Hellooooo !!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
kiteflying · 29/05/2007 16:27

I know what you mean about the NCT classes conker. We ended up turning them down, after months of waiting on the waiting list, but I did not see the point in daytime classes as DP could not come and the evening classes were SO late in the evening.
I am still rather regretting the enormous amount I have spent on the Active Birth weekend class which we go to in two weeks time as it means I cannot afford Maggie Howell's hypnobirthing classes as well (equally expensive).
How have you found the CD? I tried it for the first time on Saturday (hooray for wet weekends - knitting and self hypnosis. What a rager!) I got myself pretty much out of it, but fell asleep as soon as I was there. I think I need practice being "under" without wanting to sleep. I am trying it again today after work and if I can improve by this weekend I will get all evangelical and boring about it.
I cannot concentrate at work today at all. I would rather enjoy being pregnant.

kiteflying · 29/05/2007 16:29

sorry I crossed posts - always take too long to type....
Go for those slings myweegirl. I have two and have not the faintest how to put them on. DVD instructions are on the to do list for this week.

Augustbride · 29/05/2007 16:31

Conkertree - we have NCT classes booked for the start of July (1st, 3rd and 8th) when I will be 35/36 weeks. Tried to get on the earlier classes (beginning of May) but they were already booked up when we applied in January.
At least it will all be fresh in our minds!!

Very excited as we finished painting the Nursery yesterday , just have to assemble furniture from Ikea and choose a cot. Hoping a trip to Mothercare & Babbies'r'us at the weekend will help sort that out.

jem1969 · 29/05/2007 16:33

I've been trying the hypnobirthing CDs- fell asleep the first time but now I'm not very good at switching off and all sorts of things pop into my mind- do you have the one where you're walking along a country path and enjoying lots of water? I especially like the bit where it tells you that you are naturally drawn to healthy foods- no mention of crisps and chocolate.
Think I am tempted to buy so much rubbish for baby is that I can't buy an nice clothes for myself- the shops are full of nice little summer outfits and I just feel like Humpty Dumpty.

Babylovesmuffins · 29/05/2007 17:01

Well I look like a junkie (took mw 4 attempts to find a vein) but that's the bloods done!!

All my classes seem to be starting soon - we managed to get onto a short NCT class starting on 24th July (I'll be 36 weeks at that point). I'm also thinking of doing th hypnobirthing course which runs from 8th-29th July over 4 Sunday sessions. (DH will be sooooooo happy!!!)

The mw also runs antenatal classes and told me that they'd be happening in July.

I'm finding all these classes really expensive too Kiteflying. I bought the Natal Hypnotherapy CD's at £50 supposedly instead of Hypnobirthing but now I think I'll try anything... My yoga teacher was saying that Hypnobirthing can also help produce a calmer baby, as the actual birth is less traumatic...

conkertree · 29/05/2007 17:02

havent actually tried the cd yet - am hoping it will have arrived today cause just bought it at the weekend, so will let you know how i find it.

what kind of sling did you get kiteflying? we got a didymos and have been trying out some of the different holds- am sooo pleased with it - its so comfy (albeit with a toy rabbit in it rather than a baby) and there are so many options for positions.

conkertree · 29/05/2007 17:03

sorry crossed posts babylovesmuffins - good that its over anyway with the bloods.

kiteflying · 29/05/2007 17:19

Babylovesmuffins well done you getting all those bloods. I have to face that later this week (don't know how to get the time off work yet...) I have the same CD set you have. Like you, I had hoped that would be enough and I would do it on my own but now I really want to make sure I get it down before August. I love my active birth yoga but you know I really want the hypno to work in case I have to stay calm in the face of an intervention.

Jem, mine talks about being on a perfect beach - which is actually quite good. I am going to try rolling on my ball and pretending I am floating on waves. I do laugh at the being attracted to the right foods. I am very attracted to chocolate at the moment, so clearly that aspect of my first session just did not take.

