Hellooooo !!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Babylovesmuffins · 04/06/2007 13:36

Thank you! That helps narrow it down a bit, as some of the mattresses just seem to be sponge clean only. I've just looked at an organic mattress on Beaming Baby and it's over £100

Also just realised that LO won't be in the cot for a few months, so it's not urgent but I'd like to have it sorted anyway.

jem1969 · 04/06/2007 13:39

they've got maxi-cosis on the john lewis website. I ordered mine from Lullabys as it was part of a special offer with the Bugaboo but have to wait 8 weeks as there's a supply problem with some of the colours apparently

Babylovesmuffins · 04/06/2007 13:40

thanks Jem! Off to John Lewis website now...

MrsBadger · 04/06/2007 13:48

sponge clean only? are they having a laugh?
waterproof sheets ahoy...

loler · 04/06/2007 13:49

Afternoon everyone -

Our cot matress has already done the other two and still looks brand new (I know the guidance is to have a new one but check out the reason and it's because the older matresses were giving off some sort of fume). It was pretty cheap (from babies r us for about £70) but has a one way breathable top layer - some how the sick/wee isn't drawn in but the baby doesn't get too hot. Can be wiped clean and that's all I've needed to do.

Have to inform DS that soon he'll be kicked out of his cot! Not looking forward to it as I know he'll not stay put in a bed!

Off to make a lemon cake from a recipe on here.

growingbagpuss · 04/06/2007 14:11

Our mattress was John Lewis - erm - mid range foam thing, with removable washable cover. i put a disposable changing mat between the cover and the foam just in case of real accidents and it has washed up fine.

I think they are up at about £70 right now.

I know what you all mean about the knacered thing.. we walked thru town on sat to pick up a few bits, and just going from Fremlin walk to M&S killed me (it makes sense to the locals) - I hadn't put my granny tights on, and the veins did not appreciate the excercise.

Has anyone else bought a mxai dress yet as an alternative to maternity clothes? I saw a non pg lady wearing a really nice one, bu thought if I buy one it would ruin it for anyone non pg as they would realise how pg they LOOK

Babylovesmuffins · 04/06/2007 14:15

Haven't bought a maxi dress yet but did see a really nice non-pg one in H&M's window during the week!

That's all the cot/pram shopping done now - phew! Order due to arrive on Saturday (very excited!!!!). Thanks for all your advice.

jem1969 · 04/06/2007 14:19

there's nice maxi dress in next I keep seeing advertised. May see if it'sll do for this wedding I have to go to but I am expending daily so daren't buy anything until 2 days before. I did by a very cheap one in the states which is a maternity maxi dress and it makes me look abot 40 stone. I think if you're not pregnant you have to be about 17, willow thin and 6 foot tall to look good in them.

jem1969 · 04/06/2007 14:20

aplogies again for shocking spelling - it's about 50 degrees in the office and I'm feeling very woolly brained

Mrsshuvel · 04/06/2007 14:43

OMG i'm soooo tired, just spilt orange juice all over my desk [idiot emoticon].

Good advice about mattresses. Looked at cots in John Lewis yesterday but didn't think to look at matresses.

Can't help with the maxi dress thing. cannot get away with wearing dresses normally. It's only because the bump takes away from the saddle bags that i can get away with them for this wedding.

Have just been told that my replacement will be starting work on the 18th of this month. That means i'm gonna have to entertain her for a whole month before i leave. [Mrs S wonders how she will get away with chatting on Mumsnet all day then].

tokentotty · 04/06/2007 14:50

MrsS, can you volunteer to sit at another desk out of her way in order to facilitate her 'settling in' better....

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 04/06/2007 14:51

growingbagpass- fremlin walk to M&S - you must be very near me!!

Mrsshuvel · 04/06/2007 14:57

Ooh good thinking TT. I can still pretend to look busy then .

Have 5 days holiday still to use. Am in France this wednesday til monday. Will work the rest of that week then think i'll take off every wednesday until ML. Just to break up the week. Anyone else finding it hard going to work the 5 days?

tokentotty · 04/06/2007 15:22

Exactly MrsS! Nothing like pushing papers round a desk and MNetting the days away....

OP posts:
Babylovesmuffins · 04/06/2007 15:43

Mrs S - I'm finding it hard to get out of bed in the morning, to get the bus into work everyday and to keep going through the day at work - it's a daily battle with my stamina to try and make it through to Friday!!! Thank God for MN. (Can you make your replacement do all of your legwork for you and sneak onto MN when she's not there??) I work in the same room as my director and have to keep closing the screen down

I've only got one day's holiday to use and it's like the most precious thing at the moment!! I can't decide whether to take off a Monday or a Friday... I'm actually just wishing I hadn't kept 3 week's leave for the start of my ML - could really do with one of those weeks right now...

5-day weeks are sooooooo tough!!

Hersetta · 04/06/2007 15:53

BLimey - I nip off for a meeting and a business lunch and you've all gone chat crazy !!

