@ALRM I'm so sorry to hear that. Thinking of you. Thanks

GreenMeerkat · 26/03/2018 07:41

I'm sorry to hear that ALRM xxx

GreenMeerkat · 26/03/2018 07:42

Have a scan today at 8+3. Just for reassurance really but I'm so nervous. I have not had any bleeding or cramping and feel sick as a dog, I know that's no guarantee but surely it's a good sign right?

keepinghopeful · 26/03/2018 08:11

Good luck @GreenMeerkat .. ive scan booked for 9 weeks & wondering should i book earlier one as well but dont know if can go through anxiety of it!

toasterstrudle · 26/03/2018 08:55

So sorry @ALRM, I really hope things work out for you really soon.

Good luck everyone with your early scans. I've got my booking in app today at 8+4 (I think!), exciting! I know it's a worrying time everyone but remember the chance of a missed miscarriage is really low, only around 1%. As our pregnancies progress the chance of miscarriage really goes down, remember the stats are in our favour - we're far more likely to have successful pregnancies statistically. And if the worst happens, there's nothing that can be done at this stage anyway so it's much better to try and stay positive. Easier said than done I know!

toasterstrudle · 26/03/2018 08:58

Also can't believe how many of us on are in our mat jeans/ stretchy top trousers already Grin For anyone asking below, i found ASOS brilliant for maternity clothes!

BadBadBeans · 26/03/2018 09:04

@ALRM I'm so sorry to hear that it is a loss. Wishing you all the best x

@GreenMeerkat definitely a good sign. Let us know how it goes. X

@toasterstrudle it's actually really reassuring when you put it like that Smile

This is very reassuring and you can adjust it to your circumstances

Keen to join. I'm exactly the same as @TinyPawz: 37 and 6+5 with number 2. Number 1 is 11 months so flip between excitement that he will have a playmate and terror that I will have 2 under 2!

Already feel massive and spent hours on Saturday trying to find baggy clothes to meet friends, so it wouldn't give the game away, particularly when I also said no to a glass of wine (this NEVER happens)

sarahhh1984 · 26/03/2018 10:05

Welcome @petiteange28! I'm 7+5 today and DD is also 11 months so we'll have the same gap. Feel the same as you - veering sharply between excited and terrified!

BadBadBeans · 26/03/2018 13:58

@hellotoyellow I'm sorry you're feeling blue. It's probably better to have left the scan later because it gives you the best chance of seeing something. Must be hard having your DH away for so long. Will he have to do that later in your pregnancy too?

Welcome @petiteange28! My little one will be 2 and 4 months at this one's due date, so not as small a gap as you but nonetheless I will have my hands full!

For those struggling to fit into bras, I know it's early to buy a nursing bra but I bought this one at the end of my pregnancy when my boobs had grown but I wasn't sure what size they were going to end up when my milk came in. It's a bit crop-top-y but I do find it supportive because the material is quite thick. It's brilliant because it covers a range of sizes. I wore it all through breastfeeding as my boobs slowly deflated and no longer filled out the fancier nursing bras I'd purchased. I still wear it now sometimes because I find it comfy! For reference, I was a 30DD before pregnancy. I don't know how it would work for someone with larger boobs.

I had my GP appointment today (I'm about 6+4). She used one of those dating wheel things that always puts you two days behind the NHS website due date calculator, so gave me an EDD of 17th Nov. For those who are worrying about elective C-sections, I spoke to her about this and she said that the midwife might suggest a trial of labour, but that I should just be firm about wanting a section if that's what I decide, and she didn't think there would be any problem. She's now referred me to the midwife service so I shall wait to be contacted with my booking-in appointment.

Hello! I thought I’d join you, 6+5 today so the same as quite a few on here, due date Nov 14th. We have a 5 yr old already so will have quite a big gap. TTC for years and didn’t really think it would actually happen!

I’ve also got an early scan this week at 7.0 as already had brown spotting and loss of symptoms so not optimistic but nausea and fatigue seem to be returning a bit today.

Good luck everyone

Nightmanagerfan · 26/03/2018 14:18

Thanks for the bra tip @badbadbeans I’ve just ordered two having had a bad boob day! I got one good non wired bra but it’s in the wash and the one I’m wearing is too tight. I swear I’ve gone up about three sizes!

Does anyone else find their symptoms come in waves? I seem to have two bad days followed by one good one, then repeat.

I’m so grateful to this group by the way. I’ve only told one friend in real life (and DH of course) so it’s invaluable to be able to chat about symptoms etc. Cake to you all

bellanotte22 · 26/03/2018 15:05

Hugs and Flowers to all those going through tough times.

Hello to the newbies Smile

I had a text appointment reminder for my first midwife one today. Only to discover it's the same midwife I saw 9 years ago who was totally vile. She told me I'd need building regs for a home water birth and that there was no pixie dust in the water Hmm honestly she really put a downer on my care during that time. So I was a bit Shock to see her name!

I called and there is no alternative so I think I will change surgeries. The midwife I saw for some of my second pregnancy was so lovley that I can see the difference. I'll go along tomorrow to get the ball rolling anyway. Maybe she's mellowed?! Confused

toasterstrudle · 26/03/2018 15:36

@Saraswati love that link!

moomoo85 · 26/03/2018 15:44

@bellanotte22 worth checking she doesn't cover the other surgeries in the area before trying to switch surgeries as in our area at least the midwives are attached to a group of practices rather than just ones.

