@Northernbeachbum Yes to be fair my male colleagues and others I work with regularly have been great when told, most of them have children and have launched into nostalgia or empathised by proxy, "My wife was sleeping under her desk" etc. One colleague said, "Oh no!" because we are working on something together but we both found that funny as it just slipped out, he didn't really mean it!

The cold makes my transport nausea worse so I'm another 90 year old wrapping up warm indoors (quite apart from the slip risk)! I'm lucky that my usual sleeping position is on my left side, but somehow every bone seems to misplace itself overnight these days, I feel okay and can go back to sleep once I've "cracked" every joint in my body! My neck, shoulders and feet are usually a bit painful from hypermobility but it's definitely worse in pregnancy (and I don't want to pop painkillers though I've been encouraged to do so by my consultant!). I'm thinking of getting into pregnancy massage...

dinksandbinks · 01/03/2018 21:44

@Heregoeseverything To be honest, once I'm up and shuffling it's not too bad! It's more of an ache than sharp pain, and I get so agitated if I'm not active so for me it's worthwhile pain, and as long as I'm slow and careful with my steps it's honestly ok (90 year old here too!). Also very aware that mine is not nearly as bad as some people's SPD, and the midwife was hopeful if I get on with physio ASAP that should stop it getting worse.

@Northernbeachbum It sounds from your last post that you are quite sore! Actually it sounds like both of you have enough aches and pains that I don't! I can't imagine having hypermobility, it sounds really horrid. I think we should all copy Heregoeseverything and get pregnancy massages just to keep the aches at bay! Fantastic idea!

Great to hear you have such supportive workplaces!! I'm in a male-dominated industry too, and also nerd-dominated (I can say this as I am a nerd), where most people are a little socially awkward. I was dreading telling my colleagues but thankfully when I did, the amazing intern was so excited and she said all the usual stuff and distracted me from the fact the others were just sat looking awkwardly at their feet. So funny!

Good evening ladies,
Sorry some are having a rough time at the moment. And I know this weather does not help at all.
Keep in mind it's March so not long until all those June babies arrive 😊.

Just to answer a few questions I saw, Amayah has a plan for a due date release however depending on progress (i.e. weight gain, development and feeds etc) she may be able to come home sooner.
She has to work her way through rooms (development wise and medical machinery dependability) then the less dependable she is quicker home time will be.

I got told off today by the nurse as I have been basically living next to the incubator. So they have set me tasks to remember I am a person outside of NICU. For example going to see a movie etc. That will be hard.

Anyway ladies look after yourselves and try and keep off the streets at the moment snow/ice is awful. Keep warm and wrapped up 😊

Northernbeachbum · 01/03/2018 22:28

How odd, DP has just walked in with a voucher for a pregnancy massage......do you think he's watching our thread Grin

@mummyloves09 fantastic they have a plan in place and are making sure that you get some time away from NICU. Have you had a chance to give her a cuddle yet?

@heregoeseverything I got a similar "but you can't" from a colleague, we tend to have our little moans to each other.

@dinksandbinks and @heregoeseverything, maybe we need to emigrate temporarily to warmer climates for health reasons

Mummyloves09 · 02/03/2018 06:13

@northernbeachbum no we can't cuddle her yet. But they are trying to lessen her wires, tubes and contraption for skin to skin. Which they stated is very beneficial to preemies. So hopefully soon. But we change nappies and bedding alongside the nurses.

Migrating to a hot climate sounds great with this weather. Where we are was -2 yesterday which felt like -12.

Bluesnail · 02/03/2018 07:36

@Mummyloves09 so pleased to hear that baby Amayah is doing well, and I am so impressed by how well you're doing-it must be hell having your lovely little one in NICU. I would be the same, living next to her incubator, so good luck for getting out and about a bit more (not that you want to when it's -2!)
I definitely vote for moving to a warmer climate @northernbeachbum! There's about 2 foot of snow outside my front door at the moment.
@Heregoeseverything nosebleedgate made me laugh out loud! Grin such a good name for it. I'm surrounded by ladies in my shop, who have been amazing and all we seem to do is talk babies now!

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 02/03/2018 10:02

@Mummyloves09 So glad to hear Amayah is doing so well.

The nurses are right though, you need to make time for yourself hard as it is. I got myself into such a state when ds was in NICU, not sleeping, not eating if they hadn't intervened and essentially got a Doctor to drag me back to the postnatal ward, I suspect I would have collapsed sooner rather than later.

SparklesandBubbles · 02/03/2018 20:10

@Northernbeachbum and those suffering SPD type symptoms - I've been the same and having been referred to a Physio have just completed a 6 week Physio led Pilates programme. It's taken me from barely being able to walk for 10mins in January to happily walking quite fast now so I would highly recommend Pilates. I've found a number of youTube videos that I've also been doing that are great to follow. Useful for those housebound with the snow.

@Heregoeseverything You are lucky to only just needing to reveal it. I feel enormous now and there's is absolutely no doubt I'm preggers!

I'm definitely waking up more and more in the night and in the morning I feel like I've run a marathon - every part of my body seems to hurt - luckily it does ease off as I get moving!

My DH surprised me with a pregnancy massage for Valentine's Day and it was amazing (bit painful at times) but the result afterwards was amazing.

