Thought I'd start up a new thread as the old one has run out of space.

Yeah I just try not to think too much about crowning if I'm honest Shock TBH you can't do much about that anyway, the only way out is through!

I don't know what to do with myself tonight Grin I'm bored of watching birth programmes, I've got no more research to do and DH won't let me compile wishlists of clothes... meanie. Maybe I'll go and organise the bedroom like he suggested...

Gizzymum · 04/03/2018 20:31

@milney25 The Oyster2 looks similar to the icandy and I think it's usually cheaper too. Folds up quite small as well. It's what we had with DS1. But if you're planning on having 2 and at some point needing a double pram, i recommend investing in something which will convert to a double at a later date (this is a mistake we have made).

Beanmama18 · 04/03/2018 21:50

We ordered our pioneer today! £49 off the car seat base and 10% of every thing due to an event at mothercare so saved quite a bit. Getting it in the boot will be a squeeze but it does fit thankfully.

BertieBotts · 04/03/2018 22:13

The idea of something which can convert later is like science fiction to me Grin No such thing when I had DS, IIRC. No idea what our gap will be because we have such uncertainty in conceiving, so if we end up needing a double I'll just have to sell it and buy something else, or see if we can make it work with a buggy board/sling etc.

StrawberryLemonade · 05/03/2018 06:16

I’m quite glad not to be stressing about buying prams etc this time round! Literally reusing everything from last time just need to make sure it’s all ok but no reason it shouldn’t be.
I still have anxiety about baby and can’t wait for 20w scan...

Gem173 · 05/03/2018 06:30

@strawberrylemonade
Me too :( baby still hasn’t gave me anything but gas and a sore back ! Couldn’t sleep a wink last night but hoping the baby’s okay. 12 days till I find out if he/she is a boy or girl and if they are okay. Just trying to stay positive xx

dancingunicorns123 · 05/03/2018 08:44

@BlueMooMoo the changing bag seems really small as well!

Emmasmum2013 · 05/03/2018 08:55

Oooh @Gem173, we're getting the Journey too! It looks really good and has everything we need. What colour did you go for? We're going to go for the blush pink if its a girl or the teal if its a boy. Our last pram got wrecked as it was used so much so that's well gone now, and I think this will be our last baby so don't need to worry about getting a colour that will suit either gender!

I'm not getting a gender scan. Its a lot of money for something that we'll get in a few weeks on the NHS anyway.. I've got my 16 week appointment on Friday and then the 20 week appointment is booked for the 5th April.

Do you get to hear the heartbeat at the 16 week appointment? Its amazing how much I've forgotten since my last one!

Whichoneisit · 05/03/2018 09:05

Hi all,

Sorry I’ve only been lurking. We’ve been on holiday and then snowed in so no excuses. The weeks seem to be flying by! 17 weeks tomorrow!

My 16 week app was cancelled on Friday due to the weather. Managed to get an appointment for this Friday. Hoping to hear the heartbeat. Have been feeling a bit anxious since slipping when we were away skiing (I didn’t ski, just slipped onto my bum) so will be relieved to get checked. Still 3 weeks until my 20 week.

Haven’t looked at pushchairs yet - they’ve released a new bugaboo called the fox that I’m hoping to have a look at. Other than that, I haven’t really thought about baby stuff other than a sleepyhead. Is anyone planning to get one? Apparently they fit into the Chico next to me crib.

I also need to be conscious of the sizes of the things we buy- we’ll be travelling long haul when she’s a few weeks old and we’ll near gear we can transport!

Beanmama18 · 05/03/2018 09:13

I've got my 16 week midwife appointment in a couple of hours. Not quite sure why but I'm soo nervous.

YouCantBeSirius · 05/03/2018 09:41

I'm 18+5 now and it seems to be going by so much quicker now. I've picked my pram and my parents have paid the deposit on it, I think they are going to pay the rest of the balance after my 20 week scan.

Got my 20 week scan on the 16th then I don't see anyone else until I have a midwife appointment when I'm 24 weeks.

Pereie · 05/03/2018 11:17

We have spent the weekend researching pushchairs and my head is bursting with it.

I think we have decided on either the mamas & papas ocarro or icandy peach. DH hates the branding on the icandy which is annoying because it's easier if the two to fold down.

It's starting to feel a little daunting adding up ALL the bits you need. And they say newborns are cheaper than kids Confused

BertieBotts · 05/03/2018 11:22

Yep, I made the mistake of adding up, lol!

I'm not keen on the things like the sleepy head personally, they just don't look safe to me and it would make m anxious.

Sugarskulllover · 05/03/2018 11:52

I've been so behind on this thread!

Looks like everyone's deciding on prams!
We've gone for the Cosatto giggle 2 in Pom Pom tree. We picked it before we found out we were having a boy, but as it's grey it would suit either way. It was too good a deal to pass on at the time! I loved it as it was the most lightweight, easily folded and I love that it's 3 wheels it's so easy to manoeuvre. 2 weeks on Friday for our 20 week scan. Hoping to find out if the midwife I saw at 16 weeks who said she thinks I have an anterior placenta was right or not. Hoping not, I've been feeling some movement I think. I don't think it's been wind or anything to constant for that.
How's everyone doing? Tiredness has been my biggest symptom tbh and i think it's getting my DH down as I'm falling asleep way before 10pm so not much good company atm!

