hiya!! I am due in oct and thought i'd poke my head... and growing tummy in here

honeyapple · 25/04/2007 16:31

Ooohh they look quite good J20. I will have to quickly read some reviews.... there are SO many different types of reusable ones out there- all rather overwhelming. I am attracted by the price of those ones though.

Maureen was LOVELY! Not at all matronly- infact quite young and glam. Discussed home birth- all very positive- getting quite excited now (and nervous that I will give in and go to hospital). Really pleased that I liked her. I think it makes a huge difference. She listened in to LO's HB which was great to hear, very reassuring- still can't believe there is a person in there.

Hope everyone finds this new thread...

honeyapple · 25/04/2007 16:32

hiyah, jsut thought id post so that its in my threads im on bit!

honeyapple · 25/04/2007 19:47

Thanks for the link J20- I'm really confused now! I have had a look at the nappylady website- think I will get one of their advisors to come over... In Kent you get a small grant towards reusable nappies- you should investigate if your council offers similar.

DP and DS watching the footie- dunno what to do with myself...

think I will go paint the bathroom...

WinnieThePooh · 25/04/2007 19:51

Welcome to or growing group Champs.

I am seeing my midwife tomorrow and am going to ask about a water birth as the info I got from the other midwife on my booking appointment says that my local hospital has a birthing pool.

I am now going to add this thread to my watches.

asur · 25/04/2007 20:16

Hi all,

I bought a new ergonomic pillow last week (cheap in Ikea!) and since I started using it, haven't had a headache!

I told my boss today that I was pregnant - wasn't going to do it this early but I was nearly sleeping at my desk so figured I should let her know I had an excuse (other than being bored!)

As for those looking at getting reusable nappies - go for it! I've been using terries on DS since he was 2 weeks old (long story but wasn't able to do washing for first 2 weeks!) They are great and there is nothing better than seeing a line full of nappies! DH wasn't sure how he'd cope with them but he likes them too - we both hate the thought of disposables and this LO won't be wearing any! Nappylady has lots of good info and it's worth trying ebay to get some cheap stuff to find out what you like.

Right, i'm off to search the house for food!

ejt1764 · 25/04/2007 20:18

Evening all - just dropping in too so that this'll be on 'my threads'!

Welcome Champs!

Acupuncturist was impressed - apparently going back to work has energised me! I had a feeling I would be better off - it's just nice to have somebody else confirm it!

Have had a lovely long bath - will be off to bed in a minute!

maisym · 25/04/2007 22:45

ahhh!!! - anyone else have awful headaches and stressful dreams. LAst night I couldn't remeber where I lived!!

Apricott · 26/04/2007 09:03

Just getting on board thread too.

Really relieved (had been worrying self unnecessarily, as you do) and excited about baby today having been to MW yesterday and listened to wonderful, racing, insistent little heartbeat in there. Ahh, I'm all loved up!

Really busy day ahead - stream of students coming in for feedback on their last exams, then revision sessions to help them get ready for their upcoming exams. Looking forward to nausea/vomiting later - with me it seems to be tiredness-related at the moment (as opposed to constant at the beginning).

I've been looking into the nappy issue and am still undecided. I can't remember where I read it, but I have seen references to research that shows the environmental impact of disposables v reusabes is virtually indistinguishable. It then comes down to expense v convenience I suppose. Last time I bought a heap of terry towelling nappies and ended up not using even one once (at least not as a nappy, they were great for general other uses). I suspect nappy technology may have moved on since then - my problem was that I couldn't get the pin through 6/8 layers of towelling without exerting so much force would also have punctured baby's abdomen! Velcro seems altogether less terrifying... Be followig the nappy thread with interest.

Sorry to go on. I'll shut up and do some work now. Have good days all xx

MrsFish · 26/04/2007 09:25

Maisym - I had several really stressful dreams last night too. One being that I couldn't remember where I had parked the car after picking ds up from nursery, and needing to get him to his grannies as we are off for the weekend today and need to drop him off, so I know where that dream came from.

