Hi All - sorry hope you don't mind me starting a new thread but my laptop won;t let me put a message on the other one - I think cause it is so long!!

Anyway glad you are all ok - Pandabear - think it is quite common for you not to feel baby if you are active all day - if I have a really busy day I get worried and then I sit and relax and he goes into overdrive - its grosse sometimes like I have an alien inside my belly!!

Have midwife appointment today just routine but am going to ask if she thinks baby will be huge - everyone on hols acted like I was ready to give birth and were stunned when I told them I had 14 weeks left but then again the BA lady asked if I were pregnant when we checked in and all the mumsnetters I saw at last meet up did not tthink I was huge!! I haven't put on anything other than my big bump and inflated boobs though so thats a relief so far!!

Sam if you still have the UTI try to drink as much as you can - cranberry juice or flat lemonade are supposed to work well.

Tonic water is still keeping the reflux under control to an extent and other than clicky hips and being sooooo bloody hot all is ok inthe Twinkie Pregnancy so far.

Mum2Ela · 02/09/2004 08:35

Flossam - what job do you do, if you don't mind me asking?

I finish work a week tomorrow :). A whole year off! (not like I work very hard anyway, only 2 days a week!!

I had a letter from my surgery yesterday, they have to repeat my blood test because of low platelets and they have to do a liver function test (?whats that?) so am not a happy bunny. :(

gingernut · 02/09/2004 14:19

Mum2Ela, sorry to hear about having to repeat the blood tests. I have done a quick google and they could be worried about something called HELLP syndrome, see here . It's just that low platelets and abnormal liver function can indicate HELLP, but low platelet count alone is fairly common in pg and not necessarily anything to worry about. Re the anti-D you were given after your dd's birth, the hospital should have checked your dd's blood group to see if you needed the anti-D (which you wouldn't if she was Rh neg). They are also supposed to do a test called the Kliehauer (sp?) test to see how much of the baby's blood has entered your blood system, so they can calculate how much anti-D to give you. Apparently they don't always bother with this test and just give a standard dose (unfortunately this means some women don't get enough and postnatal prophylaxis fails). I'm not sure how long it takes to do those tests but they didn't come back to me saying I needed anti-D after ds's birth for a couple of days. So I'm a bit surprised you were given it so promptly.....hmmmmm! Bet you are looking forward to finishing work. Will your dd carry on going to nursery/childminder while you are on maternity leave?

Sam, I definitely couldn't cope with your job at the moment! When are you giving up work? My pelvic pain is not so bad if I am careful, but I'm always aware of it. I've made an appointment with my GP for Monday.

PandaBear, I tried the going on all fours thing to turn over in bed, and it's so much better - thank you!

I didn't go to have my anti-D this morning...went and had my hair cut and did some Christmas shopping instead! (ds is in nursery today). A lady in M&S, who had a little girl with her, saw me waddling along and said Make the most of the freedom'! So I told her it was my second and she laughed and said Oh, you know all about it then'. I can go for the anti-D next week if I change my mind (they have a drop-in clinic at the hospital where I can have it done).

Mum2Ela · 02/09/2004 14:48

Gingernut - thanks for that link. I was going to leave my repeat blood test til the week after next as I am soooo busy next week in work, but will def go and have it done now! I usually only work 2 days a week (just more atm) so DD is only in nursery 1 day a week and my mum has her the other day. She finished at her nursery last week as I am trying to save us some money (and in Feb will start at state nursery) and so packed in our David Lloyd Gym membership too - only for DH to go and join a golf club! Why did he have to choose the hobby that takes the most time in the world to play!?

