hi everyone i've been suffering really bad from backache this time was wondering whether it maybe the pos of the baby heard its more painful being back2back but dont know much about it and midwife says she cant really tell at the mo

growingbagpuss · 27/05/2007 10:41

Crikey - aren't we getting close. Haven't posted for ages - been too knackerred after work and trying to take it easy on days off.
Just got it agreed with Occy Health to work 1 day a week from home, as back, pelvis and veins from hell all causing fun. Can't stand for long, or sit either.
Think my bean is head down too - m/w attacked me 2 weeks ago to have a really good feel, and was fairly sure. I get little "twiddly" feelings around my bladder - like I'm being tickled, and then the big kicks are all under my ribs.
I hated this feeling 1st time round - but now I'm getting excited too at a hopefully calmer first few weeks doing the baby thing.
DH has just stropped off to PC world to buy a mouse - he's cross because i was in so much pain and so tired yesterday I forgot to enjoy driving to Twickenham for a rowing competition, and forgot to enjoy the rain, and cold, and watching him drink beer, and forgot to enjoy driving hoome while falling asleep as he'd drunk too much.
Now's he's worried I won't enjoy getting boiling hot in Le Mans in 2 weeks time when we go for the 24hrs. I don't quite know how bad it has to get for him to understand how b*dy uncomfortable pregnancy is, and why support tights and 30degree temps don't mix!! Any ideas?

itchyncsratchy · 27/05/2007 11:56

Oh dear, you have all my sympathy growingbagpuss! I was having a lot of back/pelvic pain but it's really under control now. I found this helpfulwww.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/antenatalhealth/physicalhealth/pelvicgirdlepain/

And bloody men, why are they so selfish??

bananabump · 27/05/2007 13:04

poor bagpuss, I know what you mean, it's very difficult to explain how tired or painful you feel without sounding like you're whining and/or milking it for sympathy.

With me having that anaemia at the moment, I get so unbelievably tired, one day last week I literally got out of bed, had a shower and made some toast, and that was me done. I was so tired I couldn't even get off the sofa to get the remote to turn over, so I had to watch Jeremy Kyle, which was torture in itself!

By the time dp came home, I'd gotten so stressed out because I hadn't even washed up, I burst out crying as he walked in. No wonder he thinks I'm loopy.

Needless to say he didn't offer to actually DO anything though.

growingbagpuss · 27/05/2007 14:27

Itchy - that site is really good! Funny - coz i get sciatica too - but it sounds more like PGP - neither of my M/W's seem remotely interested in my discomfort, but i might go to the GP if it gets worse. I'm keen to get physio input, but not sure how to get it if the M/w doesn't see a problem

Bananabump - the anaemia mus be awful, I was with DS and it is so frustrating feeling like your whole body is made of lead!

I feel so different today - having zonked last night, that it's hard to belive how crap i felt. The combination of tired and hurt is not a good one...

weather doesn't help .... it's hard to feel awful when you are stting in the sun drinking cold lemonade... but this weather...blurgh!!

katybird · 27/05/2007 16:24

Hi everyone, hope you're having a bit of fun on bank holiday despite the rain.

Sorry you're feeling rough bagpuss and bananabump. For the back pain, you could pay to see an osteopath or chiropractor if the mw won't refer you to a physio. I've started seeing a chiro and my hip pain has eased off a lot. Or go for a massage from someone who's trained to massage pregnant women, deep masage can really help.

conkertree · 28/05/2007 09:02

ok so how many people (like me) are in work today? am really hoping it means that the phone wont ring quite so often and I can get on with some important but boring things.

am really determined to try and spread out all the tidying up that needs to be done before i go on mat leave, but with the holidays looming for everyone else, I doubt how much time i will actually have to do it in. would come as such a big shock to work if i had the baby early cause am sure they think i will be 2 weeks late so can work up to 20th july - no doubt coming in early and leaving late to get my own stuff tidied, not leave anything with anybody and also take on other peoples things while they are on holiday (going by past experience) so am going to have to practise saying no.

Sorry - but of a rant there - not good for first thing on a monday morning.

on a lighter note - went pram shopping on sat again. think we might go with the bebe confort loola pram and car seat but not the carry cot. its either that or the maclaren xt and i dont like the look of it for a new born too much - facing away, looks a bit vulnerable etc.

