Whoa tigers!

Just been catching up and at you all . And YAWN at the big debate. We're pregnant. We're mates. We're having a laugh. I wish people would just worry about more important things. Like Bunting... .

And I got my secret baby shower pressie today! Gorgeous babygrow with Elvis emblazoned on it. And i love Elvis. I do. ALways have. Him and Kevin Bacon. And George Clooney. So thank you so much lovely person!!!

sputnik · 02/05/2007 16:11

Does it have rhinestones Catsuitgirl?

claire74 · 02/05/2007 16:12

thank you sputnik!

doggus · 02/05/2007 16:16

Well said, catsuitgirl. It's far too hot and I am far too swollen to have a ruck. I am new to Mumsnet but it does seem that there is a clique bent on maintaining its reputation!

I am impressed by those billyzbibs and am going to invest.

I have been thinking about one of those vibrating chairs (quiet at the back, for lo, not me) or would it be better to get one of those play mats where they lie on their back and tug at things? Any views welcome, as I don't want to end up with a load of unecessary shit which will have to be ebayed next year!

BadZelda · 02/05/2007 16:24

Doggus - don't know if it's an either / or as it will depend on the baby. DD loved her playmat and I still use it for visiting babies (and will use it for number 2) - was a 'tinylove' one which was on special offer from Mothercare. I didn't bother with a vibrating bouncer, although some people swear by them - but did use just a standard bouncer from about 6 weeks, which was very useful for cooking / etc when you want to put the baby down, but so that he / she can still see what's going on. Maybe it was just Ella being hyper - but she never wanted to be in the playgym for more than about half an hour, which is why I say it's not really an either / or. But neither will get that much use for the first 6 weeks, as I say, so maybe see if you can see whether LO is restless or v. chilled and then treat yourself to a little shopping then?

sputnik · 02/05/2007 16:27

Hi Doggus, we had a playmat thing with an arch for DD, it was really useful and kept her entertained for ooooh minutes at a time. Ours played Mozart. Didn't get a chair but kind of wish I had, will be getting one this time but a normal non-vibrating one.

Just in case you missed it in all the fun on the previous thread.... if you're still interested in one of those Babybuddha slings just send them an email saying you came through mumsnet

sputnik · 02/05/2007 16:36

Sorry, hadn't quite finished there..

and they'll give you the discount. Remind them about the sales tax too

doggus · 02/05/2007 16:36

Thanks sputnik (LOL at the ooh minutes) - I had forgotten about baby Buddha, will go and order now.

BZ - you're right, I will wait six weeks or so, probably get the mat and see how that does.

Remember my fast pulse/heart pounding? I was convined I had pre-eclampsia but luckily blood pressure high but not that high - mw says it is arrhythmia (sp), and some people get it in pg. Hope this helps anyone else worried about racing pulse/missing heartbeats. My mum was delighted to tell me Tony Blair was taken to hospital with it last year (prob from too much Cherie nookying).

sputnik · 02/05/2007 17:01

When they get to about 3 months it really is a question of finding something to distract them for the time it takes to load the washing machine or whatever (or it was for DD anyway). Our best buy was a baby door bouncer thing, good from about 6 months, I could sometimes cook a whole meal while she was in that

Actually I hoping the sling will be good in the allowing me to get things done department.

sputnik · 02/05/2007 17:04

Good to hear the heart thing was nothing serious, btw

hollyandalice · 02/05/2007 17:44

I am very ! The ice cream van just came round for the first time this year, so I got really excited and rushed out to get an ice cream. I mean what could be better than ice cream delivered to your door?! I took one look at the ice cream man and scarpered back indoors! He was so dirty and scabby I didn't want to eat anything he had touched! His fingernails were black and he had a dirty beard and a dirty white jacket. I feel a bit sick now and very dissapointed!

Glad your heart thing is not pre-eclampsia doggus! I have a vibrating chair and it was great at putting dd to sleep, I also have a playmat, which wasn't so successful! She wouldn't lie flat on her back for more than about 30 secs, so it didn't really get used. It does depend on the baby though. Most of my friends' babies used to love theirs and would spend hours looking at and trying to grab the toys!

Thanks Holly. Funnily enoughh for the last few days I too have been craving common or garden Mr Whippy - I know there's all this debate about listeria and whether you are supposed to have it but sod it. We don't have an icecream van here but I am making dh drive me to Maccy D's for one of their sundaes which will have to do. Your icecream man sounds bloody grim!

hollyandalice · 02/05/2007 17:54

He is a minger!! I love Mr Whippy's, makes me think of my childhood, esp with choc sauce and sprinkles and nuts and a great big flake! I do love McDs ice cream (it is the only thing that makes me go there!). The sundaes are yummy, but I was really cross when they stopped doing hot fudge. I expect the Mr Whippy type ice cream from McDs is ok (at least I hope it is!).

SherlockLGJ · 02/05/2007 18:18

Did I miss yet another one of those unspeakably vulgar thread titles ??

derlor · 02/05/2007 18:23

Sorry Holly forgot to give you this info earlier - is this any help?

Daisybump · 02/05/2007 18:24

Aw Derlor...the poor mite. hope things settle down soon for him. Can you give nurofen alongside the calpol...see if that helps?

SherlockJG...not really...it had been around since Sunday....

hollyandalice · 02/05/2007 18:30

Thanks derlor, that's really useful. I shall email them tomorrow. xx

derlor · 02/05/2007 18:32

ds asleep at the mo. yes Daisy i'm alternating calopl and nurofen - i'm re the doc's ??glandular fever - looks more like mumps to me but hey what do i know?!?!!? i'm just his mom

hollyandalice · 02/05/2007 18:42

I may be being a bit thick, but doesn't glandular fever need a blood test to confirm diagnosis? Correct me if I'm wrong!

Thanks for that derlor x

I am very pissed off with my dp! His course finished at 3.30 and he is still arsing about in Leeds! He has been at his mate's house for over an hour! He is really tired and I'm going to worry about him getting home without falling asleep. Twunt! I haven't seen him for 3 days and it is going to take him 4 hours to drive home. Twunt, twunt, twunt!
