Hellooooo !!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
myweegirl · 25/05/2007 09:01

babylovesmuffins - i'll try anything for the heartburn - think i woke about 5 times during the night with it

i would (based on friends who have delivered at both the new royal and st johns and no other reason) go for st johns - much more personnal and not treated as just another 'patient'.

i think conkertree is going to stirling.

loler · 25/05/2007 09:36

My responce to doctor was - from the state of my tummy I don't think the pill has been working very well! (he didn't laugh!) Eye is much better today - no longer look like a battered wife! Lucky as have got about a million friends (and toddlers) coming here for a baby shower for another friend today - it's a surprise but hoping it's not too much of a shock and starts her off!

I've not had any heartburn at all - only just realised from everyone talking about it! Previously I've got through gallons of gaviscon. Am slightly worried as I also haven't been needed the loo much either (can easily go all night!). The only person I know who boasted a bit about these ended up having a c-section for a breech baby. As I'm also getting more kicks at the bottom than the top - PLEASE tell me you're the same and I'm worrying about nothing! (I know it can turn easily still but you know what it's like when pg - always have to have something to worry about!)

Mrsshuvel · 25/05/2007 10:00

Gonna try the love hearts if i wasn't up going to the loo all night, i was reaching for the gaviscon. Even having a drink of squash seems to set it off now.

Loler i'm getting loads of kicks at the bottom, much more so than the top. Some of them make me say "ooh" out loud in the office and make me jump. I get a few looks as i'm surrounded by men. None of them want to talk prams though, they're more interested in who my replacements gonna be.

jem1969 · 25/05/2007 10:17

Loler
No heartburn for me either and I don't need to go to the loo that much either, particulary during the night Not sure on the kicks- was getting loads on holiday but seemed to have died down a bit now- feels more like wriggling. I reckon I was more relaxed on holiday and not moving about whereas now as moving about a lot more and it's faling asleep. Good strong heartbeat last week at MW so not getting stressed about kicking- will probably come back with a vengeance soon.

JSer · 25/05/2007 10:28

Morning everyone. Haven't posted for ages - have been doing lots of travelling around the UK with work so just about manage to keep up with all the posts. Loler I get loads of kicks at the bottom. Saw midwife yesterday who confirmed it was "Head up, feet down" when she listened to the heart beat - but she wasn't worried at all and said "it can do what it likes at this stage!"
Also had first anti D injection (for rhesus -ve) and it wasn't half as bad as i thought it was going to be.All in all, made me feel quite cheery. Although i have been feeling very queasy this morning please don't be morning sicknes coming back - please no!

Babylovesmuffins · 25/05/2007 10:44

Loler my kicks have mostly been lower down and I've managed the last few nights without any toilet trips (although I don't know whether that's down to extreme exhaustion, as when I wake in the morning I'm bursting to go!!). Glad to hear your eye's getting better.

Had a very strange sensation when I was driving home from work last night - the baby has been rolling about quite a bit and suddenly this hard bit stuck out just below my belly-button!! It gave me such a shock I let out a yell and had to phone DH (hands-free of course!!)

Babylovesmuffins · 25/05/2007 10:48

Myweegirl, thanks for your thoughts on St John's. I'm leaning more towards St John's as I've heard from others that you probably get more individual care (and the parking's cheaper!! ) Hopefully the tour will confirm my thoughts...

Are you in Scotland too? Whereabouts are you planning to have yours?

bananabump · 25/05/2007 11:39

Mine seems to be mostly head down these days. He does big kicks at almost rib level and punches tight knicker elastic!

I think he does still move around occasionally, but I'm really hoping he stays where he is. I was trying to hold his little feet through my tummy the other day when he was kicking.

myweegirl · 25/05/2007 11:59

babylovesmuffins - yes i'm in scotland - it will be Stirling for me. though it's probably about the same travelling time for me to get to st johns. DD was born in stirling so i know what type of care i'll be getting (hopefully).

hope i didn't put you off the new royal!! i'm sure that they are as nice as elsewhere. i'd also think about the traffic and heading to the new royal you're more likely to get stuck on the bypass or getting trhough town (depending which direction you're coming from)

kiteflying · 25/05/2007 12:03

hi everyone. So hard to catch up even after a day. Poor TT, it sounds like every one of us that has flown anywhere has come back to that awful cold bug. I am still coughing weeks later. Loler, glad your eye is getting better - just in time for the baby shower too. Hope it goes well.

