Have just found out that I am pregnant. Blimey! A bit nervous/scared! DH says scared is too strong a word. Might be from his side of things but I think that I'm scared!
Due 31st Dec or 1st Jan, can't quite work out whether cycle is 29 or 30 days.
First time, so not too sure what to expect!
Anyone else due at new year?

Good evening ladies. Ive had a very quick flick through the thread and glad all is well. I had a good few days at my parents though the weather was pretty rubbish.I bought some acu bands while away which press on the acupressure points on the wrist to stop travel and morning sickness. Guess what? They work. Oh Im so glad I ve been cooking and drinking tea and everything. Theyre great.
I came home to two letters with two scan dates within one day of eachother . Think Id better ring the hospital tomm and sort it out.
Nothing much else to report. Glad all you ladies are doing so well.

Morning all!
I start work at 6.30...so an early bird!

Well i sat there waiting for Ex to come round last night...7.20 he called ( supposed to be round at 7),and said he had an upset tummy, and couldnt make it... I said he really needed to come over at some point as we needed to talk. (I have been away, he asked me to have a termination, and I hadnt told him I was keeping it yet).
He said what did I have to say....So i eneded up telling him on the phone...He went really quiet and said "was there antyhign he could say to me to make me change my mind"....I said No....
He went very quiet...Said he couldnt speka and would call me back...Didnt say what day/month or year though!

Birdseed- I have told my 2 best friends, and my sisters, all jave ben brilliant. Im going to Tell my dad at he weekend, bit scared...dont know what he is going to say...But he is helping me start my nursery, so im sure he will be supportive!

Barristermum- I have told Ex I dont want antyhing form him, he has made it pretty clear his feelings, I actually think he may come round after a few weeks, and want at least some contact maybe,Im hoping we can stay friends, for the sake of Beany.

Mum2sons and toomanyshoes- Thanks for the boost! Its realy good to hear of nice stories, feel quite alone and scared at the moment..and feel like im going to be on my own for the rest of my life...dramatic I know..but that feeling is getting better now.Anyway, im going to have beany!!

Looks like im the first on the projected dates?! Eek....I have an apt on monday so we will see! My birthday is 5th Jan..so maybe ill have a very special pressie!

gingeme · 31/05/2007 09:21

I got my acu bands from Aldis. But you can get them from most pharmacies Ive seen them in Asda and Tesco.
I found them very good so far. Just ashame I didnt discover them 13 years ago when I had my first ds
Oh beller sounds tough with your ex. Its good to now you have family and friends to support you though.
RE vitamins. Has anyone been taking extra preggy vitamins? I took pregnacare in my last pg and have been with this one but was told that the Sonategon ones are better because they have calcium in them.
Catching up on shopping and washing today.
Hope you are all well today.
Take care xx

beller · 31/05/2007 09:30

im taking pregnacare too...I have to speak to my Doc on monay..i have pernicious anaemia, so cant absorb any B vitamins from food or tablets, so have to have it injected. Its every 8 weeks at mom, but think I may need to up them?!

beller · 31/05/2007 09:38

Oh..and quick question....are any of you suffering with constipation?? I went to boots and they gave me the "boots natural fibre drink"...not really helping?! I already eat alot of fruit/veg etc....?

MrsBiscuit · 31/05/2007 09:39

Hello. Could you add me to the list as well? I'm due with my first one on Jan 25th.

It all seems slightly unreal at the moment, and my dh and I have decided not to tell anyone for a few more weeks - we're both a bit nervous that it only will tempt fate if we mention it now - so it's quite a relief to get it off my chest with you ladies.

I've been flicking through the thread and I can't tell you how comforting it is to know that I'm not the only one with sore breasts, funny poo and difficulty doing up my trousers, even at this stage!

What are people's thoughts on exercise? I'm still merrily going to the gym and doing the usual 30 mins cardio followed by situps and crunches - but feeling slightly apprehensive that this might not be great for the beanie. Any views?

beller · 31/05/2007 09:59

I would be careful with the sit-ups and crunchs mrsbiscuit? Im 9 week and still cycling and cross training...I ran the marathon with little Beany, so they can be very hardy!
Birdseed-re working my dates, i think im due 3rd jan too? You 9 weeks today?

MamaMaiasaura · 31/05/2007 10:38

mumy2littleprincess.. Have heard they work, ds seems to benefit from them. They didnt work for me tho.

Re vitamins I thought i was taking pregnacare but actually been takening sanatogen pronatal ditsy pregnancy brain.

Re constipation - very common in early pregnancy - think the bowels 'slow' down.

Welcome & congratulations Mrsbiscuit - re stomach crunches/sit ups - i think these are best avoided in pregnancy afaik. Swimming is meant to be best excercise as gentle helps stretch and work muscles. What is your due date - should should add yourself to list

MOrning Bella - sounds like you have supportive friends and family xx Sorry your ex is being such a twat. I guess it is better now than in 10 months time iyswim.

PBirdy · 31/05/2007 11:50

Good morning All,

Toomanyshoes - we have the same DD! Also, I was so pleased to hear that your jeans are tight already. I don't think I have been eating more than usual but I have noticed that it is getting harder and harder to suck in my tum. So glad to hear of others also saying this becausae you see so many people who are 3 months and rake thin.