Ceolas · 28/05/2007 09:09

Hi everyone - falling behind terribly!

Suffering a bit with back pain this weekend. I'm putting it down to pushing a trolley round Sainsbury's on Saturday. Online delivery now til the baby arrives!

Ceolas · 28/05/2007 09:10

Conkertree, how did you like the Loola seat for a newborn? I was looking at it, but worried it was a bit 'exposed' and not completely flat. The carrycot looked as if it would last 2 weeks though - so small!

Babylovesmuffins · 28/05/2007 09:14

Morning all. Anyone other mugs working today??

Feeling quite pleased with myself as we finished decorating the nursery yesterday (no thanks to DH who was extremely hungover from a big night away on Saturday). Needless to say, I made him stand holding a roll of border until I was 100% sure the border was completely straight on the wall. He disappeared soon after, leaving me up a ladder to hang the curtains and the lamp shade... Now we just need to buy things to put in the nursery (cot etc!!)

I'm also starting to get bad hip pain on the LHS from sleeping on my side, although I'm still waking up on my back quite a lot - lower back pain still quite bad too but rocking on my birthing ball seems to help quite a bit.

Bagpuss and Banana - I hope you're feeling a bit better - not long to go now!!

No idea what position this LO is in but seeing m/w tomorrow, so hopefully she'll be able to tell... Feeling a lot of pressure on my bladder but still no kicks at rib-height - they're mostly round the middle of my bump (I think where my waist used to be )

Babylovesmuffins · 28/05/2007 09:21

x-posts Conkertree! I'm also hoping the phone won't ring too much today - I really need to start sorting out my desk etc... you can't have much longer to go at work do you? I think I have 8 weeks to go (not that I'm counting or anything).

We were supposed to go pram shopping yesterday but as I mentioned earlier DH extremely hungover, so wasn't even an option...

conkertree · 28/05/2007 10:46

i have 8 weeks too (possible a bit ambitiously wanting to keep working to 38 1/2 weeks but things may change.

ceolas - i had previously been looking at the maclaren xt to be used from birth as we plan to use a didymos sling for a lot of the carrying and so didnt really want to pay for a pram with a carrycot that we wouldnt use much. So in comparison to that, the loola is less exposed because you can turn the seat round to face you.

I too wasnt sure about whether it lay completely flat though, but again, as I dont plan to use it too much in the first 6 months, i think i will maybe try and treat it more like a car seat, and make sure the baby doesnt stay in it for too long at a time. If we were doing trips out for a full day, it would be in the didymos.

conkertree · 28/05/2007 10:48

oh and first proper pregnancy embarrassment at work today - boobs are leaking. i knew they were a wee bit at nights cause woke up a few times with little wet marks. Purplerabbit gave me some disposable breast pads to try, but i wanted to leave it as long as possible before wearing them to work.

Guess i left it too long. I dont think anyone has seen yet so have put my suit jacket back on, but i'm now a little paranoid.

Anyone else getting this?

Babylovesmuffins · 28/05/2007 13:13

Not had leaky boobs yet but you have my sympathies. I have some breast pads at home just in case!

conkertree · 28/05/2007 13:15

thanks - its certainly something i wasnt warned about before i signed up

Ceolas · 28/05/2007 13:25

No, never leaked in pregnancy. Poor you!

katybird · 28/05/2007 14:54

Hi everyone, yup I'm stuck at work too. At least the weather's miserable so everyone else is having a crappy bank holiday too.

I'm planning on working to 38 weeks as well, but I'm a few weeks behind you - got 11 weeks left I think. But I'm away for two of them so it's not so bad!

My boobs haven't started leaking yet but I'm sure someone else on the board mentioned it last month. Hope no one notices conkertree, poor you.

Babylovesmuffins, how have you decorated the nursery? We've done nothing except get rid of some excess furniture so far, so any ideas are welcome! Someone at yoga (that's becoming my mantra ) suggested getting a sponge overlay to put on top of the mattress to help with pain from sleeping.

Babylovesmuffins · 28/05/2007 15:20

Hi Katybird. Isn't today just dragging? I'm sure my phone hasn't gone once!

I like the sound of a sponge overlay on the mattress - at the moment I have a small cushion under my left hip and a spare pillow between my legs at night. Have to keep pushing DH off at night so that I don't overheat (we have a King Size bed but he still insists on sleeping right up next to me - it was alright when I wasn't pregnant ).

