Was kept up last night by an hour long Braxton Hicks. Not intermittent ones for an hour but a constant one. The babies were wriggling too and it was too uncomfortable to sleep.

Wasn't painful so not worried it's early labour, but was unpleasant.

Had a couple of others but not for so long.

I’ve had a few glasses of wine/fizz over the last few months, I did the same with my 1st.

Ouch Clare, it’s sore isn’t it? I’ve woken a few times with a tight and painful bump had a quick panic and fallen back to sleep.

I discovered this morning that I’ve got 2 matching lumps at the bottom of my breasts. I’m will see the gp about it but I’m not too worried, lumpy boobs are normal in pregnant aren’t they?? They’re a bit sore now though but I expect that’s because I’ve been prodding and poking myself!

jadeward89 · 09/04/2018 15:50

I have been wanting a glass of white wine for ages (I don’t even like the stuff!) but I haven’t had a drink since Sept, before I found out, as it makes me ill (not hangover but generally unwell).
Has anyone started packing their hospital bags? I’ve started putting bits into a bag but I seem to have forgotten what I need, I start putting bits in and then forget what I need.
What are you planning on putting baby in once here? I’m only wondering as all my older dc are autumn and winter babies I’ve never had a new born in the summer

ClareB83 · 09/04/2018 16:44

@ElizabethLemon I had a blocked milk duct earlier in my pregnancy that was a lump
In my breast and made the skin hot and red. I put a hot flannel on it and massaged it which got rid of it.

I've packed my bag and the boys bag. I used the list provided by TAMBA and then added bits after reading a few threads on here. I'm planning on repacking on maternity leave though, just to check what I have and to launder all the new stuff.

For the boys I've packed 5 x short sleeve vests, 5 x sleepsuits, 2 x hats and a cardigan each. Expecting the cardigan won't be needed until the drive home.

Hello all, sorry to hear about your various sources of suffering/anxiety! I have yet to have any BH but I dare say I will feel unreasonably anxious if I do!

Has anyone been diagnosed with gestational diabetes? I probably don't have it, but having felt surprisingly untired for the whole pregnancy (subject to the odd bad night's sleep with leg cramps, joint pain etc), I'm now tired all the time regardless of how much sleep I get, I need daily naps and more caffeine and am so thirsty, I have had 12 glasses of water today already... I'm a big water drinker anyway but this week and last have noticed both the sudden tiredness and increased thirst. I don't qualify for the GTT and am concerned that it will be too late for that when I see my midwife next week...

ClareB83 · 09/04/2018 17:28

I've been massively thirsty since second trimester and need a nap most days now. But my GTT was normal.

@Heregoeseverything How far on are you? Someone from my ante-natal class with ds was diagnosed at 33 or 34 weeks by a gtt after a routine urine test threw something up so I think it can be done later in pregnancy.

@jadeward89 Yep because I nearly didn't have one with ds (I naively thought first time babies wouldn't come before their due date) and also everyone seems to think this baby is coming early.
Got new toiletries, tiny nappies, nipple cream, colouring book & pens (for waiting before c-section), nightie & dressing gown, plastic shoes for wearing in the shower (during my last stay they encouraged everyone to wee in the shower as it hurt less and I don't remember seeing much cleaning going on), couple of books, 2 wrap dresses, things to go in bra to soak up leakage.
Taking vests, sleepsuits, a blanket, hats, mitts and booties/socks for baby plus two cardigans and a peter rabbit outfit for coming home in that I tried and failed to resist in the M&S sale.

jadeward89 · 09/04/2018 17:44

I have to start buying stuff for myself this week. None of mine so far have been early, all late and only arrived after the threat of induction, even as far as me being in hospital to be induced on my last one before I went into labour. This time I feel different and I’m wondering if baby will be early (I think my dates are wrong anyway). I’ve been looking for a white cardigan for the baby everywhere but can’t find any that I like that don’t cost a fortune, I’m reluctant to pay too much on something that won’t last long.
I’ve got two vests, two baby grows, socks and a blanket in my bag, nappies are in my living room waiting to go in the bag. I think I’ll have a look for the bag lists so I know what I need.

