@MrsDishavingaB - they do make you fast before the ECV. Mine was delayed and delayed and I was starving!!! So it might not be an option if it's going to effect the heart rate.

I think there is some evidence of breech babies being hereditary but very under researched I think. I guess it might get more common as more women survive them and have babies that have breech babies iyswim!

boatrace30 · 08/03/2018 21:32

Oh and my friend just had a 10lb4oz baby!! All very healthy and an easier birth than her first dd who was 7lb14oz

MrsDishavingaB · 09/03/2018 13:08

@boatrace30 I spoke to my consultant this morning, he thinks all but the initial CTG were actually fine and not worrying so they've booked me in for an ECV on Monday at 2pm. Fingers crossed it works!! I really don't want a section if I can avoid it. The best thing is that I don't even have to fast before it, I can have breakfast I just need to not eat for 2 hour before just in case something goes wrong.

@rosegarden45 are you seeing anyone in the time between now and your next scan? Hopefully you don't have to have intervention. @Aspenn17 Same goes for you!

My consultant said this morning that the scans are notoriously unreliable for most measurements and even my babies head measurement was coming up small and then suddenly in one week jumped up 15mm!
I wonder how they estimate the weight?

rosegarden45 · 09/03/2018 18:04

Community midwife wants to see me on Thursday for a 35 week check. I don't see the point as I have so many hospital appointments but I might go along just to stop her nagging! I've still got my heart set on a home birth even though everything is looking to be pushing me as far away from that as possible. Maybe I should start listening to the healthcare professionals instead of fighting them all the time. I don't want to put baby at risk but I also don't want to be pushed into anything unnecessary

boatrace30 · 09/03/2018 20:15

I had my presentation scan today, as expected baby is breech. I declined an ECV and tried to book c-section but the crazy hospital system means I have to go back next week to sign consent. Honestly was an awful morning. Waiting over 3hrs to try and sign this form and then told to come back next week (and I'm 45mins from the hospital).
All fine with the baby otherwise so shouldn't feel so ungrateful about it but just frustrating as I expected to come home with a date and a plan.

boatrace30 · 09/03/2018 20:16

@MrsDishavingaB - I really hope it works for you. Fingers crossed!!

Happy Mother's Day everyone. This time last year I was feeling sad because we were in the midst of fertility treatment after 6 years ttc. I felt totally useless and believed I would never be able to conceive. Fast forward to today and I have a huge baby kicking me in the ribs! I never thought I'd be pregnant so it's a bit of an emotional day today 😊 I hope you are all enjoying your mother's day whether you already have little ones or are first timers like me. My dog and cat have been my babies for a long time, roll on 5 weeks (or less!) and the bump will be a bundle 😍

boatrace30 · 11/03/2018 14:51

Ah that's lovely @rosegarden45 . Happy Mother's Day to you (and everyone else)!

Sunshinesaz86 · 12/03/2018 08:33

I hope you all had a good mother’s day yesterday.
Talking of scans and weights etc, I had growth scan on Friday and after floating along the 50th centile baby has ‘jumped’ to just under the 90th at 36+1 they have guesstimated 6lb 9! I’m not convinced it’s correct but it could be. Ds was 8lb 2 at 41 weeks? I assumed the measurements were generated off the computer but obviously no idea.

I have 11 days until induction now starting to get a bit nervous!

Good luck today with mrsd I hope it works out well.
And good luck to all who have any pending scans/appointments etc coming up! X

TrigsToo · 12/03/2018 16:50

Aww, you guys, I've been avoiding posting anything because all I had was grumpiness about how long there is left to go (I'm still 33+4 which feels like an age behind most of you), but wanted to share about my lovely weekend.

It was my OH's weekend off, so we planned to go into town. We spent a couple of hours there and then went home. When we opened the door, I thought I heard another door shut and thought there was someone in the house. I called out to my OH as he went into the kitchen and then followed him in, and there were my best friends, sister and mum. They were throwing me a surprise baby shower! Apparently they've been organising the whole thing for two months and I had no idea!

hugs to those who need them - seems like things are getting a little scary now.

boatrace30 · 12/03/2018 18:55

How did the ECV go @MrsDishavingaB ?
@TrigsToo - how lovely. My NCT group (from first DC threw my a joint surprise one with another friend but I was 28weeks and it just felt odd when the other friend was 38! Still lovely though!