Any other golf widows out there?! ;)

Bronze · 02/09/2004 15:47

Hi people,
I've been away for ages what with moving house no phome lines and then temperemental computers. Everythings ok in baby world at ours apart from horrific pelvic and back pains. i'm tiny for my dates but am not worried about this as i was last time and he was almost ten pound. Havnt seen a midwife for about three months now so am off to chase up why she hasnt got in contact with me
hope youre all well

Bron

PandaBear · 03/09/2004 13:56

Mum2Ela - my DH is a fanatical golf player! Any spare time he has, off he goes. Most of the time it's OK as it means I spend loads of quality time with DD whilst he is away, but others.... well I could happily throttle him! You have my sympathies!

bunny2 · 03/09/2004 16:52

Hello everyone. Welcome to the last trimester . I saw my mw yesterday and apparently measure a week or so too small (she got out the tape measure) so I'm not sure whether to worry or not. I refused my anti-D too but have ahd a blood test which will hopefully show if I need it or not.

vivie · 04/09/2004 12:44

I'm rhesus +ve so don't know anything about the anti-D you are talking about so forgive my ignorance but why are you reluctant to have it?

SPD sounds like hell and you have my sympathy! How long will it take before you feel better after the birth? Will it complicate your births?

I'm still feeling okay if tired and heavy. My bump now sticks out more than my boobs which is something! Apparently my height of fundus is big for my dates but my mw says there's no need to worry at the moment. I do feel that the baby is high and I get quite short of breath if I'm slouching. Definitely feeling 'third trimester' now. Only 10 weeks to go!

webmum · 05/09/2004 20:49

Hello everyone, good to hear you're ijn reasonably good spirits!!

8 weeks to go today, 2 more weeks at work (well only one, this week I'm not going!!)

I'm also having pelvic pain, not too bad yet, but I can't walk for too long, which I stupidly did yesterday (only an hour, but uphill) and I got home that I could hardly walk......Then I had a couple of contractions as well, and I got a bit worried, besides it being too esrly, dh was away with dd for the weekend and I was having terrible nightmares baout giving birth on my own, but obviously nothing happened, but I guess it was a sign to slow down a bit!!

I'm doing yoga now once a week and I'm sure that will help. It's quite frustrating though, because I felt great right until the last day with my first pregnancy and I really enjoyed going for long walks, and do lots of (window) shopping and this time I'll have fewer occasions to rest anyway, typical....

dd must be the oldest child in nappies, at 3 and 3 months she doesn't want to part with them, she will spend the occasional day without them, but soon goes back to them, and she refuses to take them off at childminder's/nursery, which is most of her week anyway....not that I'm too worried, but it would be nice if we got rid of them by next year when she starts school !!

I'm getting into super nesting instinct now, I can't wait for my maternity leave to start and get the house ready for the new baby! Not doing any major decorating as dd doesn't want to leave her room (the box room), so we'll leave it for the moment, and when we want to move the baby we'll ask her again, a few months can make a huge difference in a toddler's life!!

must go pick dd and dh up from airport now!!

Flossam · 05/09/2004 21:30

Hi everyone! Nice to see the thread has been a bit busier of late! It's been so quiet for ages. I've just got back from a weekend with my mums, am finding that my hormones definately seem to be kicking in now, have been tearful twice today! A nice weekend though.

Got back to DP's blood registration card, and he is B+ so thats a shame . Will have to do some thinking about what to say if the midwife brings it up next time. We too are worrying about money and have spent the journey home trying to work out how much money we will have, etc. Not too much point worrying about it too much yet as we don't know how much rent will be when we move, but we know that we can just about afford a little more if we need to. Both plan to try and work extra if we can!

God time seems to be flying by now, not long to go and I'm beginning to worry! I really cannot fathom what it is going to be like being a mum and having baby, I'm terrified! Life is going to be so different! Just can't imagine myself in that role. Dp's parents seem to be coming round to the idea now, she has been showing people our scan photos, seems to have been looking at baby stuff and asking questions so hopefully these are good signs. One of his younger siblings has just announced they are having a baby though, which has taken the heat off a bit I think?!

MumtoEla, I'm a nurse which is why I am up and down like that! Sorry for confusing you. Well I'm glad everyone seems ok apart from their pelvis'! Nice to hear from you all

eidsvold · 05/09/2004 22:16

had a great weekend away - just nice to be in a different environment and for dd to spend time with her aunt and uncle - thankfully Saturday - our only full day was a bit rainy and so dd missed out on surfing - although she did get to paddle in the pool. SUnday morning she had a paddle in the surf... Typically - Sunday was a beautiful day and we had to leave. However - won't complain as we really need the rain. Everything is so dry here.

