Hi All,
Sorry, I've not logged in for a while. Great to see all the lovely scan photos and i hope you are all well.
I've a niggling question for you all and hope you might be able to help. I've now informed work/ family/ friends as im now 13weeks. YAY!
Work knew a few weeks ago, but as I've formally announced (mainly because i can't fit in to anything) it they now are asking me when i wish to start maternity leave and are asking me to start writing up handover notes, etc. I've very unsupportive manager who generally makes you feel pretty crap about life. I have 7 weeks holiday i would like to use up before i go on Maternity, so i know exactly when i want to go on leave from (as i've a cheeky holiday booked) - HOWEVER there is a part of me that doesn't want to tell them just yet, as i don't have to legally.
I don't mind giving them a rough idea, but i don't want to confirm anything just yet. Am i wrong to do this? I wouldn't want to confirm anything until 15 weeks before due date as per government guidelines.
I work in HE and am yet to discuss with HR, but I have my usual catch-up with said manager tomorrow and i know what is coming. I might be able to get away with 'i'm talking to HR next week to get an understanding' for another week, but where do i stand? Do i have to tell them now if I've announced?
I don't want to tell them as she was so unsupportive and has been terribly rude over the last few months about my diagnosis with M.E., my need to change work hours in line with university policy to do with M.E. and various other things including not being married!
I should add, i am a manger myself and i would hope i have never made a since team member or member of staff feel the way she has made me feel. My team want nothing to do with her and i try to protect them as much as possible as she's an old fashioned twonk. I wouldn't normally feel the need to be so awkward, but to be honest i really want to be now i can get away with it a little. I'm not expecting her to be here on my return as she is due to retire.
WWYD? Let them know now or not confirm actual dates at all until 15 wks prior?
I should also add, I've already started handover notes and made sure my team are copied into relevant and appropriate emails. I've been doing that for months already as in prep.
