Hello October 18 Group

I wonder if I am too late to join?
I don't have facebook but wanted to join a pregnancy group! I am 29 and expecting my first baby and am currently 13 weeks along.
Would really love to join and chat with fellow mummies to be!
Hoping everyone is well and having a stress free experience so far!
Charlotte :)

I found the sight of the December Baby Bus quite weird, the thought of a January one makes me feel like October is terrifyingly close!

Just trying to work out summer plans. We have a wedding in Spain the beginning of August - I'll be 28+5. I think we might make the week before a holiday for the two of us as a last hurrah! But it's so hard when I just can't imagine how I'll be feeling. Is anyone else planning a summer holiday?

Like @caoraich I keep having sporadic anxiety, can't wait to start feeling some movement for reassurance! I think I felt a few flutters a week or so ago but nothing certain since then.

Went to yoga again yesterday, and trying for a run later. Wish me luck! I had forgotten about park run, if it goes well this eve I might try and go along!

RhiBee29 · 25/04/2018 12:21

The scan went well. Blood Test results Friday, have to call the hospital at 3.30. The Midwife was so lovely and said she could see how worried I am and had fast tracked my bloods, she said she's not concerned and happy to recommend Midwife led care. NT 1.7 so that's great. Feeling so relieved. EDD now 29th October...dangerously close to DS birthday 😕

milk I have had two pregnancies so far and have stuck to my normal size in maternity clothes. They fit early on with plenty of room for bump and have lasted all the way through. I will do the same for this one and buy some cheap bits later on if I’m forced. So far and weight seems to be going on my bump again. It’s hard finding nice maternity wear though. Everything is dark and with summer coming up I want lovely bright clothes.

@milknosugar I was pregnant the same time of year last time and I would say the cheapest way to do it is to buy a couple of proper pregnancy vests because they’re cheap and you can wear cardigans or jackets over them for Sept/Oct and chillier days. I also bought a couple of mens v neck t shirts to wear at the end and after the birth for easy breastfeeding access (Primark, £2). Maxi dresses or even stretch mini/midi dresses if you’re into them, Primark do some for about £8-12. I did invest in 3 decent pairs of jeans (next for under bump – about £20 and asda for over bump about £10) and a pair of denim shorts and I lived in all 3. As your bump gets bigger it does then ‘pull’ on clothes so you do need more room around the back/chest, not sure about arms though??
It’s worth keeping in mind it might be a few months before you’re back in your old clothes so you need things you are happy to wear for the winter and if you’re breastfeeding then they need to have easy boob access. I got a couple of shirts a size up and wore those open with a vest in summer and then through the winter while I was feeding. If you find a brand or style you like then ebay is the place to go. I highly recommend those Asda jeggings. I’ve heard H&M are best for shorts but mine were once again primark and I just cut them off into shorts. I’m not massive but I did get chubb rub on my thighs last time so when I wore dresses I had to get some anti-chafing cream. It was a pregnancy low point.
HTH?

@sophkennedy sounds awful – if it’s ongoing it’s worth talking to your doc and seeing if they can help?

@effram I’ve booked a week in Spain in the middle of June, I’ll be about 24 weeks. We did a week around the same time with my first and remember the flight home thinking ‘this is hideous’ – I had a very wriggly baby and I was huge so quite uncomfortable. Shorter flight this time but that wriggly baby is now a wriggly 3 year old so that will be interesting! I’m sure you’ll make it work, get in the shade if you need to and the flight is short so bearable. Enjoy it! I have to do a long haul work trip at 23 weeks and I’m more concerned about that one  I just did one last week and it’s taken me a week to recover.

Re: gender, my and OH were 100% sure it was a girl first time, we only picked a girls name and barely reacted when the sonographer told us we were right. This time OH thinks it’s a boy and I think it’s a girl. Although I’m not as sure as last time…

sophkennedy · 25/04/2018 12:53

I went to my doctor in hope of them giving me some tablets or something to help with the sickness as I've had people tell me they got put on tablets and it completely stopped the sickness but every time I've been they haven't given me anything. Is there anywhere else I could get tablets from?

lovesrunning · 25/04/2018 14:58

@MamaL hmmm bit of a dilemma there. Do you think he’d easily fit in to a new school or would he struggle? Tough decision!! And on scan, yes I’ve booked in for next week at 16 to find out.

