Morning all, J is asleep, which seems only to happen during the daytime, he hasn't got the hang of this sleeping at night business yet. I have downloaded a couple of photos of the cutie for you to see and hopefully to get those hormones moving.
I'm thinking of investing in a pineapple plantation the amount of pineapple that is currently being munched!
Pink, I promised you my c-section lowdown, so here goes, sorry if its very long...it was all very calm, they prepped me just beforehand with a dry shave, but it was an automatic razor and not painful at all, and actually it was best she did it cos she made sure it covered all the bits where the dressing was stuck to. Then in theatre I put my CD on and everyone was very friendly and jokey and the spinal was v v easy and didn't hurt at all. The anaesthetist was lovely and talked to me all the time about what he was doing and the surgeon too. J made his appearance with the most enormous yell the minute his head popped out before the rest of his body followed! It took them about 15 mins to get him out, but that is because I'm a scarred old lady of 3 operations! They put J in a dish and showed him to me straight away, with all the comments of 'hes a bigun, isn't he?' then took him to the babyunit thing to warm him and check his apgar. Then he and dh went to a warmer room to be weighed and dressed and they closed me up which took about 40 mins, I suggested a tummy tuck at the same time but she laughed and said I didn't need it, yeah right. Anyway we all recovered in a room until 2 ish, me pumped full of morphine but with J right beside me and dh too.
At 2 they moved me to the postnatal room and I had some visitors at 3-ish, but frankly i was so dosed up from the morphine they could have been anyone and anything! I personally hated the morphine and it made me throw up by the end of the day (the being sick wasn't as bad I had feared!!) and so i told them to change me to something else and so they took me off and gave me codeine, ibuprofen and paracetamol and it was MUCH better.
Peppermint tea is really helpful, take the lactulose they give you too and don't worry about going to the loo, it is fine. Get up and walk around with the mw help after they take out the catheter, have a shower if you can, makes you feel so much better and ask for help all the time, to move, pick up baby, more water whatever. What nobody tells you is that the baby sleeps for almost 24 hours afterwards and feeds little so use this time to get some rest. Also he will be mucosy and cough it out, sick it out at some point as he hasn't been through a vaginal delivery. Big cotton pants from Primark have been great and elasticated waists, quite high or skirts, have all helped. I am moving around with no problem a bit slow and fat but getting there! Just don't forget, go at your own pace and don't be scared to ask for help when you need it.
