Ignore my previous post, I hadn't seen the other post explaining what Maternity Mats were when I wrote it.

My Mumsnet seems to be very slow and playing up a bit today

harrietm87 · 22/02/2018 16:41

@ClaireBear1986 see the post below - they're absorbent disposable mats. Like a towel made out of nappy material. You could prob use a towel instead but I think the fact you can throw them out may come in handy!

Thanks everyone for all the tips - this is so useful!

FairfaxAikman · 22/02/2018 16:52

We had some puppy pads kicking about from when Ddog was ill so have used them under a towel. Far cheaper than maternity mats and pretty much the same thing.

bubblegumble · 22/02/2018 18:26

@Aspenn17
They didn't give any indication on birth weight, but I have another scan middle of March at 37 weeks. So will get a better idea then!!

My other two were..
7lb 1 1/2 - born 95 minutes before my due date!
7lb 10 - born 11 days late

So I'm hoping not a big baby!

sirlee66 · 22/02/2018 18:41

5 weeks till mat leave!! Woo!! (Due April 17th!)

boatrace30 · 22/02/2018 19:02

I think pampers or Aldi are the best but definitely don't over buy on size 1s. It's amazing how quickly they can move into 2s.
I've been given loads of 1s from friends who had babies recently and over bought and pretty sure I'll also be passing them on.

If you have amazon prime then subscribe and save is great for getting pampers and I've also got breast pads that way. Never used disposable knickers. Granny pants last time but buy big sizes! I got normal size last time but as they go over your tummy (and that doesn't deflate quickly!!) I had to snip the sides to get them on Sad

rosegarden45 · 23/02/2018 07:45

Bubblegumble CATs - mine seems obsessed with climbing onto or into anything baby related. Most stuff we have is handed down from friends or family so I'm not worried at the moment about him getting into the cot etc because I haven't cleaned it yet or washed the bedding but he did try to get into the brand new pushchair the other day for his nap. I want him to explore everything so it's not too much of a shock when baby appears in his world so I've been quite relaxed with it but husband has a different opinion and doesn't want him anywhere near baby stuff.
When baby arrives there will be definite boundaries so I'm not sure if I should start being a little more strict now. The easiest thing at the moment is to shut the nursery door as most stuff is currently stored in there but he does find a way to sneak in when I'm in there with the door open. He loves climbing on my bump too but I don't think that's much of a new thing, midwife commented on all the scratches last time she saw me which was a bit embarrassing!

boatrace30 · 23/02/2018 07:50

Great article @rosegarden45

olicat · 23/02/2018 08:31

Our cats have been banned from the bedroom and hall for a while now, there would be no stopping them otherwise. Doesn't help that all baby things seem to be super cat shaped/cosy. As soon as we'd set up the buggy one of mine got in the storage bit underneath 😂 we have a dog as well but that's different as she can follow instructions!

Good article rose, sometimes I think I'm so focused on pregnancy/birth that I forget I'll actually have to look after a baby for quite some time...

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 23/02/2018 10:27

Got the cutest wee outfit this morning
Me and my DH have an ongoing joke re this so fits quite nicely
I’m going to hide it and keep it for Father’s Day 😊

We have similar babygros @Whymustyoubringinthebirds.
DH is a massive nerd and insists Yoda belongs in a woodland-themed nursery Hmm

rosegarden45 · 23/02/2018 16:25

My friends gave me this little bundle with Harry Potter goodies this week 😊 we also have a babygrow with a game controller on it saying 'player 2' to match a top my husband has saying 'player 1' which was a Xmas present from his sister. It won't be long until star wars baby stuff will be snuck in. He wanted a star wars themed nursery but I persuaded him that his merchandise might get ruined by baby and he would be very upset if that were to happen so it's staying in his man cave for now. Another nerd house 😊

Well, if we're on the subject of nerdy houses...

All these baby grows are so cute!
We have a batman one very similar from H&M along with a little AC/DC one. Plus, Flash Gordon (DHs name is Gordon, had to be done hehe!) Star Wars, Thunderbirds and Buzz/Woody. Have to say, girls clothes are adorable and make me jealous of the variety but boys stuff is just plain old fun and your inner nerd can run free without judgement haha 😆 oh also - we will be using puppy pads as we have a billion on hand and they're exactly the same as maternity mats!

Spent Sunday evening and most of today in Antenatal due to reduced movement, hadn't felt baby move in 6 hours so got hooked up to a CTG monitor, after 45 mins was told I'd be in for the night as baby heart rate kept dipping every 5-10 mins. Was put on a drip and monitored all night, being fully prepped to expect to deliver if he didn't improve!! Thankfully by 9am he'd started to behave but didn't manage to get discharged until 2pm as doctors wanted to make a plan for close monitoring over the next week or so. What a scary 24hours!! Definitely report it if you are ever concerned about movements ladies, you never know what's going on with them in there!

olicat · 26/02/2018 20:42

@MrsD that sounds scary, glad you trusted your instincts! What sort of monitoring will you have over this week?