Two months yesterday exactly for me. Baby is very active - really squirms away all day and punches anyone that gets too near - like dd who still wants to bounce on my lap or tummy....

Saw the GP on Friday - she is pleased with the way everything is progressing... we discussed VBAC's and I asked if there was anything I could do to minimise the risk of another caesar.... really could not do with having another one. Nothing to do with the pain or worry about it but the recovery. As dd is not walking and is quite heavy - with weekly therapy and such - it would mean during the recovery time she would not be able to attend anything as I would not be able to lift her in and out of the car, carry her downstairs to the car and so on. She told that at my next hospital visit to outline clearly and stress why I wanted a VBAC and to make the doctor realise just how important it is for me. She said if you tend to be ambivalent docs are more likely to give you a caesar more readily iykwim.

Nothing much else happening at my end .. just trying to get sorted before no2 arrives.....
have thought about starting some Christmas shopping as I am not sure how easy it will be to get out and about with 2!!

bunny2 · 08/09/2004 21:15

How's it going? I had a scare last night - I felt no baby movements from 8pm till 11pm despite chocolate, icy water, lying still etc. In the end I rang the hospital who told me to come in and luckily they found the babys heartbeat right away. How often does everyone else actually get the chance to monitor movements? I can only get the uninterrupted time in the evening.

Quackers · 08/09/2004 21:19

Hi Bunny! How's it going! Hope you;re ok! I have to just say being a fellow m/c graduate, this movement thing drove me mad! As she got bigger, I felt less and less and less. The last month or so, I would have no movements at all before 9pm!!! Very worrying, but she was fine. Just had no room I suppose. Still I got through some packs of jellybabies trying to get her to mover for me!!! Love Hxx

Flossam · 08/09/2004 21:23

I'm finding that he seems to be busier at all sorts of times of the day now. No real patterns to it, although I can always be garenteed a lively baby when I'm trying to sleep ! It must be his little way of preparing me for when he's out! DP is quite impressed with his strength too! Me less so cause sometimes it hurts .

Must of been horrible for you Bunny. So glad everything is ok.

This thread is really quiet isn't it? None of us seem to have much to say!

vivie · 08/09/2004 21:48

Poor you bunny2 - glad your babe is well. Thanks for your reply on my other thread.

Mum2Ela · 09/09/2004 12:09

Hi all

It is quiet on here, isn't it?

I can't help but notice baby's movements all the time because it is sooooo blood painful! Baby is breech (:() and back to back with me and when he kicks I am sure he is kicking my kidneys or something similar! He has been breech for over 2 weeks now and I am worried he is getting too comfy and won't want to move.

I know he may move but discussed with mw at ante natel yesterday what would happen if he didn't move. Really wouldn't want a c-section.

They had to repeat my blood test yesterday as I have low platelet levels so am waiting on the results of them. Worst case scenario would be a platelet transfusion if they were too low, but am sure they will be fine.

I also asked about the chance of me having this baby early as DD was born at 36 weeks, but started dilating etc at 35 weeks. They said there is an increased likelihood, so I want to be prepared. Have started packing my hospital bag as I didn't get the chance last time!

Hope everyone is well. We need a bit more action on this thread I think!

I go on mat leave tomorrow so will hopefully have a bit more time to have a nose at mumsnet!!

gingernut · 09/09/2004 22:11

Hi all

Hope your baby's wriggling around a bit more bunny. I've been worrying at times because this one doesn't seem to be as active as ds1 was, and some days I hardly seem to feel any movements (although on other days there is plenty). I'm just hoping he is going to be a placid baby (ds1 is a real live wire!).

Mum2Ela, have you heard all the stuff about positions to adopt to encourage the baby to turn if it's breech? There was a thread about it recently here (I shall try and imagine you doing the elephant walking ). Hope the blood test results come back OK, and that you have a good last day at work.

I saw my lovely GP on Monday and she has referred me for physiotherapy. I don't know how long it will take to get an appointment though. She also thinks I should go for the anti-D so I have arranged to go on Tuesday. I just figured that if I had a silent bleed and the baby was affected I couldn't live with myself. vivie, the reason why we're reluctant to have the anti-D is because it's a blood product (which means there's a risk of contamination with viruses or other infectious agents such as prions...although it's a very small risk). And although there's no evidence that it isn't safe for the baby, there isn't really any that it's totally safe either.

