anythingnoteverything - I take it you're going to Leeds too? I'm actually live in Kirklees but didn't want to give birth in Dewsbury and I work & grew up in Leeds so it was the only choice.

(Btw I changed my name - seemed silly having my surname as my username)

karategirl · 01/01/2018 17:22

So, who else had a majorly rock and roll New Year's Eve? Mine consisted of doing a puzzle in front of the fire, drinking a hot chocolate and ordering Chinese takeaway (and consequently feeling horrendously sick all night), playing and winning, obviously! a couple of games of Scrabble with Mr Karate and falling asleep on the sofa at 10:30 whilst he watched a film Grin

@Heregoeseverything Having always been incredibly flat chested I was hoping for blimp like boobs but they've not materialised as yet! I just have huge mutant nipples... I don't want to tell anyone else until I've told my brothers, which will probably be late January when I'll be around 14 weeks. Assuming I don't balloon before then, hopefully it'll be achievable. I hope the nausea's been easier for you today!

Hi @Dontcallmejohnboy, congratulations! How did the 12 week message go?

@Skyechasemarshalontheway and @Alexandra87 We're not planning to have the screening tests either. We also aren't going to find out what we're having - is anyone else planning to keep it a surprise?

@Daphne33 It's great to hear that you've had a bit more excitement from the family now - perhaps they just needed a bit of time to process it?

I've just been googling ante natal classes and can't find anything in my town. A fair amount in towns nearby, but I was hoping there would be something I could walk to. I know they run aqua natal at the pool down the road, so hoping to start up with that at some point (subject to being able to leave work on time in the evening...) but does anyone have any other ideas? I know I'm being a bit overzealous as I have ages yet until I'll be attending, but I'm just a bit anxious about meeting people and building up a local network, because we don't actually know that many people near where we live (both my husband and I commute to work, so we're not actually here all that much!)

lifechangesforeverinjuly · 01/01/2018 19:06

We actually did go out to the bar on the campsite where we stay / PIL live - I ate my fair share of party food and then came home to sleep. Perfect.

DontCallMeJohnBoy · 01/01/2018 19:18

Karategirl, the message went well, apart from the person who started the inquisition - why didn't I tell them at Christmas? (because the scan showed I was further on than I'd thought and we wanted to tell DS before telling wider family and we weren't telling him before 11 weeks), will we be finding out the sex at 20 weeks? (we've had a miscarriage risk of 40+%, I've given this no thought at all) but everyone else was thrilled and one cried down the text at me.

Our first NHS scan won't be until mid-Jan when I'll be about 14 - 15 weeks, no date for the appointment as yet.

AnythingNotEverything · 01/01/2018 22:31

@lifechangesinjuly - yes I am! Have had 3 babies at LGI now.

Re: screening tests, it's a totally personal decision, but the combined screening is for Edwards and Patau's too, and they're a very different proposition to Down's Syndrome. On the Thursday before Christmas we had a meeting with the screening midwife as our screening came back as high risk for Edward sand Patau's- 1 in 133, so still pretty unlikely but high enough to be called in to talk about it. We paid for the IONA there and then and on Friday finally got the results that we were actually low risk. We're so relieved. I couldn't have continued a pregnancy knowing baby had either of those two conditions, but feel very differently about Down's - in that situation we'd want to be prepared! It's totally personal, but having almost faced that dilemma recently I'd look into those other conditions before you turn down screening.

No judgement or anything from me - totally personal decision, but it's not just about Down's.

Hello ladies :) can I join? I'm at 12 weeks +1, scan tomorrow.. I've been having a pretty horrible time so far with this pregnancy as I've had awful morning sickness and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere 😩😩 the evenings are the worst, I actually go to bed at 630pm to avoid being conscious during them.. hubby doing pretty much everything in the house (we already have 3 boys...). I'm a bit worried as my scan is at 6pm tomorrow and I don't know how I'm going to get through it (although obv still excited). Hope everyone is getting off to a good start to 2018!

LollipopsandWine · 02/01/2018 20:06

Hi everyone, can I join in too? I am 10 + 3, and still awaiting a booking in appointment. Starting to get a bit twitchy - mumsnetting is helping!

suz1rr · 02/01/2018 21:26

@daphne33 I'll be 12+2 on the 18th at my scan, seems like ages away, even though its just over 2 weeks away, aaaargh!!

Alexandra87 · 02/01/2018 21:33

@1Strawberry I have 3 boys too!
Did you have the sickness in your other pregnancies?

DontCallMeJohnBoy · 02/01/2018 21:46

Lollipops, how come the wait is so long to book in? Mine was delayed as the receptionist asked how pregnant I thought I was rather than the date of my last period, as the midwife would have preferred me to have been booked in earlier than the 11 weeks I turned out to be? I was just bunged into the first available slot when I'd definitely be over 8 weeks, which was nearly 4 weeks after I phoned to book.

Hugs to the posters suffering with sickness. Mine was dreadful in my first pregnancy (and I was on public transport so always worried about needing to throw up as I needed to leave for the bus) and it was grim.

LollipopsandWine · 03/01/2018 01:17

JohnBoy I have no idea. On the one hand, I'm trying to wait patiently because I know the midwives are busy and we've just had Christmas and I'll get my turn... But on the other hand I am worried my GP has screwed up my referral and I'll miss my 12 week scan at this rate.

Daphne33 · 03/01/2018 08:16

@LollipopsandWine
Hi and welcome!
If any comfort re the contact and timelines, I was referred at 8wks and possibly due to the Christmas holidays, have got my booking in appointment for this Friday at 11+2. They sent me this letter when about a week and a half after my referral. I also received a second letter last week (before NY) on the date of my scan which will be at 13+3. I've read that typically this "12 wk scan" will be conducted between 11-14wks and preferably not more than 14wks.
I'm based in SE London if that helps!

