Ria, I think we'll be if you're not mad/weird/off the wall, you certainly make me laugh!

at the bag mania! Why do people pay so much money for things?! Well done to all those profiteering from the madness!

catsuitgirl · 25/04/2007 10:21

Obviously I'm kicking ass as well as sleeping. More in a metaphorical way at present, but the intention' still there... But yes, I think catnapgirl may well be my next incarnation

Anyone else finding that tomatoes are a nightmare for heartburn? Had salad and lasagna last night and I'm sure it was the tomatoes that kept me up all night.

And sputnik, wow I feel for you. In fact all of you visiting/having in-laws/random family members visiting. Really unneccessary stress when you just want to do your own thing. DH got many many brownie points the other day when MIL invited us up to lunch (3 hour drive) - he told her that he knew I'd say yes but that he also knew I was getting really tired and so he was going to say 'no' on my behalf. I knew there was a reason why I married him.

Seansgirl · 25/04/2007 10:23

Just been reading a bit more of thread (takes for ever to catch up! )

BZ for the shag! Just not fair! Its going to be ages before I get one!

LOL about the first poo! Yes, its all coming horribly back to me. It was rather horrible, and I do remember sloshing water around when weeing! Urghhhh! The first two weeks are vile! (from a self point of view that is - obviously it is truly wonderful to have LO in your arms!)

On the slings you could be right BZ on the height thing - as you all know am very tall and really loved my babybjorn sling!

see you later girls xx

Seansgirl · 25/04/2007 10:25

Catsuitgirl! Your DH sounds fab! He sounds like he will be a marvellous 'gate keeper' when you are LO are first home - just what you need. Make sure he keeps visits to one a day and for short spells only! And definately no house guests!!!

Seansgirl · 25/04/2007 10:26

Meaning overnight guests there!

riabutterflew · 25/04/2007 10:26

This housework thing isn't working for me. I shouldn't make promises I can't keep.

Have 1 hour til collecting DS2 from Pgroup. Need a task that looks impressive but takes no effort. I am so hot and puffy. Hope I don't get bulldog face again.

BadZelda · 25/04/2007 10:45

Actually my worst memory from hospital the first time was trying to wash myself in the (doorless) bathroom of the 4 bed ward I was on, and some numpty (male) orderly coming in and insisting that I tell him what I wanted for lunch, when I'm standing in the bath trying to rinse the blood off my fanjo! That REALLY pissed me off - one off the main reasons I want to have the baby at home this time was the filth and total lack of privacy in the washing dept! That and the f inconsiderate women who spent all day / night on their mobiles in between their bratty babies screaming (I sound like such a lovely person don't I?). Thank God I was only in there one night...as I didn't get a wink of sleep despite Ella sleeping the first night through.

BrownSuga · 25/04/2007 10:53

is it too late to back out of this having a baby business, glad that you're all sharing though, forewarned is forearmed and all that.

catsuitgirl · 25/04/2007 11:01

Yeah, my intention is to get out of hospital as quickly as I possibly can. I remember visiting my mum in hospital when she had a heart scare and the food was crap and they moved beds around at night with the lights on - I mean, not exactly conducive to recovery, is it?!

And after reading this thread, will now be stocking up on prunes and eating them through the deliver...

hollyandalice · 25/04/2007 11:21

Hospitals are pretty crap! I didn't sleep a wink the night dd was born either. She slept from about 10 til 8 the next morning (a feat that wasn't repeated for about 18 months!) and I spent most of the night listening to one woman snoring! She was worse than my dp and that is pretty bad! It also felt a bit strange being away from dp for the first night of our baby's life. I shall be having a home birth this time too!

My bags are up to £38 each already!

Catsuitgirl your DH should be looking for a career in dilpomacy
To be fair to mine too he was as non-plussed with MIL as me on the overstimulation comments.

Badzelda you might be right about the slings but I have no sewing macine and know I'd never get around to it. After looking around a lot these looked much the nicest, Bumper found some fab reviews too.

And bathrooms with no doors? Wtf do they think you'll be shooting up in there or something? My hospital didn't have a shower but at least there were doors. Worst thing for me was the 1001 relatives, friends, neighbours, associated children and passers by who came to visit the girl in the next bed from me, it's really the done thing here to visit new mothers in hospital. The hospital had a 2 visitors at a time rule that they never even attempted to enforce. Plus it was the hottest week of the year, which in Rome is no joke. Windows were kept strictly shut whenever the babies were in the room as Italian children are liable to drop dead at the slightest draught.

Seansgirl · 25/04/2007 11:28

LOL Ria - that sounds like me when I take DD to pre-schoo - by the time I get back and do a few jobs its time to go and get her again! It is never ending trying to get on top of this squalor!

