@LastNightsMakeUp yes I agree with the midwives to go by baby's movements once you can feel them of course. I'd never rely on a Doppler if i was concerned about reduced movements. Early on though, before you can feel them I just think they're a great comfort. I started looking at 8 weeks but didn't find it until 9 weeks and then it was pot luck when I would find it. Can find it pretty much straight away now!

LastNightsMakeUp · 15/04/2018 18:06

@GreenMeerkat oh fab I'll have to pull mine out and have a goSmile

Is 10 weeks too early to get sacral back pain? I had it towards the end of my first pg, had a hot water bottle on my back the last 2 nights... I'm worried this'll be me til November!

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 15/04/2018 19:29

There's a good few of us with our scans on 24th isn't there?! 🙋🏻

MeredithShepherd · 15/04/2018 19:55

I still haven’t got my scan date yet and I’m 11 weeks tomorrow Sad

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 15/04/2018 20:40

@MeredithShepherd - maybe you should give them a call?

GreenMeerkat · 15/04/2018 20:41

Yes @GiveMummyTheWhizzer mine is on the 24th 🙋🏻‍♀️

BunBunMum · 15/04/2018 20:41

@aussi I found my hay fever wasn’t too bad when I was pregnant with DS as my immune system was suppressed. Was worse the next summer when I was breastfeeding and still couldn’t take anything! There is a barrier (prevalin) nasal spray that is ok in pregnancy or putting vaseline around your nostrils to trap the pollen.

sarahhh1984 · 15/04/2018 21:00

Just had to see out of hours GP as cold bug has left me feeling breathless. All clear and he thinks it's just a nasty virus that's hit me harder than normal due to pregnancy.

But he also put the fear of God in me about blood clots as breathlessness can be a symptom. So now I'm anxiously analysing every breath for chest pain. 🙄 Need to try and forget about it before I start developing psychosomatic symptoms!

Nightmanagerfan · 15/04/2018 21:32

@aussi I’ve been recommended Prevalin spray by my GP as I can’t take my usual prescribed antihistamines. However the NHS website does say a couple of antihistamines are ok in pregnancy. I’ll try to find the link. I’m sneezing my head off already so might have to take something as I’m not sure the nasal spray will cut it.

AJ89 · 16/04/2018 06:46

Speaking of hayfever I’ve woke up all runny and itchy lol. I did go to GP last week but they refused to prescribe anything as not completely safe. Will try some of the recommendations from here though, thanks!

pipsqueak126 · 16/04/2018 10:29

I don't suffer from hayfever (touch wood!) but my mum does and she uses Sterimar, which I know is safe throughout pregnancy. It's just saline solution, but it is effective (although not as effective as antihistamines!). You can get different types of it, so it would be worth checking the individual product first.

Nightmanagerfan · 16/04/2018 10:32

@pipsqueak yes sterimar is good for when you come home after being out and want to rinse out any pollen. I’d forgotten about that. Don’t think it does anything to stop the reaction unfortunately!

NoCatsHere · 16/04/2018 12:46

Sorry to all of those of you suffering with hay fever. So annoying when you can’t take something you know works!
I’m 8 weeks today and so glad I’ve made it this far. Going to my first booking in appointment tomorrow when I’m going to do my best to beg for an early scan, and if not I’ll look into a private one for next week. It was 9 weeks the mmc was spotted at a scan so I just want to know sooner rather than later if anything is wrong.

Cluelessmamma · 16/04/2018 17:02

Hi November 18 mums, id love to join Smile

I’m due with my second on 18th. We have a DD who is 2. I’m 9 weeks along and was hesitant to join as sadly had mc in jan but having had an early scan we’re feeling more relaxed now about this little one!

Having the usual nausea, exhaustion and mooooood swings (poor dh)

Really excited to get past 12 weeks and look forward to getting to know you all! Xx

TinyPawz · 16/04/2018 17:40

Is anyone booking in for a gender scan? I think I will if unable to tell at anomaly scan. I'm much too impatient to wait til November.

AJ89 · 16/04/2018 18:55

@TinyPawz yes I will book in for one, I’m so impatient couldn’t possibly wait til the birth to find out!!

