Anyone joining me?

ooh yes I was so carried away with my list I forgot to say congratulations, fisil!

006 does your asthma get much worse with pregnancy then? I only have very mild asthma, which doesn't seem to be affected (touchwood).

006, what kind of cancer does your mum have? My mum has just finished 6 months of chemo for non-hodgkins lymphoma (2nd time she's had it) and so far it's in remission again. I hope you're okay and are handling all the stress. Cancer is an awful thing and combined with all these other things it must be really hard. Big hugs to you.

miranda2 · 23/08/2004 10:58

Update - no more bleeding which has got to be good news, so I'm cautiously optimistic. I've just taken my urine sample to the docs for them to 'confirm the pregnancy' - seems a rather quaint old practice, as my doc last time didn't bother saying a home test was fine, but this time the receptionist just laughed rather pityingly and said 'well, we'll wait til we get our own results shall we?'!!!! Honestly. So when the results come tomorrow or WEd, I get to see a doctor. My temps are stil high, I only thought to check this morning and that was reassuring. I said my LMP date was a few days later than it really was so they'd have the right due date according to my charts of when I ovulated (felt really naughty!). Feels rather bizarre though - I don't feel pregant at all! Not that that is a bad thing - I didn't have any sickness or anything with ds either, but i did tell everyone straight away, whereas this time I'm being a bit cautious cos of work etc.
A friend who had a baby here last year (my last was in a different health authority) said Newcastle don't do 12 week scans to save money, so I'm really hoping they'll do an early one to reassure me - or how early can the midwife hear the heartbeat, I can't remember?

Roobie · 23/08/2004 15:14

Another late April 2005 mum to be here (21st I think). I already have a daughter aged 2yrs 4mths but I am finding that I am not worrying any less the second time around! Since dd was 7 months I have been working 3 days/week so the next major hoohah will be telling work that I am pregnant again - although, pending giving the game away by busting out of my trouser suit before then, I am planning on waiting until the 12 weeks are up at least.
Look forward to chatting with you all.
x

xoz · 23/08/2004 15:35

Welcome and congratulations roobie
That's good to hear miranda2. Here's hoping that there's no further problems. I seem to recall that we heard dd2's heartbeat at 12 weeks. I think it depends on how skillfull a midwife you get.I also recall a midwife saying "let me see if I can find it" and not being able to(!)after that. I think in the first trimester and partway into the second the baby can be hard to find because they are still so small.

bronniemuldoon · 23/08/2004 16:35

Welcome Roobie & Fisil! and thanks for the roll call Seabird.

Know what you mean about bursting out of the clothes too soon Roobie. I've managed to put on 4lbs this week already!!! I feel really sick and can't stop eating and it's only 7 weeks. HELP. I'm going to be an enormous heffalump before I even get to 12 weeks.

We went to friends for dinner this weekend and DH blabbed to a complete stranger (they'd just had their second) so it probably doesn't really count as we'll probably never see them again but I felt really weird. I don't think I want anybody to know yet, I'm still just getting used to the idea myself.

Is anybody else getting headaches? Mine seem to have started in the last few days at about 4pm. Probably not helped by the diet pepsi I'm drinking (I know, I know, really bad for me and the baby but REALLY craved some...)

aprilmeadow · 23/08/2004 16:53

Hello, this is my first attempt at posting a message.

Just found out i am pg for first time. Due 18 April.

M/S started last week - not much fun. really looking forward to actually looking pg!

Roobie · 23/08/2004 17:01

Hi aprilmeadow and thanks for the welcome you others. I had really horrible m/s with dd but it hasn't kicked in yet this time - it's funny how awful memories fade though isn't it? At the moment I am almost wishing it to come on as proof that things are 'taking' and hormones are coursing through my body.
Anyway, back to work tomorrow after a week off on holiday...just hope I can keep the lid on things. The main give away will be not drinking I expect as there are a couple of boozy work socials coming up and I am not exactly known for holding back when there is free booze to be had!

bunny2 · 23/08/2004 19:31

006, good luck a vast majority of nuchal results are good.

