I’m creating this thread so that we can continue the October 2018 baby bus. Only one page left on ours and once it completes we can’t share this link so getting this done now .... all aboard!

Thanks Milk and ATP. I really appreciate the supportive messages. May have welled up a bit (hormones eh!). The logical bit of my brain knows you're right but it's just such a shock being diagnosed, and I have to wait until Wednesday to find out what I'm supposed to do.

@ATP1000 I'm 40 but my notes seem to think the only reason I was referred for the GTT was the PCOS. I guess it's another thing that varies by area. Good luck for your test xx

I haven't visited the labour ward, I think they mentioned a possible tour a bit later on. It does have pools and balls etc. but everything I've read says births are more chilled out in the mlu and interventions are less likely. Having just looked at the information again I think it might still be possible for me to give birth in the mlu if the diabetes isn't severe. I will just have to wait and see. So I will try to be less downhearted for now. I know things could be a lot worse! xx

RhiBee29 · 05/07/2018 18:15

@TinyTerror1 absolutely no fault of yours at all! You just need time to get over the shock and battle the irrational hormones. Birth plans tend to go out of the window anyway, my motto is what will be will be as long as baby is healthy Smile

TinyTerror1 · 05/07/2018 18:42

@RhiBee29 so true! I do just want a healthy baby however she arrives.

I'd just been putting a lot of mental effort into preparing for the birth - one of the many reasons I'm a FTM at my great age is because the idea of childbirth has always terrified me - and I was feeling like it was all worthless because "I'm bound to just end up with an elcs now". Feeling a bit more rational as time passes. Think the great hormone seesaw is heading back towards the happy ones again thankfully!

caoraich · 05/07/2018 21:14

Oh @TinyTerror1 it's not your fault at all! Just one of those random genetic things and it's dead common. And it's a good thing that you know now so you can take care of yourself and baby. Hope you're feeling OK.

I haven't looked into hypnobirthing but went to my first Yogabellies class tonight. It was quite nice and relaxing but I can't believe how much core strength I've lost - I stopped doing HIIT during the first trimester because of the hyperemesis (which has thankfully eased a lot though I'm still on Cyclizine) am hoping that it will help as I get ever more unwieldy!

I haven't done yoga really at all before and I did almost dissolve into fits of giggles at the end - it's held in a church hall, and we were all lying down relaxing with the teacher saying nice soothing things. It suddenly popped into my head that literally the last time I was in a church hall was at someone's 13th birthday disco where the highlight was snogging a boy behind some gym mats. I wondered what 13 year old me would think of my current situation! Thankfully managed not to snigger too loudly.

Am starting NCT at the end of August - has anyone been to NCT before? Not sure what to expect!

ladydolly · 05/07/2018 21:38

tiny my sis in law had GD and anaemia and had a 100% natural birth in mlu and gd controlled with diet. Think positive!

For those looking for swimsuits asda is great! Good patterns and shape. I went through 3 asos ones in my last pg, total bobbins, lasted a few weeks each one.

TinyTerror1 · 05/07/2018 21:50

Thanks caoraich and thank you ladydolly that's encouraging. I will keep hoping!

Just bought some of these, delivery for Monday, my thighs have grown a fair bit and it’s not comfortable wearing skirts, hopefully this will help!

I'm with you @ATP1000, I have ordered a couple of pairs of these shorts to go under my dresses & skirts, I always find that the bands around my thighs slip off so went for shorts.
Let us know how they are though as they could be handy if they stay in place!

Can we talk hiccups? Am over paranoid as this baby seems to have them all the damn time. I feel like he has them whenever I’m sat down and I don’t like it!

Have convinced myself he’s having seizures already - argh!!

TinyTerror1 · 06/07/2018 10:00

Penguina Pretty sure I've felt hiccups for the first time this week (ironic really as I've had them for months!) and they do feel like she's having a bit of a fit. Very weird. I guess we'll get used to it eventually...

Doll87 · 06/07/2018 10:59

Hello all! I've just come back from my 28 week midwife appointment...

So they tell you to stop eating from whatever time they give you the night before you see them, and then don't eat anything until after your appointment with them. Also, 2 hours before you do see them, you have to drink this "lucozade" equivalent drink so they can test the level of sugars in your blood. I did all this as instructed, pottered along to my appointment and she began taking my bloods....(which i'm perfectly fine with, i watch it with fascination) but almost straight away i began feeling very dizzy...once all 4/5 tubes of blood were taken, i came over all sweaty, vision went sparkly and dark, my hearing went a bit dull and i felt very sick! The midwife reassured me it was normal and if i fainted she would be there to catch me lol but hell...i did not expect to be almost fainting!

So i would advise anyone who's not yet been to take a sweet treat and a bottle of water with them in their bag to have straight after just to take the edge off. And a handbag fan..i was a very sticky sweaty mess after the bloods were taken and had to ask for a tissue to wipe my tummy down with before she could measure baby hahaha!

After 5 or so minutes i was back to normal again but i was just totally unprepared, i don't think i've ever fainted in my life so was not expecting anything like that this morning.

