Thought I'd start up a new thread as the old one has run out of space.

@Gem173 I had no symptoms with my first after about 8 weeks and everything was perfectly normal and had a perfect, problem free pregnancy. Try not to worry xx

milney25 · 09/02/2018 11:41

@Gem173 I just had very slight nausea, actually if anything it's got worse after my 12 week scan! When is your scan. I know it's hard, but it won't be long and then you'll be able to start relaxing and enjoying your pregnancy!

Mamfa18 · 09/02/2018 11:49

@Gem173

I went to EPU and they gave me early scans as I was sure there was something wrong! And I had little pains etc but everything was fine!!!

I think sometimes seeing is believing? When’s your scan xx

Gem173 · 09/02/2018 12:21

My scan is on Tuesday it’s probably why I’m more nervous! Like you all said it is hard to believe until I see my little bean on the screen. I will try enjoy it abit more. But this baby has given me acne on another level. My face is like a giant pepperoni and I have rashes down my legs and on my stomach from when I itch. I can almost compare it to getting prickly heat. Only happens nearer to night time. But that’s the only symptoms I have. With all these spots I’m trying to avoid going out! Will have to mention it at my next midwife appointment. Thankyou all for being here and goodluck to those with scans!

@Cumbrian Troll looks perfect 💕

Emmasmum2013 · 09/02/2018 12:28

Hi ladies! Congrats to all of you who’ve had scans and test results. So glad everything is going well for you all.
I’m still off work. Really hoping the sickness ends soon as I am bored out of my mind!!!

Scan on Tuesday, I can’t wait to see it and make sure everything is ok.

And off to Disney land Paris in 6 weeks or so! Me and DD are so excited hahaha.

Gem, I’m with you on the acne. My skin is appalling, and I’m breaking out on my neck and chest too! This never happened with the first. I remember not having one spot at all. Hopefully it will pass. My hair is getting thicker though which is awesome!!

StrawberryLemonade · 09/02/2018 12:47

Congratulations to everyone who has had scans and reassuring screening results!
Re: babymoon - I kinda wish we’d done this first time round, but definitely no chance this time as we’re a bit skint and have a toddler - let’s just say holidays are no longer relaxing!

My symptoms are definitely slowly improving now (14+3) still a bit nauseous and more tired than usual but not as bad as it was.

butterfly86 · 09/02/2018 13:56

Hi ladies trying to catch up but just skimmed through, sorry some of you are having a worryang time waiting for results I hope things are clearer for you all soon.

I had my dating scan today I was so worried but everything was fine and baby was flipping and rolling all over the place it wouldn't stay still! Just waiting on results now, nt was 1.4mm so hope that's a good sign.

Awww yeah I just whipped it out of my savings even though I have mega anxieties over maternity pay!! But it’s fine I have time I won’t go on to stat mat pay until January so have plenty of time to replenish my savings!!! I just had this sudden ‘it will never just be us again!’ Moment!!

Even though technically baby is coming! I have an private scan the week before just to make sure everything is ok before we go although I’m praying we don’t find out the gender by accident we really don’t want to know!!!! - I’ve checked up everythinggg you need to know - no ice, no deet mozzie spray, stay out of the sun when I can, no booze obviously, and I’ll probably end up living on chips to eat as everyone gets a dodgy belly in Egypt!

It is like a 5* resort with amazing reviews and no mention of dodgy bellies so I’m hoping it will be ok. Just managed to buy a job lot of maternity summer clothes off eBay for £23!!! 14 items! Maternity clothes are soooo expensive and I just can’t justify paying for a whole holiday wardrobe so I’m being a Scrooge!

My skins so bad too! And dry!!!! I get spots that aren’t even spots they’re just lumps on my face, also sorry I have no filter but omg I’ve been SO constipated! DR gave me a detergent sized bottle of some laxative stuff that’s safe when pregnant!

I used to think people over exaggerated during pregnancy but yeah - they weren’t Blush

peterpanwendy · 09/02/2018 17:51

@Sparklesdontshine how much is the nipt? My mum didn't have one with my sister (big age gap so somewhat more relevant as it wasn't even offered when I was born!)
I don't think it's going to make a difference to me either way so I'm thinking to just not do it. Do they take bloods for anything else at the 12 weeks?

@SpriteGirl don't they test for it in other less invasive ways (just by a scan) later on in the pregnancy anyway? I completely agree

@Gizzymum I won't be paying for the harmony but other than the obvious knowing your risk of baby having downs etc is there any other reasons for having the test?

Is anyone opting out of the NHS downs screening?

@Gem173 my scan is Wednesday so I'm still waiting! I completely understand your anxiety I have had it awful so far but the scan will put your mind at rest! I also agree with the spots i have a new one crop up every day.