Seabird · 23/08/2004 21:14

Hello & Congratulations Roobie & Aprilmeadow!

Miranda2 - glad to hear things have been ok over the weekend. Your GP's receptionist sounds like mine - HOW patronizing??! (and insensitive)

006 - it really does sound like you've had a terrible few years. I so hope things get better for you over forthcoming months, though I know you will still be coming to terms with the shock of losing your father and helping your mum cope with her cancer treatment for some time. xx
bronniemuldoon - my sympathy with the headaches, they are one of the worst things about early pregnancy in my experience. This time mine are under control (so far) with this nasal spray but I remember what it was like last time.

I'm getting very bored of this constant nauseous grazing (bronniemuldoon I dread to get on the scales). I know I am extremely lucky compared with those poor souls who are actually chucking up but it is very dull. The only time I actually fancy anything is when I see an advert on tv for some strange food like bolognaise sauce, which I then crave, only have to make do with another bowl of alpen because that's all I fancied when I was shopping - doh!

Congratulations and welcome Roobie & Aprilmeadow.

Pleased to hear things have settled down for you Miranda2. I'm pleased to here things have settled down for you. It's a nightmare isn't it, I'm permanently nervous of something happening.

  1. So sorry to hear what you are going through, thinking of you.

Well last night I woke up with heartburn, nausea and sore boobs. There I was sat up in bed at goodness knows what time sipping milk and eating biscuits like an old woman . I was quite pleased in a way even if I did feel rough.

Seabird. I've never had a problem with food, hence my weight but I just find now that even though I'm hungry I just don't really fancy anything and really have to think about what on earth I can eat. That's normally not a problem for me and i'm usually planning dinner at breakfast time

DelGirl · 23/08/2004 21:25

pardon me for repeating myself!!

mitzi · 23/08/2004 21:58

Welcome Roobie and Aprilmeadow.

Hi Aprilmeadow, glad you've joined us.

Glad to hear things are going OK Miranda2. Our receptionists are nosy so-and-so's too! I think they practise looking down their noses at the hoi polloi like me...

Seabird, glad to see I'm not the only one suffering with Alpen cravings although have found the only things that don't make me nauseous are toast with proper butter and marmite, any sort of bread, pasta and baked potatoes with beans - hmmm think I'm going to turn into a carb at this rate. Anyway today have invested in some of those travel sickness bands from Boots and put them on about half an hour ago and so far so good. If they work I'll let you know although perversely at least when you have m/s you kind of think that everything's OK. Blimey, there's always something to moan about isn't there?

Delgirl have you tried Gaviscon for the heartburn - you can get it free on prescription now your pg. I had heartburn really badly last time and ate tons of the stuff (the peppermint tablets - couldn't face the liquid). My friend told me a story about her friend who only cried once during her pregnancy - when she'd been all the way to the shops and back to buy 2 bottles of Gaviscon and then dropped them both on her kitchen floor!

Azure · 24/08/2004 14:21

Hi there and congratulations Roobie and Aprilmeadow. Miranda, I'm glad that things sound hopeful. I hope you get to see a doctor soon. My GP visit is tomorrow to get me into the system. No m/s yet, although I did wake up in the night feely queasy for a while. I didn't suffer too badly last time. I certainly don't want to be ill but, as Bronniemuldoon says, it's reassuring to have some symptoms. Probably still early days this time around. By the way, when counting weeks does one week after AF count as week 1? My LMP was July 17th; therefore, am I 5 weeks + 3 days?

DelGirl · 24/08/2004 14:45

I've had m/s all day so far, well it seems to be easing off now and I haven't actually been sick, thankfully. I've tried to be quite careful about my food, making sure I eat all the food groups, especiall lots of fruit but it hasnt worked today. I was eating all morning!! Had a cheese sandwich for breakfast (at work), a packet of hula hoops cos I forgot my crackers for the m/s. A jaffa cake, 2 biscuits, a small portion of fruit salad and then for lunch I had canneloni, peas and chips . This is the 1st day i've eaten so much. I just hope it doesn't carry on as i'll be the size of a bus . Going to shopping now bleurgh and stock up on more fruit and just try to eat that for the rest of the day!

