Hello!

Have tested very early so not surprised to have to start this one off! Due 8 April I think.

Anyone joining me?

Congratulations and welcome, jumpin! DelGirl and I are due on the 20th too!!

DelGirl · 18/08/2004 13:21

Congratulations Jumpin

I'm a bit paranoid about this pg due to 2 previous m/c's. I don't think i shall start to relax until after my scan, if at all. Has anyone else had an upset tummy? It's not too bad but I do worry. I tend to get an upset tummy with AF too. Also do peoples symptoms tend to come and go, such as you may have m/s one day but not the next? Sorry for all the questions, I realise we're all in the same boat but could do with some reassurance. Thanks

xoz · 18/08/2004 14:48

Congrats and welcome jumpin.
Delgirl, I'm a bt the same, some days I feel quite m/s and others (today for example) I'm okay. And I've been getting quite a bit of stretching sort of pains, but I remember having that early in pg with both dd1 & 2, so I think that's normal.
Has anyone bought any pg books yet? I've got one but it's 4 years old now, wondering if I should buy a new one. Don't know how much the info would've changed.

SKM · 18/08/2004 14:55

I bought loads of books and wish I hadn't, the midwife gave me an excellant NHS book, and also got one in my booking in Bounty pack!! Wish I'd saved my money now!!

Azure · 18/08/2004 15:18

Congratulations and welcome Jumpin. DelGirl, I know what you mean about being paranoid. Each time I go to the loo I am convinced that I will see blood, and that the pregnancy will be over. I can't see that I'll ever relax - I spent my first pregnancy in blissful ignorance of anything going wrong, and wish I could do the same now. With regard to pregnancy books, I don't think enough has changed to warrant buying any more - I'm sure I'll barely look at the ones I have.

bronniemuldoon · 18/08/2004 17:13

Hi guys

Can I join? I'm just over 6 wks pg - my due dates seem to change depending on whether I put in the start date of my LMP or the day of conception (how sad is that? I know the day we conceived - doesn't say much for our sex life!!). Still it's no. 2 so I guess we have some excuse.

The m/s has just started for me, afternoons worse than mornings this time - no idea what that means - and also no sore boobs yet.

Also trying to find healthy food to eat to stave of m/s and the munchies as have just managed to lose a stone and don't want to go crazy like I did last time. I've found the following good so far:

marmite rice cakes (strong flavours seem to work best)
raw carrots
cherry tomatoes
any fruit
water biscuits

any other suggestions gratefully received...

Also saw some people looking for book suggestions. The best investment I made was The Rough Guide to Pregancy and Birth. It's hilarious and really deals with all the things you're actually going through. I found the textbooks all a bit dry although useful to refer to once in a while. The Rough Guide at least has a sense of humour about it all!

Seabird · 18/08/2004 17:22

Hi & congratulations BronnieMuldoon! Sounds like we have similar EDDs and symptoms so far - thanks for your healthy eating tips (except marmite - blurgh!) How old is your firstborn?

Totally agree with your book tip - it was my favourite by miles and I'm a book-buying addict . I notice she's now got a baby book out which looks good too. It's Kaz Cooke isn't it?

Hi bronniemuldoon, welcome! THere are loads of us! It's lovely to have people to talk to as we're trying to keep it to ourselves for a while.

Favourite pregnancy foods last time were ambrosia rice and creme caramel.

Best preg book was Best Friend's Guide to Pregnancy. Did see a new NCT one yesterday that looked good, but think I'd rather save up and buy maternity clothes in a few weeks time!!

Glad you mentioned dodgy tummy DelGirl as I had that yesterday and was getting paranoid. Bad day yesterday as I also convinced myself that ds was coming down with chicken pox. Spots vanished overnight!

DelGirl · 18/08/2004 18:17

Hi and congratulation Bronniemuldoon . That rough guide sounds good. I already have half a dozen or so books plus magazines etc so don't think I shall be investing in anymore.

jumpin · 18/08/2004 21:23

Evening all,
Re upset tum, Delgirl. Mine's a bit funny too: I feel bloated and really windy. Went swimming earlier and practically propelled myself down the pool like a hovercraft! (sorry - I was in there on my own so not too revolting)

DelGirl · 18/08/2004 22:16

LOL

Azure · 19/08/2004 08:37

Hello and welcome Bronniemuldoon. Hmm, after saying I won't get any other books I'm now intrigued by the Rough Guide one - I don't think that was around last time. Oh, and we shouldn't forget the Mumsnet book "Mums on Pregnancy". I enjoyed reading "The Best Friends Guide..." last time, although it is obviously American-focused. I still laugh at the thought of the "best odds diet" (or whatever it is called) in the "What to Expect..." book. Completely over the top - implying you would ruin any chance of a healthy baby if you eat a slice of white bread or chocolate ("empty calories" ). Maybe I'll see what the local library has.

Munchk2n · 19/08/2004 10:20

Morning all, hope everyone's OK - not suffering too much. I felt a bit dodgy yesterday - bit dizzy and my vision was wobbly at the edges, then that got better and I started to feel really sick (wasn't actually sick though). Found it a bit difficult to entertain DD (2yrs 2m) and guiltily plonked her in front of 'Nemo' - she thought it was great!