Emmasmum2013 · 05/03/2018 11:57

Is this the sleepyhead thing?

www.mothercare.com/accessories/sleepyhead%C2%AE-deluxe-pod-0-8-months/LKD232.html

That seems like an awful lot of money for something that they're going to grow out of so quickly. But I might just be being overly frugal haha. I'm a nightmare for not spending money.

I think we'll just stick to the moses basket and then the cot. I think the best thing you can do for them when they are little is keep them a bit propped up at the head end and get the bed/basket warmed up before you put them it in. But it really does depend on the baby.. I remember we had a swinging crib for by the side of the bed when my last was a newborn, and she absolutely hated it. I could not get her to sleep in it for more than 20 minutes. But she loved the moses basket.

BertieBotts · 05/03/2018 12:10

I think when we roughly added everything up before we came up with a figure of about €2000 but it should be possible to bring it closer to €1000 by getting things second hand and skipping a lot of the unnecessary stuff. I do think it's important to decide what you personally will use rather than just getting everything the shops tell you you need.

Whichoneisit · 05/03/2018 13:02

That’s the one. It has fantastic reviews on John Lewis but I want a closer look at the safety stuff. The manufacturers say they’re safe to use in cribs and cots but I need to do more research.
I know it seems expensive but after having a DC2 that didn’t sleep until he went to school, I’ll buy anything!!

Gem173 · 05/03/2018 16:51

@Emmasmum2013

Yeah I got it in black as I don’t know what I’m having yet till the 17th! And I wanted to get it before 14th as they have a deal where you pay £300 get the pram, car seat, pram liner and changing bag in one. Whereas after 14th you got to pay for changing bag and pram liner separate which is £40+ alone!
All in all I spent £850
On bouncer, crib, wardrobe and pram on the weekend :) so not too bad.

And I understand about the Moses basket. We will be using a Moses basket for first 6 months as we have absolutely no room in our bedroom for a side cot of any kind. Wish I didn’t buy such a big bed now!

Gem173 · 05/03/2018 16:54

14+5 today and absolutely shattered :( felt lightheaded and dizzy up on the wards this morning and ended up running into a patient toilet to throw up. Second time I’ve thrown up this pregnancy. Hope it’s not the beginning of morning sickness.

BertieBotts · 05/03/2018 16:55

I do love the teal colour of that. Its my one gripe with my choices that the colours are boring! I suppose you can always get a nicer seat liner or cosy toes though. That's all on my pinter estate board for now :)

YouCantBeSirius · 05/03/2018 18:01

My friend is giving me her bedside crib so I'll just need to get a new mattress for it. I think I'll probably use the baby box for the first few months for day time naps in the living room.

SpriteGirl · 05/03/2018 19:02

My best friend is giving me her travel system, her baby is one this month so by the time my baby comes will have moved on to bigger things. She has told me the brand I can’t remember! Normally I’d be all over this stuff researching but as I am having it gifted I’m happy to take what’s given, so all this sounds double Dutch to me!

BlueMooMoo · 05/03/2018 19:24

@dancingunicorns123 yes it definitely seemed only the size of a normal handbag rather than something that might potentially fit nappies, bottles, clothes, wipes, etc. I suspect a carthorse and carriage probably wouldn't be amiss with all the kit required!
@Beanmama18 Good luck. How did it go? I didn't get to hear the heartbeat at mine. Not sure when my next opportunity will be. Maybe the 20 week scan? Or perhaps the midwife appointment at 24 weeks?

Exciting to hear everyone getting lots of kit now. I'm sure we won't need all of it, but I'd rather get it and not use it than have to sort all of this stuff out with a newborn. Think we're going with tutti bambini or the chico next to me for our bedroom and a cot for the nursery.

Beanmama18 · 05/03/2018 19:54

@BlueMooMoo it went great thank you for asking. I've gone from consultant led due to high bmi back to midwife so I'm very happy!! My midwife said they don't listen for the heart beat at 16 weeks anymore. Bit disappointing but we've a private scan booked for Monday so that's keeping me going.

I've looked at a snuzpod as a bedside crib but it's quite pricey, I'm sure it would come in for potentially more babies down the line but it's quite bulky to store. I've since seen the company that do the bednest which seems like a really good idea. Has anyone heard anything about them?

BertieBotts · 05/03/2018 20:20

I'm planning to get an ikea cot or cotbed and convert it to a bedside one. Anything which will stand up with three sides works and then you can just make it into a normal cot later. Did that last time when bedside cots were hugely rare and stupidly expensive and it worked well. All the specially sold bedside ones look very small to me.

Unfortunately there was a death associated with the bednest a couple of years ago. I think it turned out that the parents had got it second hand and hadn't had any instructions with it and they might have changed the design since then, I vaguely remember a long MN thread about it, but you might want to research that if you're considering it.
