Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Hersetta · 05/06/2007 12:13

I'm off for the day in 15 mins - 28w blood tests followed by visit to Anti D clinic for treatment. DH is coming with me and taking me out for dinner afterwards - he obviously wants something!

Not too much chat without me - can't wait to hear how the hyprobirthing classes went TT. My NCT classes start on 26th June so only another 3 weeks to wait - wish they were sooner though as I feel completely unprepared about giving birth and how to look after baby when she arrives.

GillL · 05/06/2007 12:14

Hello. Hope you all had a nice weekend. I had a migraine and was in bed by 7:30pm on Friday. Dd woke up 3am Monday morning so I put her in our bed. Dh got really annoyed and took her back in her room so she screamed and screamed and I had to sit with her for 2 hours until she went back to sleep. she was still up at 7am. I was so knackered that I had to take the day off work yesterday and dh had the nerve to tell me he was tired!!!! He bought me some flowers and told me he was feeling guilty about making me do that.

I had a growth scan on Thursday on a new machine. It made such a difference - we could see so much detail even hair! It was lovely. I also saw a doctor and midwife. Apparently I had lucocytes (sp?) in my urine so they had to send my sample off. The midwife said it may indicate a water infection. I got a phone call from the doctors saying they had a blood test form for me to pick up to test NCV. I have no idea what that is. The next night they phoned to say they had a prescription for me. I don't really know what's going on.

I'm counting down the weeks til I go on leave now. I feel so tired all the time and spend the whole day at work watching the clock. Still got 8 weeks to go

loler - We put dd in her own bed at 2 years. She refuses to go to sleep in it and will fall asleep behind the gate at the door way.

Annie - congrats on getting married. Glad it went well and look forward to seeing the pics.

angie0201 - welcome. Hope you're well. I've been potty training dd for the last week or so too. I think we've both posted in the same thread in the potty training section. I'm lucky that my mum has been dealing with most of it during the week while I'm at work but it's still stressful at the weekend. Luckily the weather was good so not too much mess indoors.

banana - my baby's kicks are getting much stronger and have actually hurt a couple of times.

Sorry for the long post.

stretchmarks · 05/06/2007 12:33

congrats on wedding annie.

GillL I have no idea what the NCV is but glad it's being sorted for you. Sorry to hear you've had such a tiring weekend.

Our cotton nappies have just been delivered. It has got me so excited the newborn covers are so small can't wait to start sorting through DS1's clothes now.

MrsBadger · 05/06/2007 13:11

hi Gill - sorry you've had a tough weekend but lovely to hear about your scan .

No clue on NCV, but if it could possibly have been a MCV, that's sometimes done as part of the routine full blood count (ie the one that tells them if you're anaemic etc) - I get one every six weeks cause of my super-cautious consultant .
The prescription sounds like it could be antibiotics for the possible wee infection - what did it turn out to be for?

Haven't yet ordered nappies as still have nowhere to store them...

tokentotty · 05/06/2007 13:13

Sorry - just a quick message, have you seen that bugaboo that's for sale on here ?? I know someone was looking for one but can't remember who...

OP posts:
Ceolas · 05/06/2007 13:15

MrsB, is your DH still keen on the bugaboo?

GillL · 05/06/2007 13:17

Thanks Stretch and MrsB. It could be MCV. My hearing's not very good. Dh is picking up the prescription tonight so I'll let you know what they've given me.

MrsBadger · 05/06/2007 13:18

oh don't ask

the other day he came home raving about a 3-wheeler with a disc brake, which is so not what we need

we have JL visit with MIL scheduled for Sun and no decisions will be made till after that

Ceolas · 05/06/2007 13:23

Oh good luck then. Do report back

conkertree · 05/06/2007 13:38

lol loler at the monitor conversation - that is one of my fears cause it could so easily happen. will have to have a little sign up in the babys room reminding me that i can be heard.

slept a bit better last night - cant work out why some nights its fine and comfy and others the hips are really sore. oh well.

felt fine this morning and was determined to work as hard as possible to make up for being really tired other days, but now that its lunchtime, am flagging again.

conkertree · 05/06/2007 15:11

oh dear i seem to have stopped all conversation.

Mrsshuvel · 05/06/2007 15:13

I'm here, just shattered.

jem1969 · 05/06/2007 15:17

me too-just nothing very exciting to say!
I have however just ordered my cot, mattress and changing unit. Dithered for ages because still seems so early even though it's not really.

loler · 05/06/2007 15:19

Just popped on to look busy for ten miuntes before I can go home.

Had a real moan about my work load so have had lots taken off me - now only left with the really boring stuff!

Waiting to hear if we exchanged contracts for our new house today - not holding my breath - need to count to 10 to stop a rant about solicitors!

Will be really exciting to have a room for this baby!

kiteflying · 05/06/2007 15:43

MrsB the bugaboo on sale on here is only £230 which is a really good price for one with all its bits. Maybe you should consider.

I too have a partner who waxes lyrical about gimmickry in prams. It has been an interesting and amusing insight into the male psyche - men who love cars also love prams.

Good afternoon everyone, and conker don't be afraid to go home early.

GllL hope it is nothing serious. If the prescription is antibiotics could it be worth asking for a proper explanation? Sorry you had a mizz weekend with migraine. I thought migraines should be behind us all by now but perhaps yours was not hormonal.