Hospitals are pretty yuky - at least our bathrooms had doors on (BZ - no door! ) Am taking antibac wipes in my bag and also that antibac hand gel - I do not trust the hygiene! Didn't sleep a wink the 2 nights I was there - neither did DD! I don't know if its the same for all hospitals - but it was sooooo hot and stuffy! yuk! I am planning the minimum stay of 6 hours if they won't let me have homebirth.

sputnik · 25/04/2007 11:29

I got no sleep the night before delivery, as I had contractions all night, or the night after either, too excited. Then they tend to come round at six in the morning to take your temperature or some other random medical thing. Hospitals are not restful places. At least the food was edible at mine, even for a veggie.

Seansgirl · 25/04/2007 11:34

Oh and why the f*** do people use their mobiles in hospital? Why? It really annoys me when there are signs everywhere saying switch off and they still don't! Are they that important they have to be contactable 24/7? Its not like you're on Mars or something you have a personal TV /phone that you can register and pay for if you need to speak to anyone whilst you're in the middle of contractions FFS! Sheilds herself in case of any backlash and abuse and sulks of quietly.......

Sorry rant over am going to do some of my many jobs

sputnik · 25/04/2007 11:41

Good tip on the handwash. I supose we should be thinking about hospital bags soon, shouldn't we.

Sputnik's quick housekeeping tip of the day: walk out of the room. Walk in again. Whats the first messy thing you notice? Clean it up. My house is a tip BTW.

Just been looking at all your profiles, nice to put faces to names and see your gorgeous DCs. Unsure whether to take the plunge myself now. Holly, with all your tabletop dancing exploits I had always pictured you as a blonde

sputnik · 25/04/2007 11:44

The hospital where I went last time and plan to go again didn't ban mobiles. I'm planning on borrowing DH's pocket pc and posting from there when the time comes They do keep you in 2 nights min though

derlor · 25/04/2007 11:53

hello ya'll i'm back from a quick shopping trip - HAD to go to Mothercare as woke up in a blind panic last night cause i have bought NOTHING for my hospital bag - so now have maternity towels and breast pads phew!! Clearly i have officially lost the plot. now i just have to buy pj's feeding bras (none in my size today ) nappies, cotton wool etc etc.....
I also only plan to stay in hospital for 6 hours if all OK. "theres no place like home!"

ps. my bag is selling for £41 and still got 11 hours to go!!(muppets)
oh and my DH only got to shop at 0755 so not SO much madness up here 0500 indeed (wierdos)

hollyandalice · 25/04/2007 11:58

I have to say I did text loads of people when I was in hospital! I didn't talk on it in the middle of the night and I kept it on silent!

I quite enjoyed the hospital food, I had a nice veggie stew for lunch the next day! I find being a veggie gets you much nicer food in hospital and on airlines! I always end up with some lovely curry or stew on planes and dp gets some leathery dried up bit of chicken!

I am going to pack a pretty basic hosp bag as am planning a home birth, but I'm sure it'll still be massive!

OP posts:
hollyandalice · 25/04/2007 12:03

Yes derlor they are a bunch of muppets!! £150 indeed! Let's hope ours go up that much! Also how very organised of you to buy hosp bag stuff!

OP posts:
riabutterflew · 25/04/2007 12:11

With all this talk of crap hospitals I am going to ask my MW what kind of aftercare I get if I come home a soon as I can. I seem to remember getting pushed through lots of communal areas in a wheelchair covered only in blood and a sheet and there were lots of Dads about (OK so they had probably seen it all before slightly earlier in the day, but they hadn't seen mine!)

Must go and attend to lunch for DS2 who has been very good and didn't have a tantrum. Then I will have to put the stuff back in the cupboard under the sink, minus the crap (only two jam jars though...)

hollyandalice · 25/04/2007 12:15

Oh bumper I forgot, one of the women that works in Sainsburys told my dp that they are going to be selling the bags with blue writing on on May 7th. I don't know how true this is as I can't find out anything about it, but it may be worth doing some research. If it is true I shall buy an extra for you!

OP posts:
Seansgirl · 25/04/2007 12:34

Sorry girls my rant seems a bit OTT! Holly, you sound very considerate, I'm sure you didn't bother anyone. So, does anyone know then if it is a myth that the phones interfere with hospital equipment?

foxybrown · 25/04/2007 12:39

I think its in the A&E, life support and the serious stuff that mobiles interfere. I was allowed to have mine when I was in. It was bloody grim though! It costs a fortune to call from the bedside phones, and for people to call in if I remember rightly.

All this hospital talk is scary! Its all so lovely and warm in the bubble of the delivery suite, then you go into the grimness of post-labour! Am so scared of having to go in