Conker I have two different types of ring slings. One Aremican Zolo...? and one Mayan ring sling in a lovely blue and green stripe. I spent ages trying to bid/win a hugabub but in the end I just thought ohmygod with all that jersey cotton and the the baby right THERE on your chest they look so HOT for August and September (and queensland at Christmas....). I know the ring slings are meant to be harder on the back but I like that they are basically a batik sling with a ring adjuster.

jem1969 · 29/05/2007 17:30

I'm off home to try my new Davina pregancy exercise DVD.
Given up on trying to get to the yoga classes as they are on a Saturday morning and we always seem to be somewhere else. Hopefully DH will be working late so won't see me huffing and puffing around the living room floor in some fetching outfit.

loler · 29/05/2007 19:16

I wonder if calm births really do generally lead to calm babies - should start a thread! dd Was the calmest baby ever - fed 4 hourly from birth and slept through from 4 weeks. Her birth was the worst experience ever ever! DS birth was the calmest thing in the world hardly noticed him popping out but he was a very hard work baby (started sleeping through at about a year - sometimes!). I'm thinking it's just luck?

I'm treating myself/baby to a breast pump!

lovelybird · 29/05/2007 20:38

Hello all,

I haven't posted for a while as been V busy with work and home things. Have read this thread and caught up on all your news. I can't believe I'm in my 3rd trimester already-how did that happen? I've blinked and missed my 1st and 2nd. Baby is due in 10 weeks and 6 days - eek, I'm not ready at all. Still have a half decorated house and have to clear out and decorate the back bedroom and move DS into it, and buy new furniture and stuff for the baby. I'm finally recovering from the flu virus I had at easter, but it has triggered my asthma and i'm still quite wheezy and on my steroid inhaler. As i've been ill for weeks I haven't felt at all well I have decided to bring my mat leave forward and will finish work on June 21st when I'll be 32+3. I am planning to do quite a bit at home and spend some time with DS. I admire all of you that are working until closer to your due dates, I've had enough already!!
We went for a 4D scan on sat and it was fab, and wonderful to see the baby. I'm very excited about meeting him now.

conkertree · 30/05/2007 09:05

hi lovelybird - nice to see you back. i sometimes think its quite good that there are still lots of things for us all to do - would rather it was that way round than totally ready at 30 weeks and then nothing to do for 10 weeks or so, but maybe thats just me.

Bought a car seat last night on ebay - but dont worry its a new one being sold by a shop, not a used one. got the bebe confort one so think that makes our decision for us to get the loola buggy.

i did wonder about heat kiteflying, but our summers are so unpredictable (am in Scotland), so i am quite happy to get a lighter material at the time if it turns out the didymos is too hot for august. have seen lots of other companies doing similar things but with much lighter weight materials.

would be interested to hear what you think of the davina dvd jem cause i really like her non pregnancy workouts.

jem1969 · 30/05/2007 09:22

Funnily enough I didn't get round to it last night! I remembered on the way home that I had done quite a lot of walking on the beach etc at the weekend so had done my fair share of exercise and then started to do a major cupboard reorganisaion when I got home which was tiring enough. I WILL do it tonight (unless Big Brother gets in the way- have vowed not to watch it but know I will get sucked in. Have to try and watch it in secret tho as DH hates it - altho always sees to know who's who..)
I have the 'Power of 3' Davina DVD but I was just about to start doing it and got pg so never managed that either!
Welcome back lovely bird- We haven't done much either. Trying to sort out decorators at the moment and want loads done including retiling the whole bathroom. Keep putting off buying furniture for a bit so it's not delivered until it's finished but then realised don't have much time. Planning on doing the other bits and bobs when am on maternity leave- decided to leave at 35 weeks I think. (HR meeting today).
Will try and do some work today- yesterday was a total write off!

itchyncsratchy · 30/05/2007 10:46

Hi all,
conkertree- where in scotland are you? is it you or another mtb from edinburgh?
I have great news today, a friend in Edinburgh will be in Zanzibar for July and August and has offered her lovely flat for us to stay in. I can just as easily give birth there as Leeds or London, the other options I've been considering, and Edinburgh for the summer sounds lovely!
Woohoo! Quite excited I've been so stressed about this for past couple months..
So now just need to find out about hospitals...

conkertree · 30/05/2007 12:53

that sounds like a good deal itchnscratchy - i'm near stirling so dont know that much about edinburgh hospitals i'm afraid, but hopefully you'll find one you like.

jem - i know the feeling - i had big plans last night to clear out several boxes to make room for clothes etc for the baby, but didnt even get through one box. theres actually more i want to keep than i thought which is a little annoying as we dont really have room to store much.

must be more ruthless i think. ended up watching tv which was not my plan at all. oh well.

