Hellooooo !!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Babylovesmuffins · 23/05/2007 20:35

Think www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/bruorfindusing/bruazofbrands/brutravelgraco/726052 this is the Graco system my cousin has Katybird - it's called the Sterling Travel System

I'll need to get a wriggle on and get a pram and cot ordered. That's the nursery painted now so at least that's a start.

I'm also finding my birthing ball great for relieving my back pain and pain in my bum (like a trapped nerve) which has started to develop over the last couple of weeks... I've borrowed one from a friend so don't know how much it cost but it's a 65cm ball www.thera-band.com/exercise_ball.html - bouncing on it right now (well, maybe rocking is a more accurate description)

jem1969 · 23/05/2007 20:39

TT- poor you
I've also got shocking cold and sore throat (and therefore so has DH of course- altho strangely no symptoms) but everytime I blow my nose it's all bloody too which isn't very nice for people sitting next to me on the tube...

Babylovesmuffins · 23/05/2007 20:48

Oh poor TT - sending you some virtual Nightnurse... hope you're feeling better soon. It is a complete b*gger not being able to take any meds at the moment...

Ooooh Jem!! JL do a nursery appointment?????!! I might just have to look into that one... I think it's really difficult to "test drive" a pram without the added weight of baby in it. DH has been very funny in pram shops - he knows all the model names and he'll say things like "oh yes, the SX4..." - the shop assistants all have a bit of a giggle!! I think a bit of a holiday when you finish work sounds like a good idea - I'm taking 3 weeks annual leave from 20th July and trying to convince DH to take some time off before all hell breaks loose!! (Meant in the nicest possible sense of course!!!) I'm very tempted to finish up earlier though - it just seems like a very long time away at the moment.

tokentotty · 23/05/2007 21:04

Am glad DH isn't ill with it too (YET) I've got enough with all his other ailments at the moment as he needs surgery on his spine again - he does love an op the boy ! We're trying to work out the best time for him to have it done as it means 6 weeks off work and I can guarantee I'll end up having a c-section and being incapacitated too if we don't get it right ! Still, he's powering through the pain somehow at The Fat Duck in Bray this evening with clients, what a martyr eh ?
I have to say that I also like the idea of a nursery appt at JL, think I'll seriously look into that, thanks for the tip !
I'd planned on packing up at 34 weeks but have been told in no uncertain terms by Betty that I should work up to that day at the absolute maximum! I have to say that it's getting more and more tempting to to bring it forward though...

JL appointment was good (we went to Peter Jones as it was nearer but I found them nicer actually- the woman in JL Oxford St I spoke to was a bit of an old bat). Spent ages fiddling around with the prams and then looked at everything else. No hard sell at all. In fact for something (can't remember what, something to do with a baby bath) she said it was better to go elsewhere as they didn't have the most useful ones at JL. You can do a nursery list- bit like a wedding list which people can buy things off but decided that was far too embarassing and also I still don't really know what we want yet.
think they get quite booked up esp. at weekends so worth booking sooner rather than later. (Ooh yes- you also get a voucher for coffee and cake in the cafe!)

conkertree · 24/05/2007 11:21

aah the coffee and cake voucher - that was one of the best bits of doing our wedding list there. was tempted to go back for a second go just to get another voucher.

am starting to wonder if i'm leaving work too late now - have said i will leave on 20th july, but am due 1st august so will be just over 38 weeks by then. but then again i really dont fancy being off much before that (as long as I still fit in the car) cause i live in a wee village and will be stuck there by myself, so think i'd rather keep working if possible. but will need to make sure everything has been handed over well before then incase it does come early.

think the baby is turning cause the kicks feel very different today - have my 30 week scan tomorrow for low lying placenta - so will be really interesting to see how its lying. have been feeling lots of very low kicks and it always confuses me cause i know its legs must be tucked up next to its tummy, but with the kicks being so low, i cant work out where the rest of it goes.

Mrsshuvel · 24/05/2007 11:23

Sending you hugs TT! Sounds like exactly what i came down with when i came back from US.

MY DP was very interested in the prams at the begining. He talked about them as if he was buying another motorbike. However once we'd decided on the Bugaboo but had to decide on colours he lost interest.

I'm leaving work on the 20th too but afer the nightmare i had getting home last night cos of the fire, i'm thinking of going earlier Friday the 13th or not. Took me 3 hours to do a 45 min journey. My ankles were the size of my knees and i nearly collapsed through the door. I hadn't heard a peep out of baby all day. Then as i'm sitting on the DLR he decides to dance all over my bladder. Typical man!

jem1969 · 24/05/2007 11:38

I didn't get a voucher when we did our wedding list there- how unfare!

