This is my 2nd dc. We weren’t trying so unexpected but I’ve had a feeling something was going on for the last week. Tested this morning and got a BFP.

So it’s DC2 (already have a 4 year old DS)
Due date 5/11/18 I think

My feb 2014 group is fab and I’ve made some lovely friends on there so hoping to do the same this time all being well!

Congratulations and welcome to all the new joiners today.

@Cupcakesandlove glad to see your lines are getting stronger, hoping everything goes well for you.

This is only my 2nd pregnancy but I'm already starting to feel big at 5+2, last time I was over 16weeks before I had a slightest of bumps, I'm hoping it's all bloat and will go back down soon.

MiniMinions · 02/03/2018 21:56

Random question...can we have dippy eggs? I have been having that as a weekend breakfast and I recall last time I just had scrambled eggs all the time!

wejammin · 02/03/2018 22:00

Ugh I'm getting really short of breath and my heart is racing tonight. I remember this from my last pregnancy, it's horrid.

My boobs haven't reacted yet though! Before kids I was a lovely full D cup but 5 years of consecutive breast feeding have left me with barely a B. I'm looking forward to a proper rack again (but not to the pain!)

wejammin · 02/03/2018 22:01

MiniMinions The midwife told me last week that the only new advice since DD was that runny eggs are now considered safe as long as in date and with the lion stamp (I'm vegan though so a bit irrelevant for me!)

Emelene · 02/03/2018 22:02

@MiniMinions - the guidance changed relatively recently - the answer is yes if they are the red lion eggs with the stamp (all supermarket ones are I think). Smile

MrsMermaid · 02/03/2018 22:23

@january29 thank you Smile this pregnancy feels different in every way!

sarahhh1984 · 02/03/2018 23:02

Congratulations @Cupcakesandlove! Really happy for your news!

@MiniMinions, we have the same EDD! Glad you were able to get that test in the end. Knew I saw line on that test you posted in the conception thread!

Welcome to all the other new ladies and congratulations!

Symptoms-wise, my boobs have started to ache a bit today so no doubt they'll swell up and turn into rocks like last time now. 😂 Will have to get myself off to Bravissimo to get measured for some soft cup bras I think. Other than that, my main symptom has been bloating to the point where I feel eight or nine months pregnant. I've had the occasional bout of nausea too and I'm starting to get very fatigued. Last time I had no sickness, just nausea and tiredness so hoping it stays that way this time. Going to get some fresh ginger tomorrow and make my own ginger tea. It was the only think that curbed the nausea last time.

Hope everyone else is doing OK!

MiniMinions · 03/03/2018 07:31

Thanks @Emelene and @wejammin I look forward to my dippy eggs this weekend now 😊

Hi @sarahhh1984 yay DD buddy!

hellotoyellow · 03/03/2018 07:46

Congratulations all new joiners!

@Fireworks I feel your pain. Glamour! DH has been away with work and is coming home today so I'm excited for that as now I'll have someone to get excited with :)

MeredithShepherd · 03/03/2018 08:16

Anyone else really crampy? I don’t remember being this crampy with DS? Is it worse with subsequent children?

OP posts:
Tyrionsbitch · 03/03/2018 08:27

Just had a small amount of brown discharge and a bit crampy. Have read that this is normal but now worried about m/c 😕

MeredithShepherd · 03/03/2018 08:36

Yes think brown is old blood generally isn’t it and it’s only if it’s bright red new blood you need to worry! I’m sure it’s all fine Tyrion x

OP posts:
sarahhh1984 · 03/03/2018 08:48

@Tyrionsbitch I have had brown spotting/discharge (it's just stopped today) and had it with my first pregnancy too at this point. It's usually nothing to worry about as long as it's light and brown as mw explained to me it's either implantation bleeding or the body getting rid of old blood from your last period. She described it as not normal but common.

If you're at all concerned contact your EPAU/EPU. They'll be able to advise.

Both this pregnancy and last time, the advice I got (at around four weeks) was to keep an eye on it and to re-contact them if I developed any severe pain or the bleeding got heavy/red. Both times they've told me that if the discharge stays the same or stops, to wait a week, do another test and, assuming it's still positive (which it almost certainly will be if we're only experiencing spotting), call them and they'll arrange an early scan (for when I'm six weeks) to ensure everything's OK so I'm currently waiting for next Thursday to do just that.

