Hi All - sorry hope you don't mind me starting a new thread but my laptop won;t let me put a message on the other one - I think cause it is so long!!

Anyway glad you are all ok - Pandabear - think it is quite common for you not to feel baby if you are active all day - if I have a really busy day I get worried and then I sit and relax and he goes into overdrive - its grosse sometimes like I have an alien inside my belly!!

Have midwife appointment today just routine but am going to ask if she thinks baby will be huge - everyone on hols acted like I was ready to give birth and were stunned when I told them I had 14 weeks left but then again the BA lady asked if I were pregnant when we checked in and all the mumsnetters I saw at last meet up did not tthink I was huge!! I haven't put on anything other than my big bump and inflated boobs though so thats a relief so far!!

Sam if you still have the UTI try to drink as much as you can - cranberry juice or flat lemonade are supposed to work well.

Tonic water is still keeping the reflux under control to an extent and other than clicky hips and being sooooo bloody hot all is ok inthe Twinkie Pregnancy so far.

I'ìve got to post short messages as pc keeps crachins and have been unable to post anything for 2 weeks, wrote 2 long messages (one for Collision) and never managed to post them!

webmum · 04/10/2004 14:08

for Collision

Being Italian, I really feel for you, and also feel a bit guiltya bout the italian system, they tend to forget the mother's dignity, and only have the baby's health in mind (which is a good thing, b ut the 2 could be combined together!!).

They say the are for natural births, but most of my friends end up ahving c sections (and most of teh time just as a precaution), people are not usually allowed to labour for long hours, if you dont have a straightforward labour in you go for a c/s. So it's a bit of a contradiction really...obviously things avry from hospital to hospital, and my experience is limited to the local one where all my friends and family live.

Mum2Ela · 04/10/2004 14:18

Poor you Bunny. . I started bleeding at 35 weeks with DD and was taken into hospital. After an internal showed I was started to dilate I had to stay in hospital on bed rest for a week to stop me dilating further. Was sick to death of hospital by day 5 so moaned enough til they sent me home. DD was born 3 days later at 36 weeks. She was fine and a healthy 6lb 6oz. So try and keep that baby in for a few more weeks, take it a bit easier if you can, I think it helps.

x

bunny2 · 04/10/2004 20:13

Thanks for all your kind messages. I havent had any bleeding since Saturday evening so am feeling nice and calm again. M2E, if I can get to 36 weeks, I'll be happy. 6.6 was a brilliant size for your dd!

Am I the only one who is uncomfortable all the time? I cant remember it being this bad with ds, I am finding everything is such an enormous effort and the only place I find some respite is in the swimming pool.

vivie · 04/10/2004 20:54

sorry to hear about your scare bunny2. You've not has the easiest pregnancy and I hope it's smooth going from now on. Not long to go now...

eidsvold · 04/10/2004 23:00

no bunny I am uncomfortable - even asked the doc to check again as I feel so huge and ungainly - she said I was spot on in terms of size for my dates......

It has been the warmest winter here since we arrived and it is up to high 20's and low 30's already .. hate to think what summer will be like.

Bought dd a wading pool for christmas - think it will be coming out sooner!!!!

Have my second hospital visit today - going to demand to see a consultant - if I can't see my named one - do not want to waste time waiting only to get a silly registrar like I had last time.

Feeling confident about a VBAC ......

anyone else having painful braxton hicks - I did not feel any with dd - but I seem to get one or two painful ones a day now that almost take my breath away.

Not long now - who is due first - can't remember... I have less than 5 weeks til my due date but I am sure there are others due before me ( 5 Nov)

gingernut · 04/10/2004 23:04

bunny, glad to hear everything has calmed down after your scare. Did they have any idea what was causing the bleeding? I feel uncomfortable all the time too, but I do remember feeling this awful last time. However, I think this baby might be a bit bigger than ds because I feel so FULL!! He is already digging me in the ribs.

I had a physiotherapy appointment last week and they gave me an industrial strength belt to support my back and pelvis. However, since I've been using it things have got much worse. I don't know if it's just a coincidence though. I am really trying to take it easy (easier said than done though) and have been better today. ds wasn't very impressed though, he wanted me to chase him round the garden! I feel so guilty because I can't do so much with him, but at least it's only a few more weeks now.

Bronze, I too am very jealous of these folks that hardly put on any weight....at last weighing I was nearly 2 stone up (which is a lot from a starting point of just over 7.5 stone...no wonder my pelvis is cracking under the strain!). I just seem to pile on the pounds. Not due till around 25th Nov so still quite a while to go as well!

eidsvold · 05/10/2004 07:05

RANT ALERT!!

just back from the hospital after seeing the consultant and I get the feeling that I am going to end up with a caesar despite not wanting one and at this point in time not needing one.

Did not see my named consultant but another who lectured me like I was 12 and from his reckoning caesar rates at this hospital are very high!!!!
He claims even with nothing wrong etc I have a 25% chance of having a caesar!!!!

