read the metro article just now - might print off a copy and leave it around the office somewhere.

tokentotty · 31/05/2007 17:25

What article ??? I need this to decorate my desk for the boys to see....

OP posts:
kiteflying · 31/05/2007 17:42

Front page of the Metro - how stress affects your unborn baby from 17 weeks onwards. Fab news.

kiteflying · 31/05/2007 17:45

have been silly and bid on two car seats on ebay and there is a danger I might win both at the moment. Ooops.

Spent an hour looking at wedding dresses at lunchtime. Have not done that since we got engaged last February. Must be the three kilograms I have lost since coming back from Italy talking . Not convinced I will really ever be a size eight again though.

tokentotty · 31/05/2007 17:51

What are they Kite ?? I've not got one yet so you never know, if you do get stuck I might be interested.
Oooh talking of wedding dresses, wonder how Annie75's wedding went on Friday

One is a primo viaggio and base in Boston Check - which is the pattern I wanted in an M&P pram had we bought one. The other is a maxi cosi cabrio (minus the base) in deep red. Both are only six months old. Just that the cabrio is somewhere in Surrey and I will have to collect so that was a bit silly of me. Just looked so nice and red there on the flickering screen....

I thought you wre buying everything new TT? It is lovely of you to offer to help. I have no idea how to post pics. The cabrio is generally more popular with people who use it in a travel system but I will be sling/pram only.

kiteflying · 31/05/2007 18:42

Crisis averted. I was able to retract one bid.

bananabump · 31/05/2007 20:48

Hi all, just got back from first NHS antenatal class which wasn't too successful really... midwife was running late, so it only really lasted about half an hour or so, and it was ALL icebreaker! Must have been a nightmare for her.

The people in the group seemed nice, there were about 10 pregnant ladies and their supporters, they were all further along than me, one only had 3 weeks to go, so massive bumps all round.

Hopefully next week we'll get to actually talk about it all.

conkertree · 01/06/2007 09:06

gosh i was quite confused there with the car seat/wedding dress talk tokentotty and kiteflying - i thought tt was asking what kind of dresses, and kite was saying one was going to be in the same material as the pram she had been going to buy which sounded rather odd until i read the whole thing again.

aah its friday again. that means 7 weeks to go till work finishes for quite a few of us i think. great. just hope today doesnt drag.

anyone up to much at the weekend? we are staying at home for a change and doing the garden. dh laid some grass on monday when he was off and it looks fantastic - so much better than the slabs that were there before - so think we will get a bit more and finish it off. although think it might pour down - in which case the wii is sitting in our living room waiting to be played with.

tokentotty · 01/06/2007 09:44

Hahahahhahaah yes, can understand why you might think it slightly strange to accessorise your wedding dress to a baby's car seat Conker...!!
To be honest Kite I'm not fussed if thing's are new/ebayed/donated etc etc. I've got 10 weeks to go and have precisely nothing so am just keen to get anything sorted out really. Still, pram investigations this weekend. Is a start isn't it ?? Actually should be quite a nice weekend for us as we're off pram shopping and then into the West End for lunch at Rules before seeing a matinee show at 4pm. Would be ideal if it wasn't raining but I'll take whatever comes.

kiteflying · 01/06/2007 09:55

Happy Friday to all. Well, I missed out on the cabrio anyway but I can vouch for the fact that there are loads more available on ebay. I love conker's take on those emails -much more interesting than the real thing. Yes, I can just see myself strutting down the aisle in M&P Boston Check.

We have not planned anything for the weekend yet. If the sun comes out I am definitely going to try and talk DP into going walking with me somewhere flattish but green and out of London.

I would not worry too much about having bought nothing yet TT. You will probably find that buying the pram will be the catalyst for you and suddenly you will have filled a room with everything you thought you could do without. I recommend the internet for bargains but it is addictive (see previous comments about already starting to think about a wedding dress I will not need until sometime next year....)

Hersetta · 01/06/2007 10:04

Well I bought my cotbed yesterday - so that's another thing out the way with. I believe now I have all the major things. Pram, car seat, moses basket, cot, nursing chair and lots of clothes so not really too much to get apart from some bedding for the cot but no rush as we will be using the moses basket for a few weeks.