@Mummyloves09 So pleased Amayah is doing well - bet you can't wait for that first proper cuddle. Guess it's important to get away from NICU but I would probably be like you and want to be with her 24/7! Glad you are getting out a bit though. Stay strong xx

NooNooHead1981 · 03/03/2018 13:47

@Mummylove09 It's great to hear Amayah is doing so brilliantly! You sound like a fantastic mum and I'm sure she will be home sooner than you think. It must be very worrying but I'm sure she has the best possible care and medical team looking after her. As PP have said, stay strong. Smile

Just a quick question... has anyone had any v light spotting at 24 weeks? I had a v v small pinprick yesterday (just once) and it hasn't happened since, and I had the same thing happen about 6 weeks ago. I also got checked out for another episode of bleeding about a month ago and my GP called the maternity unit who didn't seem too concerned. I'm seeing my consultant on Tuesday, but will keep an eye on bump - baby seems to be moving ok and is kicking away as usual so unless the spotting happens again, I won't call the midwife team and wait until Tues. Doesn't stop me worrying like a mad thing though!

SparklesandBubbles · 03/03/2018 15:04

@NooNooHead1981 sorry to hear you are having spotting but I believe it is quite normal - some women have spotting others don't. I had a tiny amount very early on but not had any since. If it's causing you to worry then phone your midwife team. I always think it's better to talk to the experts if you are worrying as that's only going to cause undue stress. You should definitely raise it on Tuesday when you go in xx

Cookie1831 · 03/03/2018 19:54

I had spotting at 24 weeks with my first all was fine and that was with placenta previa I just kept an eye on it and if any heavier was told to ring hospital, baby was moving fine too x

Northernbeachbum · 04/03/2018 20:24

@nonohead1981 did you talk to anyone about the spotting?

@sparklesandbubbles I'll have to try to find that on YouTube. I think he's had a growth spurt and now only comfy lying flat on my back. I'm dreading work as I just know I'll be in agony nightly

SparklesandBubbles · 04/03/2018 22:58

@Northernbeachbum here are a few I've used:
This is more yoga than Pilates but a lot of the stretches are similar

This ones ok if you can put up with the voice!!

If you think it would help I also have some Physio leaflets I was given with exercises in - I could scan them and send to you.

Northernbeachbum · 05/03/2018 04:11

@sparklesandbubbles thank you so much for the links, I'm going to get started on that today

Cookie1831 · 05/03/2018 17:42

My back is achy but mainly because am sooooooo constipated am sitting on the loo as I type! Tried prunes drinking hot water and syrup of figs none with much success anybody any amazing pregnancy friendly remedies?! This is such a pain in the ass Wink

SparklesandBubbles · 05/03/2018 20:15

@Cookie1831 are you still taking multi vitamins? If so maybe stop them as they usually have high iron content which bung you up! I was told by my midwife to not take them every day as my iron levels are relatively high. I found prunes or dried apricots worked.

Cookie1831 · 06/03/2018 07:53

I am taking plain folic acid and vit D only I usually do struggle a bit even when not pregnant, think I will try the apricots i really like them!
24 weeks today yay hello viability Smile

SparklesandBubbles · 06/03/2018 13:55

@Cookie1831 congrats on your viability! Good luck with the apricots - I also find grapes work but you have to pretty much eat a whole punnet!

Pittcuecothecookbook · 06/03/2018 14:05

I'm 26 weeks + 1 day today. Tommorow I'll be having a massage on Marrakech and they've emailed to say that it's only suitable if I'm 6 months along. I'm just there. Has anyone heard of this and what do you all think, will it be fine? X

SparklesandBubbles · 06/03/2018 15:12

@Pittcuecothecookbook I'm sure it will be fine. I had a pregnancy massage on Valentine's Day and I was 25wk+4. Maybe just read up a bit on what you should and shouldn't have in pregnancy massage in case they do things a bit differently in Morocco. I had mine focus on my hips and upper back and it was amazing! I felt so much better afterwards!

Cookie1831 · 06/03/2018 19:49

Thanks sparkles I do love grapes too, will get on the fruit this week!!
Yeah the massage should be fine most places say from 12 weeks and you are the required 6 months so I would go and enjoy it, saying that if it is worrying you then swap to a facial so you can really chill x

MegEmski · 07/03/2018 08:26

I've been pointed in the direction of this thread, yay hello everyone!

I'm due June 8th, so I'm 26+5 today.

Will try to go back through and catch up on what everyone is talking about

Northernbeachbum · 07/03/2018 08:55

@cookie1831 I've generally had the opposite problem Blush I do eat a lot of fruit and veg though (that's not a stealth boast, I also seem to eat a lot of cake!). I have stopped the multi vitamins though as I ran out

ClareB83 · 07/03/2018 08:56

Hi @MegEmski welcome!

I think recent topic highlights include SPD, constipation and nursery decor.

On your other thread you said you were planning a Home birth. What made you choose that?

I have to have an ELCS so not an option for me, but my nan has six of eight at home!

OP posts:
MegEmski · 07/03/2018 09:13

thanks @clareb83

I've managed to avoid SPD thank goodness as I have friends suffering. Do get achy quickly from mucking out / trekking up muddy fields with horses but grateful I'm still able to do those things.

I don't have a nursery Sad since I don't have a house.... haha. DH seeing the accountant today so all the fingers and toes crossed we can start the mortgage ball rolling. Only slightly tight timescales with a due date of June. I've also mostly avoided constipation. I wonder if it's because I'm addicted to orange juice Grin

Which I guess makes my choice (if it works) of a home birth even more odd. But I've got my parents house (we currently live in a one room annex in their garden).
I get stressed by the planning of the getting to the hospital, bag ready, what the experience will be like in the hospital, midwives here there everywhere, perhaps not enough staff on (poor beleaguered NHS) whereas the calm of a homebirth really really appeals. Also, my area & hospital is one of the top 3 for home births so it's really strong in my area which I think also encouraged me.

@Pittcuecothecookbook hope you enjoy your massage! I'm going to a spa hen weekend in April (I think I will be 32 weeks!) and hoping to have a nice pregnancy massage then.

Is anyone else sleeping badly because of racing heart / odd vivid dreams - often not nice ones?