Beller - you poor thing what an ordeal with your ex. I can only imagine just how frustrating that telephone call was with him. Stay strong x Also, on the constipation question, my MIL suggested a cup of warm water with some lemon in it in the morning and it does seem to help, as does drinking lots of water. I haven't tried anything from the pharmacy as yet becuase it is so confusing what you can and can't take and I can't be bothered to wait in the long queue to speak to the Pharmacist.

Gingeme - I have been taking the Boots "Mum to Be" prengnancy vitamins. They seem to be ok although I haven't tried anything else.

Also, general question on that - my pregnancy vitamins have folic acid in them. I realise that you are only supposed to take the folic acid for the first 12 weeks. Now, I will be half way though a packet by then (I started taking them while ttc) so do I throw away the packet or do I finish it? Is there anything wrong with taking folic acid after 12 weeks?

Mrs B - I am so impressed that you are still going to the gym (and the other ladies who are too). I just feel so nauseaous all the time at the moment and especially when I am walking to and from the tube that there is no way I could do proper exercise inside the gym. Well done. I don't think you are supposed to do the sit-ups though - I read something in the Kaz Cooke book on that can't quite remember. The rest is great though.

Another general q - Are most people here in London? How are you coping with the tube? I am ok at the moment (although some days I wish for a bump so that I could guilt people into giving me a seat!) I am a bit worried about when it gets hotter. This is only my second summer in London (I am Australian) and it can get VERY hot on the central line during summer. I am worried about the whole over-heating thing. Has anyone got any thoughts on that?

Sorry for the long post!

PBirdy x

MrsBiscuit · 31/05/2007 12:49

Thanks for the advice - I'm more than happy to stop the situps (always the least favourite bit of the workout).

PBirdy, I'm not in London any more - moved out to Hampshire 3 months ago - but I lived in Battersea and Putney for a long time and I'd recommend getting the bus if you can. It takes a bit longer but it was always more civilised than the tube.

MrsB

beller · 31/05/2007 13:01

pbirdy...
Im in London..but get the overhead into Liverpool street and walk accross to cannon street, I hate the tube and can only imagine what it will be like in a few weeks time!

MamaMaiasaura · 31/05/2007 13:27

MrsBiscuit - I am hampshire ..

beller · 31/05/2007 14:12

do we have any essex bumps here?

skibump · 31/05/2007 14:20

Wow, busy thread (do I always say that?!)

Welcome to the new ladies, can't believe how many of us there are on here now.

PBirdy, don't hold your breath re getting a seat on the tube even when you're REALLY pg. Sad but true Re the folic acid, I don't think there's any problem with taking it after 12 weeks - there is even talk of putting it in bread so it must be generally safe. On a similar note, I'm taking the pregnacare with omega3 ones, but I also eat quite a lot of fish etc. Anyone know if it's possible to o/d on that?

Re constipation (regualr topic here, unlike RL!) can't remember who asked, but dried apricots work a treat for me, and have the added benefit of being high in iron, which I had a problem with last time around.

I had my m/w booking appt this morning, she was really nice and everything seemed fine, but still spotting so (after talking to her) I'll ring the hospital next week and arrange another scan, just to make sure. It's definitely loads better than it was tho, which is positive.

skibump · 31/05/2007 14:24

Oh, re the gym etc, I think it's all pretty much fine as long as you feel ok (tho I might avoid the crunches too). Last time I ran a 10km, did the 3 peaks, played badminton, went skiing etc and generally felt better for it. This time tho it looks as though I'll be sticking to swimming.

skibump · 31/05/2007 14:27

Idea. How about we add locations on to the list?

fruitful · 31/05/2007 14:27

pbirdy - don't think there is a prob with taking folic acid after 12 weeks, you just don't need to take it after then

I'm taking ClearBlue preg vits cos they have hardly any iron in them. And then I take Spatone for iron. I worked out in my first pg that the reason for the awful constipation was not the pregnancy but the bl**dy Pregnacare tablets!

I'm getting a bit of brown/pink mucus which is freaking me slightly (chanting "old blood, old blood" when I wipe!). But still feeling nastily sick so that is a good sign I guess. I have some seabands somewhere but haven't seen them since we moved house and they could be anywhere.

Where in Essex, Beller? I'm in North Herts, about 20min from the Essex border .

PBirdy · 31/05/2007 14:35

Thank you ladies for your advice. I will keep on with the vitamins until I finish them - such as waste otherwise.

I feel much more gloomy about the tube though! It really is the most efficient way to get to the office. I will explore the bus options ...

I am in Bayswater. Anyone else near there?

beller · 31/05/2007 14:41

Im in Brentwood ..love it there, but might have to move near to Bromley when I have beany,as thats where my sisters live and would have more support? Still thinking about it though!

plummymummy · 31/05/2007 15:14

Hello beller - welcome to thread and sorry about problems with your ex. Glad you're happy about the pg though - as if you were unsure you'd be even more miserable iyswim. My mum brought us up on her own and did a fantastic job Hello Pbirdy - welcome Hello everyone else Went to doctor today. Was underwhelmed by the service on offer in my area. First I was told that I have no choice where I give birth . Then I was told that I am at the mercy of a dodgy admin system at the epu hence I may get no notice of when my scan will be (need to give notice to work, as does dh). Finally I was told that post natally the midwife will only visit once during the 10 days and in some cases not at all. When I pointed out to the dr that the lack of choice contravened the National Service Framework, she said she didn't know if it applied to obstetrics. I told her it does and cited it. She then replied that until next April they are obliged to stick with Mayday Hospital (Croydon)until their funding review.