Went to see gp on monday, to get myself 'in the system', so now waiting to hear from hospital for a scan date at some point - can't wait!!!

miranda2 · 19/08/2004 12:11

HIya!! Just found out I'm pregnant with my second child - did the test this morning not really expecting anything, but there it was! (Then had to re-read the instructions just to check that two lines meant a positive not a negative!). Due april 28th according to Fertility friend. I ovulated late - should i tell the doctor a fake first day of last period to get an accurate due date on my notes?? and should I go to the doctor now or later??

miranda2 · 19/08/2004 12:12

Forgot to say - ds is 3 and 1 month.

nellyk · 19/08/2004 12:12

I'm due around the 11th April, still waiting for my dating scan although not even sure if I will get that as my GP says only get a scan at 18 weeks in my area (which is not true).

Also said I could not have an early scan 'without reason' and one m/c didn't equal a high risk p/g (which is good) so I couldn't have an early scan (not so good).

I know of one colleague who faked bleeding to get scans but I wouldn't feel comfortable at all with that. Might go back and ask another GP if they will refer me. DD1 is going to be 3 by next April. Anyone in paid work told their employers yet? I haven't. I don't feel as if I can get excited about it all until I get my scan. Still haven't told family etc. This time with my dd1 p/g I was reading books and magazines v. avidly.

One book I read after birth was the what to expect when you're expecting. I'm so glad I didn't read it in when p/g as so parania inducing. And what could be more heartbreaking for struggling breastfeeders than the instructions on how to breastfeed with your adopted baby!! Incredible

Azure · 19/08/2004 13:52

Hi Miranda - great that you're here too. My DS is 3 next week, so we're very similar in our families. If you told your doctor that you had been tracking your cycle on FF and are confident when you ovulated, do you think s/he would use your EDD? If not, I would be tempted to give a false date of LMP to fit in with your calculation of EDD, as I would prefer a later due date (if only to delay people asking "have you had your baby yet" ). I have arranged to see my doctor next week to get the ball rolling with midwives etc. I live in a different borough to where I had DS, so am interested to see if there are any differences in the approach.

xoz · 19/08/2004 14:46

Congrats and Welcome bronniemuldoon and miranda2.
Thanks all for the book suggestions.. funnily enough the one you're all recommending is the one I already have The rough Guide to Pregnancy, except I've got the Australian edition which was called "Up the Duff". dd1 was born in Sydney, so a lot of the info would be different to here but it's still hilarious. I've started reading it again for the third time and still laugh at the jokes (maybe I'm just sad)
My m/s seems to be developing nicely. This morning I had to run for the loo after one mouthfull of my weetabix, but it all came to nothing in the end. Oh well there's always tommorrow. Both my previous pg's it started at abotu 7 weeks and stayed until 18 weeks. Best diet I've ever been on!

bronniemuldoon · 19/08/2004 15:25

Aaaaagh, the m/s has really kicked in. Lost my breakfast this morning big style at the same time as trying not to upset my DS (he's nearly 2 by the way Seabird) so I was choking "is there any post? Why don't you bring it to Mummy?" just so I could get on with it without giving him the full performance! Ah, the joys.

Have also just given in BIG TIME, having put down my saintly list of things to eat for m/s yesterday I've just managed to eat 300g of pick'n'mix from our corner shop - that'll teach me! Feeling v. guilty now.

Off to the doctors in a minute to register pg and ask about chickenpox whilst I'm pregnant. A lot of DS's playmates have it and my Mum can't remember whether I've had it or not.

miranda2 · 19/08/2004 15:41

Oh gosh, I hope i don't get m/s this time! I was really lucky and didn't last time - but I've heard that you can often get it differently in different pregnancies, so fingers crossed...
I think I'll go with a fake date of LMP to get the correct (later) due date - I was induced at 14 days over with ds(1!), and if that happened again I certainly would want to let it go the full fortnight over, not be induced a week earlier than I needed to be. It hasn't really all sunk in yet - I've told two friends who happened to ring, both of whom live a long way away and aren;t in contact with my other circles, and that helped! But i don't want to tell people at work yet. Dh is off for 10days on business on Sat, so will probably put off telling family etc until he gets back. Unless of course they read it on here!!

Tallbird · 19/08/2004 16:03

Hi ! Can I join too ?

Due on 25th April, and a bit nervous, as had a m/c in March - so am very reassured that a few others here are in the same boat. Definitely planning on requesting an early scan when I go to see the GP.

Haven't told anyone yet except dp. Have recently got a new kitten, and dd (3 and a half) now keeps asking if we can have a 'baby person' as well ! Think we will leave telling her for a bit though. Certainly not planning on telling anyone at work for a long time yet (think I left it until at least 5 months last time).

Anyway, congratulations to everyone.

xoz · 19/08/2004 17:29

Welcome & Congratulations Tallbird.
You know, I'm nervous about a m/c and I've never even had one! I can't imagine what you guys who have must be going through.
Big hugs to all of you.