Bananabump glad iron is making a huge difference to you. I am still religiously taking my floradix but tiredness is nevertheless a fact of life now.

Ceolas how did the GTT go - did they give you a result?

TT, are you going to tell us all what a whizz you are at self-hypnosis after only one session?

Angie, welcome here hope you have lots of purchases to report. I am enjoying everyone's shoppping!

And that's all I can keep up with for now...

conkertree · 05/06/2007 15:51

oh dear loler hope it all goes through ok - purplerabbit and i are both solicitors (and i have to say its quite often that we have a rant about clients so it probably all balances up if you want to rant about yours).

read a bit of the hypnobirthing book last night but couldnt really get into it. wanted to get to the techniques but the first bit just went on and on about how good a method it is and how you dont need to feel any pain - am a bit sceptical about that, but think it can probably be better using hypnotherapy and relaxation etc than it would be without it, but dont need 60 or so pages of patting themselves on the back first. has anyone else read books about it - would love to go to the classes but cant afford them.

kiteflying · 05/06/2007 16:05

Conker, I have found the CD series made by Maggie Howell very good, as I think has Jem and others on this thread. My BF and I are going to a course by her organisation in a few weeks time.

I know what you mean about some of the literature about. I was looking on the net for some alternate hypno courses and found people quoting Tony Robbins and the Dalai Lama on their home pages (amongst other weirdness) quite off putting!

We received our "programme" from the Active Birth Centre and at least four pages were taken up by guff about how great they were and how we should purchase more things from them. Thank God I am already at the yoga classes or I would have been really put off by that. As it is, I am a bit annoyed that for the money we are paying for the two day course the written materials don't at least approximate the weight of her book. I don't want to be told to pay another ten pounds for a book when I have just paid nearly four hundred pounds for a course!

kiteflying · 05/06/2007 16:10

Loler good luck on the house exchange. Sorry to say that as a city solicitor I find the high street solicitors involved in house buying and selling really frustrating. I hope conker is not offended by that. I asked for a lease review on a property once, and received a five page letter pointing out all the parts of the lease that should be reviewed. No opinion, no analysis. Waste of money.

tokentotty · 05/06/2007 16:15

Erm....think I was a bit of a failure at the class last night am soooooo gonna be the dunce. Thought it best to point out that I wasn't very 'new agey' but had had the basics explained to me and thought that it had made complete sense to me and that was why I was doing it - to learn about relaxation etc.
Then she got us to do an exercise that involved holding a pen between our thumb and two fingers. She talked through about us holding the pen, then holding it tightly and then trying to drop it. Cue TT's pen smacking straight on the floor whilst no-one else could let go of theirs.... She obviously thinks I'm the joker of the pack.

Thanks kite. I just find it weird that I have no obvious symptoms. I've suffered with migraines since I was 13. I don't actually get them very often. When I'm not pg I can nip them in the bud with a couple of Anadin Extra. Paracetamol really doesn't do the trick.

GillL · 05/06/2007 16:17

Lol TT. I think I would be the same.

Ceolas · 05/06/2007 16:23

Hi kiteflying. My veins are rubbish and they took 5 attempts before getting the blood. Par for the course really. Apart from that fine but I am knackered

I will get the result by mail in 1-2 weeks. Really hoping it's negative as I want a home birth.

kiteflying · 05/06/2007 16:31

Good luck Ceolas - I did not realise that you could miss out on your home birth if the test went the wrong way. Thought it just involved extra monitoring.

TT, I am sorry but I did laugh at your story. My other half thinks hypno only works on so many people and that I am too much of a stress head control freak to have any susceptibility at all. I kind of disagree with this - everyone is capable of using their mind for whatever purpose they want. Maybe your teacher was just going for the easy parlour trick to get everyone's interest. I am sure the deep relaxation techniques will be useful for you once you have the practice down.

GillL - poor you having had migraines that long. I used to get them from working too many hours and no painkiller would work for me. It was a dark room and lots of sleep or nothing.

growingbagpuss · 05/06/2007 16:40

oh crumbs - thought I'd pop on for a quick catch up having come home ON TIME b4 picking ds up from nursery..

Erm...Gilll - osrry about migraines, I get awful ones, but it turns out they are hormonal and the only cure I have ever found fro them is pregnancy....sometimes I think I'd rather have the migraine. What do you usually take? It makes me so cross that they put a blanket ban on anything that they aren't sure about. My (highly irresponsible) attitude would be, that by this stage it's not likely to cause major harm to LO, and migraine meds are usually single doses - but don't ANYONE ever quote me on that!

Pinkranger - I have Louise and Jo - and I had a specific list of things to eat B4 my bloods too... needless to say, I forgot to not overdose on sugar in the morning and treated myself to a mars bar!! Ooops. Glad ur planned homebirth - ME TOO!

Off now for chocolate hit B4 wrenching DS away from his beloved nursery assistants..

GillL · 05/06/2007 16:57

Hi growingbagpuss. Anadin Extra is the only medication that actually gets rid of my headaches/migraines. I've taken so many other things over the years that my body has just become immune to them. I can't wait to be able to take Anadin again. I wonder if you can take them whilst bf.
