Hellooooo !!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jem1969 · 30/05/2007 15:35

conkertree
Onl;y takesa bout half an hour for the pregnancy CD. Not sure if the birth preparation one is longer. I only know most of it off by heart because when we were on holiday DH would go off and climb a mountain most mornings and I would take to my bed and listen to the CD-it was nice to have an excuse not to be dragged out...

GillL · 30/05/2007 15:55

Thanks babylovesmuffins. Regarding what to buy/what not to buy - I thought the baby bath was a waste of money (and took up too much space) and I never used the top and tail bowl or bath box. I would recommend getting a baby support seat for your bath. I'm sure I've seen a couple of threads along these lines but it might be worth creating a new one on the pregnancy section. I'm sure you'll get loads of good tips. I'll let you know if I think of anything else though.

loler · 30/05/2007 16:13

I agree with the baby bath - although we use ours as a paddling pool (just the right size!). I ended up using a washing up bowl (make sure it's a square one) for the first few weeks. Not too big so can carry it around full, can use it on a table and it seems to be the right size so that the squirmy slippery baby can't get away!

I can't wait to get on with sorting stuff out - our moving date is likely to be 20 June. Seems to have dragged on forever and don't feel like I can order anything until we move. DDs birthday a couple of days before (she keeps asking for a pirate party - fat chance!) and we go to cornwall for a week a couple of days after (7 hours in a car with 2 kids and the dog!). How much stress can I take in a week! Must get one of those CDs for the drive down - can throw it at someone if it doesn't work on me!

jem1969 · 30/05/2007 16:27

Ooh-not sure what to do re baby bath (hardly the biggest decision I know). Some friends swear by theirs. All our sinks are too small with awkward taps and I'd have to buy a washing up bowl anyway as don't have one. Bath is v deep and I think it would kill me to usem it in early days. I'll probably end up getting one of those ridiculous matching sets for £30 instead of a £4.99 one from tesco or something.

Babylovesmuffins · 30/05/2007 17:13

On the subject of baths, I think we're going to borrow one from a friend... but has anyone seen this?? www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B000IVSQZ2/sr=1-18/qid=1180541459/ref=sr_1_18/026-7560684-2135616?ie=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=42855041&mcb=core

DH and I were in fits when we saw this in Mothercare!! Sorry if anyone has one but we just thought it looked hilarious!

bananabump · 30/05/2007 18:29

Those tummy tubs look cute, according to the reviews I've read online babies do like them because they can sit up and feel more secure than being dunked virtually horizontally into lukewarm water, but I don't know how a newborn would feel shovelled into one. What about their floppy necks?

Also, I think a smallish bucket would do the job if you checked there were no plastic "seams" that could hurt their poor bums! £20 for a bucket with a round base seems a tad pricey to me, especially as you can get baby baths in places like tesco or ikea for a couple of quid.

loler · 30/05/2007 19:29

I'm very much for the gimmick! Have been trying to get one on ebay as DH won't let me spend £20 on a bucket! They are going for about £12 with postage though and I don't want to pay that for a second hand bucket!

tokentotty · 31/05/2007 09:16

Oh don't knock the tummy tub !!! My best friend had one for her daughter and believe me, I laughed like a drain when I saw it "But Bon, it's a frickin' bucket - I cannot believe you're putting MY god daughter in a bucket" etc etc... But I tell you what, she loved it, and I mean completely and utterly loved it. Have pics at home of her in it and I think it gives them their first experience of some independence as it supports them without anyone else involved. That's definitely on my to buy list !

kiteflying · 31/05/2007 09:27

I really want one of these as well! Am sure my LO will take after me in the love of the bath. I saw them demonstrated on the babychannel (please don't laugh at me for watching this!) and the baby was extremely happy despite all the cameras.
I have put it on my baby wish list for generous gift givers to consider but have been scouting ebay as well.
I am really trying to stop myself buying any more maternity clothes and baby clothes now.
TT are you feeling any better? Are you back at work?

Hope everyone is well. I was home with a bug yesterday and managed to trip down my stairs in slippers and gave myself a fright. Luckily landed on some soft cushiony buttocks (ouch-y today) instead of on my bump but wrenched my shoulder badly trying to break my fall. Felt very stupid and fragile afterwards but baby kicked away all afternoon to reassure me.

tokentotty · 31/05/2007 09:45

ooh Kite, that fall sounds bad. Why is it that when we're at our most delicate and fragile we're made so damned clumsy ???
Unfortunately am still feeling shocking although am in the office today but desperately wishing I wasn't....
Honestly though, go for it on the tub. Will try and post a photo of her in it on my profile if my home computer ever works again.

OP posts:
kiteflying · 31/05/2007 10:55

TT, be good to yourself. If you still feel awful by lunchtime you should probably go home again if work has not piled up too much.

tokentotty · 31/05/2007 11:12

Yeah I know....am just trying to assail the west face of the current pile in front of me. Tch...work is just so inconvenient at the moment. Am not comfortable at my desk either which doesn't help.

OP posts:
kiteflying · 31/05/2007 11:30

TT, I have changed chair three times in the past month and just cannot get comfortable. If I was not already self conscious in the office I would seriously consider bringing in my ball to bounce on every so often.

Maybe as you are in a slightly more supportive environment you could try this.

Any movement on the pushchair purchases, TT, other ladies? I am wanting to enjoy the thrill of the chase vicariously through you all...

bananabump · 31/05/2007 11:32

Oh god, it's started.....