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 16/04/2018 19:08

@TinyPawz we hope to be able to find out gender at the 20 week NHS scan. But when we had the early private scan we did also book a 4D scan to go to with DS at about 28 weeks. So if baby is awkward at 20 weeks hopefully we have a back up plan.

I don't want to wait to find out. I want to be able to buy dresses or vice versa.

Either way it will be lovely for DS to see his brother or sister at a 4D; well we think so anyway. Smile

Magpie24 · 16/04/2018 19:12

@TinyPawz how likely is they can tell at the 20 week scan? I was hoping it was very likely!

10+3 and feeling much brighter which is great. Less sick but still ravenous and a bit of energy returning. Diet improving as well as am craving fresh fruit. Have only put on 3lbs so far which I am pleased about as have been eating like a horse!

TheImprobableGirl · 16/04/2018 19:30

I will probably find out in one of the various future scans I have if I don’t find out at the anomaly scan!
I’ve got a problem with one of my X chromosomes which means I only have a 50% chance of any boy I conceive surviving-

Viable pregnancies = 25% girl without genetic condition, 25% girl with genetic condition, 25% boy without genetic condition and 25% boy ending in miscarriage or stillbirth- they usually tell me what it is if possible though!

Nightmanagerfan · 16/04/2018 20:32

@theimprobablegirl so sorry to hear that. Hope you get good news! I’m also a carrier for a genetic condition affecting boys - so 50% chance of a boy having it (it’s not life threatening but an eyesight condition that impacts quality of life fairly severely). A family member has it so I’m quite calm about it as I know what it would involve.

I was going to post earlier - I’ve had a dull pain in my lower left abdomen since Friday, as well as constipation and one episode of almost fainting and being pale/sweaty. I stupidly googled and now see that those symptoms can point to ectopic. I’m 11+5. How likely is it to be anything serious do you think? I’ll call midwife in morning if still painful, but am v aware it could just be constipation (and I know this is v common in pregnancy).

MiniMinions · 16/04/2018 20:55

@Magpie24 depends on if baby behaves or not (legs crossed or not haha) last time they said definitely boy as he wasn't shy hehe

@TheImprobableGirl crikey!! Keeping everything crossed for healthy baby for you.

Am dreading hayfever hitting, but have got itchy throat at the moment but think just cold related. Have made appointment to see headteacher later this week to break the news. Wanted to wait until after scan next week but need time off to go to scan!

Shrimpi · 16/04/2018 21:07

Hi @Cluelessmama ! Welcome Smile

@Magpie24 When I read the anomaly scan reports it seems that they are nearly always able to check the sex at 20 weeks, and nearly always get it right. But no guarantees!

@Nightmanagerfan it could so easily be "normal" but I think you should get that checked out. You could call EPAU/your midwife and ask them. What were you doing when you felt dizzy and sweaty? It's much more normal if it happened after you changed posture suddenly (eg getting up off the loo, getting out of bed)

Nightmanagerfan · 16/04/2018 21:16

Thanks @shrimpi when I felt faint I was on the tube - hot and tired at tea time on a Friday after a long week. I got off and bought a sandwich and sat in fresh air for a while until I felt better. I do think I could have just been tired, hot and hungry!

Aussi · 16/04/2018 21:55

@nightmanagerfan that has definitely happened to be 3 times so far, twice on the train (so grim if it’s a while to the next stop!) and then once just chilling on the sofa. I think it’s fairly normal but would check it out if you’re worried!

Thanks all for hayfever tips, will definitely look into the local honey thing (although think it might be tricky in London!) Seems to be ok so far so fingers crossed not as bad this year...

Shrimpi · 16/04/2018 22:05

@Nightmanagerfan OK that's more reassuring, sounds like "normal" circumstances to have a faint, and being very pale and sweaty are symptoms of a faint. If you feel the same way again but can't sit or lie down then try "pumping" your legs or squatting, or bringing a knee up to your chest (if you're holding something firmly for balance!) as well as putting your head down.

Constipation does often cause discomfort/pain in the left lower abdomen. You should probably drink as much water as possible (easier said than done!). Unfortunately with pregnancy it is mainly your bowels just slowing down so a softening laxative might not help, but could try movicol if your stools are very hard. That's all I can think of!

If you start feeling suddenly very faint for no reason or the pain gets a lot worse then I would definitely get it checked out.