DelGirl · 24/08/2004 15:04

Meant to say Bronniemuldoon, i'm seeing the midwife next Weds and shall ask her for a script then. I hate gaviscon, though i've only ever had the pink one which is like anaseed yuk yuk yuk. Hopefully the mint one wont be so bad. I would have thought that it would be just as cheap over the counter or do they give you a script for several bottle at a time?

xoz · 24/08/2004 15:31

oh dear 006. How awful it must have been for you at the dr's. I understand totally what you mean about feeling mentally fragile. My mum is in Australia and a weekly phone call is not the same as being there!!! Usually the emotions are mixed up enough with the pg hormones, but with so much grief and worry... lots of big hugs to you. Maybe this baby will give everyone in your family something positive to focus on. I'm hoping it will be the case with mine. Even though my mum's in remission, they've all still really shaken up by it and are not back together mentally - it took about 4 years last time!

xoz · 24/08/2004 15:38

On a more positive note...
welcome and congratualtions aprilshowers.
I'm in the "can't-stop-eating-or-I-feel-sick" club too. The worst is if I get hungry and don't eat, then I get cramps and arghhhh... so awful... why am I doing this to myself again!!!!!
You're right roobie. You do forget all of it so quickly, but once it starts again.... I keep thinking how stupid I am to be getting pg for the third time. (but also very pleased at the same time).
Azure, yes, the day AF was due is the day you calculate from. So you actually are 2 weeks pregnant when you ovulate (assuming a 28 day cycle) IYSWIM!!!

bronniemuldoon · 24/08/2004 15:47

Ah Delgirl - you're making me feel much better I've just eaten an ENORMOUS piece of caramel shortbread and now I'm wondering what to have next. Started out in very saintly fashion eating cottage cheese on crackers this morning but it's all going to pot now - sure I can see myself getting visibly bigger by the hour!

With the gaviscon I got a prescription from the doctor for 100 tablets last time (and I ate them all!) which saved me some cash as it was free. Can't remember whether we get free prescriptions straight away once we're pg or we have to wait for a form to be generated. Ask your midwife, she'll know.

xoz · 24/08/2004 15:54

My Burger King/McDonalds craving are returning!!! Had a large whopper meal for lunch today. Last 2 pg's I HAD to have a burger 2-3 times a week... makes it quite expensive now with 2 kids meals as well Am going to have to try find a substitue or dh will go bananas.
Apart from that I have eaten 6-7 cream crackers, 3 french fancies, 2 wwetabix and a glass of skim milk, but I'm getting hungry now so by bedtime I'll have about doubled that I reckon.
I'm already walking around the house all day with my jeans unbuttoned which dd1 (3.5) finds quite upsetting.

Seabird · 24/08/2004 16:28

So glad I'm not alone with the constant munching! Am not usually particularly into chocolate but dh had a bar of M&S dark chocolate the other day which went down great, piece by piece over an hour. Today I am making my way through a large bar of green & blacks orange dark chocolate (in between the Tootsies chicken burger & chips for lunch, weetabix, poached egg on muffin for breakfast etc etc ) BronnieM know what you mean about the carbs - I hadn't had a baked potato since I was pg with dd and I've had 3 already this week! Last week it was pasta but I can't stand the sight of that now. Toast with real butter always seems to work too, though I never actually fancy it.

Got my scan date - 21 Sept

OP posts:
bronniemuldoon · 24/08/2004 16:46

Hee hee xoz, I'm also unbuttoning my trousers by the end of the night - what an alluring sight I am sprawled across the sofa hoovering up pasta and glued to the TV. Funnily enough can't seem to get excited about getting round to doing the ironing....

Hey Seabird, good news for your scan date. Is it a nuchal one? In Bristol we only get a standard 20 wk scan on the NHS but you can have a nuchal scan around 12 weeks privately. We did this last time - more to see the baby than anything else but it's got a lot more expensive since then so in two minds about going for it this time.
