They did it by feeling, but having had a breech baby I also know what it feels like. Believe me the head is unmistakably just under my ribs!!
They will scan as standard after the 36week appt (no point until then). Eek, transverse! It had better move!!

harrietm87 · 01/02/2018 20:05

Yeah I know! It wasn't fully transverse, more like diagonal so head bottom left, feet top right, so I feel at least heading in the right direction! Midwife wasn't at all worried, she said they can still move pretty much up to the end so I won't stress about it. My hospital scans everyone again at 35 weeks so will be interested to see what the deal is then! You never know, your little one might turn yet.

rosegarden45 · 01/02/2018 21:44

Mine was transverse at the last scan which was 4 weeks ago. It feels to me like it has moved but most kicks are to the right of my ribs so maybe not completely down yet. I get my next scan on Monday so will be interesting to see position then. It's my first baby so I don't know what to expect with how much it will change position now. It's nice to get scans every 4 weeks so we get to see it progress but having to have the extra scans does worry me that they will take the control away from me and try to make decisions about c-sections etc. Still really hoping it is all ok for a home birth. Fingers crossed!

Aspenn17 · 01/02/2018 22:24

@mrsD and @harrietm- I've been having the exact same thing, my bump goes really
tight and hard, then about a minute later is back to normal, didnt occur to me until now it could be Brixton hicks, I didn't realise you could have them without it being painful! Also baby gets hiccups almost everyday! Does anyone else's get them that often!?

boatrace30 · 02/02/2018 07:16

I get the feeling with my bump doing very hard but never thought it was BH assumed it was baby moving to front as usually I can feel the baby very clearly from the outside.
This baby hasn't really hiccoughed bt my last one did loads!

MrsDishavingaB · 02/02/2018 08:27

That's the thing the movements with my stomach are so slight I can never be sure what they are because baby will always move just before and after! Kinda frustrating. People make out like you'll really know it when you have them but I'm wondering if that's over dramatics or if they do become more obvious later on...

My LO has hiccups almost every day and I feel him opening out his fingers...it's really weird little tickles coming the from inside, can be a bit freaky lol!

boatrace30 · 02/02/2018 08:47

I think I had some brace on hicks last time but was only ever when I was walking so not sure if it was just slight cramps!
There was definitely never anything definitive

boatrace30 · 02/02/2018 08:48

That should obviously read braxton not brace on!

TrigsToo · 02/02/2018 10:06

Had my 28 week check up yesterday. Eddie is now head down which means he's finally moved off whatever nerve he's been sat on for the past six weeks, and I can finally walk again!

FairfaxAikman · 02/02/2018 11:59

I wonder how many of us have names for our DC already?

We just settled on ours earlier this week.

MrsDishavingaB · 02/02/2018 15:08

We have a name Fairfax, we haven't told people what it is though because we want to keep it to ourselves just that little bit longer ☺️ plus I don't want to prolong the inevitable bad remarks for any longer than I need to.

Yay Trigs glad you can walk again!

Had my 31 week appt and I've been signed off work due to dizziness and my SPD. Also my iron levels are through the roof so if any of you are low on iron, eat cereal! I've been craving it by the bucket load so I can only assume that's what has helped 😬

rosegarden45 · 02/02/2018 16:39

I'm really struggling with a name. Decided to go for it and buy a name book yesterday so spent a good couple of hours browsing through the book. Still no closer! My husband wants simple names but I want something that isn't too popular. We both have quite common names so were always known at school as our surnames which I don't want for baby. But I don't want it to be so unusual that people think it's weird! Such a tough decision knowing the kid has to live with their name for ever.

MrsDishavingaB · 02/02/2018 16:53

I've gone for a super simple name but I have to constantly spell my surname so don't want baby having to go through that. It's common but has the opportunity for quite a few nicknames.

It's super simple but at the same time it's a family name so I'm pleasing quite a few people.

I'd be screwed if I were having a girl - I love too many I'd struggle lol

olicat · 02/02/2018 18:44

Had my anti d injection today - was most surprised when the midwife announced it had to be given into my butt cheek!

Hope all the babies in awkward positions get a move on, but if not then boatrace as you say there are defo advantages of a planned section like knowing exactly what to expect. I have no clue what position my baby is in, do they start feeling for it at appointments post 30 weeks?

