Hellooooo !!

Mrsshuvel · 01/06/2007 11:24

Oh i feel for you TT, sounds like you have an awful lot on your plate. Do you have family who can support you at all?

Thanks Hersetta will definitely take a look.

Mrsshuvel · 01/06/2007 11:25

Baby monitors - forgot about those! Any suggestions anyone?

myweegirl · 01/06/2007 11:32

hi everyone - not had time to catch up with all the posts. hope you are all well

mrsshuvel - don't get a baby monitor where the parent unit beeps if the nursery is over a certain temperature - i've got one of them and it drove me mad last year. i couldn't cool the room down anymore DD was asleep with mimimum clothing on, no blankets etc.

Mrsshuvel · 01/06/2007 11:33

It was lovely Kite. Just makes me want to take my maternity leave now. Not sure if i can do full 5 day weeks for much longer. May have to look at using some holiday for a shorter week.

tokentotty · 01/06/2007 11:36

Thanks MrsS. Unfortunately I don't have any family (well, have a brother who is lovely but is about as much use at anything as something that isn't at lot of use ) although my out-laws are lovely it's just not 'my' family iyswim? Often find them just that bit much and disagree with a lot of their ways. Am sure that'll change once I've got a baby though ? Still, either way we'll survive and all will be fine. Have wonderful, lovely friends and people survive in much worse scenarios than me !

I haven't got a baby monitor (small house, don't think I need one) bath thermometer or cot mobile yet, plus still have to get maternity pads, lansinoh, and other bits and pieces for my hospital bag.

I need to get a move on actually, one of the ladies in my antenatal class has already been in premature labour (they managed to stop it but she could go at any time)

Kiteflying: yeah, it is supposed to be a 4wk course, some of them are due in 3wks, so the midwife said she'd give them a tour of the labour ward etc next week. I bet some of them might miss a class or two though!

jem1969 · 01/06/2007 11:38

Hersetta- you'll have nothing left for people to buy you as presents!
I've ordered the pram and car seat and decided on cot, changer and wardrobe and that's it! No clothes, thermometers or anything like that although I have been pouring over the numerous catalogues littering up the house. (Less easy to get carried away when you don't know what you're having I think). Think will buy 0-3 clothes as friends 10 day old DS has already grown out of 'newborn' size. M&S surprisingly cheap so may go there as can easily take back unused stuff! Shopping with Mum next weekend so sure will start buying stuff then.(She keeps eyeing up stuff in TK MAxx- having never heard of it until about 6 months ago she is now an addict). Will also be 30 weeks by then which is a significant milestone I think.

I'm looking forward to having a weekend at home after being away lots. Decorator is starting on Monday so will have to empty all my rubbish out of the baby's future room in between choosing and buying paint and dragging DH away from the rugby on TV. Also tomorrow morning there is a meeting for new local NCT members- not sure what that will be like.

Hersetta-Have fab time tonight at your corporate do.

Hope everyone has nice relaxing weekends and manages to get lots of sleep. My LO seems to think he/she is a footballer at the moment- did not stop kicking all day yesterday so might cut down on the chocolate to get a quieter weekend!

Hersetta · 01/06/2007 11:57

Mrs S - I went for a BT one as it good good reviews on amazon - didn't go for the plus super version as it did have that alarm that went off if the room was too warm - not much you can do with an August baby really.

We haven't got that many people to buy for us really - work will probably give mothercare or John Lewis Vouchers which i'll use for a Maclaren Techno XT after a year or so, apart from that we've already had money from parents to buy pram and cot so it's just friends really who I presume will buy clothes or toys. haven't bought and toys - apart from a soft bunny from mamas and papas as every little girl should have a bunny.

tokentotty · 01/06/2007 12:06

Awww....must really be feeling down today as almost had a tear in my eye at "every little girl should have a bunny" !! Too cute x

Hersetta. That's rearly true really about friends buying clothes, small toys etc. Can't really see anyone buying muslins and thermometers really! I think I'll just leave the boucer, play mat etc off my shopping list in case I get some vouchers from work. MIL is giving us money to pay for cot etc and parents are buying the pram although bit of negotiation to do on that one having gone for the bugaboo...
I think I haven't bought much because I have been so paranoid about getting everything and then something going wrong but really should now. Planning on doing the bits and bobs in my maternity leave I suppose (all the exciting things like nipple pads etc).

Is anyone getting a 'glider chair'??

Hersetta · 01/06/2007 12:43

I got a recliner glider chair - on offer on Kiddicare. Very comfy - can see myself falling asleep in it after 3am feeds.

jem1969 · 01/06/2007 12:44

apologies for shocking spelling in last message!

jem1969 · 01/06/2007 12:47

Did you get a Duailier or whatever they're called or a cheaper one? I think if I'm going to get one I should get it sooner rather than later as apparently they're v comfy when pg too and my TV viewing is currently being severely disrupted by not being able to get comfy!
I'm for Lee to be Joseph too BTW!

Hersetta · 01/06/2007 12:50

I got a Hauck one - the others were far too expensive.

here's the one I got.

jem1969 · 01/06/2007 12:57

Thanks
I was looking at that very one the other day

tokentotty · 01/06/2007 13:06

God that looks a real bargain H. You guys are great motivators. I really just want to go out now and buy muslins and nappies and STUFF !!

OP posts:
Mrsshuvel · 01/06/2007 13:07

Thanks for the advice on monitors, definitely won't be getting a beeping one.

I got a Duialier (sp?) chair and footstool from ebay for £150. Only 6 months old. The lady had all the cover dry cleaned for me. Its very comfy and i highly recommend.

Babylovesmuffins · 01/06/2007 13:10

Oh b*gger!! Just caught up on this morning's posts and realising how much I need to get still.

I feel a shopping spree coming on!!

tokentotty · 01/06/2007 13:19

hahahah BLM - not just me who's a bit behind then ??

OP posts:
Babylovesmuffins · 01/06/2007 13:28

Erm...no! You're not alone TT. Think we may purchase a travel system this weekend, as for once we don't have any plans - bliss!!

Anyone else superstitious about having the pram/cot in the house before the baby arrives?? I guess we won't really use the cot much for the first few months anyway. I'm not really that superstitious (although I do salute at magpies - especially at the moment )

TT I think I might start a list of things I need to buy (based on Hersetta's purchases!! ) - if you don't mind, Hersetta??!!

Mrsshuvel · 01/06/2007 13:29

Sorry should have said DP highly recommends chair as he has spent more time in it than me.

Mrsshuvel · 01/06/2007 13:31

I'm with you on the magpies, even have to say good morning / afternoon / evening Mr magpie how's your wife and children. Not sure where i picked that up from, how do i know it's a Mr and even has any children either??? Not worried about the pram or cot though.

jem1969 · 01/06/2007 13:35

Not worried about the cot and pram being in the house but have def decided to end work on Thursday 12th July rather than Friday 13th (Less than 6 weeks- yippee!)

Hersetta · 01/06/2007 13:40

No go ahead. to be honest I didn't expect to be this far ahead of everyone - just paranoid I guess in case she decides to put in an early appearance and i have nothing ready.

To be honest I got almost all of my stuff from either Amazon, kiddicare, ebay or tesco. i love internet shopping !!

tokentotty · 01/06/2007 13:40

Hahahahah laughing about DH and the chair MrsS - sounds just typical to me .
I say all that nonsense to magpies too, and also don't feel superstitious about having pram/cot etc in the house prior to Peanut arriving, just not sure I can go through all the grief from MIL about it if I don't let them have it at their house....
