Talking of breastfeeding I just got back from a free NHS Breastfeeding class at my local hospital and I feel like I learnt loads. Well worth doing. They also gave us little syringes and encouraged us to colostrum harvest from 36 weeks if poss.

I heard something today about putting witch hazel on pads and then freezing them for after labour. Has anyone here who already had a baby tried this?

@rosegarden very similar! What date is your scan? I’m really hoping mine makes an early appearance naturally too! Had a mw appt today and bump is 37 weeks size wise so fingers crossed (I’m actually 35wks today)

boatrace30 · 13/03/2018 20:37

@Aspenn17 - I didn't freeze pads due to having a c-section but I do know quite a few people who've done this and found it very helpful!

MrsDishavingaB · 13/03/2018 21:05

I've heard that you don't even have to freeze them for the witch hazel to soothe you. I bought everything to make these but guess I won't need it anymore!

boatrace30 · 14/03/2018 13:57

Booked for the 28th March @MrsDishavingaB ! Will anyone be beating us to it??

MrsDishavingaB · 14/03/2018 14:00

Ah no way! Let's hope they both go smoothly and we get in quickly ☺️
As far as I know only @Sunshinesaz86 has an actual date before us!

boatrace30 · 14/03/2018 14:17

Yes be prepared to hang about. Last time I arrived at 8am and was initially told the baby would likely be born around 10am. But they had to emergencies and I was the second elective so it was 1:30pm and they nearly sent me home!!

olicat · 14/03/2018 19:28

So exciting that we know when the first thread babies are going to arrive! (Unless anyone else's makes an early appearance).

Had a midwife appointment yesterday and baby is head down but not engaged, but am only 34+4 so plenty of time for that.

rosegarden45 · 14/03/2018 21:29

So I decided to give One Born Every Minute a go.... the dads on it are so cringy! One has put his scrubs on and being the most annoying relative ever - I'd want to kick him out if I were that midwife! And the other guy just fainted whilst his girlfriend was pushing!! Hilarious. I hope my husband is nice and chilled during my labour...

Sunshinesaz86 · 14/03/2018 22:16

Witch Hazel is good on pads I used that first time round after having an episiotomy it healed pretty well. I also was given lactulose for my first couple of bowel movements 🤭 that also really helped!

Exciting more ppl are getting dates, yes @MrsDishavingaB I’m booked in for induction a week tomoro 😱!

rosegarden I love OBEM have watched it for years! Some of the ppl on it are cringe tho! X

MrsDishavingaB · 15/03/2018 18:34

Ok so I'm just catching up on last nights OBEM and the bloke may have passed out completely out of the blue but jeez his gf was annoying lol 😂 I just kept thinking "my god woman just be quiet!" Which is probably unfair because I think if I ever do have a natural birth I'm going to be so pathetic and whiney although hopefully not annoyingly shouty hehe

harrietm87 · 15/03/2018 22:20

Looking forward to catching up on OBEM!

Lots of people on the thread actually having March babies it seems! I had really strong braxton hicks today - felt like awful period pains - and actually wondered if I was going into labour! But only 36+5 so suspect still have a while to go!

rosegarden45 · 15/03/2018 22:53

For some reason I had a burst of energy this evening and joined in some country dancing with a load of kids. Fun at the time but now I'm hurting so much. Hoping I haven't encouraged the baby to make an early arrival! Eek. I need to stop thinking I'm still capable of prancing about like a child!

olicat · 16/03/2018 08:23

Haha @Rose that's a niche way to encourage labour along! Hopefully baby will just have has a nice rock to sleep 😊

Need to catch up on OBEM as I was asleep by 9pm on Wednesday!

Found out that despite being on iron tablets for a month my levels have gone down so on liquid iron twice a day to try to boost them. I'm still only borderline so hoping to avoid the iron transfusion that they started mentioning... kind of feel better in a way as have been so tired and couldn't believe how much I was struggling physically when I'm usually pretty fit/healthy. At least there's an explanation!

Anyone due to start mat leave soon? I start on Weds and cannot WAIT

harrietm87 · 16/03/2018 15:20

@olicat my mat leave starts next
Friday when I'll be 37+5 so only a week to go - cannot wait!!!

Re iron, I've been taking spatone liquid iron and eating lots of Cheerios (fortified with iron - lots of kids' cereals are!) and that has worked a treat for me.

boatrace30 · 16/03/2018 19:02

I've got a week to go. Will be 38+3! Five days of actual time off before the baby arrives but that's fine as work is a break from the toddler! I'm living for Monday 26th March. DD at nursery, DH at work. It will be a last day to myself for about a year!!

