Wah! I took last week as annual leave, and then spent the whole week sick with a nasty cough/cold. Now I'm back at work and I'm tired and the office is ridiculously hot and I'm looking at the calendar and eight weeks until I'm next on annual leave before my last leave starts just seems like forever away. Feeling very jealous of those of you with not long left right now!

And I can't even have any wine to go with my whine!

@MrsDishavingaB I hope you're not coming down with anything unpleasant! Feel better soon.

MrsDishavingaB · 19/02/2018 11:38

Aww @TrigsToo that sucks!!

None of us are having a good time of it at the moment are we?!?!

boatrace30 · 19/02/2018 19:16

@MrsDishavingaB - well there is still time to turn. But it gets less likely with each week. 36 weeks is usually when they'd scan and then either offer an ecv or c-section. Last time I tried an ecv and dd was having none of it.
So for me, due to my and family history I'm doubtful it will turn but yours still might!
Sorry to all those feeling poorly. It's rubbish. I'm getting more and more uncomfortable at night, plus the minimum three toilet wake ups!

olicat · 20/02/2018 07:34

@Trigs so sorry to hear you've had a cold, extra miserable when you can't have normal stuff like lemsip/beechams! Or indeed wine.

Overall though we are so nearly there - As of Saturday I'll have a maximum of 10 weeks to go (and that's if I were to go 2 weeks overdue). But omg I'm with you @MrsD, can't wait til I can freely sleep in whatever position I like!!

Aspenn17 · 20/02/2018 08:58

My official Mat leave starts the day before she is due but taking 3 weeks of annual leave first so working up to 37 weeks (23rd March) really can’t wait to finish now. Work itself is ok it’s just the commute that’s tiring me out. My friends thew me a little baby shower this weekend which was really nice. DH also set up the isofix and car seat which was exciting!

All your nurseries look so lovely! We are moving house a month after baby is due (I know- crazy timing!!) so we haven’t done any decorating.

Has anyone else’s babies movements changed? Less forceful little kicks and more big rolls, wiggles and sticking out feet and elbows etc? She’s super active so I’m not worried, think maybe she is running out of room! Hope those with colds are feeling better soon x

rosegarden45 · 20/02/2018 18:47

Aspenn you must be due about the same time as me. My last working day is also 23rd and I'm having 3 weeks annual leave with mat leave starting on due date.
I've worked from home the past 2 days and haven't achieved much other than sitting on the sofa and answering a few emails and phone calls. I did pull myself together to walk the dog so I'm pleased with that. Off to swim tums now which is really nice with the water taking the pressure off my back :-)

I'm so looking forward to being able to sleep on my stomach again. Baby seems to be most active when I'm in bed trying to get comfy. There are less kicks and more feelings like elbows grinding inside me. Much less movement than before but as others have said I think it's due to less space available.

rosegarden45 · 20/02/2018 18:49

We moved house when I was about 20 weeks so I'm lucky that we are settled now and can prepare the baby room. Good luck with the house move :-) at least you'll have baby in your arms by then and not weighing you down on your back!

bubblegumble · 20/02/2018 19:01

I had a scan today (33+3) and estimated weight is 4lb6 at the moment!

harrietm87 · 21/02/2018 09:19

Another one finishing 23 March here! 2 weeks before due date. I'm adding my holiday on to the end rather than the start as they pro rata bonusable hours (to year end 30 April) over mat leave but not holiday, so it would have counted against me otherwise.

I've also had a horrible cold this week and feeling pretty miserable as so much still to be done in our house. I haven't been sleeping so completely exhausted and feel like it's never ending! Hopefully will cheer up soon.

ClaireBear1986 · 22/02/2018 11:02

I can sympathise @YTho as I also have a 3 hour daily commute on very busy tubes!!
I am constantly exhausted but only got to make it to next Friday now.

Decided to take my mat leave really early (last day at work 02/03 and EDD 19/04) as my work have made my life very difficult since telling them about my pregnancy and the commute is hell on earth.
Slightly worried about getting bored at home, but needed to put my health and sanity first.

Can't wait for people on this group to start making baby announcements, going to be so exciting!!

DaisyLand · 22/02/2018 11:58

For all those that we finish on the 23rd ages ago I did this countdown www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?iso=20180323T00&p0=299&msg=Maternity+Leave&ud=1&font=cursive

It's nice to see it dropping down every day... cant believe it's just one more month left!

Saying that i've not started doing the hospital bag, i have been in /out in the last days in hospital, yesterday i was told bring a night bag just in case we keep you overnight, so i kind of have started in that way i guess as will keep the things in the bag , luckily i didnt stay.

@Claire i admire you, i told you months ago but i'd not have been able with such a long commute!

bubblegumble · 22/02/2018 12:23

CATS!

We didn't get a cat until our youngest was 15 months. Cat is 3 now.

How do I stop him sitting in the baby's things?!

I just went into the nursery and noticed cat fur on the bedding.

What can I do to teach him not to sit in it?!

I never see him in it because he sleeps elsewhere during the day, I assume he does it at night.

Testar0ssa · 22/02/2018 12:44

Those of you with commutes-particularly by tube-and without the option of working from home, you have my sympathies.

We've got slapped cheek in the family so cue further blood tests, and eyes-over-glasses serious talk about if you come out with any symptoms get to the GP pronto. Not sure what GP can do, but anyway. Think our toddler has caught it too as she is, unusually, not happy and not sleeping well.

Baby now head down. Hurrah. Well done baby. Sometimes feels like it's in competition with itself to find out how far it can shove its arse out over my feet though. Do feel like I'm a very peculiar shape sometimes.