On the plus side - they are sending me for another scan and I have that in the next week sometime - have to wait for an appt as they are all booked out!! Have another appt to see the Doc next week - hopefully it is MY named consultant and we can get through this....

was a little dismayed when I asked how the monitoring would be - constant was his reply - to which I said that would limit my mobility ( a very important factor in helping this VBAC) imagine my surprise when he turned to me and said I could not have everything you know!!!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! rant over....

hope you are all well - send me a little bit of your cooler weather - over 30 degrees today!!! and very muggy!!!

bunny2 · 05/10/2004 08:41

eidsvold, sorry you are not getting the understanding you want. your consultant sounds very dismissive, why dont they listen to US? Still, a 255 chance of a c-section means a 75% chance of a VBAC so those odds dont sound too bad.

I hope you can get some respite from the heat, it sounds awful. Get in your dds pool and wallow.

gingernut, sorry you are also feeling cr*p. Doesnt the end of November seem so far away?

collision · 05/10/2004 22:46

Oh Bunny....What an awful time you are having. When I moan I do think about you having a worse time than me......but I am SO uncomfortable!! I cant move in bed and turn over and I keep waking DH up shouting about child birth! We are due on the same day I think so we still have 7 weeks to go. Am excited and scared at the same time!! Keep smiling everyone and then we can all change threads and moan about BFing!!!!!!

Twinkie · 06/10/2004 09:04

Ooohhh hello all nothing to report really - nothing quite as ba as all of you anyway.

Bunny glad to see that you are feeling better and the bleeding has stopped, eidsvold cannot believe how unhelpful the doctors are over there!! And Gingernut - I feel like I am about to pop - everything is a chore even breathing sometims especially when the little man sticks his foot up under my ribs!!

Off to see midwife again today - she is lovely but convinced that I would be great with a home birth whereas I just don't want to go there at all!! Off to see Maternity Unit too next week to make sure it is not as the TV programme said the filthiest most NRSA ridden hospital in the land!!and I turn 30 so will be having a couple of glasses of wine and a day of work then only another week till I give it up completely!!

HOORAH - Hope you all feel ok today (Yes who is first I am not due till the 13/14 so sure ot not me!! - although wouldnt mind it coming at the end of October!!)

Bronze · 06/10/2004 13:46

oooh thanks for that. My dates right though I wish it was sooner. Am dreading ds1s reaction to ds2 though.
eidsvold - could you not just tell them to get lost if they want to do something you dont want. Surely we women have overall control of our bodies hen it comes down to it.
Glad things are ok Bunny and sympathy on the weight/ back pain gingernut. Out of us 25thers I sooooo want to be the first. The girl over the road gave birth on friday 4 weeks early which has just made it seem even longer til I get the chance. At least when she was only four weeks before me we could winge together and then it would have only been four weeks grr.
Of us lot due around the 25t mark whos is their first baby?

oh does anyone know when its ok to start with the raspberry leaf... i cant rememember. ta

b

gingernut · 06/10/2004 13:59

Hi all. Feeling not so bad today - I have bad days and better days, but I do like to come on here for a whinge!

eidsvold, I was jellycat on that list and due date is now 25th (FWIW!).

Bronze, Flossam (previously Samcj) is expecting her first, and I think this is PotPourri's first too. I think most of the rest of us are having our second babies. I'm certainly not expecting this baby to arrive early. ds was 6 days late. It is possible I'll have an elective cs though, in which case I may have it a little before the due date (I'm going for a growth scan at 36 weeks to discuss options). The reason for this is that they think my long and difficult labour with ds was probably due to his head being on the verge of being too large for my pelvis (consequently head was not engaged properly and so my cervix dilated very slowly and then head didn't descend once cervix was dilated, so after 4.5 hours fully dilated (according to notes - I don't really remember this bit!) they did a ventouse). At 20 week scan, this baby looked considerably larger (head at top of scale!!!). I don't really want a section but also don't want a long and exhausting labour culminating in an emergency cs either.

Twinkie, Happy Birthday for whenever it is!

bunny2 · 06/10/2004 19:25

Yes, #2 for me. Cant wait.

Twinkie, happy birthday for next week.

Bronze, I have read differing advice re raspberry leaf tea - I think it is ok from 32 wks, must remember to buy some tomorrow. There is a thread on it somewhere.

Get in that water eidsvold!!!

My bump seems to have dropped, has anyone elses?

eidsvold · 06/10/2004 22:21

no head drop for me - when I saw the GP on Monday she said the little one was still wriggling away up there although I am sure the baby goes up and down as it wants cause my bump feels different during the day.

raspberry leaf tea is for?????

Bronze - a girl I worked with in the UK was due the week before me and she had her little one in Sept about 7 weeks early..... made me a little envious although being that early... however everything is fine with him and he is already home. Have a friend who is due the start of the week that I am due ( at the end) she has not gone yet.

