Good luck @olderthanyouthink - I had my bloods taken a couple of weeks back and it honestly took 30 seconds. The phlebotomists have got some serious skills and they're well used to looking after people with needle phobias. You'll be great! And also YOU GET TO SEE YOUR BABY! 😊 I still have 6 days to wait which is feeling like forever.

I have a bit of a dental phobia and have gone into the dentist with music blaring in my ears, sunglasses on and eyes closed... that helped me - may be worth a go for you?

When I was in labour with dd they put a cannula in each hand and I was so distracted by the labour I didn't even realise til they were in! It's mad.

Looking forward to seeing your pic!

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 26/04/2018 07:54

Good luck today to all with scans etc. X

Saraswati · 26/04/2018 09:02

@olderthanyouthink I really envy my dp ignorance Too! His current thinking is no more bleeding so it's fine and dandy and he's excited about the scan on weds. I on the other hand have googled every scenario and convinced myself of several problems, I just can't be optimistic about This!

moomoo85 · 26/04/2018 10:59

I thought my sickness was starting to get better having had a good run of good days (by good I mean I was still feeling pretty rough but minimal vomiting) but the last few days it has been back with vengeance. I am also starting to get worried about my scan now as it gets closer. It is next wednesday so 6 days to go.

11+3

olderthanyouthink · 26/04/2018 11:51

Blood test done worse than I imagined. I'm having my BF fixed and I never want another test.

So we got a call last night with the results of the CVS (sooner than expected), and the baby does have Downs. I think we were resigned to it given what the medics had said. We went in this morning to meet the midwife and they are booking me in for a surgical termination ASAP. I honestly thought I would continue a pregnancy in pregnancy in these circumstances, but now we are in this situation I know we’ve made the right decision for us. We won’t be telling many people.

Thank you all for your support. I may not update again as I don’t want to derail this thread. Hoping the rest of you have healthy pregnancies and I’ll pop back in November to hear how you got on.

olderthanyouthink · 26/04/2018 12:20

Oh @Nightmanagerfan I'm so so sorry, take care and be gentle with yourself, you know you are doing the right thing for you and your family. 🍫 ((massive hugs))

GreenMeerkat · 26/04/2018 12:49

@Nightmanagerfan I'm so, so sorry to hear your news. You are making the right decision for you, I would do the same. Thinking of you xxx

NoCatsHere · 26/04/2018 12:50

nightmanager so sorry to hear your news. Absolutely the right decision for you, and yes to not telling people, other people love to have an opionion when it’s not there place to. Wishing you love and luck for the future. Flowers

sarahhh1984 · 26/04/2018 12:57

So sorry to hear your news, @Nightmanagerfan. I can't pretend to know what you're going through but I understand how you must be feeling. And you're absolutely right not to tell many people - it's no one's business but your's and your DH's.

I hope you get the rest and recuperation you'll need and I wish you all the best for the future. Thanks

LastNightsMakeUp · 26/04/2018 13:00

So sorry to hear your news @Nightmanagerfan I hope all goes as well as it can. You're making a very brave decision / sending you lots of love xx

BunBunMum · 26/04/2018 13:47

So sorry @nightmanagerfan Hope the procedure goes well and look after yourself. Big hugs xx

Shrimpi · 26/04/2018 14:11

@Nightmanagerfan

I'm so sorry to hear your news. It is difficult to know in advance what any of us would do, and the right answer is probably different for everyone, but if it makes any difference at all I can at least imagine that I would make the same choice that you have. DS can be a completely different ball game if there is also a heart condition. It's really brave for you to share this with us.

Shrimpi · 26/04/2018 14:15

@olderthanyouthink

Oh no! Was it very difficult? They can be hit and miss, it doesn't mean every blood rest will be as bad, although hopefully you won't need any more!

I once had to have a cannula when I was injured and in a lot of pain. Pain is a fantastic distraction from having a cannula put in! I didn't notice it all. I'm sure it would be the same if you needed one in labour or something.

MeredithShepherd · 26/04/2018 14:18

So sorry @nightmanagerfan life really is shit sometimes

sarahhh1984 · 26/04/2018 15:06

How did your scans go @MeredithShepherd and @olderthanyouthink? Been thinking of you both today.

MeredithShepherd · 26/04/2018 15:10

@sarahhh1984 thank you for thinking of me! Baby was very active and wiggly! Due date changed to 4th November so no longer a bonfire night baby! Hope everyone else’s scans have gone well!

Emelene · 26/04/2018 15:11

I had a positive scan today - one wriggling, waving baby. Smile So active they could barely get the crown rump length. But measuring at 12+3 and new EDD of 5th November - a fireworks baby!

I'm over the moon and so relieved.
Sorry for those of you with bad news or anxious waits. Xx

sarahhh1984 · 26/04/2018 15:12

Oh that's such good news @MeredithShepherd! So happy for you! Think I've been vicariously living through you today while I wait for my own tomorrow. Very nervously excited. Glad you have a little wriggler!

sarahhh1984 · 26/04/2018 15:13

Oh, @Emelene, what a lovely scan picture! Congratulations on your little firework!

Emelene · 26/04/2018 15:18

Thanks @sarahhh1984. I loved seeing the baby wave! We did get this one too which I think is really clear. Good luck for yours tomorrow - what time are you having it? Smile

olderthanyouthink · 26/04/2018 15:25

@Shrimpi it want physically bad I guess just psychologically it wasn't great. I didn't much like the nurse or her back up if I could keep still I would, I had a bunch of people looking through the door to see what the fuss was and my BF probably has some bite and scratch marks.

@MeredithShepherd glad to hear you've got an active wriggler.

@Emelene awww little nose!

@sarahhh1984 scan was good.

Little, or should I say big, thing was wriggling around. Measuring 11+1 when I should be 10+3 by LMP, still to small for NT so I have to go back next week. Such a relief to hear the heart beat, so strange instantly recognising the baby as a baby on the screen

@Emelene Aw, look at that cute little nose! 😍 It's such a clear pic - my DD's was like that. Hoping I get some clear images tomorrow. Mine's at 1pm so need to remember to start drinking water/squash at midday! I remember my 12-week scan with DD. I drank the two pints of water as instructed, got to the hospital and discovered they were running half an hour late. I pretty much sprinted to the loo once the sonographer was finished with me! 😂

sarahhh1984 · 26/04/2018 15:32

@olderthanyouthink Lovely picture! Congratulations. And so good that you're measuring ahead. Must be nice to be able to knock nearly a week off your EDD! I'm expecting to be measuring a day behind tomorrow as I was at my nine-week private scan. But, that said, I was two days behind at my early scan so baba may have caught up by now. With DD think I was measuring five days behind at early scan and then two days ahead at 12-week scan so we'll see!