@Sunshinesaz86 - don't worry too much about the measurements. Very unreliable. I was scanned on Friday 36+3 and they guess 6lb4 and I think that was roughly 50th centile so not much in it and the measurements won't be super accurate

MrsDishavingaB · 12/03/2018 19:14

Oh @boatrace30 it didn't go very well lol blooming boy wasn't behaving himself for the CTG and his heart rate was showing it was elevated with a baseline bpm of around 160 with a few dips to 100, the doctor was not happy about doing an ECV at all so now I'm all booked in to get my little boy airlifted out of the skylight on March 28th at 39 weeks exactly. My April baby is now a March baby!

Do you have a date for yours yet?

MrsDishavingaB · 12/03/2018 19:30

Aw @TrigsToo that sounds like a lovely weekend! How lovely of your family. My DH turned round to me one evening two weeks ago and just blurted our "oh shit did u want a baby shower?" 😂 I said don't bother and we can have a welcome to the world party.

@Sunshinesaz86 I wouldn't say 6lb 9oz is that big for 36 weeks...mine is only 9oz less than that...but my friend kept being told she had a mahoosive baby and was induced, it turned out she just had loads and loads of fluid and he was being magnified. Her DS was born 6lb 1oz! Don't panic too much just yet ☺️

boatrace30 · 12/03/2018 20:23

Oh that's a shame. Well, at least you have a plan now. Lots of advantages to knowing the date!
I've got to go back on Wednesday to sign the consent and get a date. Hoping it will be similar as it's either 27th-29th or my due date as they won't do it over be BH weekend and I don't fancy going as far as my due date and having to rush in over Easter!

harrietm87 · 13/03/2018 09:16

Aw sorry @MrsDishavingaB, but sounds like they've decided on the best plan for you and baby. I'd love to know the date for mine!

I'm having another growth/presentation scan today at 36+2 so will update later re size. Really hoping baby isn't still oblique!

MrsDishavingaB · 13/03/2018 17:15

Do you know what, I'm not even upset about it. Maybe a little bothered that it won't be the natural birth that everyone expects to have, but I'm far happier in the knowledge that I'm doing what's best for my baby.

I guess it helps that I've been mentally preparing myself for this to be the case for the past few weeks!
I just need to research all I can now and find out the best recovery and postpartum tips for csections instead of natural births

boatrace30 · 13/03/2018 17:34

@MrsDishavingaB - having been where you were with my first I'd like to reassure you that most likely all will be fine and recovery not necessarily much worse than a normal birth.
I was out of hospital after 30hrs, I could have stayed longer but didn't want to. Stock up on paracetamol and ibuprofen. It's important to take them round the clock for about two weeks, then the pain stays under control. That's my top tip!
If you have any questions do ask!

boatrace30 · 13/03/2018 17:34

Also no idea what your plan was but I heard negative things about breastfeeding post section and I had no issues - milk came in day 3 which is fairly normal

MrsDishavingaB · 13/03/2018 17:39

Actually my biggest question is about feeding lol 😂 (you can tell this is my first!) if your milk comes in on day 3, what does baby have for the first three days?! Is the tiny bit of colostrum all they need?

My other biggest concern is the postpartum bleed, does it happen right after? 🙈 I couldn't bear the thought of sitting in the bed not being able to move for a few hours and just having to sit in blood.

harrietm87 · 13/03/2018 17:56

Great attitude @MrsDishavingaB. Also I know so many people who have been induced and gone through hours of painful labour and then ended up with EMCS which is worst of all worlds. You will have a lovely calm experience!

Had my scan today and baby is 5lb14 at 36+2 which is about 40th centile. It was estimated 5lb5 2 weeks ago so hasn't quite put on the half lb per week they say, though everyone knows these measurements are pretty inaccurate so who knows! It's not engaged yet but in a good head down position. No more scans for me now!

harrietm87 · 13/03/2018 17:57

Oops sorry for double post!

boatrace30 · 13/03/2018 18:18

For anyone planning to breastfeed the first few days are hard. Colostrum is all they need (I think their stomach is the size of a chickpea on day 1) but you feel like they need more and I felt a lot of pressure to give formula but held off and that's the best thing to do to establish supply. Lots of skin to skin contact also helps hugely. I didn't dress DD at all on the first day.

As for the bleeding. It's slightly less bad with a section as they suction some out. I think I bled a lot the first few hours, they kept changing pads that I was laying on but I was barely aware. After that it was a very heavy period for a few days then a light period for a few weeks

boatrace30 · 13/03/2018 18:19

Plus scarring and risk of infection lower with an elective as they do it much slower and more carefully!

fitbitbore · 13/03/2018 19:22

@MrsDishavingaB I remember with my first he was born naturally and when I stood up Togo to the loo after I'd had him a fair amount of blood just dropped out of me onto the floor. I looked at the midwife horrified and she said that's normal and then it was just like a slightly heavier period for a about a week after then tailed off.