Have done lots of Christmas and birthday shopping for ds (whose birthday is in Dec) on ELC online, using the 20% off code someone posted on the discount codes thread. Parcel arrived today so dh and I have been playing with everything!

Hope everyone's well.

Flossam · 09/09/2004 22:24

Hi everyone! Looks like you've come to the same conclusion as me Gingernut about the anti D. I figure that I have found out that it isn't completely innapropriate to have it (as DP is +) and I think I would like to go on and have more children. I also think that it is a NICE guideline, and I would like to think that they are advising to the best of their knowledge and thats all I can ask really!

Everything else here is fine, apart from having more time off work due to the bloody indegestion! It's really embarassing but it really does make me feel retched. I will hopefully see the GP tomorrow and get some 'proper' medication to stop it from happening again. Fingers crossed! I think we must be about the quietest 'due in' thread on here!! Ofcourse it could be that I really have become completely addicted and spend far too long on here!

eidsvold · 10/09/2004 00:30

sorry to hear about your little scare bunny. I found with dd the only time I really felt her move was at night when I was laying down or in the morning before I got up - I just put it down to the fact that I was working and on the go all day. This time I feel this one at different times throughout the day - usually if I am sitting down after putting dd down for a nap or something like that.

Had our first antenatal class last night - such a change from the one and only we attended in the UK. The one in the UK was a nightmare - filled with 30 - 40 yo essex boys and one who with his partner was expecting child no4 - so he knew it all - I think this was just a night out for him rather than something important. We decided not to go after that - for a number of reasons - it was a late finish and I was still working full time and it just took it out of me.

This one was brilliant - taken by a physio who showed us all sorts of gentle exercises to do prior to birth that will help with the birth and after - lots of explanation about what pregnancy does to our muscles and ligaments and just so informative. Bit scary though as we were the only 2nd time parents - the rest were all first timers and wondering why we are doing these classes. I figured the medical profession are treating this like a first pregnancy in terms of the birth we may as well also. I wanted more info about labour and such - the surviving beyond doesn't worry me. Next week - normal labour and the birthing video - GREAT - just after having dinner

PandaBear · 10/09/2004 13:27

Hi All - Bunny you are not having an easy time with this pregnancy are you!! If it helps, there are times when I think I haven't felt baby move in ages - and it scares the living daylights out of me too! Still only a couple of months left and all this worry will have been worth it (hopefully!!)

I'm ok except, bad water retention in my feet. It's really disconcerting being able to press the skin around your ankle and leaving an indentation that takes a good few minutes to disappear! What with that and the waddling caused by SPD, I'm having a really glamorous time!!

Glad to hear your experience of ante natal classes are good this time Eidsvold. I'm not bothering because the ones I went to last time, were OK but didn't really tell me anything I didn't know.

Hope you're all well

PotPourri · 10/09/2004 19:54

Hi all. Hope your baby is moving about now bunny.

I am a negative blood group and DH is positive, this is our first. I need to talk to the midwife about the anti-D. I thought you only got it after the birth, and only if the baby was also positive.

Joined a yoga class and it was really good (but I think I pulled a muscle). I tried to sign up for an antenatal class with the NCT, but kept leaving messages on the voicemail and emailed and I have not heard back, from 2 different locations. Seems also that it closed down over August. Am fed up trying now, so I think I will just see what the hospital one has to offer, combined with my yoga class.

Am getting really fed up with work, I am just so bored with it. I can't wait to spend some time just chilling, and getting the house in order. Have developed a cleaning obsession, which can't be fed when I am knackered with work!

Am starting to get nervous about the birth. Am really struggling with the pain of my abdomen stretching, and leg cramps. No idea how I am going to cope with the pain of childbirth . Yet I am getting really impatient now too. Weird, eh?