lovesrunning · 25/04/2018 15:12

@milk I’m clueless on maternity clothes - although looks like you’ve had some awesome suggestions already - but running I can help with. I’d say if it’s something you’ve always done and your hip is feeling stronger you should definitely give it a go. Like you say, you can always jog/walk if it gets uncomfortable - or even before that for the first few times until you know where your hip’s at. Yoga and strength training will be the secret weapon. The more of those you can fit in the longer you’ll be able to run for. I need to take my own advice as I’m crap at bothering to do all the strength work and just run. I’m still managing 35km a week ish depending on tiredness and hope to keep this up until as close to the end as possible but it will all depend on getting my ass into gear and doing strength. Let us know how you get on! There are some people on Instagram etc who post weekly preggo workouts you can do at home.

lovesrunning · 25/04/2018 15:15

@rhibee yayyyy congrats! Very promising Smile

@effram yes I want to spend a few weeks home in the UK (I live abroad) and to go to the Alps for a week - although the mountain race will be off the cards. How late can we fly? I don’t know if I’m being naive assuming it will be fine to fly back at the end of August ready for school at 32 ish weeks?!

lovesrunning · 25/04/2018 15:16

(And good luck with your run Smile)

lovesrunning · 25/04/2018 15:17

@soph I don’t know I’m sorry. But I really really hope someone else can help - that sounds awful you poor thing.

EffRam · 25/04/2018 15:18

@lovesrunning From my research most airlines are fine up to about 34 weeks but you need a medical certificate to say you're low risk after 28 weeks, and extra insurance of course. I think I'm just going to check out where the nearest hospital is and take my notes in case and hope that means everything is fine!

I would be extra impressed if you managed the mountain race though...

Belles86 · 25/04/2018 15:31

welcome new peeps! :)

@ladydolly good suggestions re clothes! I've admitted defeat just today with old pair of jeans. I bought some maternity leggings which were a complete waste of £ at this stage as they are just so big, even big around the knees and ankles (shudder).

Also going away on 8th June when I'll be 24 weeks to south of France. My folks are driving with us to get ferry (eak) and then we're getting the plane back. Oh the things you arrange when you're not preggers LOL

Ps, wherabouts does everyone live? I'm in Manchester

Belles86 · 25/04/2018 15:59

can't believe I forgot what I came to post..had 16 week appt (17 weeks tomo) and heard heartbeat today, was a bit mindblowing

sophkennedy · 25/04/2018 16:11

@lovesrunning thank you!

@Belles86 I'm from Preston!!

Belles86 · 25/04/2018 16:53

@sophkennedy aw hey local buddy! Hope you feel better soon!

I did a large shop of maternity stuff from Isabella Olivia, it’s nice stuff but has strangely tight sleeves on some of the dresses. I’m going to look around normal shops this weekend, I really thought the maternity stuff would be nicer but because it’s stretchy it clings to everywhere apart from the bump and my newly acquired lumpy bits, thicker arms and thighs do not look good...
I’ve put on 14lbs already, one pound a week which is way too fast. I’m hoping it slows down a bit now. I did my first aqua fit class today, it was spin in a pool! Good fun and hard enough work. Am in at osteopath tomorrow as I have a sharp pain at the back of my hip, in bum cheek area! Sounds a bit like what has already been discussed so I’ll let you know what they say.

Congrats @rhibee, that is definitely a great result today!

Does anybody know if strepsils are safe to have when pregnant?

2ndPGchimp · 25/04/2018 19:17

Hello all, sounds like a lot of you are doing a lot more exercise than me! I am finally feeling less sick at 16 weeks. I had a stranger ask me whether I was having a boy or girl on Sunday, which makes my boss's insistence on not telling my team a bit ridiculous!

Had my 16 week appt on Monday and heard heartbeat which was good.

For those looking for mat clothes, I am a fairly standard size 12 and I have found jojomamannebe outlet to be brilliant!

unicornchaser · 25/04/2018 20:42

These are great jeggins from Asda, I have a couple colours and super comfy! Living in them with some stretchy (but baggy if that makes any sense?!) vests also from Asda & primark with cardigans & a scarf (still hiding it from work!)
Not necessarily the most glamorous but I work in an office so depends what you can get away with I guess!

Location wise I'm in Glasgow but don't think I have many close to me!

Hats off to those still running regularly, I do a weekly session of agility with the dog. 2 hours sprinting about a field and I'm already struggling with keeping my breath! God help me in 4 months time 😆

RhiBee29 · 25/04/2018 20:44

@sophkennedy no strepsils aren't ok.

I got most of my maternity wear from H&M and New Look with DS, need to get it all down from the loft and see what I have. Luckily I'm pregnant at the same time so have plenty of summer clothes.

I'm in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
