Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I had my GTT two weeks ago because of my Bmi and I was grateful it came back negative. I am measuring ahead though but my Mw said “oh that’s normal for the first measurement”. I then had another scan on Tuesday (second lot of reduced movements) and they said baby is weighing approx 3lb10 already so I’m still measuring slightly ahead but my other three were over 8lb (x2) and over 9lb.
With visitors I am hoping that the first visitors I have will be my three kids (they will be with my mum) as we have said we won’t tell anyone what the baby is until the kids have had the chance to meet him/her and find out themselves. After that I’m honestly not bothered, so long as they don’t all come at the same time when I’m at home as my living room isn’t that big Grin

ClareB83 · 06/04/2018 19:11

Welcome @jadeward89.

I'm measuring 3 weeks ahead but that's within range and to be expected with twins. I actually think my bump is wider rather than longer to accommodate them. I feel kicks really far around these days!

Thank you for re-assurance Cookie1831!
I had the GTT test at 24w and was ok.
Iam glad though we have an extra scan.
My baby kicks/moves mostly mornings and evenings and especialy if I keep my hand on the tummy. Through the day I feel her a little during meals 😊.

Shutupanddance1 · 07/04/2018 05:58

I had my GTT and was slightly elevated - however when seeing my OB the last day he said that everyone’s tests were coming back positive/elevates this last month and half and he thinks it’s the machine Hmm.
I’m just trying to be good with my diet but not too strict! measuring ahead may just be a tall baby - When I had my scan this week baby was exactly the right amount in days and weeks, so I’m not worrying (even with supposed GD). My babies legs are measuring slightly longer which is funny as both my DD and DH are tall Grin

Northernbeachbum · 07/04/2018 09:36

@shutupanddance our baby is the same, but DP has short legs so I'm taking the piss saying it will come out with longer legs than him

Northernbeachbum · 07/04/2018 17:46

So I found out today a friend is planning a surprise baby shower.....I REALLY don't want one, any ideas how to prevent it without sounding ungrateful and rude?

ClareB83 · 07/04/2018 23:03

Could you say it won't work on the basis of date/location?

Could you pretend to be too much of a wallflower to be the centre of attention?

Could you insist it's coed and water it down a bit? I find including the guys stops it being too hen do.

Could you say you'd like to do something yourself after the baby is born yourself?

Cookie1831 · 08/04/2018 11:32

I have had 2 baby showers organised by friends in my previous pregnancies and to be honest did really enjoy them but have told several friends I don’t want one this time as it feels a little bit grabby having another as I have everything and it’s a bit embarrassing! Have said I would much rather go out and enjoy some bubbly all together after the baby is born. Has she definitely set the date etc could a family member mention that you really don’t fancy it or is the risk of offending too much? X

ClareB83 · 08/04/2018 11:37

I really enjoyed mine too but having DH there too made it for me.

OP posts:
Northernbeachbum · 08/04/2018 12:02

Yeah if it was more of a mixed thing with the men there too I wouldn't mind but it sounds like a stereotypical American one which isn't really me, I'm much more likely to be found out surfing (badly) than out for afternoon tea

Shutupanddance1 · 08/04/2018 12:26

I didn’t personally enjoy my first baby shower - I thought it was a bit grabby Blush but it was a surprise one and the lady who threw it had good intentions. I’m also Irish and we are suspicious about everything Grin so getting so much stuff before the baby made me very nervous.

ClareB83 · 08/04/2018 12:40

My mum organised mine and my only requirement was that it was coed. She went one better and interpreted this to mean that there should be a bar. Made it a lot more relaxed. Although I did freak out the bar staff asking for a large glass of wine (for mum). 😊

Cookie1831 · 08/04/2018 12:59

There was alcohol at both mine too a sober baby shower is the worst!!!
shutup totally agree it isn’t the done thing at home none of my friends have had them and superstition plays a part I think x

ClareB83 · 08/04/2018 13:09

At the one I organised we had half a dozen teapots out: half had tea and half had Long Island ice tea!

OP posts:
Northernbeachbum · 08/04/2018 14:09

@clareb83 yours and the one with the teapots sound great!

Cookie1831 · 08/04/2018 17:24

I could do with one of those teapots right about now!!!

ElizabethLemon · 08/04/2018 18:55

Yep I would really appreciate a tea pot full of Long Island ice tea right now!

Addy2 · 08/04/2018 19:04

Hello again! Don't think I've been on here since the first trimester. Time flies!

I'd love a long island iced tea, would probably be too tempted if I had them at a baby shower for guests! Got most things now for baby, but has anyone got a changing bag they'd recommend? Still in the market for one.

ClareB83 · 08/04/2018 19:44

We bought a rucksack style one off Amazon that DH is happy to be seen wearing for about £30. Opens up really wide, has insulated pockets, wipes pocket etc. There's quite a few on there, I can't remember which one it is exactly.

If we like it we'll get a second as I'm sure we'll need it even if it's not until they (and their spare clothes get bigger). Or if it sucks we'll get something else.

I'm craving red wine at the moment rather than iced tea. I really just want to smell it but DH doesn't really drink so it'd be a waste to open a bottle.

Northernbeachbum · 08/04/2018 19:48

I've been treating myself to a small glass of wine every few months, a midwife friend did the same last year so i thought I'd follow her way. Long island iced tea would be amazing now though, although not long to go really!!

We've just decided we will use our normal backpack. I couldn't work out the benefit of a specific changing bag one (I'm sure I've missed something) so will get one if we realise we need it later on

ElizabethLemon · 08/04/2018 21:28

I always found my normal rucksack to be fine for carrying baby stuff around.

I’ve been so uncomfortable and in quite a bit of pain when the baby moves over the last few days. My belly feels so tender and sore and I’ve been getting awful stabbing pains in my cervix (I’ve heard them referred to as “fanny daggers” which is pretty accurate). Been feeling a bit sorry for myself and had a couple of crying/raging episodes. My poor husband is knackered and stressed and I haven’t been very sympathetic!

jadeward89 · 08/04/2018 21:38

I still have my Pink Lining bag from when I had my youngest 6 (almost 7) years ago, I also had one with my pram but I’ll probably use my PL one as it’s bigger and I can stick all the things I need in it. I refused to get rid of it after it cost me so much haha.
@ElizabethLemon baby’s movements often feel painful with me I’m wondering if it’s the elbow or knee jabbing me

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 08/04/2018 21:42

I treated ds as an excuse to buy myself a bag I fancied which came with lots of different pockets. It's not a nappy bag exactly but it works great as one and is hard wearing. I think anything with lots of separators/pockets will work. You can buy pushchair clips to fasten any sort of bag to the pushchairs/prams which is handy too.

Just back from a weekend away to discover they found a trace of blood in my last urine sample and I need to phone the surgery first thing in the morning. I really need to stay off google when I get news like that.

@Northernbeachbum Only been abroad once since ds was born (I hate flying with children and am dreading the fact that we'll be going to a wedding in Canada with a 4 year old and 1 year old next year) but I just took the smaller/more foldy up travel mattress and it was fine.

ClareB83 · 08/04/2018 22:49

I've had a little tipple here and there eg a prosecco at my surprise hen do. But I really fancy a stinking large glass of red so I'm gonna hold out until these babies are out!

OP posts:
Cookie1831 · 09/04/2018 08:43

I have been having a small glass of red with dinner once every week and did in my previous pregnancies. First time I had a yummy mummy bag second a baby Mel but like the look of the rucksack type this time as can be more hands free x