Great pram TT - thought you were going for the Apple. What swung the cherry to you?

Also love the maclarren - will deinitely get one when LO goes forward facing as they are so much lighter than my Silver Cross.

ooh forgot to say Friday night at Wembley was fab - the stadium is awesome - a world beater for sure. Great night had by me and DH although we didn't get home until after 1am.

Mrsshuvel · 04/06/2007 15:55

Babyloves can you not say you want to take one of those weeks. I thought you could change your mind as long as you gave notice and put it in writing. Not 100% on that one maybe someone else can clarify a bit. It's a nightmare in the mornings though. After having a rubbish nights sleep the last thing i want to do is be here .

Will definitely be getting replacement to do everything. Gonna ask for another laptop so i can 'get on with things' while she is learning the ropes hehehe

Mrsshuvel · 04/06/2007 15:56

Glad you had a fab night Hersetta. 1 am, you raver! I would have been dead on my feet!

Babylovesmuffins · 04/06/2007 16:05

Haha! Like the laptop excuse Mrs S.

I think I could take one week's annual leave now but it would mean finishing up a week later than planned (i.e. 27th July rather than 20th). I think I could possibly bring my ML forward by a week but I'm just not sure - it's due to start on 13th August - don't know if I can change it, or how much notice I need to give. Might try to find out...

conkertree · 04/06/2007 16:09

sounds like everyone had busy weekends. we finished laying turf on saturday which looks great, and had a day out with purplerabbit and her ds on sunday but am absolutely knackered today (sounds like we all are).

think i slept really badly - hips were very painful even with a pillow.

pil came for tea yesterday - not quite as rude as usual though there were plenty of comments about the didymos (sling) that we showed them. so i just sang 'oh what a beuatiful morning' in my head as mil went on about how by the time i got it all tied in, the baby would be in hysterics, and how her middle son had hated being carried (but it turned out that was because he had really bad earache amongst many other health problems). I find it easier to ignore her and not get too wound up if i can sing something to myself - might have to try that for distracting myself during labour too.

so glad there is just an hour to go till 5.

Babylovesmuffins · 04/06/2007 16:15

Just checked and apparently I can give 28 days notice to change my maternity leave start date... Seriously considering it now - at least I could still finish work on 20th July but just take 2 weeks annual leave instead of 3 and bring the ML forward to 6th August Will speak to my director tomorrow - I guess all it means is me writing them another letter and they need to respond to that, confirming the new dates.

Will sleep on it!!

kiteflying · 04/06/2007 16:17

conker, that sounds like a great trick. I might use it the next time my mother casually quotes someone whose daughter says that someone else told her that women over thirty five usually need caesareans [grrr to insensitive mothers and mothers in law].

Anyway, you can leave the didymos on and slip baby in and out as required.

Anyone else due at the end of August leaving mid-way through? I have all year's annual leave to use but wanted some of it for a july week down on the coast (or on a narrow boat somewhere...).

It is the commute that is the worst. Maybe spending some serious taxi money in August might be on the agenda so as to be able to keep working.

Hersetta · 04/06/2007 16:23

Kite,

i am. Only planning to start ML a week before my due date (so 20th August). and will used 15 days Annual leave so won't officially start ML until after she is here (hopefully).

Work have been very good and said I can work at home in August and as much as I want to in July - will just see what the weather is like before i see who much I'll stay at home - an hour and a half commute each way is no fun in 32 degree heat yet alone when I'll be 7.5 months pregnant.

Babylovesmuffins · 04/06/2007 16:25

Hi Conkertree - poor you having to put up with the inlaws. They always know better, don't they! Grrrrr... My MIL has assured me that our baby's going to be late - absolutely no reason whatsoever - she just "knows" I'll be overdue...

Have you got one of those "V" shaped pillows - you know the ones you can use for feeding as well as support? I'd had really bad hip pain in bed and I'd tried putting a small cushion under my hip but it didn't make much difference. The V-pillow is much better - I put one end between my legs and the other end tucked under me in the "sort of hollow" between my ribs and my hips - if that makes sense (although there's not much hollow left!!). It just means I have a "tail" which amuses DH no end...

Annie75 · 04/06/2007 16:25

Hello August mummies Blimey, you've all been buying up the UK's stock of baby products since I was last online! Eek, 66 days to go and I've still only bought a second hand pram, a few clothes and a cute wooden trike thing (though completely useless for a while).

Just tried to catch up on everyone's news. Always nice to hear that everyone's okay - funny how you start to worry about people you've never met! Glad you finally got your pram, TT - v stylish - and that you had an unwindy holiday on the Welsh canals, Mrs B.

The wedding was lovely - completely chilled out though we still managed to be 20 mins late for it... It turned into a gorgeous sunny afternoon and we went for a long walk afterwards. Paris was excellent too - particularly the cakes and pastries

Had another scan today and was told the baby is growing well. Yay!