Obviously, the process will differ depending where you are in the country but could be worth checking in with them to set your mind at ease. It's probably fine (my last pregnancy is now a giggly 10 month old) but it's best to get some reassurance I think.

Hope this helps and isn't an information overload!

sarahhh1984 · 03/03/2018 08:57

Oh, and @MeredithShepherd, I am so crampy. Definitely worse than I was with DD. Think I read it's worse when it's your second because everything's been stretched before.

toasterstrudle · 03/03/2018 08:59

I haven't had any spotting this time but had on and off brown spotting with DS and even a bright red small bleed at 6 weeks. I phoned the EPU about the latter and they scanned me at 8 weeks and all was well, saw a wee tiny heartbeat! Fingers crossed for everyone, I'm sure it all be fine.

Another one here who was SO delighted they changed the guidelines on eggs!! 🍳

MeredithShepherd · 03/03/2018 09:57

Glad it’s not just me @sarahhh1984

MiniMinions · 03/03/2018 10:10

I'm also crampy as well (also don't remember this first time round) so am pleased to hear that others also are having the same. Last time I was able to hide it from work until after first scan as scans and appointments seemed to fall in half terms/holidays but not so much this time I don't think!! Have got to hand in appointment cards when asking for time off as well so cover will be blown soon!!!

Emelene · 03/03/2018 10:13

Anyone had any thoughts about hair dye? I've sadly got quite a few greys (I'm only 24 - thanks mum's genes) and need to do my roots! The NHS website basically says it's probably fine but "many women chose to wait until after 12 weeks". So I think I'll end up waiting and having bad hair for a few months! :/

Any experiences with hair dye and pregnancy?

toasterstrudle · 03/03/2018 11:53

@Emelene I think they have to advise off everything pre-12 weeks because they can't run tests on people or say anything is 100% safe.

If it reassures you at all, I asked my midwife at 8 weeks last time and she said it's absolutely fine. I dyed my hair a few times in my pregnancy. If you're worried, you can always ask the hairdresser or have highlights applied not quite to the scalp or use gentler semi permanent dyes.

I'll be dying my hair again this pregnancy, probably pre-12 weeks as it's a bit of a state just now, although chance would be a fine thing with 7 month old DS getting into everything!

TheMogget · 03/03/2018 15:00

Congratulations everyone. I'm 5w5d with. 3yo DD already, feeling a bit anxious after a miscarriage in November but trying to stay positive. Sore boobs, bloated and nausea here. I'm trying to be pleased about the nausea as I think it's a positive sign and I didn't have it with my MC but combined with a heavy cold I'm feeling pretty crappy!

Magpie24 · 03/03/2018 16:12

Hello! Can I join please? I'm 4+2 (I think) and due early Nov. Been trying for 11 months and this is my first BFP so super excited.

Went to the doctors' when I got my BFP and they said to come back in a couple of weeks for check-in.

Currently experiencing a few headaches and sleepiness in the afternoons.

Would anyone recommend any pregnancy books?

TheMogget · 03/03/2018 16:29

@Magpie24 I'd definitely recommend Emily Oster's Expecting Better, really well written balanced book that debunks some myths and gives you the facts to make your own decisions. Congratulations

toasterstrudle · 03/03/2018 17:04

Congratulations @Magpie24 ! I don't have any good pregnancy books but I enjoyed using the Pregnancy + app and will use that again this time - you get a wee bite size chunk of daily info a day, a weekly summary and you can scan ahead if you're interested. There's also a useful timeline. Mumsnet was also great in my last one!

FireworksBaby · 03/03/2018 17:21

Congratulations to all just finding out!

I have just checked the food guidelines, to see if anything else has changed apart from eggs. Very happy to see peanuts are no longer banned, but positively recommended! Although it looks like I still need to have at least one less cup of coffee to be within the caffeine guidelines.

MeredithShepherd · 03/03/2018 17:37

Hello to all the new joiners! I had a book called the day by day pregnancy book last time which is really informative and shows you exactly what’s going on in your tummy every day. It’s in the loft actually I must get DP to get it down! I can’t believe I’m only 4+6. I only found out last Saturday and I feel like I’ve been pregnant forever already!