Windy1234 · 26/03/2018 15:54

Hi all...can I tentatively join please. Approx 5w 3d - however suffered two mc last year - one early one in Aug/Sept and then a mmc in November where an erpc was required.

Apart from sore boobs and tiredness, no other symptoms and I just don't feel pregnant at all, not sure if I just feel the same will happen again this time or not but I can't seem to imagine a healthy baby at the end of this.

Wasn't sure whether to join the thread as I didn't want to jinx things but I have no control over what will happen.

Age:29
No children, 3rd preg

LastNightsMakeUp · 26/03/2018 16:18

Hi and congratulations to all the new joiners 🖐

@BadBadBeans good to hear about your experience with what your gp said about elcs. I've still had bad insomnia so have had plenty of time to read a lot of articles and guidelines and I'm decided that's the route I'm going to take.

@ALRM So sorry to hear about your loss, have been thinking about you.

I have my booking in appointment next week and I got my 12 week scan appointment through today, feeling more real. Still no vomiting but insomnia, fatigue and sore boobs so not going to worry too much.

Quick question, does anyone know how long it takes to get the blood results back for the combined screening (NHS)? I have a private 12 week scan a few days afterwards where I'll have the bloods taken and the results will be back that day so just wondering if I have anything to gain by also having the combined screening done through the NHS? - I'll still have the scan as last time they were keen to use there own scan for dating (although the dates matched.) I'd already had private bloods so refused the NHS ones.

(7+0 weeks with #2)

LastNightsMakeUp · 26/03/2018 16:30

@bellanotte22 Oh that's so disappointing about the midwife. Hopefully you'll be able to sort out a change. During my previous pregnancy I complained about my first midwife (various reasons) after my first appointment and was then seen by the head of midwifery for the rest of my appointments til I moved regions and then had a lovely mw team. Don't be worried to complain this time if you're not happy. At least it is not your first rodeo and you know what's right and what definitely isn't!

@Windy1234 Congratulations and welcome! I didn't find out I was pregnant til 7 weeks with my dd so definitely didn't feel pregnant before then - I was just wondering how I was getting fatter on a juice diet 😂 This time I'm 7 weeks and not much in the way of symptoms either - all pregnancies seem to be different.

TheUbercornMum · 26/03/2018 16:35

@LastNightsMakeup last time my NHS tests took around 2 weeks but I think it depends on each trust as my friends took a bit more.

Re ELCS I went to my booking a few weeks back and got a real hard reply about it all (and wasn't happy with loads of other things) so I'm in the process of switching hospitals and trusts atm. The other is known to be a lot more sympathetic after research I've since done and discussing with my doctor.

I'm having a better day sickness wise today without any medication so far so I'm a bit happier today. It's exhausting feeling constantly nauseous and gagging, the sun is shining and I feel so much more positive. I just wish every day was like this. Hope others aren't suffering too much.

Welcome to the newbies!!

LastNightsMakeUp · 26/03/2018 16:49

@TheUbercornMum thanks for that good to know. In that case I'll probably not bother with the NHS bloods. 2 weeks is a long time if something is wrong.

Do you mind me asking what the 'hard reply' was?

Have a look on the which.com stats if you haven't already. In my local hospital it seems that about 65% of women who have had a previous section there go on to have an elcs in their next pregnancy - so I'm taking that as a good sign 🤞.

Glad to hear you're feeling better. I remember my sickness disappeared as quickly as it came last time (well once I was signed off on call shifts tbh.) so everything crossed you're coming out the other side.

NurseB · 26/03/2018 17:08

Hi @Windy1234, I'm also a newbie and was very tentative about joining. I'm 6+2 and couldn't feel less pregnant! No nausea. Not weeing more. I guess I am tired but then I can't sleep coz brain too busy! I'm 43, newish partner and never dreamt I'd have this opportunity. Fear made worse by knowing this might be last chance? Got early scan this Weds, if there's something there then maybe I'll believe it! Still doing pregnancy tests every day otherwise I start to doubt!!! Good luck to you, and everybody on here... . So good to have you all! Xxx

hellotoyellow · 26/03/2018 18:05

Hello to the newbies! Congratulations.

@badbadbeans thank you. DH is mostly away until September. I think I'll be okay with travel from 12/40 - better be as I have quite a few flights booked!

@Nightmanager I know what you mean. So nice to have this community. I have told two friends and am fairly bursting to talk about it. So useful to be able to talk to you all about my queries!

TheUbercornMum · 26/03/2018 18:20

@LastNightsMakeup she told me the hospital does not accept maternal requests for c sections and I'd have fight my case, it's a long process and they rarely approve them anyway. Then started singing the praises of the midwife run birth centre and home births and asked if I had considered them. I had a crash EMCS last time and I'm def not a good candidate for either, certainly not for home birth, and dismissed any reasoning I had out of hand (I have a few which could also be possibly classed as medical too). I was a bit upset tbh but I have researched since then and heard repeated stories about this hospital doing what I describe above and not agreeing them until 36 weeks etc. The other hospital is by far more reasonable I've been told and agree things around the half way mark to avoid stressful feelings and tbh I have bad memories of the other hospital anyway so doesn't overly surprise me!!