Have not packed hospital bag yet but have bought myself v nice travel set of shower gel etc for The Best Shower of your Life, post birth. I've also done a big boots online order of massive loads of maternity pads (I was still bleeding 6 weeks after birth last time), nipple pads, cotton wool, and size one nappies. It's sitting reproachfully downstairs saying 'unpack me' every time I walk past.

Anyway... nearly the weekend...

Testar0ssa · 22/02/2018 12:45

I think there are cat proof covers you can put over cot etc...

Otherwise it's a shut door I think...

harrietm87 · 22/02/2018 12:55

@Testar0ssa how many maternity pads, cotton wool and nappies have you got? And breast pads for that matter? Im totally clueless as to the quantities needed!

DaisyLand · 22/02/2018 13:08

@Testar0ssa i second that question, how many do you have more or less? Saw boots had a baby event yesterday so should make use of it!

Testar0ssa · 22/02/2018 13:20

Hey both,
I took the view that more is more : urgently having to juggle getting to Boots with baby and toddler in tow wasn't something I wanted to have to do.
I got the following as a very comfortable starting position:
Maternity mats 5 pack x3 (good for sitting on once your waters break. My experience was that waters don't go in one big whoosh, rather like a constant leakage, exacerbated by movement. If you don't use them during labour, good for using as travel/throw away changing mats for baby)
Maternity pads 10 pack x 6 (taking advantage of a multi-buy offer. Bleeding post birth is the worst period of your life. You don't want tampons anywhere near you and normal pads really do not cover it esp in early days. That said, I don't plan to take more than one pack with me to hospital, hoping that I'll be out within 48 hours of birth)
Breast pads 36 pack x3. (Having suffered the embarrassment of leaking milk all over my top (it was the absolute worst) while in a meeting with the paediatric team with my first, I always wanted the comfort of having pads in while I was on cow-duty (7 months last time). So I got loads this time not worrying about not using them. Again I think it was a question of taking advantage of multi-buy).
I also got some Cooling headache pads for labour as I found them really soothing (labour wards are kept tropical).

(Apols for the overshares....)

Aspenn17 · 22/02/2018 13:36

Thanks @rosegarden, I’m thinking i’ll just disappear with the baby for the day and just get DH and our families to do all the hard work moving!! 🙊 23rd March seems like a popular day to finish!

@bubblegumble that’s exciting! Did they give you any estimation of birth weight?

@harrietm hope you feel better soon :(

I’m going to a hypnobirthing class tonight!

DaisyLand · 22/02/2018 14:11

Thanks! just bought in boots taken advantage of the 3x2 or Buy one second one half price

Maternity pads 6 x 10
Cotton wool 2 x 200
I had 60 breast pads already
Maternity mats 3x5

God our shopping is lately quite interesting hahah

ClaireBear1986 · 22/02/2018 14:42

Love the countdown @DaisyLand, I have just made one for myself :)

That's really helpful @Testar0ssa. This might be a stupid question but what is a maternity mat?

I've bought pads and disposable knickers as heard mixed reviews on both. So thought I would get both and see which I get on best with.

harrietm87 · 22/02/2018 15:27

Thanks @Testar0ssa.

I think I've got 3 x pads (cos of 3 for 2), so will get another 3. I've got 1 x 200 cotton wool so might get more of that as well.

@ClaireBear1986 I'm the same - have bought some disposable pants from mothercare and 2 x 3 packs of massive black ones from primark to see what works. Got a pack of maternity mats from mothercare and planning to put a couple under my sheet in a couple of weeks in case waters break at night!

How many nappies should we get? I've only got one small pack atm for hospital bag - is it true that it's best to try out different brands, or should I just stock up on pampers for the first while? How many nappies do they need per day?

FairfaxAikman · 22/02/2018 15:47

I've just got some nighties/pjs to wash and that will be my Hospital bag packed.

DaisyLand · 22/02/2018 16:08

@harrietm87 i've got around 100 -150 of pampers mainly cuz that's what the offers were in tesco and asda. i tried getting the aldi ones but they had run out during the baby event

Testar0ssa · 22/02/2018 16:11

I went the big pants option as a) in case of c section, you'll not want anything too tight or at risk of creasing near site entrance and b) by that stage of pregnancy and afterwards I'd said a fond farewell to small, non-cotton pants.

Maternity mats are approx 75cm square absorbent mats: they put them under you when in hospital to catch well whatever is needed. As suggested, you might want to start sleeping on one (under a sheet) in case of water starting to break. You can wash a sheet, you won't want to wash the mattress.

Re cotton wool: a couple of bags will be fine I'm sure. Some mums never do the cotton wool and water thing on new bums. Some compromise and use water wipes. In likelihood, you'll start with best intentions with the gently warmed water and using a fresh cotton ball for each wipe of baby's bum, and then relax into the world of baby wipes.

I've got a couple of packs of size 1. We have just used pampers on the basis if it's not broke, don't fix it. I must get our subscription on amazon prime set up... I took the view that it's easy to send family members/ other halves to pick up x brand of nappies in whichever size if and when needed. That said, if you over order, and baby grows out of the size quickly, I'm sure friends will thank you for the excess, or food banks etc.

The nappies per day is difficult to gauge as every baby will be different. Our first loved nothing more than to use a clean nappy so each change took 2 effectively. I think I used to work on rough calculation to be safe of 8 per day when I was packing changing bag for the day.

ClaireBear1986 · 22/02/2018 16:14

Probably being really dumb, but still confused about what maternity MATS are?

None of my Mummy friends seem to have bought them when they have had their babies, so I'm guessing they can't be that important or is it a new thing?

I deffo need a trip to Primark for giant black knickers. The ones near me are sooo busy though, so waiting to pop up during the day on my mat leave.