Just waiting for the hospital to call with a scan time.... know I am having one between now and next Tuesday - might even ask if they can see the sex of the baby

How are we for names?? Think dh and I have finally agreed on names - one for boy and one for girl - strangely this time - easy to pick a boys name but struggled with a middle name for a girl.... last time we had dd's name right off almost and could not agree on a boys name - luckily for her she was a girl.

eidsvold · 07/10/2004 06:11

just got a date - scan Tues morning - bit of a pain - hospital is about an hour away - so drive in there in the morning - have scan , then think I will drive to my mum's - only about 30 mins from hospital and then leave dd there for the afternoon while I have a consultant appt and then hospital tour and then last antenatal class....

a bit disappointed as next week is Down syndrome awareness week here and dd and I were to attend a lovely morning tea held by a state mp - very supportive of the DSAQ and to meet mum's in my area - now I have to go to the hospital. I know the scan is important but I just wanted to have a little moan ........

Mum2Ela · 07/10/2004 08:57

Happy Birthday Twinkie for next week!

Had antenatel yesterday and mw pretty sure baby is still breech (little monkey!) so I am booked in for a scan monday to confirm the position and to talk through my 'options' with the consultant (ie. they, being docs, will prob want to cut me open ).

Eidsvold - I am sure they make appointments at the most inconvenient times just to annoy us!

Raspberry leaf tea 'ripens' the uterus for labour. I think it shouldn't be drunk before 36 wks due to risk of prem labour.

gingernut · 07/10/2004 11:17

Oh eidsvold, how annoying for you. The scan is important but so are opportunities to make contacts. I'd be fed up too!

bunny, I'm not sure about the bump dropping. Some days I feel as though the baby's head is quite low in my pelvis and then it seems to pop out again. A friend who had a baby earlier in the year said she felt the same, for several weeks before the due date. I wondered if it's because we are a bit more stretched down there than we were first time !

M2E, some consultants would let you try for a vaginal breech delivery, but not many. OTOH, some hospitals will attempt to turn the baby although of course he could turn back again. A friend of mine had this done but the baby turned back, so she went in to have it done again 4 days before due date and once he'd been turned she was induced straight away. She then had a straightforward labour with vaginal delivery so it can be done. How many weeks are you now?

We have pretty much decided on a first name but have no ideas yet for a middle name, although TBH we haven't discussed it much. Last time we had 3 boy's names on the list and we used 2 for ds. The other is to be this one's first name. So I'm going to have to work on dh over a middle name (I had a long list last time, he rejected all but 3 hence the list with 3 names). We had plenty of girl's names lined up, sod's law eh?

chicaguapa · 07/10/2004 16:11

Haven't posted a message for ages as have been so busy with dd and this pregnancy seems to have flown!

My edd changed following my dating scan to 6/11 so still in same position on the due date list just a few days earlier.

Spent all morning in maternity as have been showing signs of prem labour but turns out probably just a virus no-one else in the family has got.

Got a shock re the baby's size though. I have very tiny bump which measures 33cm @ 35+5 so was sent for a scan today. Turns out that the baby is measuring between 38-39wks! Dd was 8lb 10oz so don't know why I was expecting this one to be small! Just because the bump is so neat I suppose! Ho hum!

collision · 07/10/2004 19:20

Bit fed up today. Have 7 weeks to go and the dr told us that I am too anaemic to give birth ATM and have to build up my iron. Has totally freaked me out as ds was 5 weeks early. Having said that I am not showing any signs of pre eclampsia which I had with ds and the dr said that there was time to build up my iron and so I am having chickpea soup for dinner and steak for lunch tomorrow!

Feel like I have neglected this PG a bit as I am in Italy and feel a bit out of my depth as I dont speak Italian and DH has had to be the one to sort it all out. He now feels guilty but is sort of blaming me and saying how moody I have been and that he doesnt know what to do with me. Am now on iron tablets and have to take more folic acid too.

Moan over.

Quackers · 07/10/2004 21:56

Buuny,I found the last few weeks the most worrying, it;s natural to think something will go wrong given your hsistory. I was back and to in hospital with all sorts desperate for induction. You will get there and with hindsight I was just panicking. Hang in there mate. It will be worth every minute of worry!!xxx
Good luck to you all!

chicaguapa · 07/10/2004 22:01

I had my antenatal care with dd in Barcelona and they were obsessed with iron supplements and saying I was anaemic! That's the continent for you! This time round in the UK, my Hb was slightly low but I've been told supplements aren't necessary and just to try and incorporate iron in my diet. They can't stop you from giving birth if your blood count isn't high enough!

eidsvold · 08/10/2004 12:34

anyone else having moments of anger/rage.... today I seem to have no patience with anything... dd was in a grizzly mood, it was 34 degrees and I am fat and fed up..... Little things got me so wound up... am fine now and was fine after lunch - no idea why ..... I put it down to the hormones.....

Twinkie · 08/10/2004 12:46

God I am your royal rageness - man on train pissed me off - he smelt of smoke (not sure if the smell makes me gag ro I am remembering fondly that I used to smoke - although won't again if it makes you stink like he did!!), then stupid woman in front of me put some boom boom boom music on her walkman and sat there nodding her head to the beat - which I could have also done consdiering the word Personal in Personal Stereo had escaped her notice. Then woman on bus kept staring at me like I was Sigourny f'ing Weaver in Alien - I just have a huge belly the alien has not started to pop out of it yet and now I am really cross because I want some ice yet I don't think I can be aresed to walk up the road and get some!!