Another being I was following DH in the car somewhere and I didn't see him turn off the motorway and I carried on without a clue as to where I was... driving somewhere new always stresses me out

And one other I can remember, being we got to where we are going for the weekend (Morrocco) and I had forgotten my camera

So all related to this trip we are going on, but I didn't sleep at all well.

KezzaG · 26/04/2007 09:54

Hi all

I am with you Apricott on the continuing tiredness. I had hoped to start going for walks in the evening but I am always so tired, I think it may be a bit of a vicious circle though.

It doesnt help that I was expecting an Argos delivery today between 7-12. they called me a 6.05am and said they were 10 minutes away. So I am in the garden at 6.15 in my dressing gown and a messy bed head telling where to put my new garden storage. I am sure some of you get up at the that time anyway but not me!!

I havent really caught up with the last posts from the old thread, but hopefully I can get back on top if it here, so hope everyone is as well as can be expected.

greedygreedyguzzler · 26/04/2007 10:18

6.05am!!!!!! i would have been furious!!!!! actually i would probably have thought it was some big emergency with the phone ringing that early and fallen down the stairs in my panic to get to the phone!!!! thats the kind of thing i do! you have reminded me i am STILL waiting for a parcel of maternity clothes to arrive............must go and chase it up!

have a great day everyone!

J20BABY · 26/04/2007 12:42

honeyapple~been trying to find out if my council offers a grant, but don't know where to start.

hi to everyone else, glad you found us, anyone mind the title of the thread?

Katsh · 26/04/2007 13:04

Thought I'd join in. I'm 15 wks with no.3. Have been lurking, as had mc last year. Got through the v. sick phase, just doing moderately sick now.
Apricott - terry nappies are great, but I wouldn't try a pin. Nappy nippas are little stretchy things that grip the sides and are really easy to use.

Waking up daily with head/ back ache - someone mentioned an ergonomic pillow. What is that?

Nice to be joining you all.

betsycoe · 26/04/2007 13:26

Hi Apricot,
apparently my Mum used terry towling nappies when I was a baby. She stopped using them as one day she came home from shopping (when my Dad was looking after me) to find me screaming the house down. Apparently, he had changed my nappy in a rush and gave me a stomach piercing!

Ah well, no permanent damage was done but I think I'd go with velcro fastenings!

ejt1764 · 26/04/2007 14:25

I used reusables nappies with ds - though I used shaped nappies, which did up with velcro.

This one will be using them too.

I would love to say that it was some great environmental reason that made me use reusables rather than disposables - unfortunately, I just couldn't stand the smell of the chemicals in the disposables!

I also hold the reusables responsible for the fact that ds was out of nappies (in the day at least) at 22 months - which is very early for a boy apparently!

Will sneak off again - am expecting a year 9 class in 5 minutes!

Tallis · 26/04/2007 14:57

Ah-ha. Finally tracked down the new thread.

re ergonomic pillows, coincidentally we also bought one in Ikea just last weekend for my husband's stiff neck. It has swiftly gravitated to my side of the bed, however, ;) where it has done wonders for headaches. It's made out of that foam stuff which moulds to the shape of your head and neck - you can get v expensive versions but I think ours cost us a mighty 13 euros in Ikea in Rome. Bit smaller than normal pillows but supports head/neck in all the right places...

So...cloth nappies. I'd be quite keen if could find them in Italy. But then a friend told me you quite often have to buy bigger clothes to fit over them because they are bulkier than disposables? (There's a site called cut4cloth or something) And that put me off a bit because more difficult to use hand-me-downs etc.

I had a mini-scan today because the doctors here seem to have basic ultrasound machines in their offices. Babe is kicking and squirming which is all I needed to know right now. Also found a midwife who speaks as much English as I do Italian (Ie, next to nothing), but am at least booked in for some antenatal classes. But am soooooooooooooo tired...

Tallis · 26/04/2007 15:01

Back again. Think this is link for Ikea pillow if you can cut and paste it...there's also a special pillow-case for it (two in the packet when we bought ours). Can anyone tell me how to do those crafty web links?