Testar0ssa · 16/03/2018 22:38

I'm starting a list of things I want to do when I finally go on mat leave. So far I've got:
Finish the blanket for the baby
An English breakfast at favourite cafe
Cinema
Use spa vouchers
Paint nails
Pack hospital bag
...and probably not in that order!

Planning to finish at 39.4 so hoping baby will be late!!

DaisyLand · 17/03/2018 08:40

Hello all
Somehow I don’t gdf notifications from this thread so had pages to read

Hope everyone is doing fine and we’re closer to meeting our little ones !

pinkflamingo121318 · 17/03/2018 09:48

I had a scan yesterday (been 4 weekly due to medication I'm on).

It's probably the best scan I've had - and this is third baby!

The woman scanning me actually explained everything we were seeing. Baby moved a lot and she showed us him having hiccups! I thought they were just kicks or hitting!

It was really amazing to see his belly move with every hiccup!

She looked at his head side on, and he has hair! Bit at the top and bit at the back!!
DD came out sporting a full head of curly dark hair around 2-3cm long!

Estimated weight is 6lb6 but a lot of people are saying they were told their baby was big, and they came out 2lb smaller! Which is great because he still has 3 weeks to go!

I'm still doing my school run which is 30 minutes away and I'm struggling! It's very awkward now, but my amazing MIL has told me to phone her any time and she will take/collect them for me. Only 9 days left before half term though so it's not too bad!

He's very low and I'm doing a super slow waddle!
The other day I had a really dodgy tummy (seems normal now) and I've been feeling sick again.. even though I'm still taking antisickness tablets!

FairfaxAikman · 17/03/2018 10:00

My last scan was brilliant @pinkflamingo121318.

I get one a month due to risks and the one before had felt so rushed and the sonographer was so brusque.
The last one was male. I had a second of hesitation (mainly cos it hadn't occurred to me that there would even BE a male in the department) shrugged my shoulders (cos he's a professional after all) and loved him.
We had an in-depth chocolate geek chat (both of us eat cheap stuff but I introduced him to the concept of bean-to-bar and high-cocoa milk chocolates (I love a particular Peruvian 66% milk chocolate) and where to get them) and he explained EVERYTHING.
He asked if I knew what I was having I explained we'd been told different things by different sonographers so he spent time looking and explaining why he was saying boy.

Anyhoo I finished up work yesterday for four weeks annual leave prior to Mat leave. Grin

TrigsToo · 17/03/2018 23:12

Guys, I think I need some advice. The past few days, my mood has absolutely plummeted - I'm crying or close to crying almost all the time, don't want to be around OH, feeling absolutely overwhelmed by the thought of everything.

Is this hormonal? Tiredness? Normal at this point? Or should I be worried?

MrsDishavingaB · 17/03/2018 23:34

Hi @TrigsToo how far along are you know? A couple of weeks ago (I'm now 37+4) my mood absolutely crashed and I would cry at the simplest things. They say that you are super hormonal in the first and third trimesters and for me this is when the mood swings have been the worst - add that to being super tired and uncomfortable and of course you are going to feel rotten.

Hugs to you Thanks I hope you feel better within yourself soon!

TrigsToo · 17/03/2018 23:53

Hey @MrsDishavingaB, I'm 34+3 - one of the latest ones on this board I think. So that might fit with your crash too. I'm hoping that's all it is and I can pull myself out of it soon.

MrsDishavingaB · 17/03/2018 23:59

Yes that's a really similar time to my crash in mood! It was also the time when I really started to crave any kind of alcoholic beverage lol, think this had something to do with my low mood as I only ever feel like drinking when frustrated or stressed.

The baby is a real drain on your resources at this point so make sure you're eating and drinking plenty. Use it as an excuse to have some yummy chocolate or whatever really floats your boat! It will pass I promise :)

Aspenn17 · 18/03/2018 09:34

@Trigstoo I am SO hormonal this week, really up and down. The smallest things make me want to cry, I feel angry at DH for no reason at all. Then a couple of hours later I’m fine again and apologising to him. I’m blaming it on hormones and lack of sleep (due to being uncomfortable)! I just keep reminding myself it’s only temporary and doing what MrsD said, eating chocolate and being kind to myself! Hope you feel better soon

pinkflamingo121318 · 18/03/2018 20:12

@TrigsToo

I'm 37+1 now but a couple of weeks ago, I felt SO down and I had no idea why.
I was argumentative but I just felt so so bummed out. No patience and I just wanted to cry all the time.

But, I'm completely back to normal now.
Well, except DH pointing out earlier that my temper goes from 0-10 super quick and I'm apparently being snappy.
He said it's fine, because it doesn't seem to be aimed at him yet and he thinks I'm being pretty nice to him!

I'm not bummed out anymore Smile
