Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@ElizabethLemon They cut me trying to break my mum's waters. I think it's such an emotive and personal decision. Although my waters had been gone for 81 hours before I ended up in theatre, my bump had completely deflated and I've no idea how they didn't cut ds but they didn't. I also had a really recovery easy from my emcs, up and dressed myself in 5 hours much to the midwife in charge's horror. Didn't need pain killers, was making my own way downstairs via the stairs to NICU within 24. I do have a weird relationship with pain though. Things which shouldn't really hurt like stubbing your toe, do massively and things which should, tend not to.

I'm going for another section purely due to the circumstances of ds's arrival. I got fully dilated, pushed, they tried to pull him out with forceps and nothing happened. We got lucky, the outcomes in those circumstances can be horrific and no one can guarantee it won't happen again so I'm uncomfortable taking the risk. Plus all of dh's family have huge heads (ds was on the 90 something percentile attached to a tiny skinny body) and it seems to be c-sections or 3rd/4th degree tears on dh/his sisters and ds and his cousins.

@Shutupanddance1 We technically share a due date but I've got an elective booked for the 7th.

Shutupanddance1 · 17/05/2018 20:23

No, my section wasn’t planned the first time unfortunately.

My blood pressure wouldn’t come down and I was given the choice of stay in hospital indefinitely until baby arrived or have my section which would be safer for me moreso than baby at the time. It was 38 weeks so NICE guidelines state that c sec is best option so that is what we went with.

The recovery wasn’t as bad as it could have been, I’ve been left with a very small scar, I was lucky to be able to breastfeed straight away (any my milk came in fine) and I didn’t get an infection or anything so I’ve been very lucky. I had good aftercare but you do need to stay on top of your pain relief etc so you can recover.

In your case, if you are worried about pressure on the head, I’m sure they will sanction a section for you. They are probably trying to give you the most options as they possibly can. I’d ask about how they plan on monitoring you during your labor etc so you get a feel for what they expect.

ElizabethLemon · 17/05/2018 22:06

Thanks so much everyone, it’s good to hear your experiences and you are right in that I need to speak to them about my concerns surrounding both delivery methods. Hopefully everything will be sorted out on Monday.

I’ve just got home after having a big meltdown and storming off to the pub down the road. I didn’t even buy a drink, just hid in the beer garden! I forgot about a pan of boiling water and it boiled down completely and burnt the bottom of the pan. Obviously it stank and I convinced myself the fumes were going to kill me or the baby, husband got annoyed at me and then ds1 got out of bed and started to pretend to choke. I couldn’t cope and just left. I feel so overwhelmed at the moment and I do feel like I’m losing it a bit, I’m going to ring the midwife in the morning and tell her I’m worried about my anxiety levels.

Thanks again for all the support and for replying to my endless slightly incoherent posts. I’m going to stop moaning on now!

WreckItRach · 18/05/2018 09:58

@ElizabethLemon sorry you had a rubbish evening, it all sounds so overwhelming. Could you spend a bit of time today just doing something that relaxes you?

WreckItRach · 18/05/2018 10:00

Just got back from the MW and my iron levels are really good so I can be referred to the birth centre for a water birth 🙌🙌 she also helped me fill out my birth plan so I'm a very happy lady right now!

HoneyBee03 · 18/05/2018 11:59

@ElizabethLemon I love that you marched straight to the pub, great choice! I'm not surprised you lost your patience with everything you've had to think about recently.

High 5 to you @WreckItRach ! I didn't realise that iron levels could cause a problem with a birth centre water birth.

I'll be going through my birth plan with my midwife in a few weeks I can't wait, I have so many questions for her. I've got a hospital appointment next week with the anaesthetist because I had a lower back operation as a teenager and they need to make sure it won't interfere if I need an epidural. I'm hoping I won't need one, but they don't want to be faffing with my back and medical history if there's an emergency on the big day. Not entirely sure what to expect, I'm expecting a quick appointment.

jadeward89 · 18/05/2018 12:00

@ElizabethLemon I hope today is better than last night and I hope you are feeling ok.
Good news @WreckitRach, I liked the water with my first, couldn’t use it for the rest as I had meconium in my waters.

I’m finding today that I am really itchy, I had bloods taken on Wednesday to check if there was anything wrong but I haven’t heard back (and not sure who I’d call). There is probably nothing wrong but I’m struggling not to scratch 😢. I would call the mw but my usual one won’t be working today and doubt that anyone else will help (my mws aren’t great).
Hope everyone else is having a good day

Hearts22 · 18/05/2018 12:03

I’m so sorry to hear things are getting on top of you @ElizabethLemon I hope today is a bit more relaxing for you.
I’ve just been sent home from work as I am just exhausted and Braxton Hicks are back with a vengeance. I’m supposed to be working tomorrow during the madness of the royal wedding so hopefully getting some rest today will help.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 18/05/2018 12:12

@HoneyBee03 I saw a consultant anesthetist earlier in this pregnancy and was there about an hour. They checked my back and throat to see if there were any obvious issues with either epidural/spinal or general anesthetic. Then they chatted about various types of anesthesia for different scenarios, I am planning an elective though but she covered going into labour early as well.