TBH we've done very little to the nursery. We had it painted cream last week and I put up a cream & brown border (bear & rabbit from Next), matching curtains and light shade. I don't know if it's going to be a boy or girl, so went for neutral but now I feel it's lacking in colour a bit. I really love this www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/detail.php?productid=ST02581&branch=&category= alphabet wall frieze with finger puppets but it's probably not quite right for a newborn (no harm in starting young I suppose!!)

katybird · 28/05/2007 16:23

Aw, that's so cute! I may have to get one myself. LO will be too young for the alphabet but the colours are great. You'll have a very literate baby!

We know we're expecting a boy but I think we're still going to go for neutral colours, I hate the whole blue for a boy, pink for a girl thing. If you keep the walls neutral you can change it more easily when they get older, too.

I've been trying to sleep with a pillow between my legs and one under me, but I always roll off or kick them out of bed.

I've been a bit busy but today's still dragging!

Babylovesmuffins · 28/05/2007 16:58

I'm with you on the neutral colour thing Katybird - even when I'm buying for friends' babies I tend to avoid very pink or very blue things!!

2 minutes to go!!! Been shattered today and can't wait to get home.

Bye all.

bananabump · 28/05/2007 18:49

We're going to moving shortly after baby is born so we have decided not to turn the spare room into a nursery since he'll be sleeping in our room with us for at least the first few months anyway.

However I did see these pretty stikarounds on ebay and I've put them up around our room. They're reusable so we can take them with us when we move, really cute and not too "boyish" just in case he turns out to be a she!

conkertree · 29/05/2007 09:12

we are doing neutral colours too cause the babys room is our only spare bedroom and there is a double bed in there which is going to stay. the plan is, the baby will be in our room for about 6 months, then even once it goes to its own room, if people are staying over, it will come back to our room for the night.

also we couldnt decide on another colour that we both liked.

Hersetta · 29/05/2007 10:07

Hi all,

am back from holiday - we had a wonderful time. very relaxed and DH waited on me hand and foot for 16 days! Very good boy he was.

Holiday was memorable as DH finally felt the baby kick and we have decided on a name - at last !!

Will spend a while catching up on all the news - did I miss anything vital though?

TT - hope you had a great time in Vegas.

kiteflying · 29/05/2007 10:49

Hersetta

Welcome back! Just in time for a wet bank holiday. Glad you enjoyed sharing baby kicks with your loved one. Must have been lovely to be doted on by him.

Well I was extremely tired all weekend for no reason. We did nothing but look at the rain each morning and talk about maybe going to a museum or something for an hour over breakfast each morning, and then.. not...go out at all. We watched the Monaco Grand Prix Sunday, which meant I have nearly finished knitting a cot blanket for the baby.

Yoga was my highlight. Thought it might be worth sharing with those of you that have been having Braxton Hicks from really early that our teacher says this is a good sign that you will have a smooth and fast labour!

I have had really painful breasts again. I don't think it is kicking under the ribs although baby is head down. I really think I might call the midwife about it unless anyone tells me that they have had this as well. It feels like a bruise and a stinging sensation at the same time. I swear I have not been wearing underwire but it does feel like nerve endings gone wrong from tight elastic!

Congrats to those of you that have decorated the nursery and bought the pram. You must feel like there's just the little one to come and it is all complete. Goodness, it seems like it is just around the corner and I am not due until the last gasps of August so I can imagine how all of you due at the start must feel.

bananabump · 29/05/2007 12:00

Welcome back Hersetta, hope you had a lovely time!

Sorry to hear about the sore boobs, kiteflying, I found mine were really painful just before they started leaking at 5 months, so I think it was while they were having some changes inside. If you aren't leaking already then you might start to once the soreness has gone. I found that warm hot water bottles helped a bit, but anything touching them hurt.

Does anyone else feel like they're sleeping on a small cat at the moment? Seriously, it's beginning to really affect my sleep. I lie down on my side and he starts immediately moving just like as if I'd laid down on top of a cat, hands and feet pulling away or pushing out. I turn over because I get paranoid I'm "hurting" him and he does it on the other side.

It takes me hours to get to sleep at the moment with that and aching hips and worrying about this that and the other. ("The other" incidentally is now almost impossible, tried last night and it was SO awkward and difficult, we have now given up!) lol