TT- hope you are feeling a bit better and that you have NOT gone into work.

Weren't the tubes and train shocking last night? I get a seat thank god but took a while- took another pregnant girl to say would I like to share a seat with her for several men to look up and say - oh sorry didn't see you etc etc. This morning was rubbish too.
MrsShuvel- quite impressed with Lullabys customer service. They phoned me yesterday to say that the colour I want in the maxi cosi will take 8 weeks and was that ok , when is the baby due etc? Apparently they will be getting the brown fabric in next week which is more than mothercare and JL are saying.

Mrsshuvel · 24/05/2007 11:50

Was going to order the Bug today but forgot my credit card as was worrying about making it to work today. Will definitely order tomorrow.

A lady gave up her seat for me on the tube last night and was really lovely and kept checking i was ok. I must have looked awful, but it was about 300 degrees down there. The DLR was a different story. All the pushing and shoving at Canary Wharf, i was quite worried. I decided to go in the opposite direction in the end and find an empty station to get on in front of everyone else. Glad i did as it was still scary when i got back to Canary Wharf. Had a seat though so managed to stay out of the crush.

Wearing maternity shorts today as was very uncomfortable yesterday. Don't care that the stupid company manual says not to wear shorts above the knee! Oooh i'm such a rebel

tokentotty · 24/05/2007 12:00

Glad the appt went well Jem, are you all decided on everything now ?
Conkertree - something Betty said to me when she was here on Monday about the low lying placenta. She said 32 weeks was far to early to test as the uterus didn't move up for weeks after that and it was most common for it to drag the placenta up and out of the way. The optimum time to scan/test was 36 weeks
Oh MrsS, Is there no way you could drive to Canary Wharf? I have been for 10 years anyway but really couldn't face the bunfight on that bl**dy toytown train currently. Good for you sticking it to the dress code - when needs must and all that!!

GillL · 24/05/2007 12:50

Hello. I've just caught up on the new thread. I was really busy at work on Monday and then I was at home on Tuesday and then had loads of crap to deal with when I got back yesterday.

I thought I was leaving work early on 27th July. I left 4 weeks before my EDD last time and was bored out of my mind half way through the first week. This time I was planning to leave 2 weeks before my EDD but mum (who looks after dd while I'm at work) is taking time off so I didn't get a choice.

MrsShuvel - where did you get maternity shorts? I've been looking for summery maternity clothes recently but all I've found so far are vest tops. I know I could go online but I really prefer to try things on.

GillL · 24/05/2007 12:52

I meant to say - I thought I was leaving work early on 27th July so I can't believe some of you are leaving in June!

myweegirl · 24/05/2007 13:06

hi everyone

TT - hope you are feeling better

conkertree - good luck tomorrow with the scan.

i managed to find some maternity shorts that weren't too bad from mothercare..

my last day is the 13th july (but i'm going to take it off as flexi). which is stopping about 3 weeks before my EDD. my DD was 3 weeks early and was born on the 1st day of my mat leave so i'm hoping that the same thing will happen - don't know how i'll cope if i go past my due date!

my heartburn is getting awful at night i'm waking up every couple of hours with it - i'm sure the dr's going to ask why i keep requesting prescriptions for gaviscon so often

jem1969 · 24/05/2007 13:18

who's leaving in June?! Can't read all the threads again! I would love to leave now. I honestly do not think I'd get bored.
Someone at works's wife left at the beginning on May and she's not due to the end of July. He seems rather proud of this and keeps going on about how she'll keep the credit cards busy. Think he sees himself as some sort of macho high flying provider who's able to 'keep' his wife. (I'm not being nasty- well I am but he is universally acknowledged as being a tw*t of the highest degree. (I also happen to know roughly how much he earns - perks of the job- and it's really not that special!). Keeps wanting me to engage in cot and pram talk- I am not interested.

loler · 24/05/2007 13:18

I'm finishing at the end of July too - (4 wks before EDD) - Would probably finish sooner but wanted to have more time at the end of ML so that I can cope with school holidays at the begining of Sept. When you have your nice little baby that you can take any where at any time it comes as a right shock when the government tell you they have to go to school! Really not liking it at the moment! Also having uniform issues - hate it that 4 yr old dd has to be dressed the same as everyone else so young! She is also having issues with having to wear a skirt (having not worn one since she could say no!)