HoneyBee03 · 18/05/2018 12:35

@Dinosauratemydaffodils thanks for giving me some insight! I hadn't been told much about it.

I am knackered. Sounds like everyone is suffering a bit today or having various problems, you can tell we're all on the final stretch!

ElizabethLemon · 18/05/2018 16:26

Thanks everyone 😊, I’m feeling a lot better today.

@WreckItRach I took your advice and went for a swim which relaxed me a bit. Then went off and bought a replacement saucepan and a few bits for the baby which made me feel happier. Glad you’ve got your water birth approved, I’m sure it’ll be lovely!

@HoneyBee03 it’s a place of solace even when heavily pregnant and unable to actually drink 😅!

@Dinosauratemydaffodils for an elective do they automatically go for an epidural and then if for some reason that doesn’t work, do a GA?

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 18/05/2018 16:31

@ElizabethLemon It's usually a spinal for an elective unless there is a reason why not or they can't get one to work. I'm contemplating a general for personal reasons but generals are usually just for people with a medical reason to stop them having a spinal or major emergencies I think. That's why I had to a see a consultant anesthetist in the first place because the consultant obstetrician couldn't sign off on one.

Hearts22 · 18/05/2018 17:13

I’ve just started a thread about this but wondering if any of you guys can help as well. For the last hour or so I keep getting this urge to push about every 10 minutes. Don’t get me wrong it’s not an overwhelming urge at this point but I haven’t experienced anything like it before. This is my first and I have no idea what to expect and I don’t want to call anyone unnecessarily. I’m only 34 + 3 and was sent home from work this morning because braxton hicks were really frequent so I’m hoping everything is ok. Thank you in advance.

ElizabethLemon · 18/05/2018 17:21

Thanks @Dinosauratemydaffodils, just had to do some googling about epidurals and spinals as I didn’t realise there was a difference! I think I need to do some more c section research before I go in to discuss it all on Monday.

I was reading that it’s recommended to take straws in for a section to make drinking easier after the surgery....I saw bought this is Tiger today for £1, seems like it might be quite useful!

ElizabethLemon · 18/05/2018 17:25

I bought this in Tiger*

🙄 I need to get better at proofreading my posts.

HoneyBee03 · 18/05/2018 17:57

@Hearts22 I have just seen your other thread! Are you on your way to hospital now? Must be such a strange feeling, I hope you get some answers soon. Good luck!

jadeward89 · 18/05/2018 18:27

@Hearts22 I hope you and baby are ok.
@ElizabethLemon I love tiger (I go in just to look now as I’ve put a ban on me buying anything else haha) I’ve bought a new drinks bottle from Primark with a straw for the hospital. I figured a straw would be better than a bottle or cup that had to be tipped up.

Northernbeachbum · 18/05/2018 18:29

@hearts22 hope everything is going ok for you!!!

@Elizabethlemon glad you're feeling better today

ElizabethLemon · 18/05/2018 18:38

@Hearts22 sorry I didn’t see your message when I posted straight after. Hope everything’s ok and they’re checking you over.

@jadeward89 I love it too, managed to not buy too much in there today. Only sensible things like batteries and a glasses case 😇.

Addy2 · 18/05/2018 18:42

Best wishes @Heart22, hope everything is OK.

I only have one week left until maternity leave!!! So excited. How long until you are all off/are you off already?

SparklesandBubbles · 18/05/2018 18:55

Just catching up on messages from Wednesday:
@ElizabethLemon I'm so pleased the results of the MRI were positive. Sounds like it was all handled very well. Fingers crossed baby stays put until you get your csection (which I hope they sanction for you). I've never had one and am doing everything I can to avoid one but that's just me. I imagine they will want to monitor baby closely after birth too which is why the neurological team have to be there. If you did decide to go natural birth I'm sure you'd still be a high priority for the hospital given your circumstances. Sorry you're feeling a bit overwhelmed. Good idea to speak to your midwife - hope she was helpful.

@Hearts22 Sounds like you are having more than BH. I'd call your midwife/the hospital if I were you to check.

Hearts22 · 18/05/2018 23:01

Well that was an eventful evening! Baby Dylan born at 18:20 on my bathroom floor! 6lb 2oz so goodness knows what he would have been if he’d waited another 6 weeks. We are both fine but have to stay in hospital to be kept an eye on for a couple of days. Thank you so much for all your replies and we’ll wishes ladies, I guess that’s one way of avoiding having to work the royal wedding 🙂

RockinRobinTweets · 18/05/2018 23:10

No way hearts!! Congratulations. He’s gorgeous.

I went in for reduced movements today but all is okay.

jadeward89 · 19/05/2018 00:29

Wow congratulations @Hearts22 what a brilliant weight! Hope you are both doing ok xx

ClareB83 · 19/05/2018 02:12

Crikey @Hearts22 what happened?!

And congratulations!!