Heregoeseverything · 09/04/2018 18:12

Thanks @ClareB83 and @Dinosaur, I'm only in week 28 but had read somewhere the GTT was for 26-28 weeks. I will raise it with my midwife, but at the same time I'm conscious that it will probably just be "pregnancy"! Think I have a bit of a cold also, but it's so hard to tell where pregnancy ends and illness begins! I just hope I'm not this lethargic for the rest of the pregnancy or nothing will be ready in time... Shock

Lali1 · 09/04/2018 18:36

@Heregoes I started to be very sleepy a few weeks back and the blood tests I had last week came back with iron deficiency...this maybe a reason..

ElizabethLemon · 09/04/2018 18:57

Thanks @ClareB83, my H had a look and he says the lumps are pretty much symmetrical so I think it’s maybe something to do with my bra. I’ve been wearing some non wired maternity ones from m&s but honestly they aren’t the best fit so I need to get some more. I have quite small boobs but a —fat— wide back so find it quite hard to find bras at the best of times. Anyone have any suggestions?

I haven’t sorted my bag at all 😳. I’m starting ML in 3 weeks and was planning on doing in then but maybe that’s a bit late.

Shutupanddance1 · 09/04/2018 19:20

@Heregoeseverything - my GTT came back slightly elevated but I’m not experiencing them symptoms, no symptoms actually so it might be just a fluke. I did mine at 28 weeks?

I’m surprised they don’t do the urine test for everyone tho? It’s not like you can automatically tell who will have a problem.

I’ve packed an emergency bag under my bed, just incase. It’s not my actual hospital bag thou but has my previous delivery discharge notes, spare pjs and baby’s outfits in. I was on bed rest pretty early last time so I wanted to be sorta prepared just in case.

ClareB83 · 09/04/2018 19:59

Maybe go straight for some nursing bras @ElizabethLemon (assuming you're planning to breastfeed) they all look very soft?

Argh this chat keeps dropping off my threads I'm watching! If the FB group is still going would anyone be able to add me back on?

Kudos to people who've packed their hospital bags already! Haven't even begun to think about it. Last time I spent ages packing anything I could ever possibly need and it all came home unused! The only stuff I did use, apart from clothes for me and DD were the frozen Capri suns (I wished I had brought more) and dh's MP3 player. Dh says he wishes he had taken snacks because I fell out with him when he left after 16hours to go to McDonald's.

Change bag wise - we have a babymule which is not the prettiest but it's huge and practical (can be a rucksack or a satchel style bag and can clip onto bars of the pram) and will be big enough for a toddler and baby in cloth!

SparklesandBubbles · 09/04/2018 20:49

Just catching up on the chat as I've been a bit absent these last few days!

@jadeward89 welcome to this thread. sorry to hear about the miscarriages - must be tough but sounds like things are going well so far so fingers crossed. You are brave having 4 - I'm about to have number 2 but my sister has 4 girls! I never know how she manages but she does and her eldest is fantastic with the littlest - it's so cute to see.
Might be worth looking in Boots for a white cardigan - they often have quite nice cotton ones that aren't too pricey.

I had my 32 week scan on Friday and everything is good with baby. It's weighing in around 4lb 10oz already. Think this ones going to be bigger than my first!! He was 7lbs 1oz.

I didn't have a baby shower with my First as no one thought to organise one for me and I didn't want to ask anyone to do one (even though I secretly wanted one). I've been contemplating a little get together with friends - more of a 'want to see friends' get together before I become a hermit for weeks with my new baby!

@Addy2 I got a pacapod for my DS. It is falling apart a little now so even though it would probably do I'm contemplating getting a new one.

@Northernbeachbum I'm sure a normal rucksack will do fine. You might want to get some separate smaller bags so for instance you can have one with wet wipes/nappies etc in so it's easier when you go to change the baby and to find everything you need in an nappy emergency!! I too have had the occasional glass of something - I totally went off wine for the first two trimesters but had a very small glass of red at Easter.

@ElizabethLemon I can totally sympathise with you. I too have had a lot of belly pain and 'fanny daggers'. It really hurts!! Didn't have anything like this with my First and have been feeling a bit down in the dumps about it. Also not sleeping well at all. Last night kept thinking I was going to throw up - it was really bad acid reflux - I think about 6 Rennie's fixed it about 2:30am!
With bras I found quite good ones from a company called Hotmilk.

@Dinosauratemydaffodils I hope all's ok?
Sounds like you've got most things for your hospital bag. I'd add own pillows with coloured pillowcase - it was a godsend to make me more comfy as the ones they have a hideous and flat!