Got my glucose test on Monday, so fingers crossed that works out ok.

gingernut · 10/09/2004 20:32

PotPourri, the policy re anti-D may vary in different parts of the country. When I had ds, it was only given postnatally (to Rh neg women who had Rh pos babies) in my area. However, in 2002 (i.e. since I had ds) the NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) came out with a guideline which advised that it was given antenatally to all Rh neg women, at 28 and 34 weeks. (It would still also be given postnatally if your baby turned out to be Rh pos.) The guideline is here if you want to read it. They are following this guideline in my area which is why I've now been offered it antenatally.

The reasons for having it antenatally, as I understand it, are that:

Women who have been given anti-D antenatally in line with the guideline are less likely to become sensitised after the birth of an Rh pos baby than those who only receive anti-D postnatally.

If you have a silent bleed or have a bleed and do not get anti-D in time, you are less likley to become sensitised if you have had anti-D antenatally.

Hope that makes sense.

Hope the GTT goes OK. I'm a bit surprised that you haven't heard back from the NCT. It's a shame because it's a good way to meet people, but hopefully you'll find someone you click with at your yoga or hospital.

As for the birth, somehow you will get through it! I took the view that I would ask for an epidural if things got unbearable, and in the end, I had one. You don't need to suffer, and at the end you get a lovely reward!

bunny2 · 11/09/2004 11:21

Hi, thanks for all your sympathetic messages , the baby is kicking loads now, right on my bladder and keeping me awake! I am getting really impatient too, we are having a party for my brothers 40th today and there will be loads of booze but guess I'll be sticking to oj (well, might have a couple of small vinos too).

Potpourri, you'll be ok during labour, it bloody hurts but the pain goes immediately when the baby comes out. Despite vowing nver to go through labour again after a difficult first time, I am really excited about it now. It will be the most amazing experience of your life, I promise. Good luck with the GTT.

Has everyone finished their baby shopping? I havent started, I cant face hauling my fat arse around the shops, it is just too much effort.

eidsvold · 12/09/2004 03:50

bunny glad to hear all is going well - in spite of bladder bouncer we bought a car seat today and I finally found a top n tail bowl!! YEH - strange to be sooo excited but they just aren't the thing here - guess the weather makes it more conducive to bath them - not worried about baby getting too cold but I just found the top n tail bowl a godsend with dd..... so I finally managed to find one today. Just need to get a new buggy...... we are borrowing a cot, moses basket and change table - so just need to get new mattresses etc for that and we are done - don't need much clothing - be too hot.

feeling huge and counting the weeks.....

webmum · 12/09/2004 08:48

finally a bit of action here.

Everyone getting ready!!

I've also started yoga classes, i did them with dd and found ti really helped with back pain and breathing in labour, so I wanted to got again. I've also started aquanatal which I absolutely love!

DD can't wait any longer she keeps askingwhne her baby sister is coming, 7 more weeks!!

The pelvic pain is makes me very frustrated, I used to enjoy long walks with dd1 and now I have to use the car all the time because I get very tired and after a while it gets very painful...Can't wait to see the m/f on tuesday!

Haven't done any baby shopping yet (not that I need much though), I've got an exam on Monday and been preparing for that. Next week is last week at work, and after that I'll start preparing all the baby stuff. I really want to get the house organised before baby2 comes so we don't need to spend as much time tidying up. At the mo is all a bit of a mess. Never really got it together since moving 3 years ago!! (with dd1 only 12 days old!!)

Potpourri you might be surprised by how much you can cope in childbirth (I was!!), but like gingernut says, you can always have an epidural!! I took the view that if women have been doing it for centuries, there was no reason why I couldn't do it too!! Anyway by the time labour started, (4 days after due dtae) I was so excited about the prospect that dd was finally arriving that I didn't think about the pain at all, at least no until it was so abd that it was the only thing I could think of!!!! good luck and enjoy your last weeks of freedom!!

bunny2 · 12/09/2004 17:33

Just struggled around Mothercare and got nothing at all! What a load of rubbish that store is. They had no moses basket linen, no changing mats and hardly any front-opening nightshirts. I also tried to get some advice but all the sales staff were too busy to help. Pah! Shall be shopping online I think.

I have pelvic pain too, a terrible ache when I walk, I am sure when I was pg with ds I didnt get this till much later. And I get pains under my ribs if I sit for too long. I just want this baby to come out now!