Weekend very quite for me. Have to tackle an ironing pile the size of the north face of the Igor, but DH is on the piss with friends on Saturday night so will hope to do most of it then whilst watching any dream will do - I know it's trash but Lee to win !! Might go out for Sunday lunch but that's it.

Tonight we are going to England vs Brazil with full hospitality package (champagne reception, 3 course meal, VIP guests etc) as my firm is one of the 3 main sponsors of the England team and so for this match they have invited lots of staff rather than stuffy bankers etc and yours truly was on the selected list. DH is very excited. Think I may even treat myself to a glass of champers - my favourite drink.

tokentotty · 01/06/2007 10:10

I know what you mean Kite about opening the floodgates on buying stuff. Although is a bit tricky for me as Peanut is nowhere even close to having a room to call his own yet. Eventually he'll have my old bedroom as a nursery but unfortunately it's still cunningly disguised as a garage. So unless we wedge a cot in there between the lawnmower and boxes of gardening stuff/paint pots, more tools than B&Q and some garden furniture I think he'll have to wait! The summerhouse that DH is building is not coming along very quickly due to having so many commitments on weekends and the appalling weather. Come to think of it, I'm not sure where I'm going to put anything !!

OP posts:
tokentotty · 01/06/2007 10:12

Oh Hersetta am sooooooooooooooooo jealous !! Obviously if anyone drops out and you need a very, very unstuffy banker to take along with you then feel free to call!! You'll have a fab night

And well done on the shopping so far. All encompassing and yet 'to the point' !

OP posts:
kiteflying · 01/06/2007 10:21

Well done, Hersetta - you can enjoy buying the little stuff between now and when baby arrives. Am very envious of your big Friday night out at Wembley. Hope you have a lovely time.

TT most of our stuff is stacked up in plastic storage tubs against one wall of our second bedroom and the big items are in the loft, so I am bit unsure about how to fit it all in our bedroom when the time comes as well. No nursery for a while for us either.

I think you will find that it will come together all in good time, although it must be funny looking into your baby's nursery and seeing nothing but DIY items! Your Peanut will be tiny and close to you for a while longer. Summerhouse plans do sound a bit daunting though.

Bananabump, how many NHS classes do you have lined up? If the first is an icebreaker and everyone else there is so much further along, I wonder what the agenda for the rest are? Do they not give you a programme?

Hersetta · 01/06/2007 10:36

You're on TT - it not like we're going to drink the bar dry!!!

Ooh - your DH sounds like he's going to be busy, and he's carrying an injury isn't he?

ooh forgot we need to get a chest of drawers as otherwise the clothes are staying in storage containers!
Got a few of the smaller things already like changing mats, nappies, muslins, nappy sacks, wipes, bottles, breast pads - not sure what I really need. Does anyone have a list of must haves?

tokentotty · 01/06/2007 10:51

Eeeeeeeeeeeeek Hersetta you're TOOOOOO organised !! You're making me look (and feel) terrible !! God, am really going to make a concerted effort these next few weeks and actually accept that within 3 months, come hell or high water I AM having a baby, and that baby needs STUFF !! I was quite good (for me) the other day and whilst in Sainsburys I did at least look at the nappy section.... which ones to buy though?

OP posts:
kiteflying · 01/06/2007 11:04

Yes TT how is your poor DH going to go getting your summerhouse up if he is injured? If you need the services of a reasonably priced builder with qualifications in carpentry to help out, you know where to look...

Afraid I still find nappies and the idea of dealing with poo several times a day rather horrifying. Right up there with expressing breast milk - those electric pumps are scary.
We had a big nappy chat on the last thread I think TT, but it was mostly about cloth (I am quite taken with my bamboo nappies). I have no idea about disposables except that you can get biodegradable ones from green baby I think.

Hersetta I had a list cut down from the back of a mothercare catalogue (pretty comprehensive if you can get one) and influenced by mumsnetters but I have not idea how to upload it. I was wondering about nappy sacks - is it just that nappies look better in them than in my plastic storage box?

I have bought no breastfeeding or other feeding stuff at all. It is up there with the hospital bag on my must do something soon or panic buy later.