@Heregoeseverything I'm feeling totally knackered at the moment and when my DS allows me to I always take a nap. It just helps me get through the rest of the day/ evening!

I've started with my hospital bag - have most things for me in there but I need to wash the baby clothes (just waiting for a sunny day as I don't have a tumble dryer!).

We have a urine test at every midwife appt but not the full GTT

I've got my meeting about having an ELCS for tokophobia on Wednesday afternoon, I'm getting very nervous.

Hospital bags are packed but I'm so sure I've forgotten things. I think baby's bag is good to go but mine is very much a work in progress

Watchingmasterchef · 10/04/2018 07:13

I have a normal rucksack and this for nappies
m.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Waterproof-Zip-Wet-Dry-Bag-for-Baby-Infant-Cloth-Diaper-Nappy-Pouch-Reusable/222047914119?item=222047914119

But long sorry ! Managed to breast feed first one so you have less stuff to haul about but I guess if I can’t with this one for some reason, might get proper change bag - think only difference is compartments for bottles etc as you need so much more stuff and needs to be clean. I have a glass of wine whenever I feel like it ! Maybe once a week but lately I’ve been having a sip and having to give up on it due to such bad acid . Can’t bend or lie down without thinking going to throw up !

GTT normal but also drinking water like crazy and having to lie down in afternoon

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 10/04/2018 09:00

@Heregoeseverything I think one of the things they test for at the 28 week blood tests is how you are handling sugar. Not 100 percent sure as my veins aren't cooperative at the best of times, I had ds who was fascinated and I was fighting the urge to faint so what the midwife was saying went in one ear and out the other.

@SparklesandBubbles It looks like it's okay. I don't have an infection of any sort so I have to submit another urine sample and they'll see how this one looks.

@Northernbeachbum Good luck tomorrow with your appointment. Fingers crossed you'll get a pleasant surprise. I've noticed a definite change in how they treat maternal mental health issues since I had ds 3 years ago (in a positive direction).

Heregoeseverything · 10/04/2018 17:32

Thanks all, I will raise this with my midwife. I did have a urine test at the 25 week appointment but not sure how reliable that is on its own, especially as I had drunk so much water that my sample looked like pure water! As I say it could well just be the latest selection of pregnancy symptoms... I just feel so lethargic and have no motivation whatsoever. Just want to lie in bed all day and mope, which makes me feel a bit pathetic!

Good luck with your appointment @northernbeachbum , remind me whether you know what your trust's policy is? I really did find it much more straightforward than I expected to. I went in ready for a big fight and got no resistance whatsoever, because my trust follows the NICE guidelines on maternal request C-sections (this may have previously been mentioned in which case apologies, but I advise that you read these before the meeting if you haven't already). Knowledge and unwavering determination are key... go Northern go!

ElizabethLemon · 10/04/2018 18:11

@Northernbeachbum good luck with your meeting.

@SparklesandBubbles thanks I will check out hot milk!

I had my 32 week scan earlier and baby is still huge, now estimated to be 5.1lb which is how much my 1st was at term! They seemed slightly concerned and said that depending on my next scan they may redo the GTT.

I don’t know what to think, I know their estimates can be wrong and they did get it very wrong with ds1. Plus I have gained 3kg in this pregnancy which is almost all baby according to my scan but my face and thighs tell another story!

Heregoeseverything · 10/04/2018 18:38

@ElizabethLemon A friend's baby was estimated at 5 lb 8 oz at 32 weeks. She was repeatedly tested for GD but didn't have it, baby is just a big boy but all is well!

I think I have gained 3kg on my left boob alone... Grin

Northernbeachbum · 10/04/2018 18:38

It's definitely worth bringing up @heregoes, it might be one of those things but no harm in checking

I'm assuming they abide by the NICE guidelines as they're the ones that suggested I'd be best to have a c section and all the midwives talk like it's going to happen. They booked the consultant meeting after I said I am terrified of childbirth with no prompting whatsoever. I'm still terrible at fighting my corner and prone to going shy. I've been reading up on the risks so I can go in and admit I've read them but honestly everyone I know who's had one has been so positive about the experience. I've written out what I want to say to make it much easier and DP is coming too.

Cookie1831 · 10/04/2018 18:47

Good luck northern am sure it will be fine x

Cookie1831 · 10/04/2018 18:47

elizabeth only 3 kg! I have put on about 4 times that whoopsie!