My heartburn has eased off and I am only up at five am these days, and I know for fact (from Monday's appointment with midwife) that bubs is head down at the moment. I get these lovely little rotations (from his feet moving) around my belly button. I really have to stop wearing stretchy dresses and tops - I could see bubs moving through my dress in a meeting this morning! I think your story is hilarious Babylovesmuffins. I do love being able to see those little feet. It makes me all gushy when I think of our first picture of bubs when s/he was just four cells under a microscope.

Jser, glad the injection was not too bad. Might be behind your queasiness though. I hope it is not some weird late trimester MS!!

conkertree · 25/05/2007 13:45

hi - back from scan - placenta has moved so its now about 4cm from the cervix so dont need any more checks for it which is good.

babylovesmuffins - in scotland too, and as myweegirl said - will be going to stirling. dont know anybody that has been to st johns or the new royal - so cant help with any information -sorry.

loler - i was convinced that the scan would show the head up high and feet down at the bottom cause all of my kicks seem to have been in the lower left hand quarter of my tummy area, but the babies head was right over the cervix and she had to poke at it for about 10 mins to get it to move so she could measure the placenta. the bum is up towards my ribs, and then the feet are back down towards where i feel the kicks. so not how i pictured it at all.

tokentotty · 25/05/2007 14:07

Oh Conkertree that's great news ! Nice feeling of relief you must have.

OP posts:
Babylovesmuffins · 25/05/2007 14:22

Good news Conkertree! That's one less thing to worry about. It's really difficult to picture where the baby's lying - all my kicks have been round the middle of my tummy and I've had none up around my rib cage yet, although I suppose he/she could be head down and just curled up in a funny position!

bananabump · 25/05/2007 14:27

Great news, conker! Did you get any pics or was it just a checkup type scan?

I have yet another scan on June 26th, fingers crossed he'll be head down and behaving himself!

Mrsshuvel · 25/05/2007 14:46

Fantastic news Conker! Today i've been getting kicks low down and high up. Baby's either doing somersaults or punching as well as kicking.

I had a scan at 20 weeks but not sure that i have another one. Haven't been told anything about another one. Was just wondering if it was usual to have 3. Have midwife app next thurs so will have to ask.

tokentotty · 25/05/2007 14:53

Oooh push for all the scans you can, why not ! My low lying placenta scan's booked for 34 weeks which is 27th June so looking forward to another quick look at Peanut.
I found out that my lo is also head down with his back sort of curled round and up past the left hand side of my belly button with his legs underneath my right breast which very much explains the feeling that I'm squashing him with my ribs when I sit down bent forward.

Anyone got anything exciting going on for the Bank holiday weekend ?

OP posts:
conkertree · 25/05/2007 15:53

yes it was a relief, but at the same time i'd always had in the back of my head when reading about labour that i might not be doing it like that, so now that i definately am (well barring any unforseen circumstances) its hit home a little that labour is looming- might need to start properly thinking about it.

scan was good to see little bits, but she said it was much harder to see lots cause it fills the screen too much. saw the face, but was a little scared by it - very alien like. i know i shouldnt have been thinking that, but i got more maternal feelings over seeing its little spine - cause it was very cute.

mrsshuvel - i was told at my 20 week scan to come back at 30 weeks, so they probably wont routinely scan you again unless you've been told before. but you never know.

we dont get monday off tt - so just a normal weekend for me. but will be going for a proper serious look at buggies and cots tomorrow. then watching the monaco grand prix on sunday so my dh can show off to his friends that we were driving round the circuit two weeks ago. (have to admit it was quite good fun cause all the barriers and the pit lane and everything was set up ready so it was quite exciting to drive round.)

jem1969 · 25/05/2007 16:08

I know I don't get any more nhs scans but when I had my 20 week scan at the fetal medical centre they recommended to come back for a well being/growth one at 32 weeks. They check forfrom their website)

? Measurement of the size of the fetal head, abdomen and thigh bone and calculation of an estimate of fetal weight
? Examination of the movements of the fetus
? Evaluation of the placental position and appearance
? Measurement of the amount of amniotic fluid
? Assessment of blood flow to the placenta and fetus by colour Doppler ultrasound.