Went to my first hypnobirthing class last night and really enjoyed it - feel like it made me really calm and positive about the idea of birth which can't be a bad thing! Going to do all the practice and then at the very last hopefully I can stay calmish whatever happens.

harrietm87 · 02/02/2018 21:01

Strangely we haven't really thought about names much. There is one boy's name we both like so guess it will be that if it's a boy, but I don't think of the baby as that name, partly because it could be a girl and partly cos I'd be prepared to choose something else if it was a boy but it didn't suit him. No idea for girls!

@olicat I asked my midwife re the baby's position at my 30 week appointment, as she was feeling anyway for where to put the Doppler for heartbeat. Don't think she'd have said otherwise - our hospital scans everyone at 35 weeks so guess it is officially checked then.

boatrace30 · 02/02/2018 22:36

@olicat - around here they check position at every appt from 28weeks and then refer you for a scan of they don't think it's head down

As for names, we're fine if it's a girl. A bit more problematic with boys as we can't agree!

TrigsToo · 02/02/2018 23:00

@olicat I only know because as she was feeling for where to put the Doppler she said "there's his head" towards the bottom of the bump, so not specifically looking for it as such.

As for names, OH and I started talking pretty early on and had a boy and a girl name picked out. My OH is super fussy as he thinks not much goes with his surname. I liked the idea of having a name from one of our families and the names it turned out he actually liked happened to be my paternal grandparent's names. Edward was also my fathers middle name and since he died just over a year ago it seems extra special to me.

Sunshinesaz86 · 04/02/2018 10:49

So nice some of you have got names set! I bet it makes it feel very real!

I think we're set for girls names we have about 3 that we are contemplating along with middle names!

Boys however we are really struggling as we used our 2 favs on ds1 first/second name! We are constantly discussing but just nothing we both have said yes definitely too yet!

Anyone sharing there maybe names?

FairfaxAikman · 04/02/2018 11:36

@Sunshinesaz86 my maybe names were

Alasdair (top choice but vetoed by DH)
Thomas
Oliver
Benjamin (Ben)
Harry
Alexander
Iain
Samuel (Sam)
William
Dylan
Ruaraidh

Aspenn17 · 05/02/2018 09:57

We've got our name picked out (it's a girl), but still trying to decide on the middle names. We'd have gone for Harry if it was a boy. What are your opinions on two middle names? Is it too much? We have a very short surname so made picking names easier as there were some that just didn't go.

Been pretty uncomfortable this weekend for the first time properly. Can't believe Bump has another 10 weeks of growing left to do, I feel so big already!

MissYeti · 05/02/2018 10:15

@aspenn17 we're having two middle names :) my parents gave me and my siblings two middle names, dp and his siblings all have two middle names so it seems pretty normal to us. Plus we're using teddys granddads names as middle names to keep the family link so we couldn't use one and not the other

FairfaxAikman · 05/02/2018 10:41

@Aspenn17 we are having two middle names - one from each side.

rosegarden45 · 05/02/2018 11:22

I think with a short surname 2 middle names works well. My mum remarried when I was very little so my surname became double barrelled and then adding this to my 2 middle names made my name very long! But the middle name is hardly ever used so not an issue. If it's a boy we may keep a family name in there that all boys have had for generations - this would mean 2 middle names. I'm still struggling with decisions on names.

Just on the way back from 30 week scan. Baby is head down. Still scanning big. I stupidly mentioned that I had felt my heart racing and now I'm all wired up to a 24 hour heart rate tracker! Just to add to the discomfort when sleeping!

MrsDishavingaB · 05/02/2018 11:48

Ooh @rosegarden45 was the fact that your heart races cause for concern for them? My heart races every now and again but figured it was just baby moving to a position that my organs don't like. I mentioned at my midwife appt that I had been having dizzy spells almost every day for a week and I've been signed off work!

I think even at this stage baby being head down is nothing. I'm 31+4 and on Friday baby was head down for the midwife and on Saturday for my 4D scan he was bum down!

rosegarden45 · 05/02/2018 11:54

Well I only mentioned the heart rate because it happened as I arrived for scan and she was about to do my obs so I dropped it into conversation. It hasn't concerned me before and I just assumed it was to do with having less space to breathe and lack of sleep etc. But the doctor wants to check it all out so now I'm all wired up for 24 hours. I'm assuming it's nothing and she said it was ok to go to work today and carry on as normal.
Got another scan in another 4 weeks time so we'll see if baby is still head down. I guess it will move loads in the next few weeks as it's supposed to be having a growth spurt.