Straight after i went to Tesco and stuffed my face with two chocolate croissants! Hey, what the baby wants, the baby gets ;)

TinyTerror1 · 06/07/2018 11:14

That sounds like the glucose tolerance test for gestational diabetes, except that for that you normally get your blood taken before you drink the liquid too. I felt so awful during the two-hour wait between the two blood samples on Wednesday morning. I completely sympathise! It really isn't the weather for it either...

sparkling123 · 06/07/2018 15:47

Urg Doll87, sounds horrible, agree, this heat is making things worse! Hope you're ok @TinyTerror1 with your GD. Have a nice weekend everyone Smile

Went to an outdoor toddler event today and am now very sunburnt despite wearing factor 50. I'm not expecting to survive the summer at this rate. I think I've hit the hot flushes too, just unbearable heat 😓

caoraich · 07/07/2018 21:21

Do any of you work in the NHS?

I ask as I've just discovered that Ergobaby do a 70% NHS discount!

You email their customer services, they email back asking for confirmation (I sent them my registration certificate but I think an ID badge scanned in would probably do too) then when you send it they email you back with your discount code! The email I got was randomly in German as I think it comes via their central European office, but the code worked on the UK site.

We just got our little one some sleeping bags, a changing bag, a nursing pillow, blankets and their top of range birth to toddler carrier plus winter jacket thing for it for under £150, which is the RRP of the carrier alone!

@milknosugar, you are doing so well, you are having such a hard run of it. I’ve had a few days of non stop SI joint pain and it really got me down but it is more intermittent now. I can imagine how exhausting mentally and physically it is to have this pain constantly.

Are you receiving physio? Is it helping at all? I ended up paying for an osteopath, ridiculously expensive but it helped me, it didn’t fix it but reduced the sharpest pain and helped my headaches too.

Weight gain is inevitable, just being pregnant but also with your injuries. I’ve put on two stone so far, it makes me panic but I know now that another stone is likely. As soon as you’re able to move normally it will come off. Could you do some seated arm exercises like raising your arms to help with circulation?

My yoga class started off with everyone positive then at the second week I said I was tired and sore and everyone started saying the same and the lady at 38 weeks nearly started crying as she was so hot and tired. I think there can be a lot of bluff initially but really, most people find it hard even if the scale of hard is different.

Underlying it we are all grateful to be pregnant and that’s what people show first but it doesn’t take much to scratch the surface. Hats off to those who sail through, but it’s so hard to predict who that will be. I was super fit size 10 before being pregnant, Gym 3x a week, going on cycling holidays etc. I’m now a size 16 with dodgy hips! I thought I’d be able to stay fit but my body had a different plan!

Milknosugar swelling is definitely related to the heat. It could be caused by dehydration as that can cause fluid retention - I've upped my water intake to 3 litres a day. But sometimes it just happens unfortunately. I hope you aren't too uncomfortable! As atp said, you are doing really well and you come across as so positive in spite of the pain you are in so don't beat yourself up if you occasionally feel like it's all too much. Or even if you feel that way a lot.

I get a bit frustrated at pregnancy yoga because I'm not doing the moves the way she says but when I looked around properly I realised that most of the other people can't do them properly either. After about 5/6 classes I am now marginally better than I was at the beginning, but it's a slow improvement. Try not to compare yourself to the others but track your own progress.

I hope you enjoyed your blackcurrants. I have a couple of bushes in the garden but we are moving - hopefully on Friday - and I don't have time to do anything with them. I hope the new people don't just dig up all my plants Sad My favourite thing to do with blackcurrants is to make them into a cordial and then mix it 50/50 with vodka. It is unbelievably good Grin Might have to plant a bush at the new house too!

Hope everyone has had a good weekend. I visited my family at the seaside and swam in the sea, which was lovely and cool. I hope baby enjoyed it! Looks like the weather might be dropping a few degrees this week, fingers crossed x

EffRam · 08/07/2018 22:46

@caoraich that's a great top tip, I'm NHS too, thank you!!!

Strawberry23 · 09/07/2018 07:40

Has anyone been told the gender and it’s wrong?! I’m quite paranoid it’s really a little boy when I’ve been told it’s a girl. I’ve got my name all sorted and all her clothes, I know it’s a silly thing to worry about but is it very common for it to be wrong?

Belles86 · 09/07/2018 09:02

@Strawberry23 I'm afraid I can't offer any suggestions but I also feel the same an would be interested to know more.. The sonographer was like 'so, I think, it's maybe a girl' and I felt like it might be more definitive than that (FTM so what do I know tho..heh). Will be chuffed either way and to be fair would happily let a little dude wear pink :)

TinyTerror1 · 09/07/2018 09:40

My sonographer was fairly confident but she did manage to get a full straight-on view of the area. I know she was definitely right because we had chromosomal testing! I can't find any figures for how often it is wrong but it must be relatively uncommon or the policy would be not to say. Maybe don't paint the nursery pink and stencil her name on the wall just yet Wink