I am SO BORED of being pregnant.

The heartburn, the trouble sleeping, the slowly failing bladder control, the lack of clothes which actually FIT, not being able to sleep on my front or back, or jump on my dp when I feel like it. The time is dragging so much now.

Sorry for the big whinge, I know there's only 9 weeks left but I'm getting so fed up!

In other news, quite excited about starting antenatal classes tonight but have no idea what to expect! Hope there are some nice folk there and it's fun. And is anone else on the thread watching Big Brother? I am mainly because I think it'll help things go faster. By the end of the series we'll all have our babies! Whee!

TT, I can't believe you're still feeling ill, you poor thing! Hope you feel better soon, don't work too hard.

jem1969 · 31/05/2007 11:38

Taped BB so will watch it quickly this evening before DH gets home- although with all girls in it I'm surprised he doesn't want to watch it...
Watched the Apprentice instead- nearly fell off the sofa laughing

tokentotty · 31/05/2007 11:41

Oh banana !!! I'm so sorry to hear that it's all getting to you love. I feel like that at the moment but think it's more this infernal cold that refuses to leave me. My discomfort is the fact that Peanut is already head down and bottom up (which I will obviously be immensely grateful for come delivery time) but currently means that I have a bottom and feet resting on my ribs. Therefore, when sitting in any way other than leaning back I'm squashing him and its super uncomfortable. Thus when trying to work at a computer I have to have my keyboard right at the edge of my desk, meaning that anything I'm trying to read is in front of it and I can't read the figures without leaning forward etc etc... Bah humbug basically ! Still, four weeks left here maximum. I'd love to bring one of the yoga balls in to sit on but like you Kite, my overwhelming fear of falling off and ending up on my back on the floor like a beetle, unable to get myself up while the rest of my (all male) desk lost control of their 'pelvic floors' around me....

Am not a Big Brother watcher I'm afraid, although having said that I did watch one series the other year as I woke up on my birthday (28th June, the day I pack up work this year !!) with chicken pox... Therefore was b*gger all else on so am concerned that the same might happen this year as I'll be at home over the same period.

OP posts:
bananabump · 31/05/2007 12:07

hehe, sorry for moaning, it's not so bad really is it, it's just uncomfortable...not too long to go though. There is light at the end of the tunnel!

er...so to speak.

tokentotty · 31/05/2007 12:10

Nonsense love - you go ahead and moan. I will!!! Am starting to struggle with this feeling of being squashed up all the time and am sure it isn't the last thing that'll make me uncomfortable now there's ten weeks to go !!

OP posts:
kiteflying · 31/05/2007 12:15

I know I am a few weeks behind both of you but I am loving being pregnant. I love feeling my baby moving inside me. Love having a bump at the front. Love how it makes us feel as a couple - parents in waiting! Want to do it again as soon as possible...

And I had morning sickness for nearly six months so go figure

Hersetta · 31/05/2007 12:17

back to the bucket thing. My SIL had one for my nephew and said he absolutely loved it - will ask if I can borrow it for our LO I think.

Had midwife appointment this morning and all is OK - she also told me that I'm not having a GTT next week as I had thought, just my regular 28 week bloods. I have to do a glucose challenge test (drink 265mls of lucosade an hour before my bloods) but it's not the GTT so no fasting required. She told me to cut out chocolate and sweet things for a couple of days before the test (boo) so they don't throw off the results.

As I have the pram thing sorted now I'm on a quest for a cotbed. Seen the one I like, but haven't got round to ordering it yet. Will probably change my mind if I dither about it too long, just like we did with our preferred name choice. We had 'decided' on a name a while ago but whilst on holiday it became a non runner and we now have a new first choice - hope we don't det bored of that as well in the next 12 weeks!!

bananabump · 31/05/2007 12:18

Aaw, but that's nice though! And you deserve to feel that happy, I can't even imagine having ms for that long you poor thing!

tokentotty · 31/05/2007 12:19

Oh Kite....what a lovely, lovely thing to write. Must admit to having got into a mini-routine while I was off sick last week which involved dropping DH to the station at about 7am (can't bear him hobbling down there like the elephant man with all his poorly legs/back etc) then home for a cup of tea and biscuits in bed. After that, pull my pyjama vest up and watch Peanut have a big old kick about !! Showed DH one evening and he said "You're just never going to get bored of that are you honey - it's lovely". He was right... everytime I feel it happening, out comes my big belly to watch it!

OP posts:
tokentotty · 31/05/2007 12:20

Go for it H !! We'll be the bucket gang ! So, are you going to tell us your new name?

OP posts:
Hersetta · 31/05/2007 12:32

Well we had decided on Hannah, but we have now changed and chosen Caitlin instead. Your the first to know as we're not telling anyone in RL until she arrives.

jem1969 · 31/05/2007 12:45

Maybe I'll get a bucket too! I got carried away on ebay and started bidding on some fancy fisher price bath that I decided I wanted then realised yesterday it was ridiculous. Luckily I've just been outbid- phew!
Have to admit I'm verging between the loving being pregnant and the feeling very uncomfortable especially in the evening- just can't get comfy.
Hannah is in our top 3 but Caitlin is lovely too.
Glad you're feeling marginally better TT.
Finally decided on cot etc yesterday. Now just have to decide on a paint colour before the painetr starts on Monday!
