 piece sets with free rocking chair for £785 ?? Someone care to enlighten me if this isn't good value though..www.nursery-rooms.co.uk/Nursery-furniture.shtml

Welcome back Hersetta- gald you had a fab holiday.
We were in Wales- pi**ed down on Sunday, like everywhere I think. Yesterday was typically welsh- rain one minute and sunburn the next.
Luckily don't seem to have the leaking boobs or back pain yet. It's just the constant pressure on my ribs which is driving me up the wall. Agony if sat in the car for too long etc.
After being mildly concerned about not feeling much movement in the last week or so, baby has gone into overdrive and hasn't stopped moving for about 4 days solid. I think it likes it's holidays and mini-breaks as that's def when it moves the most.
Re cots- have spent ages looking on-line. I think I'm going for John Lewis as per usual. Nice plain white and pine one. Going for a cot rather than a cot bed as there's a single bed in the room already which is staying so not loads of room.
(ps another first time baby appeared 3 weeks early at the weekend).

myweegirl · 29/05/2007 14:55

hi everyone.

i'm not long back from my first antenatal/parentcraft class (ddin't got to them when pregnant last time). it wasn't what i expected , but then i don't know what i did expect! the MW talked through the stages of labour then played us a video of a couple of births. they've stopped doing tours of the labour ward at Stirling - so i'm a bit disappointed as i was looking forward to that - was too out of it the last time to pay much attention to where or what was going on.

conkertree - don't want to worry you but my DD was too big for her moses basket at 3 months...

gillL - good luck with the potty training - we're on day 9 and so far she's been really good. only a few accidents (i've probably just jinxed it now...)

jem1969 · 29/05/2007 15:01

talking about classes- is anyone doing nct and if so, when do they start? I'll be 32 weeks when mine start- thinking this is a bit late?

kiteflying · 29/05/2007 15:03

We bought our cot on ebay for £60 - it is M&P in a lovely solid pine and barely used as it was at grandma's house for emergency use. It has three different heights, which was important for us, but doesn't have a drop down side. I thought I wanted this feature but am now glad I don't have it, as it means I don't have to worry about little fingers being caught. My boyfriend tells me it is in fact a cot bed. It does not look long enough to me but he is the man with tools so I believe him.

We are not buying a full nursery TT but those look lovely and I think quite cheap for what is included - especially as the glider is included! Lovely colour combinations as well.

We got our glider (dutaillier?) for £80 on ebay and I talked myself out of a change table (we have a cot top changer and a spare table which we will use as "baby station") Also we have a M&P moses basket for early weeks and a koala hammock for a travel cot.

I love the little stickers someone posted earlier!

kiteflying · 29/05/2007 15:04

Is Babylovesmuffins back from her appointment yet? Hope it went well.

EllieK · 29/05/2007 15:07

being really cheeky, i'm from the April ladies, have my Maternity Tens for sale if anyone is after one

conkertree · 29/05/2007 15:15

thanks for the links folks. will spend some more time looking later i think.

we werent planning to get a moses basket cause a lot of people have said they dont last all that long, but we were given one by my sil as her baby didnt really like it, so we havent lost anything if either the baby doesnt fit it, or doesnt like it.

shame about the hospital tours myweegirl - i was hoping to get one too when i go for classes - mine start on 2nd july (hope thats not too late)

itchyncsratchy · 29/05/2007 15:22

Hi all,
I'm trying to decide between carrycot/moses basket for first few months.. if carrcot is big enough to sleep in. Then into cot, just ordered a nice coconut wood four poster - for the mosquito net, copied design from a mothercare one.
Still onto the reuseable nappies.. i'll try to link to this super site super site
especially the swaddlebees as all in one and claim to be stay dry

kiteflying · 29/05/2007 15:24

2 July sounds kind of late to me conker, as you are due at the start August aren't you? Hopefully they are concise and to the point!

Does anyone think it is bizarre that my hospital does not offer a waterbirth workshop until you are 36 weeks? It seemed really late in the day to me, but DP thought it ensured they didn't unnecessarily include people that would be ruled out by late pregnancy complications anyway. I guess I have in mind that baby is actually "due" anywhere between two weeks before and two weeks after the EDD.

bananabump · 29/05/2007 15:29

I'm starting antenatal classes thursday night, I'm very excited!

myweegirl · 29/05/2007 16:01

kiteflying - i keep thinking that i've got anywhere between 7-12 weeks to go (37-42 weeks) which is quite frightening

i'm a wee bit of you all looking for and deciding what to buy for your new babies - all we need to get is new mattresses for both the moses basket and cot bed (unless it's a boy and then we will need some new clothes). there's lots of great new colours/designs of buggys etc since we bought everything a couple of years ago.

kiteflying · 29/05/2007 16:07

it is bizarre isn't it myweegirl. I feel like we only just found out we were pregnant. Probably it is partly that I got over morning sickness late and then baby did not really start moving until late either. It just seems too soon to be in the third trimester - and it really does seem to be whizzing after all!

You should buy yourself some new baby clothes to congratulate yourselves on not having to buy much of the hard core items!

jem1969 · 29/05/2007 16:12

I keep vowing I'm going to be one of those new mothers who only gets the bare minumum but I think my resolve is slipping as I get less and less inclined to work and more and more inclined to surf the web. I know I am going to end up with all sorts of stuff I never use.

conkertree · 29/05/2007 16:17

2nd july is quite late i guess kiteflying but we tried from about 12 weeks on to book nct classes all over this area and were told they were all full, then the ones nearest my home for nhs classes started on 24th may, but they are about 11am - noon and although i know you are entitled to time off to attend, i really didnt think i could afford that sort of time off work (cause would need to travel 1/2 hour each way too), so had to try and go to evening ones, and they are the only ones the nhs offered before august.

the thing that annoyed me was when i went to the babyshow in glasgow, the nct lot kept popping up to try and encourage me to sign up for a class, and i told them that i ahd tried to sign up to about 4 different ones but they were all full - and the nct girl was extremely unhelpful about it. basically said - oh well thats tough then. but i did wonder why they were thrusting leaflets at fairly far gone pregnant people when their local classes were all full.

but have bought a hypnobirthing book and cd from ebay as well, so am hoping it gives me some tips - am thinking the 2nd july one is on actual labour, and the ones after that are more the parentcraft ones which although i am a first timer, if i do miss them cause its early, i will just have to learn on the job (with a little help from purplerabbit et al).

sorry that again turned into a bit of a rant. i am really quite a cheerful person

conkertree · 29/05/2007 16:19

yup jem - i am the same - was determined to work as hard as possible to get my desk cleared asap, but by about 11.30 each day, my resolve is weakening and i am having the odd little look on websites.

myweegirl · 29/05/2007 16:25

that's a good idea kiteflying! wonder if i could add in a sling/new mobile/bouncy seat/baby leg warmers (didn't know you could get them)/ new buggy/new sleeping bags etc without DP noticiing
