Morning,

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mrsjaffabiffa · 03/05/2007 21:14

MKG

Scoot, you could be right about Maddie. She is very jealous at the moment anyway. Has to nuzzle in if Harrison want a cuddle. She is also not so happy about my bump! Covers it up with my t-shirt if it's showing saying "away baby" and if I yelp with a crotch zinger she says "stop it baby". I try my hardest to to show her any emotion if I'm in pain but sometimes they just catch you anaware. Ouchhhh. Ho hum, i'm sure we'll find away of dealing with it, if not we'll carry on until the Phase passes. Well done on getting your NVQ in, just sit back and enjoy now and glad Lily's home.

So.............. who dared watch Panorama??

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 03/05/2007 21:19

I watched it. Don't know what to say really. Hardly unsurprising, not incredibly balanced and extremely sad.

Glad I'm having a homebirth. Only danger (apart from unforseen occurences) is that all of the community midwives are attending other homebirths and I have to go into hospital. It would break my heart.

juliewoolie · 03/05/2007 21:22

yeap absoloutely shocking.

My sister is a midwife and she is always saying there is never enough midwifes.

I just hope that this documentery makes someone in government sit up and take notice.

MKG · 03/05/2007 21:26

I don't know what everyone is watching, but if I were in the UK I probably would, because I love shows about medical stuff (should have been a doctor in retrospect).

Any minute now . .. .

Or any day now . . .

Or any week . . . .

In reality any month now . . .

Gingerbear · 03/05/2007 21:35

Oh dejags, many congratulations - all that worry about Carys being breech, you must be thanking the stars that she was born normally (if painfully)!
Beautiful name! pictures asap please!

Gingerbear · 03/05/2007 21:39

I watched the Panorama programme tonight - Jeremy Vine is like reading the Daily Mail though -
'Having a baby is the most dangerous time in a woman's and her baby's life'

Oh purleeese!! I know the things the undercover reporter filmed were shocking, but FGS.

scootermum · 03/05/2007 21:58

I was banned from watching it by DH -probably for the best as I would only have got myself in a blind panic in a totally over reactionary way..

My Mother, still here as they are going to a wedding in Bedford on Saturday) has been huffy with me all night as I wouldnt give Lily Medised before bed..(Mum reckons she has a cough but she hasnt coughed once since she got back 7 hours ago..now Ive nothing against Medised-in fact I consider it to be a magical elixir, but I cant justify it when the child isnt even ill..that would just be drugging her)Will go to bed before there is a row..sheesh..

(Lily will probably be drip fed Medised when the new baby arrives to stop her attempting to force feed it and/or slap it as she was the doll tonight..worrying..)

scootermum · 03/05/2007 22:04

My Dad has just asked me to buy the Daily Mail for him Gingerbear...I lied and said they had sold out at the Garage...DH wont have it in the house-its his one socio-political stand...

Have been to vote at the village hall-was glad I went only because the poor woman manning the polling station got so excited to actually have a 'customer'...poor dear had been sitting there since 7 am and only had about 6 voters-take up has clearly not been high in Wareside..Felt quite bad about leaving in the end as she was clearly desperate for anyone to speak to to break the tedium..

ShowOfHands · 03/05/2007 22:15

You're right Gingerbear, very Daily Mail-esque reporting as you would expect from JV. Unbalanced and a missed opportunity in many ways.

Did you know that 8yrs ago today I voted for the first time, aged 18 and more importantly, DH kissed me for the first time.

ShowOfHands · 03/05/2007 22:17

PS Glad the lovely little Lily is home.

That post was brought to you by the National Alliterative Society.

anneme · 04/05/2007 01:01

What a busy day. Congrats dejags and lovely name. Also Drpink - I do like Joshua as a name (but am banned from having it because DS1 is Joseph and it would be confusing). Hope bf has improved - it does get easier. I remember waking in the night after joseph was born with boobs like bullets and no nipple sticking out. Would back up all advice and say hang on in there.

DH and I went for our last meal out pre baby tonight which was lovely. Have been feeling quite crap today (slept v badly last night) so almost cancelled but then compromised and went to a pub nearer us than we were originally planning. Glad we did because it was really nice.

Having hair and ladygarden done tomorrow and then will be ready. Bit paranoid LO will make an appearance before then (story of my life!)

Feeling v itchy - even more so than usual. Am a bit worried that it is something bad (have read about itchy palms of hands/soles of feet being bad)Not sure if the itchiness I have counts as "unbearable" which was what my book said was an indication of obstetric cho....something. Might go and look stuff up - back later

Lwatkins · 04/05/2007 01:05

What was this programme about, I don't have a TV here so am rather cut of unless I'm at home lol. Take it it was some nasty programme about how disgusting the care is in the UK for pregnant woman, lack of midwifes, shcoking 'secret' footage, that sort of thing? If so glad I didn't watch it, no need to. My care hasn't always been perfect but my m/w's have always been pleasant if a little 'lost' for a few weeks!', babies always been checked, bloods taken etc so I have no complaints so far.

SOH that is so sweet. Everything about you and your dh makes me smile, you seem to have such a lovely relationship. I'll have one like yours anyday please Oh and it was 2 years ago today that I voted for the first time, God feels like just yesterday! I remember my dad voting for the cannabis party, was so funny. My dad is the most anti-drugs person in the world but refused to vote for any of the other 'tossers!'. Love that man!