Babylovesmuffins · 30/05/2007 13:35

Hi Itchy - I'm in Edinburgh. Not sure which hospital I'm going to yet - I've got a choice between Edinburgh Royal Infirmary or St John's Hospital in Livingston but that's because we live on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Most people in Edinburgh go to the Royal Infirmary - I think it's got a pretty good reputation. I have a tour of St John's Hospital in a few week's time but ERI don't do tours! I think I'll get to see a video of ERI at my antenatal classes. Let me know if you want any more information. Hope it works out for you

Babylovesmuffins · 30/05/2007 14:07

Hi Lovelybird - glad you're starting to feel better again. Very jealous that you're finishing work soon (I really don't want to be here right now!!!!) but that will be a really nice time to do all the bits and pieces you need to do, and to relax with no work worries.

Loler - I don't know if calm birth = calm babies - it's probably just the luck of the draw! From your experience (and probably hundreds of others) it doesn't seem to make much difference. I'm willing to give anything a go however!!

Kiteflying - the bloods weren't actually too bad (once she found a vein!!) - good luck with your appointment this week (and your work HAVE to give you time off to go - BY LAW!!!!). The Natal Hypnotherapy CD's so far seem to be good but I just seem to fall asleep and then wake up when she's counting back!! I think mine asks you to imagine yourself walking along a wooded path... but it does also talk about being attracted to the right foods and enjoying exercise

jem1969 · 30/05/2007 14:10

yup- i'm on the wooded path too!

Babylovesmuffins · 30/05/2007 14:22

are you sitting with your back against the big oak tree??!!??!!

jem1969 · 30/05/2007 14:36

yes- whilst concentrating on a blade of grass and drinking lots of cool clear(I think) water to replenish my amniotic fluid (whilst simultaneously thinking about what to have for supper and whats on TV that night...

GillL · 30/05/2007 14:58

Hi all, sorry to interrupt the hypnotherapy...hope you're all calm and relaxed.

myweegirl - thanks. dd got 3 stars for doing 3 wees in the potty yesterday - definite progress. I'm quietly confident that it won't take too much longer but I'm not counting my chickens. I'm with you being envious of the others buying new stuff. We really don't need to get much other than a new cot and we won't be getting anything fancy.

jem - 32 weeks sounds about right for the classes. I think I went around the same time when pg with dd, but then mine was over 2 saturdays rather than 6 evenings. Good for you getting decorators in to do the bathroom. dh is taking a week off in July to finish ours as it's been half tiled for the last 3 years cos he couldn't be bothered to finish it. I know I'll be getting sucked in to Big Brother. I thought it was a load of rubbish the first year but I've been hooked since series 2 started.

Babylovesmuffins · 30/05/2007 15:01

Oh you have been listening closely Jem! You must know it off by heart!! I'll need to listen to it again soon... especially the bit about eating good food (having just eaten an iced Danish Pastry )

God, I'm so bored at work today. Finding it really difficult to concentrate... Anyone else like this??

Itchy - I also meant to say that August is when the Edinburgh Festival's on, so the city can get quite busy around that time - not to put you off or anything but it's just something to bear in mind when you're planning your route to hospital!!

Babylovesmuffins · 30/05/2007 15:22

Hi GillL - well done on the potty training. It sounds like it's going well.

As an experienced mum, is there anything you'd recommend that I should buy soon - before the baby arrives? Or anything that we really don't need to buy?!

(So far we've just got a Moses basket and a few newborn sleepsuits. We still need to get a pram/travel system and a cot - I think we're going for a cotbed).

conkertree · 30/05/2007 15:30

you can definately count me in the non-concentrating group babylovesmuffins. am doing one thing, then thinking i can justify a little break, then one more then another little break.

but the baby is kicking more today - i think it likes it when i dont work flat out so thats my excuse.

am looking forward to these cds now - could just do with a wee seat beneath an oak tree. how long does each session take?

jem1969 · 30/05/2007 15:32

The cheek of it- just had to go to a meeting when I was in the throws (sp?) of internet shopping!
Gill- thanks for reassurance on classes.
Re the bathroom- DH at least knows he's bloody useless at DIY etc. He's still being annoying when agreeing to the quote though. We have used the guy before and he's good and we just need to get him in and do the work but DH has been to-ing and fro-ing over the quote, terms etc (trouble with being married to a lawyer I guess).
Re shopping- have just being looking at the M&S website- v cheap actually. eg muslin squares same as Kiddicare prices. Also like the fact that there's the 3 month return policy so can buy stuff in different sizes and return anything I don't use. Convinced am having a huge baby as I am huge but MW thinks not so will be buying vests etc in a variety of sizes!