Mrsshuvel · 01/06/2007 11:04

Hi Girls

Haven't been on for about a week, have felt absolutely drained. Took yesterday of as holiday to try and catch up on some sleep. Sleep has been a nightmare. Just can't get comfortable at all. Waking up every hour or so with heartburn or needing a trip to the loo or a dead arm / leg where i've squashed myself. Feel lots better today although had just managed to get comfortable and nod off last night and a bastard house alarm went off for about an hour!

Interesting to see everyone's views on the bucket baths. I really hated them when i saw them at first but am starting to sway. Will have to take anpther look.

Banana - Albie is the name we have chosen at the moment - how strange that you dreamt that particular name.

Hersetta - Where did you get your cotbed from? This is our next big decision. I want one with a drawer underneath to store baby's bedding as he will be in our room until we have a room for him. My brother is living in what would be the nursery.

Am going to Bluewater tomorrow as my friend found out she is having a little girl and wants to go mad buying frilly dresses so will be able to have a look at buket baths and cotbeds. Was thinking of buying one of those egg thermometers, a changing mat and other bits. I have plenty of clothes and have ordered by Bugaboo and Maxi Cosi car seat so just the other bis to get now.

Have to go to regent street on sunday to find a suit for DP for these weddings. Was so worried about what i was gonna wear, didn't realise that DP had grown a sympathy bump and there was no way his suit was ever going to fit!

Hersetta · 01/06/2007 11:09

I got everything at tescos to be honest. I have read that their nappies are as good as pampers but half the price so got a couple of packs, so after that it was easy to add wipes, nappy sacks, nappy cream, dummy, cotton wool, to my basket. My tesco's also has a big clothes dept so add a couple of packs of sleepsuits, vests, scratchmits (so cute - and only 75p for two pairs) and you're almost done! Muslins squares and changing mats I bought new on ebay as muslins were so expensive in mothercare i thought. I got a dozen for £7/8 - they were double the price in mothercare.

tokentotty · 01/06/2007 11:11

Hahahah laughing at MrsS's DH and his sympathy bump - mine has the same. Pointed out to him that it really is very, very common for the DHs of pregnant women to put a 'few' lbs on in sympathy but it hasn't made him feel better. As for the injuries, it's a bit of a dilemma. He needs surgery again as the bottom disc in his back has totally collapsed now so they have to put a spacer in and then fuse the vertebrates above and below it together. This needs six weeks recovery time so it's too late now to do it before Peanut comes along in case there's any problems with the surgery (last time he had a back op there was a 5% chance of it not working and guess what....) so it means waiting until after the baby. However he can't book anything until after I've delivered in case I have a c-section and need 6 weeks recovery myself ! Therefore, because of work as well he probably won't be able to have any leave when I first have the baby and just take it as part of the 6 weeks operation recovery time, whenever that happens.
Sorry, bit waffly - think all this is maybe getting me down a little more than I care to admit to be honest.

Kite,

Nappy sacks are just tie handle bags that you put nappy in and tie up to stop it smelling. i think you mean a nappy stacker which is for storing nappies and hanging on the edge of cot or changing unit - I bought one myself in fact.

Mrs S - I bought a cotbed with a drawer at the bottom as well!! A Tutti Bambini Jake cotbed through an ebay shop for £140 plus delivery and I then added a mamas and papas sprung mattress for a total of £210.
Search Tutti bambini Jake on ebay and you'll find them straight away - they are called begees and are delivering it on Tuesday.

kiteflying · 01/06/2007 11:21

TT that sounds just awful for him. Can you get a maternity nurse or some other help in case you have a csection? He must be very stoic to put up with that level of pain all the time.

Mrsshuvel nice to see you back and sorry you have been feeling exhausted. Must have been nice to have a catch up on sleep day. My whole bank holiday weekend was one of them.

Hersetta your Tescos sounds like somewhere to shop. I had a similar field day in H&M a while back but probably did not save nearly as much money (all those baby clothes...)

Hersetta · 01/06/2007 11:21

Gosh looking at my box of tricks I've got more than I thought! Got baby monitor, sterilizer, room thermometer, cot mobile, baby thermometer, bouncer, activity gym, bath seat. Guess I have gone a bit mad !

tokentotty · 01/06/2007 11:23

I repeat - EEEEEEEEEEEEEEK !!

H.....you erm...er...wanna go into a new career field of personal baby shopping for me ??