Do you think it's worth £150 for peace of mind? How would I know otherwise if I had a low lying placenta etc - would they have seen anything at 20 weeks?

jem1969 · 25/05/2007 16:08

Didn't mean to add a sad face- not sure how i did it!

Babylovesmuffins · 25/05/2007 16:32

Hi Jem
My 20-week scan confirmed that my placenta was in a posterior position (which is apparently ok) so I think if your 20-week scan was also an anomaly scan, they should have picked up on any potential problems. Did you get a summary sheet of the scan? Check it and see if it mentions anything about your placenta.

We had to pay £150 for our 20-week scan, which was definitely worthwhile but I'm not sure about paying out another £150 for a growth scan. It's difficult to know - I suppose it's up to you, if it would give you peace of mind? Although, I believe the m/w should be able to tell how the baby is lying etc and if there's any doubt about the baby's size, you would get a scan on the NHS. Maybe a more experienced person could answer this! I'm a first-timer

Having said that, one of my friends (who is very petite and slim) didn't have a late scan and only found out after a really lengthy labour and emergency C-section, that her baby was too huge for her to have delivered naturally!!! (Her DH is very tall)She said if they'd scanned her closer to the birth, she would have known that the baby was going to be very big and they could have handled it better. I haven't come across anyone else with a similar experience though, so it's probably quite rare!! (Sorry if TMI)

jem1969 · 25/05/2007 16:39

thanks blmuffins
My 20 week one said placenta was ok- it was in front which is why I hadn't been feeling much kicking up at that point.
They also said baby was big but MW said it wasn't last week (after feeling tummy for a nano second).
We're going for a long weekend in France for a wedding at 32 weeks so I suppose it would be quite nice to know everything is looking OK before we go.
I feel a bit like I did when we we got married-paying out left right and centre without really thinking about what it was all costing!

Mrsshuvel · 25/05/2007 16:43

Nothing was mentioned to me before about another scan so i take it i won't have one. I don't think i could justify paying the £150 to go private unless i thought there was something wrong. I'm sure the midwife would suspect and suggest having one if he thought there was a problem.

I just ordered my bugaboo from Lullabys Jem. I went for the sand and brown and the sky diver car seat. I got a call too saying 8 weeks, which is fine as i'll be on ML then so won't have to take a day off to wait for delivery. It really hit home that we don't have long left when she said 8 weeks. My cousin is shipping a moses basket over to me from Ireland too. I think it will really really hit home when i see it and think that's where my little boy will be sleeping. Ahhh getting all emotional now

Not sure what we will be doing over the weekend. Were supossed to be going to Canterbury so DP could discuss his upcoming best man duties with the groom. This has been cancelled now as i suspected it would be as the groom is not the most reliable person in the world and previous plans we have made to meet up have never actually happened. I said to DP that if he keeps mucking you about then tell him to find a replacement because his wedding is not our number 1 priority at the moment! This is the wedding that's 12 days after my EDD.

jem1969 · 25/05/2007 16:51

Hmm- will have a think
Have a nice weekend everyone! We're off to sunny Wales (haha). Can't wait!

Babylovesmuffins · 25/05/2007 17:26

MrsS - I've got a wedding 10 days after my EDD (it's my MIL's ). Are you worried you might not make it?? (Not sure if this is your first). I've warned MIL that we might not be there (I don't think she believed me).

katybird · 25/05/2007 19:10

Have a fab weekend everyone, I'm working it so secretly praying for rain so I don't feel too bad! If anyone else is around and fancies a chat I'll be surfing like mad when I'm bored in the office.

If anyone's worried about having a large baby or the position of the baby my yoga teacher, who's also a doula, said you can always request a scan from your mw. They might try and put you off, but if you're really worried I'd push for one. Maybe they'd only do them when we're closer to term though.