If u are not contacted this week (check ur mail too!), maybe u can google "NHS midwife your area" as I was told to do for self-referral options. Hope this helps!

LollipopsandWine · 03/01/2018 09:47

Daphne33 thanks, that is reassuring! I was referred at 6 +4 so I feel like it's been forever, but with Christmas and New Year it's pretty understandable. I was on trimethoprim and another antibiotic in the first few weeks, my GP seems concerned, so I'm a little over-eager to see the midwife! But if it's usually anything up to 14 weeks then I have ages yet 😊

1Strawberry · 03/01/2018 12:24

Alexandra87 - (how do I make that in bold...?), that's nice another boy mum 😊 how old are your boys? I have been sick with all pregnancies but this has been the worst, my mum is convinced it's twins :s, I'll find out tonight anyway! I'm imagining it's probably just one boy...!
Do you think you'll find out the sex at 20 weeks? I don't want to in case it is a girl which would be a massive surprise on birth day... but hubby determined to find out!

Alexandra87 · 03/01/2018 22:15

Mine are 7,6 & 3. How old are yours?
We'll definitely find out I'm too impatient Grin

lifechangesforeverinjuly · 04/01/2018 06:12

Does anyone else feel 'just not pregnant' I've had no sickness, sore boobs have gone. The only thing I have is some round ligament pains and the ability to wee every hour!

I have my scan tomorrow at 12+4 so it's probably just me stressing again like I did with the private one, roll on 12pm tomorrow.

AnythingNotEverything · 04/01/2018 07:53

@lifechangesforeverinjuly that's really normal as your placenta takes over. Good luck with your scan!

I think I've added everyone to the fb group who has messaged me. Send me a DM if you want to join up :-)

Minster2012 · 05/01/2018 07:55

Hi, can I join please?
Unusual one here as my best friend is pregnant as a surrogate for myself & DH as I can’t carry a child due to ongoing skin cancer treatment (managed into remission for 2.5 years with an amazing drug I lose if I stop it hence can’t stop it TTC)

DC1, 33 currently, told 26 had skin cancer, then 30 the Cancer was back & would kill me, 31 into full remission, by time I’m 34 miracle due 27th July, 11 weeks today 😁

Have been watching the thread as it gives me great insight knowing what she’s going through for our dream. Only parents & siblings know, we told on Christmas Day.

I didn’t realise the early bits of pregnancy were so bad 🙈🙈 I keep apologising to her!!

Hulaballoo · 05/01/2018 08:09

@Minster2012 aww so wonderful your little one is coming in July! Congratulations! And welcome! So happy as well that youre in remission, can't imagine what you're going through, so strong. I'm sure your best friend must be over the moon to surrogate for you so try not to feel guilty, easier said I'm sure. Xx

Alexandra87 · 05/01/2018 10:46

Hi @Minster2012 congratulations on your new baby. So glad your in remission.

LollipopsandWine · 05/01/2018 11:52

Still no letter. And I've been calling antenatal referrals for 2 days now! I called 12 times yesterday and nobody answered. And today I called the hospitals main switch and asked to be put through. I have just been on hold for 14 minutes, and then the line went dead.

Would it be wrong of me to just go to the Early Pregnancy Unit and explain? I'm 11 weeks tomorrow...

Minster2012 · 05/01/2018 12:12

Thank you!! Lovely reading how my friend might be feeling (obviously we talk everyday) but though she says she’s been being sick I doubt she tells me the full horror!!

LucyDolly · 05/01/2018 12:25

hey all I was pretty active in December but haven't been on for a few weeks.

Had our private scan on 23rd ...all well I was 9 weeks ...sonographer said 8+5 then 9 . so was happy when he asked me and I said 9 .

heard heartbeat it was fabbbb and great photo. he tried 4d but just looked like a bit of the moon to me hahah!

Christmas day we told our mothers/close family arranged a helium baby ballon and asked neice to open the box no one guess a think....q lots of happy tears.

I have been tremendously sick since Monday diarrhea and pains like nothing before . I was crying in pain to OH rang midwife triage but to be honest felt fobbed off she basically said nothing they can do drink fluids and rest...fair enough but I was so anxious as the pain was 8.5/10 like someone stabbing me repeatedly in the belly.

work were sympathetic and said stay at home until Monday - however supervisor was like lucy you were sick before Christmas (ms in work) are you sure your okay...they don't know yet as going through a contract change which I asked for months ago and HR are a pain too scared to tell them preg until contract has been changed

some how yesterday I started to eat and keep in plain food and today I feel like a new women. woke up with ms and then have more energy than I have had for weeks.

just praying baby is okay ...official nhs scan on 15th

hope everyone else is going well. I'm one of the last so I think we should all nearly be in trimester 2 :) x

daffodil196 · 05/01/2018 14:18

Hi everyone, happy new year. Thought I'd pop on to say we had our 12 week scan today and everything was great! Baby was very wiggly ☺ my due date has been moved forward to 14/7 which feels good as means it's closer! The hyperemesis is still awful but I'm able to do a little bit more than I was so the meds must be doing something. Roll on July!

lifechangesforeverinjuly · 05/01/2018 15:13

Well here he/she is! Any guesses? LOL.

All seems good, 12+2 so due date back a couple of days to 18th July so I may get some peace and quiet for my 30th birthday on the 15th!

Little monkey wouldn't get in position for the NT measurement though so I've got to have a quadruple blood test at 15 weeks. I HATE blood tests, today was bad enough!