MrsDishavingaB · 26/02/2018 21:10

@olicat I'll be having two more growth scans over the next two weeks because they think babies head growth has tapered off. I will also have two consultant appts and during one I will be hooked up to a ctg again to see how babies heart is functioning and see if the dips were just him being uncomfortable about something.

He's also still breech so they will be monitoring his position too.

Really hoping he settles down and gets comfy again, don't think I'm ready for him to come quite so early!

Testar0ssa · 27/02/2018 10:45

That must have been frightening. Hugs to @MrsDishavingaB

Fingers crossed it was a blip and baby will not be putting in an early appearance

harrietm87 · 27/02/2018 16:00

Oh no @MrsDishavingaB that's awful! What have they said about position - do they think baby could still turn or does this mean c section?

I had a bit of scare yesterday/today as my bump seemed to have shrunk between appointments! Fundal height was 30cm at 30 weeks and 29cm at 34 week appt on Mon, so they sent me for an urgent growth scan this morning. Turns out the baby is fine, 50th centile and weighing about 5lbs 5oz already. I was born at 34 weeks weighing 5lbs and had no problems whatsoever so i feel like every day is a bonus now for the little one.

Only issue is it is lying oblique (diagonal) so the head is pressing into my hip rather than cervix. They're not worried as seem to think baby will move - I hope so!

olicat · 27/02/2018 23:09

@MrsD that's good they're taking it seriously and keeping a close eye on you. Let us know how everything goes!

Hope you're ok too @harriet87.

I'm having loads of braxton hicks - they aren't painful but really uncomfortable. Constantly feeling like there's no room left in my stomach and can't possibly see how it can grow any more for the next 7/8 ish weeks!

MrsDishavingaB · 28/02/2018 22:29

@harrietm87 they think he could still turn but the fact he's been breech for 4 weeks now isn't looking good. They said they will review in my consultant appt on 9th after the scan and make a plan. It's very possible for csection but I'm going to try everything I can to get him to turn!

Do you think maybe you were just bloated in your earlier appt that altered your fundal measurement? I swear my bump changes size throughout the day lol.

@olicat I can't believe you've got braxton hicks already! I don't think I've had any but im not really sure what I'm looking out for still

harrietm87 · 01/03/2018 07:06

@MrsDishavingaB have you checked out the spinning babies website? Could be worth a try!

No don't think I was bloated! My appointments are all at 9.30am and if I do feel bloated it's in the afternoon/eve. I've had a horrible cold and been working ridiculous hours over the last few weeks so think I actually lost weight and that accounts for the difference- not great! It's been a good wake up call though to push back at work. Only 3 weeks and 2 days left!

MommaLamb · 01/03/2018 09:09

Hope everyone and their bumps are keeping warm and out of the snow!

@MrsD and @harrietm87 - prayers to u both Smile

I've had a minor scare in the last day- baby seemed to be moving much less so went to the hospital (poor DH drove in the snow at 3am!) - after an hour on the CTG was sent for an ultrasound and turns out everything is a-okay with baby...Thank god! I think it all has been an emotional week for me as just started mat leave after a few crazy weeks at work and adjusting to not working now, it all feels like this is actually going to happen!! A bonus that my low lying placenta has definitely moved upwards so a c section for now is off the cards, baby is also in a good position (LOA) and now seems to be dancing all around again! Hope this gives others who might be experiencing the same some peace of mind and hope!!

Aspenn17 · 01/03/2018 09:13

Ive been having Braxton Hicks too but they are painless at the moment just a real tightening of my tummy and my bump goes rock hard for about 30 secs and I feel kind of hot and uncomfortable, then it just passes. Also I’ve had a couple of nosebleeds this week too, haven’t had a nosebleed since I was like 10!

@MrsD hope everything is ok now, sounds so scary. I hope everyone is being careful in this snow! We’ve had loads in London, I’ve got hypnobirthing tonight and NCT all weekend, really hoping they don’t get postponed :(

FairfaxAikman · 01/03/2018 09:27

I live right in the middle of the red warning zone.

I was due to start work in a different office to my usual one at 3pm.
As this involved a 75 mile drive I contacted my boss at 11am to stay should I come in. I even pointed out I have no hesitation driving in snow normally but was reluctant at 7.5 months pregnant. He insisted I did.
I thought I'd stay at my parents as they live 12 miles from that office so at least I packed clothes.
He called me as I was halfway up the road and said stay home - by that time turning around was more dangerous than continuing.
I got to work to find everyone in the red zone (except me) had received an email from the top boss saying go home.
As my parents were in an amber zone it didn't apply to me.
Three hours before I was due to finish we realised I wouldn't get my 1.3l ford anywhere, so called DF to ask him to get me in his 4WD - he got stuck less than a mile down the road.
I had to check into a hotel and the 10minute walk took me 25 mins.
I cried last night.