Sorry end of moan - DH working away at the moment so have had no-one to talk to in RL since Monday! Still off with dodgy eye - went back to GP and has turned into Cellulitisis (I thought you got that on your legs - pg must have made it spread!) - hence the punched in the face look! On a load of antibiotics - completely forgot I was pg until the GP asked if I was on the pill! Guess he wasn't very observant!

tokentotty · 24/05/2007 13:36

You're kidding Loler...your doctor seriously asked if you were on the pill ??? Am just laughing incredulously here ! Sounds awful about your eye though love, I really hope the anti-bios kick in soon and sort it all out.
Myweegirl - have you tried Zantac ? It's an over the counter remedy which is just one tiny tablet swallowed with water and works brilliantly. I called the pharmacist the other day to see if we can take it (active ingredient Ranitidine) and he said it was ok as it was something that can be given to babies. Worth a try perhaps ? You can buy it much cheaper in supermarkets as well I think under the generic name of Ranitidine.
Jem, I'm packing up in June. Actually, think it's 5 weeks today, holy cow that's scary!

Mrsshuvel · 24/05/2007 13:37

Got the shorts from Target (bit like Asda in the US. Bought 4 pairs of different colours. They worked out at about £6 each, really good quality though with the under bump panel. I did order some Linen ones from Blooming Marvelous but they didn't really do anything for me so i sent them back. My bum didn't look too flattering in them.

I wouldn't normally be anywhere near Canary Wharf TT. Normally just get the train to Waterloo East directly home but they shut the station so the only way i could go was using the tube and DLR otherwise i try to stay well clear of it.

Wish i'd remembered my credit card, desperately want to order my Bugaboo and car seat. Then i want them to arrive by the time i get home so i can just sit and look at them.

Mrsshuvel · 24/05/2007 13:50

Know what you mean about the heartburn Myweegirl. I'm sure my chemist thinks i'm a Gaviscon junkie!!

On the pill!! That made me chuckle. I hope all gets better soon though Loler, can't be very plesant for you.

GillL · 24/05/2007 15:28

I can't remember who it was Jem. Maybe it was wishful thinking and they meant to say July.

katybird · 24/05/2007 15:37

Hi everyone, phew, busy day, just caught up with the posts. Thanks for the Graco link babylovesmuffins, will definitely check that out.

I'm not planning to leave work until I'm 38 weeks, but I'm probably being naive so I might change it nearer the time. I can quite happily laze around the flat watching crap telly on my days off, but not sure I could manage it for more than a couple of weeks in a row.

Had my first appointment with the chiropractor yesterday and she was really nice. Apparently my left hip is slightly twisted at the moment because the ligaments in my pelvis have softened, so all my other muscles are overcompensating which causes the hip pain. I've got a few more appointments over the next week so hopefully that'll sort me out. It's a bit sadistic but I quite liked the loud cracks when she adjusted me!

Get better soon loler and TT.

myweegirl · 24/05/2007 16:12

TT - thanks i'm off to chemist to get some zantac now (will try anything!) i've been supplementing the gaviscon with rennies as well.

if i try to sleep with any more pillows propping me up my nose will be hitting the ceiling

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 24/05/2007 17:24

Hi everyone

Babylovesmuffins · 24/05/2007 17:38

Hello all. Just caught up on today's posts and they made me giggle - can't believe your GP asked you if you're on the pill Loler!! What did he say when you told him you're pg??!! I hope your eye gets better soon.

Jem, we've got a lot of macho high flying tw*ts at our work too!! One in particular (who actually only thinks he's macho and high flying) keeps talking prams to me and it actually makes him sound very camp... especially when he does it in front of one of the directors and I have to tell him that I'm far too busy to discuss prams at the moment, thanks very much

TT - hope you're feeling better soon.

Commuting is becoming a right pain in the backside - so far I've been lucky in getting a seat on the bus but yesterday nobody had opened any windows and I really thought I was going to pass out... I could quite happily finish up soon without getting bored... roll on 20th July!! Only 8 weeks left!!

Babylovesmuffins · 24/05/2007 17:44

Conkertree, good luck with your scan tomorrow. Do you know where you're having your baby? I've just booked a tour of St John's in Livingston today, so it'll all seem more real in a few weeks time... Still can't decide between St John's and Edinburgh Royal

Babylovesmuffins · 24/05/2007 17:48

Oh, also meant to say - for those with Heartburn... I've been trying Love Heart sweets recently (after taking copious amounts of Gaviscon tablets )!!

another friend recommended Love Hearts to me and they seem to be working ok. Heartburn not been so bad over last few weeks though (that'll be me sentenced to eternal heartburn now, having just said that...)

Proper indigestion remedies are probably more effective though!