We are having 2 weekend breaks before baby arrives but only in England, one to centre parcs! I will not be having a bike as I am very clumsy and I won't be able to do many of the swimming activities just literally swim but it will be fun anyway to get some nice walks in! It's at the end of May so hopefully the weather will be nice!

Gizzymum · 09/02/2018 18:01

@peterpanwendy you can find out the gender earlier but that's it in terms of benefits other than those you mentioned.

SpriteGirl · 09/02/2018 18:04

@peterpanwendy the harmony test is a brand name for NIPT. There are other brand names such as panorama, serena etc. We paid £550 for the harmony.

I’ve just had my 20 week scan appointment in the post. It comes with leaflet explaining what they look at but I’ve not read it. I’m just too traumatised by this whole event at the moment I feel like I don’t ever want another scan.

NIPT (stands for non invasive pregnancy testing) is the least invasive and most accurate screening.

But I wouldn’t worry until you’re told there’s something to worry about. I know a couple of people who didn’t have the NHS screening. Their babies are fine.

TinoTheArtisticMouse · 09/02/2018 18:16

We didn't consent to downs screening peter. It's a very personal decision; no right answer.

Almostthere15 · 09/02/2018 18:28

@peterpanwendy we didn't have the bus screening for downs, pateau and Edwards. It's a really personal decision. I just know for me I wouldn't want the next stage of testing if I came back high risk so it wouldn't be helpful to us. There's no right or wrong way, it's what feels right for you.

Midwives are happy to discuss the decision further if you want to, and the nhs screening booklet is pretty good.

We didn't have it in our first pregnancy either, though that seemed more unusual then (or maybe I just had a different midwife who was surprised?)

peterpanwendy · 09/02/2018 20:08

It's such a tricky decision. I too would never have any of the further testing if I came back high risk so now I'm thinking that perhaps I don't want it.

RainbowsAndUnicorns23 · 09/02/2018 21:19

I haven't had NHS screening, and didn't have it with my DS either. Because as you say i wouldn't of had the next tests anyway so didn't see much point.

Gizzymum · 09/02/2018 22:17

I think the NHS screening can be useful if you want to have time to get used to the idea (if it was to come back high risk). You wouldn't have to have the more invasive tests but at least you'd be more prepared?

We had it this time because, unbeknownst to each other, after DS was born we both kept wondering if he looked like a Downs baby (he isn't), but this time we wanted to remove that uncertainty (plus I'm impatient and wanted to know the gender 😳).

StrawberryLemonade · 10/02/2018 07:08

Tbh we had the screening without having made a plan for what we would do if the risk was raised! Which probably wasn’t sensible. When I had DD the downs risk was 1/50000 but this time it’s 1/1350 which to me seems much higher! Although obviously still very low. I guess I am 3 years older though so that probably accounts for some of it.

I’m feeling so bloated still. I think I need to look at my diet and reduce bread and sugar, now I’m feeling slightly less sick, and eat a little more healthily! Maybe that’ll help.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Whichoneisit · 10/02/2018 09:09

We hadn’t made decisions on the ‘what ifs’ of screening either and declined the nhs screening because of its over estimation of trisomys... our trust only check for Down’s and whilst I believe I would continue the pregnancy (providing there were no other serious conditions as there often are with DS), I was worried about Edward syndrome and Pateu where the baby would be incompatible with life. My DC are 12 and 8 and I’d wanted the nifty test to ensure we had as accurate information as possible to prepare them (and us) for the next steps if something was wrong. I will also be having the 20 week nhs scan for the same reasons but it’s all personal choice.

Back for a scan at 1130 to check on baby after being so poorly for ten days. Taking DD(12).

Emmasmum2013 · 10/02/2018 18:47

Has anyone felt any little baby movement flutters yet?
I’m sure I have been getting them. Just like little bubbles, but not wind if that makes sense.

Pereie · 10/02/2018 19:34

@Emmasmum2013 I am sure I've felt it moving, at night when I lie in bed very still, it feels like tiny bubbles popping

milney25 · 10/02/2018 19:48

I thought I felt some bubble popping like sensations too, it was after I'd been sat still for quite a while!

butterfly86 · 10/02/2018 19:53

I've thought I've felt movements too but thought I was imagining it I'm only 12+3 but when I saw how much baby was moving it is possible! I was about 16 weeks when I felt dd but I suppose I know what it feels like this time.

Stephiewoo · 10/02/2018 20:26

I've had a few weird twinges I must say over the last few days, I'm 12+3.

CumbrianExile · 10/02/2018 20:31

Yeah, I have also felt bubble type movements. Its comforting to feel it I think Smile

BertieBotts · 10/02/2018 20:32

Yes me too. But only occasionally - it's too light and easy to miss. I thought I started feeling movement around now with DS as well. However I'm also getting movement type feelings higher up which must be wind so it's difficult to differentiate - but I think there are some which are definitely distinct from the windy feelings too.