Scoot glad little Lily's back home with you. Lol at her learning to 'jump', and I knew your NVQ work would be ok. Well done and a big pat on the back. Now to finish my work........

Mrsjb Maddie really does make me smile, just like G&T's Hugs! Def sounds like there may be a wee bit of a jealousy issue going on. Could you buy her a present from the 'baby' when it's born because she's a great sister or something? Might make her feel less like the baby is taking you away from her and let her bond more easy with it, does that make any sense lol?

Must do some work, if I can ghet it done it's another module done and out the way!

anneme · 04/05/2007 01:22

I knew it was a bad idea to go surfing to find out about itchiness. Am now convinced that I have obstetric chol..something which is apparently particularly dangerous to the baby after 38 wks. I am 38 wks today. Yet another thing to be paranoid about.,

LW I thought you might be around at this time - hope work is going well.

Lwatkins · 04/05/2007 01:36

anname hun if you are really concerned about the itching I'd give your m/w a ring in the morning just to check it over with her. Better to be safe and all that jazz. I can sympathise, my poor legs look awful from where I've scratched so much I've made them bleed. Wont wear a skirt anymore because of it, and my legs are my best asset lol. Mind, they're still there somewhere. Beneath the dried blood and swelling!

I think a lot of the time I worry the itching is worse than it is cause once I sart feeling itchy and thinking about it it seems to get worse and everywhere starts to itch! Don't forget you have twice as much blood circulating your body atm so that can make your skin feel irritable. Slap on lots of lovely soothing cream whenever you feel the urge to itch.

Lwatkins · 04/05/2007 01:38

Especially if it's itchness of your palms and soles of your feet, they're like hotspots of your body so when too warm can irritate the itchy feeling even more. Lots of cream lady, Dr LW's orders

anneme · 04/05/2007 01:46

Thanks LW - you are right that once you start thinking about it it gets worse. Am off to slather myself in cream and then slither back into bed!!! Think I will call the mw in the morning as well.

Don't stay up too late working

Lwatkins · 04/05/2007 02:31

Yes Ma'am

Only have 500 more words to write, check over the bibliography and referencing and write up some notes for presentation. Makes my head spin just thinking abut it.

Lwatkins · 04/05/2007 05:08

Just watched the panorama thing online -

That poor woman left in the corridor whilst in feckin labour! I'm quite speechless!

cameroonmama · 04/05/2007 07:46

LW - do you ever sleep? I hope you are getting some rest, tsk tsk.

Anneme are you feeling less itchy this morning?

Dejags - brilliant news about baby Carys, many congratulations, looking forward to seeing some photos and so glad she turned at the last minute! Lovely name by the way.

And congrats to you too Scoot on your NVQ and on having Lily back, now your baby can come.

SOH it is so lovely to hear the way you talk about dh..LW I'm sure your turn will come

I voted yesterday for the first time in my whole life, how dreadful is that! Living overseas made it all quite difficult before. I had to ask the lady at the polling station how to do it . The estate agents also called and said there was a viewing for today, then called back and said could the man come in half and hour, after a frantic tidy-up he came and it turns out he used to live here in the 1950s and his family owned the house until 1996! He obviously had fond memories and told me where there used to be a rayburn stove and a fireplace and things, it was very interesting but I'm not sure if it was just a nostalgic visit or a potential buy!

Last night I entertained 10 ladies for a cooking-esqe type of tupperware party, great fun, but a get a group of women together and god do they talk alot. Bit like us really

The good news is dh comes home today, yippee, we are very excited. Also the kids are off school as it is an inset day so we should have fun today.

Anymore full moon babies overnight?

twelveyeargap · 04/05/2007 09:20

I think I'll start getting up in the night to join you other insomniacs. Second night wihtout sleep last night. Boo.

Befnal and Juicy - please email me twelveyeargap at googlemail dot com. DH told me about a free service I can use; I upload files, they email you a link and you download the files. Hope it works. Have ripped the tracks of the Hippobirthing CD and will now attempt to scan the scripts. I need to work out how to get a load of scanned pages into one file instead of having to send each one separately. All else fails I'll email the mp3 files and post you some photocopies, so p'raps give me your home address too, just in case. Likewise, if anyone else wants them, email me please.

Gutted for you about the house Scoot. Can you get the agents to contact your other interested party and see if they still want it? We got a call like that on the first house we had interest in all those months ago.

Congratulations to DrKGPink and to Dejags. It's all very exciting.

juliewoolie · 04/05/2007 09:40

Morning all, this sleepless nights thing is getting a bit much. I just hope those that can are napping during the day to try catch up.

AbbyLou · 04/05/2007 09:47

Good morning everyone, any new babies during the night? I actually had a reasonable night's sleep last night and don't feel too bad tonight. Ds is being a little demon I don't think I can compete with the cm in terms of keeping him entertained all day. It's just such hard work.
My dh wouldn't let me watch that midwives programme either. Part of me wanted to but I'm glad I didn't really. I scared enough as it is, I don't need to see how many horrible things can happen!
LWatkins, happy birthday!

Bensonbluebird · 04/05/2007 09:53

Had a sleepless night too, though due to noisy neighbours rather than pregnancy. Will be able to get them back with a crying baby soon!

Going to be nervously keeping an eye on the election results today. I have a friend who is waiting to see if he has been re-elected. What a shambles! the new system is confusing, I'm not surprised there were so many spoiled ballot papers.
